00:00Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'm going to take you up on this unique offer to talk about political parties.
00:05It's not something I like to do, but some of these comments like, quote-unquote,
00:10dropping to the knees of the president, what does that mean? I take offense to that.
00:15My grandpa used to say when something miraculous happened, not bad for swirling gases.
00:21What he was doing was mocking evolution. Papyr wasn't an overly religious man.
00:27He loved God, and he loved our nation, especially as he defended it in the military for an entire career.
00:34He was a man that believed in a higher power. He believed there were no coincidences.
00:40These miracles were divine. Despite thousands and thousands of years of authoritarian governments, kings, dictators,
00:48it wasn't swirling gases that created our form of government,
00:52and our founders said as much when they declared us an independent nation.
00:57The Declaration of Our Independence proclaims the people are endowed by their creator,
01:01and our inalienable rights, which are not granted by the government,
01:07they are inherently bestowed upon us.
01:10I believe, as the founders did, in divine providence.
01:14Meaning that I firmly believe any internal threats to our democracy,
01:19whether from the national level or right here in the chambers of the California State Assembly,
01:24that we will be okay, the divine providence will secure inalienable rights to self-determination.
01:31And despite attempts by this body, or attempts by the governor,
01:35from the moment he went unchallenged by members on this floor,
01:40when he exerted so much power with no democratic input,
01:43what did you do?
01:45Mentioned me sitting by idly, you sat idly by.
01:48And he chose to close schools, he closed businesses,
01:52and at least partially responsible for the pain and suffering you see in our streets,
01:58and we continue to see to this day.
02:01And guess what?
02:02To address my colleague from Los Angeles about Republicans in this body that sat idly by,
02:08I take great offense to that kind of stuff.
02:11Mr. Speaker, when someone talks about what Republicans here have and haven't done,
02:16please, Democrats have been in charge of this state for my entire natural life.
02:23I know as individual legislators, some of you have tried.
02:28But you're going to talk about sitting idly by, as they say on X, LOL.
02:35Democrats, maybe not as individuals, but as a ruling dictator party of this state,
02:41for my entire life are sitting idly by and have effectively done nothing that has resulted
02:48in a better education for our children,
02:51has done nothing to effectively address the people laying in our street just blocks from this building.
02:58These things have gotten worse, especially since Democrats have taken full control
03:03of every lever of our government right here in California.
03:08I believe in democracy. Why?
03:10Because it's rooted in our fundamental, inalienable right to be free,
03:14and you cannot take that away, and neither can Gavin Newsom.
03:18What this body is likely to do in a few minutes highlights the flaws of man.
03:22Many of you will vote not to turn the other cheek.
03:24You will vote under your own admission to fight back, to punch back, to fight fire with fire.
03:29I believe at the end of the day, despite your best efforts to participate
03:33and attempt to erode democracy, we will be fine.
03:37When history looks back, California will not succeed in its mutual goal
03:42of joining with entrenched partisan Democrats throughout our nation
03:46to throw out democracy in its fight for fire with fire,
03:51because it cannot override the fundamental protections our founding documents guarantee us.
03:56History will not look proudly on this moment.
03:59It will look highly on potential changes to any map in this state.
04:05It's going to be frowned upon.
04:07And it certainly won't look highly on the partisan, gerrymandered maps here in California.
04:13And those are the words from one of the co-authors in committee of this measure.
04:17I don't ever want to be lectured ever again by a Democrat anywhere that their party is the party of democracy.
04:2630 seconds.
04:27Because what you're doing, even by amending this proposal this morning,
04:31without any input, is showing you are no better.
04:34Democracy is flawed.
04:36Mankind is flawed.
04:37The measure is flawed.
04:38And you know it.
04:39How many people in this body testified by Texas?
04:42The public got to know that you struck out the language this morning.
04:47I didn't even know it until I walked in the building to even talk about Texas.
04:50No matter what Texas does, if they do nothing, you are asking the people to erode their rights.
04:57Thank you, Assemblymember Patterson.
04:58So don't lecture me.
04:58I ask for a no vote.
