00:24From Hollywood, here's the game where knowledge is king and lady luck is queen.
00:28It's the Jokers Wild!
00:32And here's the host of the show, Jack Barry!
00:43Thank you very much and welcome once again to the Jokers Wild.
00:45We crowned a brand new champion on our last show.
00:48Won a couple of games and won one game at least, one good game,
00:53and then was defeated by the devil and he's anxious to win game number two.
00:55So, Charlie, would you reintroduce the champion and the next challenger?
00:58Our current champion, whose winnings in cash and prizes total $1,000.
01:03He's a law student who enjoys samurai movies, kung fu, playing football and basketball, Tom Liu.
01:09And his opponent, she's a theatrical stage manager and newlywed,
01:13who enjoys quilting, cooking and photography, Roberta Klein!
01:22Rebecca and Tom, nice to have you back on the Jokers Wild.
01:24We introduced both of you on the last program, but our time ran out.
01:28Tom, you did win a game and also, you won a special prize for getting three of a kind.
01:34And the interesting thing is that you won satin bed sheets.
01:37And that's nice. Isn't that a lovely prize to win?
01:42Yes, it is.
01:43You have some use for them?
01:44I hope so.
01:45You're going to put them in your college dormitory or something like that?
01:49Well, I live in an apartment, yes, but I will be using it. I'm sure. I hope so.
01:54That's true. I'm sure they'll be using the $1,000 that you won.
01:57Of course, that is cash and the prizes.
01:59And now you play against Rebecca Klein.
02:01Rebecca, you were explaining in the last program that you were a stage manager.
02:04You explained the duties, which, of course, I know about.
02:07Does anybody, since you have to tell everybody where to go and where to put themselves,
02:11does anybody ever end up in the wrong place at the wrong time?
02:14That happens occasionally. Things go wrong. All sorts of things go wrong.
02:18We were once doing a production of the ballet The Nutcracker,
02:20and it was during the snow scene of the ballet, and the little girl and her little prince were center stage,
02:25waiting for a light snowfall to begin.
02:27And all of a sudden, there was a slight error from backstage,
02:30and a whole bag of fake snow fell on these two little children.
02:34There was like a half inch of snow across the whole stage,
02:37which then the rest of the dancers had to dance through.
02:39Oh, dear. Well, you know what they say, there's no business like snow business.
02:42That's right.
02:43So it's appropriate.
02:45How would you like to play a little game here?
02:47Here are the categories in the game. They are as follows.
02:50Fast forward science, I'll explain that in a moment, followed by rock groups.
02:54Then we have poetry, all about colors, and finally, today's name is Napoleon.
02:59Napoleon. Questions about Napoleon.
03:01You're first, Rebecca. Spinning. Good luck.
03:03Thank you. Come on, Joker.
03:05Joker, Joker, Joker!
03:08There's no business like snow business.
03:18Oh, boy, you snowed on Tom that time.
03:20What category do you want to play?
03:22I'll take All About Colors, please.
03:24All About Colors.
03:26If you answer this question correctly, because you got three jokers, you become the new champion.
03:30Listen to these clues.
03:32Blue Hawaii, Blue Suede Shoes, GI Blues.
03:35For $500 in the championship, what's the last name of the singer you associate with those colorful clues?
03:40Presley.
03:41Presley.
03:42You win. $500. Congratulations.
03:44Congratulations to Rebecca Klein. You're $500 richer, and in just a moment, you get a chance to play against the devil.
03:53Well, Tom, that was bad luck for you.
03:55Fortunately, you won those satin bed sheets, and you won $500, and I'm sure you're going to have a brilliant career as a lawyer, and you've been a delight to have on the program.
04:03A nice hand for Tom Liu and his $1,000 in cash and prizes. We'll be back in just a moment.
04:18It's 10 o'clock update.
04:19To win more, come on over and face the devil.
04:24Congratulations.
04:25Thank you very much.
04:26This is just as much fun as stage managing, isn't it?
04:29Yes.
04:30And as a stage manager, you ought to know that if you don't look out that way, the cameras aren't going to see you.
04:34They're going to see the back of your head, which is rather pretty, as a matter of fact.
04:37You're going to play against the devil now, and if you can get to $1,000 without seeing the devil, you'll get an extra $1,000 and these gifts.
04:43Rebecca, we're told that for everything there is a season, so listen to this collection of prizes designed for all seasons.
04:49First, Rebecca, dare to be adventurous and ride those summer waves atop this fabulous wind sailor.
04:54O'Brien Free Sail Sail Board combines the thrill of surfing with the control of sailing.

05:06Then, as the autumn leaves change color, celebrate with one last barbecue cooked on this terrific gas grill.
05:12For your outdoor cooking pleasure, a large-capacity Falcon gas grill with dual burners and automatic ignition for quick, safe starts.

