01:39In the past seven months, we've given away over $2,600,000 in houses, cash, and prices.
01:47Today, on our celebrity special, these two couples will add to that incredible toast.
01:52This is Donna and Dan Fleckman.
01:55Today, they make their second attempt to win this beautiful Hamilton home.
02:00And this is Patricia and Daryl Sanders.
02:03They're playing for the handsome Casaloma model.
02:05And now, here is the man with the key to your Dream House, Mr. Bob Eubank.
02:14Thank you very much.
02:16Thank you, and welcome to Dream House.
02:17We're so glad you could join us today.
02:18We've got all kinds of exciting things happen around here this week.
02:21Today, like every day, one of our two couples will have a chance to win their fabulous Dream House
02:25by trying to open those golden doors.
02:27Back behind me, we have champions.
02:28They won yesterday for the first time.
02:30Let's welcome them now.
02:31Dan and Donna Kleckner.
02:32Welcome back to our show.
02:34Hi, Dan.
02:36First of all, congratulations.
02:38You won over $6,600 yesterday in cash and prices.
02:44And I know you were up there saying,
02:45I can't believe this is happening.
02:47Can you believe this is happening to us?
02:48My goodness.
02:49All right, you've got the furniture, or you've at least got one room.
02:51What house would you like to put that furniture in?
02:54Hamilton.
02:54The Hamilton.
02:55Here is your house then.
02:56Johnny?
02:56Donna and Dan have chosen the beautiful Hamilton home,
02:59which opens into a formal entry and flushly carpeted living room.
03:02Master bedroom and baths with oak wood cabinets are but a few of the amenities in this gracious house,
03:07built by U.S. Home.
03:08Okay, Bob.
03:09Thank you, John.
03:10Now, all this week, what we've done is we've invited some celebrities to join us here on Dream House,
03:15and we have two very fine people.
03:17And by a flip of a coin backstage, that's how we decide which celebrity plays with what team.
03:21Would you like to meet your celebrity teammate?
03:23Yes, I would.
03:23He's the man that everybody knows as Mr. Drummond.
03:26On Facts of Life, would you say, did I say Facts of Life?
03:28Yeah.
03:29I did say that, didn't I?
03:30Different strokes.
03:31Sorry about that.
03:32Welcome and say hi to my friend, Conrad Bain.
03:35Conrad.
03:36Dan and Donna, you look nothing like Charlotte Rae.
03:45I just want you to know that.
03:46We were talking about Charlotte Rae earlier and then had it in my mind.
03:49How long have you been doing different strokes?
03:50Sixth year.
03:51This is the sixth year.
03:52And Gary Coleman has to be one of the most talented people in the world.
03:56Oh, he's an incredible young man.
03:58He really is, yeah.
03:59And I can remember years ago, the two of us did a game show together at that time,
04:03and you said that not only is he incredible, but he's a loving little fellow.
04:06Oh, yes.
04:08Affectionate and considerate and unusual human being.
04:11That's great.
04:11By any measure.
04:12That's great.
04:12Well, these people right here, as you know, you were here yesterday.
04:16They won a beautiful room of furniture, and what they want to do is to try to win a house.
04:20And it's up to you to win that house for them.
04:22Going to do it.
04:23No pressure at all.
04:24No.
04:24I like that.
04:25Nice to have you with us.
04:26Nice to be here.
04:26Let's meet the new challengers.
04:27This is Patricia and Daryl Sanders.
04:30Hi.
04:30Welcome.
04:31What a nice-looking couple you are.
04:35Where do you live?
04:36Culver City, California.
04:37Okay.
04:38And do you work?
04:39Yes.
04:40I'm a government employee pro tem.
04:43I'm kind of on a temporary layoff there.
04:46Aren't we all?
04:47Yeah.
04:47You ought to be a game show host.
04:49You want to be on a layoff temporary.
04:50I mean, I tell you, I buy everything on a 13-week contract.
04:53Do you ever try to buy a car?
04:54You walk in, you say, I'd like to buy a car.
04:56Okay, how many years do you want?
