00:00A major cannabis operation had been shut down in Cardiff after police discovered over 600 plants growing just metres from a children's nursery.
00:08The discovery was made on Sunday the 18th of August at the Seawall Court Industrial Estate,
00:13following reports from members of the public about a strong smell coming from one of the industrial units.
00:20Officers from the local Roath Neighbourhood Policing Team obtained a search warrant and entered the property,
00:25where they found 604 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of up to £260,000.
00:34The site has now been dismantled and all the plants seized.
00:38Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the discovery.
00:42As legal proceedings are ongoing, further details about the case cannot be reported at this time.
00:47Sergeant Bledon-Jones, who leads the Roath Neighbourhood Policing Team,
00:50said the operation was a direct result of information shared by the public.
00:55He emphasised that every community across South Wales now has a named, contactable officer
00:59and urged people to report any concerns they have so that they can be properly investigated.
01:06The location of the growth site, which was just yards from a nursery, has caused alarm among local residents.
01:13While no immediate threat to the public has been reported,
01:15police say cannabis factories can pose significant safety risks,
01:20including fire hazards from illegal electrical setups.
01:24The raid forms part of South Wales Police's wider, Safer Summer campaign,
01:29which is highlighting the work of neighbourhood policing teams across the region.
01:35Officers say their focus remains on visibility, community reassurance
01:39and acting swiftly on local intelligence to keep residents safe.
