00:00Thank you Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the privilege to share with you a very powerful perspective.
00:12What we're spending time on at this particular moment to me is a bit disappointing.
00:22I will tell you that right now, what this body needs is to build trust with its constituency.
00:34Polls have overwhelmingly indicated that there's a lack of trust.
00:39And what we're considering on doing is feeding that lack of trust.
00:46You know, I had a very respected colleague that I spoke with just recently, who told
00:52me that this is all political.
00:55You can define it as you wish, but I can tell you, no matter what your position is on this
01:01thing, and we're going to be talking a lot about it, and there's going to be a lot of
01:05blah, blah, blah.
01:07But I'm telling you, when it comes down to it, does this enhance trust with our people?
01:16We all admit that gerrymandering is controlled by people who have something to benefit.
01:27That is not what our people want.
01:30That's been very clearly stated by their vote.
01:33So why, no matter what the justification is, why would we engage in behavior that we know
01:39is considered unacceptable by those who elect us?
01:44I would ask for you to please reflect on that, because it's very meaningful.
01:50And I know that we can be distracted by a lot of influencers in this institution, a lot
01:55of people that we admire and respect.
01:57But when it comes down to it, it's a mirror that we have to respond to.
02:03Please think about that.
02:04Please think about, is what we're doing building trust with our constituency?
02:10I think you know what the answer to that is when we engage in supporting gerrymandering.
02:16Please resist it, and please think about what you're doing.