04:57I want 13 weeks.
04:59What do you do?
04:59I work for a supermarket.
05:01Oh, great.
05:01Do you have children?
05:02No, we don't have any children now.
05:04How many are we going to have?
05:05Two would be enough.
05:07Boy, can I tell you, that would be plenty.
05:09Yes, I promise you that.
05:10Now, which house would you like to house these little kids in?
05:12We're playing for the Casa Loma.
05:13The Casa Loma.
05:14Here's your house right here.
05:15Patricia and Darryl have picked this charming ranch-style model, the Casa Loma.
05:19It features large picture windows, an extensive living room, cathedral ceiling, a classic kitchen
05:24with breakfast bar, and a lovely master bedroom and bath, built by U.S. Home.
05:29Bob, thank you, John.
05:30Now, I want you to meet your celebrity partner because this lady also is on Different Strokes,
05:35one of the stars of Different Strokes.
05:36She plays the housekeeper, Pearl Gallagher.
05:38Say hi, if you would, please, to Mary Jo Catlin.
05:40And here's to you.
05:45Hi.
05:45Hi.
05:46Patricia and Darryl Sanders.
05:47Hi.
05:47Good meeting you.
05:48Good meeting for the very first time.
05:50And they're very interested to win this house.
05:52I feel good.
05:53You did good yesterday.
05:54I had a good time.
05:55Didn't we have a good time?
05:56Let me ask you a personal question.
05:58Do you enjoy the role that you're playing on Different Strokes?
06:01I love it.
06:02I just love it.
06:03Does everybody get along?
06:04I mean, you've seen how we argue around here.
06:06You know, I'm temperamental.
06:07You know how it is.
06:08Terrible thing.
06:09Well, four out of the five of us get along.
06:12Oh, I'm sorry, Conrad.
06:14I wasn't going to say anything.
06:15He doesn't argue with anybody.
06:17He's wonderful.
06:17I know.
06:18Well, anyway, I think it shows when you're around people like this.
06:21It shows the kind of an atmosphere that's on a show.
06:23And it's nice to have you with us.
06:24Okay.
06:24They're going to try to win a house.
06:25And I know that Conrad and his team want to try to win a house.
06:27And there's two ways that a couple can win a brand new home here on Dream House.
06:30Either they win it instantly at the end of our show, or if they play our Dream House game.
06:33Win it six days in a row, then the house is automatically theirs.
06:36And every day our couples are competing for cash.
06:38And a fabulous room of furniture.
06:40Here's the pretty Debbie Bartlett to show you why all the pretty Johnny Gilbert tells you
06:43about the room that one of our couples will win today.
06:46Here it is.
06:46Okay.
06:47It's a Dream House den.
06:50Valued at $5,439.
06:54Isn't that nice?
06:55That's the couple with the highest score at the end of the first round.
06:57Also wins a decorator baker's rack and kitchen appliances.
07:00You've met all of our couples.
07:01You've met the celebrities.
07:02You know what the prizes are.
07:03We'll be back to see who can win what right after this.
07:06We'll be back to see who can win.
07:08We'll be back to see who can win.
07:10Now there's even more chow-chow-chow in Purina Cat Chow, more real fish, meat, and milk flavor.
07:25That's almost double the real flavor Cat Chow had before.
07:28So now you're not only going to be one of the healthiest cats, you'll be one of the happiest.
07:33Veterinarians sure know what they're saying when they recommend Cat Chow brand cat food.
07:37So let's chow-chow-chow together.
07:40Now there's more chow-chow-chow if Purina Cat Chow.
07:45When I've got a splitting headache, I want what works.
07:49And Extra Strength Datril has been working for me every bit as well as Extra Strength Tylenol since I switched.
07:54And now I know why.
07:56Datril and Tylenol have the exact same aspirin-free pain reliever and strength.
08:01Exactly the same.
08:03I know because I asked my doctor about Datril.
08:05Yet Extra Strength Tylenol can cost so much more.
08:08So I'm staying with Datril.
08:10Why would I pay that much more for the same relief?
08:13Why would anybody?
