00:00Thank you, Mr. Speaker, members. I rise today to express my full-throated support for ACA 8.
00:09Members, we must act today with an unfaltering commitment to our democracy.
00:16Let's be clear. Today we are responding to a serious emergency for our country.
00:23Today's vote is an act of patriotism.
00:26The vote today is about protecting health care for millions of our people.
00:32It's about making people feel safe again, all our people feeling safe again,
00:38instead of fearing that they'll be snatched off the street with no warning.
00:43It's about protecting reproductive choice and safeguarding our planet.
00:48And it's about standing up and fighting an unprecedented and exigent march towards dictatorship.
00:59You know, my dad fought for this country in the Korean War.
01:03He fought and had rheumatic fever and spent his life with health care issues because of that and died an early death.
01:14He enlisted in the Air Force because of his love for our country and his love for our democracy.
01:23He would be turning in his grave if he understood what Donald Trump was doing today.
01:30When I look into my kids' eyes, and hopefully my grandkids' eyes in the future,
01:38I don't want to regret that we didn't fight hard enough for them.
01:43I want them to know that today was an important day for our country,
01:50an important day for our democracy,
01:53an important day for the United States of America that we love so much.
02:00I want them to know that we fought for them.
02:03We fought for their future.
02:05We did everything in our power to assure that they could live in a democracy
02:10in the same way that we have lived in a democracy for over 250 years,
02:17that we fought for our family, we fought for freedom.
02:21We must give the next generation and the generation after that
02:26the same benefits of our democracy that we have had.
02:31So on behalf of my father, of my kids, my future grandkids,
02:38of all of our kids, of all of our future grandkids,
02:43I respectfully ask for an aye vote on ACA 8.
02:45Thank you so much.
