Mother of murdered Olivia Pratt-Korbel joins call for communities to speak out

00:00The mother of murdered 9-year-old Olivia Pratt-Corbell has joined other families affected by gun crime

00:06to urge communities to speak out, almost three years on from her daughter's shooting.

00:11Her death was the third fatal shooting within a week in Merseyside,

00:15where 28-year-old Ashley Dale had been shot in her home in Old Swan in the early hours of the previous day,

00:20and Sam Rimmer, 22, had been killed in Dingle on the 16th of August.

00:25In the wake of the three murders, Merseyside Police received home office funding for a clear-hold-build operation,

00:32known locally as Evolve, designed to clear communities of crime and rebuild them.

00:37Speaking ahead of the third anniversary of her death, Olivia's mother Cheryl said,

00:42Evolve was created to help prevent further tragedies and other families from having to endure the pain we feel every single day.

00:50While it's making a difference, we need your help to keep our communities safe.

00:54If you know anything about criminality, please speak out.

00:58Last week, Ms Corbelt was at Olivia's tree planting in her memory in Dovecot to meet partners from Evolve,

01:05as well as Tim Edwards, whose daughter Ellie Edwards, 26, died in a shooting outside a pub on the Wirral on Christmas Eve of 2022.

01:14Mr Edwards said the families had got to know each other since the tragedies.

01:18He said the Evolve program, which was set up in Wirral after Ellie's death, gave him hope.

01:24He added, Ellie should still be here, living her life and making plans for her future.