08:14Well, get back to Dreamhouse now.
08:20We're ready to play our game.
08:21Everybody ready to do this?
08:22We're going to start off with a $50 true or false question.
08:24If you get it right, you get $50 and a chance to pick a category.
08:26But if you miss the true or false question, then the money goes to the other team and they get a chance to pick a category.
08:31Whatever you do, don't ring in until I've completed the question.
08:33And in round one, only three categories, and it's the celebrities and the wives that will be controlling the buttons.
08:38So if everybody is ready, here we go.
08:40True or false?
08:40In the Italian language, the word Italy means shaped like a boot.
08:44True or false?
08:45Patricia?
08:46True.
08:46No, that's false.
08:47That's false.
08:48It means grazing land.
08:50Italy means grazing land.
08:51I thought so.
08:52Yes.
08:54You're smart.
08:54Oh, boy.
08:55That means the $50 comes to your side, the chance to pick a category.
08:59And now, if you would, please, gang, take a look at the categories we're playing for in round one.
09:02As I said, only three categories per round.
09:03Take a deep breath, role model for kids, and popping the question.
09:07Conrad and gang, pick a category.
09:09Let's take a deep breath.
09:10Take a deep breath.
09:10Okay.
09:10You could use a word.
09:11Take a deep breath.
09:13Careful.
09:14For $100, experts refer to it as the hee-hee breathing.
09:18Is it the kind of breathing you do when you're laughing hysterically, doing aerobics, or practicing natural childbirth?
09:26The hee-hee breathing.
09:27What do you think?
09:28Practicing natural childbirth.
09:30How many children do you have?
09:30None, but I'm a nurse.
09:32We've been practicing.
09:33Yes.
09:34Did you know what hee-hee is?
09:35No, no.
09:36I thought it was a television show from Nashville, but I guess it's not.
09:38That's the only part of it.
09:39If you want to challenge, each couple gets a chance to challenge twice in the first round.
09:43Do you wish to challenge their practicing natural childbirth answer?
09:47We're having such discussions over here.
09:49Challenge or not?
09:50I think so.
09:50Uh-oh.
09:51Okay, we're challenged.
09:52We're going to challenge.
09:53What's your answer, please?
09:54Doing aerobics.
09:55Doing aerobics.
09:56Right.
09:57I go, uh-uh, when I do aerobics.
09:59Not hee-hee.
10:00Hee-hee breathing is the kind of breathing you do when you're practicing natural childbirth.
10:05$100 for the correct answer, $50 for the incorrect challenge.
10:08$200 for our champion.
10:09$0 for our challenger.
10:11Everybody ready?
10:12True or false?
10:12Here we go.
10:13On three separate occasions, Sarah Lee actually dated Chef Boyardee.
10:18True or false down there?
10:20Uh, Donna.
10:20False.
10:21Yeah, that's false.
10:23It's a four occasion.
10:24What a silly question, you know?
10:26I mean, after all.
10:28But let's face it, that if Conway Twitty married Kitty Wells, her name would be Kitty Twitty.
10:33That's true.
10:34You never thought about that?
10:35No, I'm glad I didn't.
10:36Pick it.
10:36Oh.
10:37I'm sorry, I did.
10:39If Corbett Monica married Santa Burger, her name would be Santa Monica.
10:43Pick a category.
10:44What do you like?
10:46Popping the question?
10:47Sure.
10:48Popping the question.
10:49Popping the question.
10:50I'll be the answer for that.
10:51Okay, fine.
10:51Good.
10:52Did you propose to your wife?
10:52Did she propose to you?
10:54Oh, I proposed to her.
10:55No kidding.
10:56Yeah.
10:56Old-fashioned.
10:57Oh, very.
10:58Yes.
10:58I'm old.
10:59You've got to be.
11:00But you're in fashion.
11:01You're looking fine.
11:01According to a recent survey reported in the World Weekly News, where is the favorite place
11:06for a smitten suitor to pop the question?
11:08Do 52% of marriage proposals occur in a car, in a romantic restaurant, or between the sheets?
11:1852%?
