00:01Communities that were rocked by three fatal shootings in the space of a week have more confidence in police three years on, the force has said.
00:09Mayerside Police was one of the first forces in the country to receive Home Office funding for a Clear Hold Build initiative,
00:16known locally as Evolve following the deaths of Olivia Pratt Corbell, 9, 28-year-old Ashley Dale and Sam Rimmer, 22, back in August of 2022.
00:26It offers a holistic approach combining enforcement with long-term prevention, delivered in partnership with other agencies.
00:34It aims to tackle criminality and its underlying causes.
00:38The Evolve project was launched in Wirral following the death of Ellie Edwards, 26, who was killed in a shooting outside a pub on Christmas Eve of 2022.
00:47There are also projects running in the Netherton and the Everton and Vauxhall area too.
00:51We've been on the streets of Liverpool to ask what you would like to see Mayerside Police do better.
00:57Well, being on the beat, being present, being seen.
01:01I would like them to be quicker with their response.
01:04When I was young, a policeman would be not far away.
01:08If the shop had somebody stealing something, he'd shout, officer, and he'd come.
01:13Mayerside was one of the first forces in the UK to implement this model ahead of its national rollout in January of 2023.
01:19Three years on from its launch, the force says the scheme, now rolled out across four areas, has led to a 300% increase in community intelligence.
01:30It also led to more than 5,300 arrests and the seizure of around 630 kilos of Class A and B drugs, more than 260 offensive weapons, 28 firearms, and about ÂŁ2.5 million in cash and assets, which is being reinvested into communities.
01:48Yeah, and by the police, I think they are doing their jobs very well because they have to be watchful and whenever the individuals call them, they have to respond quickly.
02:00They're probably OK, except that you can't find a policeman.
02:06They're very elusive.
02:09And things that you report, they don't usually come out now.
02:14They just take a brief detail and give you a number.
02:17If you have a problem, like someone's harassing you or someone's trying to hurt you, it takes them nearly nine months to even do something.
02:29Detective Chief Superintendent Graham Robson said the three murders rocked the area, but police had seen a strong and positive response.
02:38Each phase has a distinct purpose.
02:41CLEA focuses on disrupting and removing criminals from communities, hold aims to stabilise the area and prevent the return of criminal activity,
02:49and build works to strengthen communities and reduce vulnerability to crime.
02:53Local authorities are the lead agency for the BUILD phases.
02:57Exactly.