05:26The Apache Fireplace Insert Wood Stove is a beautiful way to save money on heating your home from Apache stoves.
05:32And finally, Rebecca, for springtime, you're off for the ultimate spring fling, a vacation in Mexico City.
05:39The Campbell in the larger city of Mexico will fly you there by a Western Airlines wide-body spaceship.
05:44Featuring Western's Fiesta Flight Service, Western Airlines the only way to fly.

06:06Thanks.
06:07First pin is $25,100 and $150.
06:13That's $275.
06:15I'll go on.
06:16I'll go on.
06:17Okay.
06:21$150 and $25.
06:24We have $4,300.
06:27Oh!
06:28They say go.
06:29Okay.
06:33$150.
06:34$50.
06:35A good one.
06:37$5,600 and $750.
06:41I'll go for it.
06:42Risking $750.
06:43It's funny.
06:44You hesitated.
06:45You thought it for a moment.
06:46You weren't going to go.
06:47You thought of having $750 in your pocket, and then at the last minute, you looked out in the audience and they told you to go.
06:58And she'd like to tell you where to go.
07:01But she won't do it.
07:02Instead, go on back and play another game.
07:04A nice hand for a disappointed lady.
07:06Who will she play against next?
07:08Jackie's a photographic accessory salesman who likes old automobiles and antique airplanes.
07:12Steve Andrews.
07:17Hello, Steve.
07:18How are you?
07:19Hi, Jack. How are you?
07:20Nice to have you here.
07:22Tell us about your interest in antique airplanes.
07:23Jack, I'm a member of the American Aviation Historical Society, a society that's for the prevention and collection of material for antique aircraft, keeping them flying and keeping everybody else informed.
07:32What do you find so interesting about old planes?
07:35The interesting thing for me is the technology that has happened over the last 50 or so years from the Wright Flyer to the 747s and the big planes today.
07:43They do the same exact thing.
07:44They just are bigger and better.
07:46I often comment about the fact that I did get my pilot's license about 10, 12 years ago and flew for a number of years.
07:53I'm not flying anymore.
07:54And I can remember the first time I went out on my experimental flight with my instructor.
07:59And when we got finished, he said, you've heard of the Wright brothers?
08:02And I said, yes.
08:03He said, you're wrong.
08:04Take a look at the categories.
08:07Here they are.
08:08In this game, they're potluck.
08:09They can be in the center category.

08:34Good time Charlie's got the what?
08:36Lose.
08:37The what?
08:38Lose.
08:39No, that's not correct.

08:45You got $200.
08:46And it's your spin.
08:48Hold on a second, Rebecca.
08:49I assume, Steve, you did say lose.
08:51Absolutely.
08:52I wasn't sure at first.

14:46It's a lot easier.
14:47Well, survival is what the game is all about here on The Joker's Wild.
14:51You have to survive against Rebecca, who has just won $5,425.

19:09Oh!
19:12That wasn't so much fun, was it?
19:15It's not my...
19:17It's what?
19:18It's bad.
19:19It's very bad.
19:21I'm very unhappy.
19:22But the thing I'm happy about is that
19:24you're going to get $120.
19:26That's not too bad.
19:27That's not bad.
19:29No.
19:30What are you going to do with $120?
19:34Oh, yeah.
19:34That's right.
19:36Somebody over there said you're going to go to Las Vegas.
19:38Who told you that?
19:39We're planning to go to Las Vegas this weekend.
19:43You're planning to win?
19:44Go to Las Vegas.
19:46Yeah.
19:46You're planning to win?
19:47A lot of dollars.
19:52That's a nice thing to win, a lot of dollars.
19:54Here's $120 to start.
19:55There's $100, and there's $120.
19:59Now, I hope you use that well, and you have very, very good luck in Las Vegas.
20:03And you stay here one second, because talking of luck, it is, of course, luck if you get selected out of our studio audience, as Candida was.
20:09And then it takes even more luck once you spin against the devil.
20:13But, of course, the first requisite is that you be here in our studio audience.
20:16And to do that, you truly must write in advance.
20:19If you're from Seattle or Portland or even New York City or Washington or Chicago, you're planning a trip to California.
20:26Please do, long before you come, send a letter to us and tell us that you'd like to have some tickets so you can be in the show,
20:32so you can get up here and pull against spinning against the devil.
20:34Now, Charlie O'Donnell is standing by waiting to give you that address.
20:36Please write it down and do write to us when you're planning to be here.
20:39Charlie?
20:40If you would like information on how to be a contestant on The Joker's Wild or to join us here in the studio audience,
20:46drop a postcard, and please make sure it's a postcard.
20:49Drop it to The Joker's Wild, Post Office Box 227, Los Angeles, California, 90048.
20:58Back to you, Jack.
20:59Good luck in Las Vegas, Candida, and we'll see all of you next time here on The Joker's Wild.
21:03Thanks for watching, and bye-bye, everybody.