11:20You're a little...
11:20You've got the 37 years.
11:22We've got it 10 months.
11:23Yeah, but it's so long since I proposed, I've forgotten what I did.
11:26Romantic restaurant.
11:27Yeah.
11:27You say in a romantic restaurant.
11:28Let's see if they wish to challenge.
11:30Daryl, Patricia, and Mary Jo, do you want to challenge that answer?
11:32Yes.
11:32They say it's in a restaurant.
11:33There goes your last challenge, and what's your answer?
11:35Between the sheets.
11:38Yeah, I can't believe I said that.
11:4052% of all marriage proposals occur between the sheets.
11:43Yeah.
11:50Now, is that where...
11:52Did he...
11:53Yeah.
11:54Found out.
11:55Didn't even have to ask.
11:56Okay.
11:57True or false.
11:59One category, one toss-up remains.
12:01Here we go.
12:01True or false.
12:01In New York City, a United States senator was recently mugged right in front of the police
12:05commissioner's house.
12:07True or false?
12:08Patricia.
12:08True.
12:08Yeah, it's true.
12:09Right in front of that commissioner's house.
12:12His name is Christopher Dodd.
12:14Mugged right there in front of the policeman's house.
12:16Now, you have $150.
12:17There's one category remaining.
12:19You can tie the game up with a correct answer right here.
12:22This is the last of round one, so it's important.
12:25Role model for kids.
12:26When the American Psychological Association met to examine the role that fantasy and cartoons
12:31play in child development, they picked the character they considered to be an excellent
12:36role model.
12:37Was the subject of their symposium Charlie Brown, Mickey Mouse, or Superman?
12:43For $100, a chance to tie the game.
12:47That's a reference.
12:49The American Psychological Association.
12:50You're strong.
12:51What do you think?
12:52Answer, please.
12:53Mickey Mouse.
12:54Mickey Mouse.
12:54For some reason.
12:56Mickey Mouse.
12:56Mickey Mouse is your answer.
12:58Let's see if they wish to challenge.
12:59They say Mickey Mouse was the perfect role model for children.
13:03Okay.
13:04We'll go with it.
13:04You're challenging?
13:05Yes.
13:06Oh, boy.
13:06And your answer, please.
13:07Go ahead.
13:08Charlie Brown.
13:09Charlie Brown.
13:09If it's Charlie Brown, that means that Dan and Donna and Conrad will win round one.
13:15Whoa, whoa, whoa.
13:16If it's Mickey Mouse, Patricia, Daryl, and Mary Jo, we'll win round one because they'll
13:22get $100 plus 50 for an incorrect challenge.
13:25So this is it.
13:25This is for the winners of round one.
13:27The subject of their symposium was Mickey Mouse.
13:31And that means the $300, Mary Jo, Patricia, and Daryl, you just won round one.
13:37And here's round one.
13:38Well, Patricia and Daryl, for your generous pleasure in your den, you just won this attractive
13:4376-inch baker's rack for decorative display or practical use, furnished by the Antique
13:48Guild.
13:48And you may serve refreshments in the den with Hamilton Beach Kitchen Appliances, featuring
13:53the six-feet food processor and 12-cup automatic drip coffee maker with brew start clock and
13:57timer, furnished by Hamilton Beach Scoville.
13:59It's a total retail value of $576, and it's all yours on Dreamhouse.
14:06Congratulations to you.
14:07Good.
14:07Nice prize.
14:08You win round one.
14:09But this is still anybody's game.
14:10And round two, when we come back, that's when the dollars can double in one of the categories.
14:14And one of our couples will win that great room of furniture and a chance to win their
14:16Dreamhouse.
14:17We'll be back for that right after these words.
14:19You're still using two products to clean and soften clothes?
14:35Why hassle?
14:36Break the softener habit.
14:39For easy softening, clean with YES.
14:42YES detergent has the softener built in.
14:44With YES, I get cleaning power that won't quit, but goes in looking mean.
14:50Comes out YES clean.
14:52Mmm, and soft.
14:54And no sticky static.
