A few showers to start the day across Shetland and the far northeast of Scotland. Cloudy for the Central Belt and southern Scotland, with some patches of clouds too for Northern Ireland and eastern parts of England but a fine start for most of England and Wales. A brisk wind making things feel rather cool, particularly near to the North Sea coast. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 21/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning, which is rather chilly for some.
00:05We've seen some clearer skies overnight, allowing temperatures to dip into single figures, high pressure extending from the north.
00:13It's a longshore breeze, so along this eastern side here, a bit cooler along the coast inland.
00:18We'll see a light breeze and yet again into Friday, some fine weather coming through.
00:24By this point, we've lost that breeze just coming along the eastern side, so warmer here and warmer still across many parts into Saturday.
00:32But watch out for one or two showers, particularly across more northern and western areas.
00:37All in all, though, the weather remains settled into Sunday, again with some sunshine.
00:42This morning then, that brisk breeze delivering one or two light showers to Shetland, the far northeast of Scotland inland.
00:48A fine day with some sunshine, more cloud though for the central belt of Scotland as well as southern areas.
00:53Northern Ireland, a mix of sun as well as some cloud and some fine weather to start the day across the bulk of England and Wales.
01:01Although a little more cloud along this eastern side and again, the odd fleeting shower can't be ruled out.
01:07So through the morning, we watch as this brisk wind keeps temperatures on the cool side as we head through the morning into the afternoon.
01:14Inland, helped with some sunshine, it's going to be a fine day.
01:17And even where the cloud is thick and fairly stubborn, say southern parts of Scotland, the far northwest of England, it should overturn and break up at times.
01:26Brighter breaks also for Northern Ireland, or most places then, will be dry through the afternoon.
01:32Here are your temperatures along this east coast, probably around 16, 17 degrees Celsius inland.
01:38We'll see a 22, a 21 for Northern Ireland.
01:40And the central belt of Scotland, if you see any brighter weather, coming in around 19 degrees Celsius.
01:46So that's the picture through this afternoon.
01:48This evening's fairly pleasant outside, again, with some late sunshine.
01:53Through the night, though, you can see more clouds across the far north.
01:55They're just slowly drifting in across northern Scotland.
01:59Again, a similar situation across the far north and the west of the country.
02:03And that cloud could just slide across the more western areas as we head through Friday.
02:07By this point, that strong wind is just reserved for the North Sea, so a better day to come along the east coast.
02:13Again, we're chasing clouds a little bit.
02:16One or two light showers through the afternoon.
02:18Most places will be dry with a mix of cloud and some brighter breaks, if not some sunshine.
02:24Temperatures then coming in around 19 to 24 degrees Celsius.
02:28That's the picture on Friday.
02:30Here's your outlook through Saturday.
02:32Now, Saturday, watch out for some afternoon showers towards the west.
02:35Most places elsewhere will be dry, though, and we will see some sunshine coming through,
02:42although the cloud will break at times further west, where we could see those showers.
02:46Temperatures on the up, 20 to 24 degrees Celsius.
