A major safety push is underway across the West of England, as Mayor Helen Godwin and Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody launch a new campaign to crack down on unsafe e-scooter use.

00:00A major safety push is underway across the west of England as Mayor Helen Godwin and Police and Crime Commissioner Claire Moody launch a new campaign to crack down on unsafe e-scooter use.
00:13It's called ScootSafe and it comes as the region's e-scooter and e-bike trial continues to grow rapidly.
00:20With over 2,500 e-scooters and more than 1,500 e-bikes now on the street, there are almost 10,000 rides a day happening across Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas.
00:35But with growth has come concern, from pavement clutter to dangerous riding and limited access for disabled people.
00:43The mayor says that convenient travel for some shouldn't inconvenience others and the campaign sets out to make that a reality.
00:52New measures will target users riding in pairs, parking outside designated bays or using scooters under the influence.
01:00Anyone found breaking the rules risk suspension from the Dot app, on-the-spot fines or even police action.
01:07Meanwhile, newly marked bays are being rolled out to bring more order to busy areas.
01:14The Police and Crime Commissioner says that the message is clear.
01:19While rental scooters are here to stay, they need to be used safely and private illegal scooters remain of real concern.
01:27Residents are being encouraged to report misuse through Crimestoppers or local police teams.
01:33The campaign also marks another expansion of the trial, this time into Yate and Tripping Sobry, joining recent rollouts in Lye Green, Cabri Heath and Winter Bourne.