14:56Break the softener habit.
14:57For easy softening, clean with YES.
15:01Karen, did you give your family those vitamins?
15:03Why not?
15:04You buy cereal without sugar, jam without artificial color.
15:07These have artificial color and sugar?
15:09Or preservatives, most leading vitamins do.
15:11But not New Life Stage from Vicks.
15:13They're pure vitamins my family wants without additives they don't.
15:16There's a women's formula with 50% more iron than one a day.
15:19A formula just for teens.
15:21And a children's chewable without sugar.
15:23And all pure.
15:24I'm sold.
15:25New Life Stage.
15:26Pure vitamins your family wants without additives they don't.
15:30From Vicks.
15:31Betty Crocker muffin mixes are bursting with real fruit.
15:34There's new apple cinnamon.
15:36Bake someone happy.
15:38New tart cherry.
15:39Bake someone happy.
15:41And traditional wild blueberry.
15:43You and Betty Crocker can.
15:45Each one comes with a can of real fruit.
15:47For muffins bursting with real fruit flavor.
15:49New apple cinnamon.
15:51New tart cherry.
15:52And wild blueberry muffin mixes.
15:54So bursting with fruit.
15:55You and Betty Crocker can.
15:58Bake someone happy.
15:59Got these sneaks jammies too.
16:07Now let's see what we find for you.
16:12There's more for your life at Sears.
16:14For all the things you do.
16:16Wilson, Ken and Cheryl Teagues.

16:23More for your life.
16:23For the times of your life.
16:24There's more for your life at Sears.
16:33Welcome back to Dreamhouse.
16:35We're about to begin round two now.
16:36And our champions over here, the Clickners.
16:38They have $250.
16:39They almost won round one.
16:41They're only $50 behind.
16:42Conrad Bain is their celebrity teammate.
16:45And on the other side, our challengers are Daryl and Patricia Sanders.
16:49They just won round one with Mary Jo Catlett as their celebrity teammate.
16:53Now we're going to begin round two.
16:54And in round two, I want to remind everybody that we give our couples a chance to double
16:57their dollars in one of the categories.
16:59And these are the categories that we're playing for in our second round.
17:02Here they come.
17:03Growing Field, Past the Veggies, Jack of All Flags.
17:06We're only using three categories all week long.
17:08Once again, each couple has a chance to challenge twice.
17:11These are your challenge cards.
17:12Good luck to you.
17:13And here we go.
17:13True or false question.
17:15A marriage counselor in California's high-tech Silicon Valley says that most marriages break
17:20up there due to hubby's undying love for his computer over his wife.
17:24True or false, Mary Jo?
17:26True.
17:26That is true.
17:27Yes.
17:27Yay!
17:28Yes.
17:30Have to compete with a computer would be a heck of a deal, wouldn't it?
17:34Now, those are the three categories.
17:35So, Daryl, Patricia, and Mary Jo, pick a category.
17:38Past the Veggies.
17:39Past the Veggies?
17:40Past the Veggies.
17:40Past the Veggies.
17:41Remember, you can double your dollars in one of the categories.
17:43Which of these vegetables traces its roots back to the Bronze Age?
17:48Would you like to double your dollars on this one?
17:49You have $3.50.
17:50They have $2.50.
17:51Which of these vegetables traces its roots back to the Bronze Age?
17:54No pun intended there.
17:56Not going to double your dollars on it.
17:57Not going to double your dollars.
17:58Is it the Jerusalem artichoke, the pea, or the potato?
18:01The potato.
18:03The potato?
18:04I bet you're right.
18:05Let's try that.
18:06Okay.
18:06Answer, please.
18:07Potato.
18:07The potato.
18:08Let's see if they want a challenge.
18:09How about it?
18:09Dan, Donna, and Conrad, you wish to challenge their answer for $100?
18:13Do you have any idea?
18:14Yeah.
18:15Well, it traces its roots back to the Bronze Age.
18:19Challenge or not?
18:19Tell me if you want a challenge or not.
18:21I'm going to try that one.
18:22No.
18:22Not going to challenge?
