00:00Let's talk about the Miami Hurricanes, because we're talking about Mario Cristobal.
00:05The expectation was there with Cam Ward and that offense.
00:08They lit up defenses, had to outscore teams.
00:12They were on the outside looking in.
00:13They lost a matchup to Syracuse and Georgia Tech down the stretch before the ball lost to Iowa State.
00:19Now it's Carson Beck's team.
00:21Can Carson Beck duplicate the type of productivity that we saw with Cam Ward and the Hurricanes offense last season?
00:28He can't do it like Cam Ward did it.
00:31Last year, their defense didn't show up for a lot of football games.
00:34Cam Ward found ways to win, win his own talent, in his own abilities, whether it was scrambling, moving around, making incredible plays.
00:42I don't think that's what you're going to see.
00:43Carson Beck, to me, he's got to manage the football team.
00:46He's not a great runner, but he is a very, very good quarterback, and he knows how to be a quarterback.
00:52But the key to Miami is getting that defense straightened out.
00:55Play great defense.
00:56They can't go out there and do what they did last year, catch up, catch up, and catch up.
01:00I thought they had a disappointing year last year with the team that they had.
01:04The number of NFL players, I want to say eight, were drafted into the NFL.
01:08With that type of players led by the number one draft choice, Cam Ward, I thought it was a disappointing year by the time it all got over not making the playoffs.
01:17This year, I think the talent level is there again.
01:20They put their money in NILs.
01:21They brought in great players, and now you've got a quarterback that's going to be a good manager of our football team.
01:27He doesn't have a long resume, but he had a pretty good one, and he's a proven under pressure quarterback that knows how to play in big games.
01:35So I think they've got a different type of quarterback, but I think they've got one.
01:38If they've built the rest of their team solid and their defense a little more solid, then we can see him leading them to a chance to compete with Clemson for the conference championship.
01:48I totally agree.
01:49Now, you're right about Carson Beck, and I'll bring up a couple of factors.
01:53You look at Miami.
01:53They won nine FBS games by an average margin of victory of 22.8 points per game.
02:00They had the number one ranked third-down offense, converting 56% of their third-down opportunities.
02:07But a part of that was because of Cam Ward, because of his elusiveness, because of his ability to keep his eyes down the field and make plays.
02:17Carson Beck is not as mobile as Cam Ward, and that's going to be a cause of concern for this offense moving forward.
02:23I will say this, the two losses that mattered for Miami last year, Coach, they gave up 64% to Georgia Tech on third downs for their defense
02:33and gave up 70% to the Syracuse offense in that loss on the road.
02:38That needs to get better if they're going to challenge for a college football playoff.
02:42Another team, Coach, that I'm high on that potentially can over-exceed expectations is Pittsburgh and Eli Holston.
02:49This team last year was 7-0.
02:52They did limp after the loss to SMU.
02:55They lost six straight games by an average margin of defeat of 12.2 points per game.
03:00But from an offensive perspective, they could get over their win total this year and potentially challenge for an ACC championship.