18:23Fine.
18:24Here we go.
18:24The vegetable that traces its roots back to the Bronze Age is the pea.
18:29No one wants any money on that one.
18:30Let's go to another one, then.
18:32True or false?
18:33For 1984, there's a pin-up calendar which features a look at male celebrities' buns.
18:39True or false, Donna?
18:40Excuse me, Dan.
18:41The husbands are playing with the celebrities this time.
18:42Dan?
18:43True.
18:43That is true, yes.
18:44I don't know.
18:46I'm really upset.
18:48They asked Bruce Jenner and Ed Marinaro from Hill Street Blues, did they go to you and
18:52ask to see a picture of your buns?
18:54Yes.
18:54They did?
18:55Oh, now I'm really upset.
18:56I wouldn't show them.
18:57No, they didn't.
18:58Really upset because they didn't ask me a thing about that.
19:01$300 for you guys.
19:03They have $350.
19:03Pick a category.
19:06Which one?
19:07What would you pick?
19:08If it was mine, I'd say Growing Field.
19:10Growing Field.
19:11Growing Field.
19:11All right.
19:12Remember, you can double your dollars.
19:13The Bureau of Labor Statistics says this is the fastest-growing profession in America.
19:17What is the job?
19:18Double your bucks or not?
19:21No, I don't think so.
19:22Not going to double your dollars?
19:23Okay.
19:23What's the fastest-growing profession in America?
19:26Okay.
19:26Is it computer programmer, paralegal, or aerobics instructor?
19:30Computer programmer.
19:32Answer, please.
19:33Speak up real loud for me, Gain.
19:34I'd say...
19:35Computer programmer.
19:36Computer programmer.
19:37Let's see if there's a challenge over here.
19:38Darrell, Patricia, and Mary Jo, do you wish to challenge that answer?
19:40Yes.
19:41You are going to challenge, and your answer is what?
19:43Aerobics instructor.
19:44Aerobics instructor.
19:45The fastest-growing profession in America is a paralegal.
19:49Again.
19:51No one wins any money.
19:52We have $300 for our champions, $350 for our challengers.
19:55One toss-up question.
19:56One category remains.
19:57True or false?
19:5889% of all the land in Alaska is owned by Eskimos.
20:01True or false, Darrell?
20:03False.
20:03That is false.
20:04You're right about that.
20:06Now you have $400.
20:07They have $300.
20:09One category remains.
20:10Jack of all flags.
20:11Neither couple has used their double dollar.
20:13Here's the question.
20:14That familiar design on the British flag is called the Union Jack.
20:17On which of our United States flags would you also find the Union Jack design?
20:22Is it on the state flag of which state?
20:24So tell me.
20:25Would you like to make this your double dollar or not?
20:27We'll double the dollar here.
20:28Double your bucks.
20:29This is for double the dollars.
20:30Everybody understand?
20:31On which of our United States flags would you also find the Union Jack design?
20:36Is it on the state flag of Hawaii, Virginia, or Massachusetts?
20:40Yeah, I believe it is.
20:43It's not Hawaii.
20:44It's Virginia.
20:47It's Virginia.
20:47Answer, please.
20:48Virginia.
20:49Virginia is your answer.
20:50You wish to challenge.
20:51You are going to challenge in your answer.
20:53Massachusetts.
20:54Massachusetts and Virginia.
20:55This is for the game, ladies and gentlemen.
20:58The Union Jack design is found on the state flag of Hawaii.
21:02No one wins any money on that one.
21:04And we've got new champions.
21:06Taylor and Patricia Sanders with $400.
21:08You just won your first game.
21:10Oh, I was surprised at that, too.
21:14Good night, Scott.
21:15Well, thank you so very much.

This may be the oldest game show for which the regular host and announcer are both still alive. Eubanks did work with two other regular announcers in the 70s, Jim Thompson on DIamond Head Game, and TOny McClay was I believe the regular announcer for a chunk on All-Star Secrets' run(Conrad Bain was a celeb on that show as Eubanks references here). Don't know if Thompson or McClay are still alive.
