00:00Good afternoon. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Storm Floris is
00:05on its way with amber wind warnings issued this morning, particularly across parts of
00:10Scotland where we could see some unseasonably strong wind gusts. It's situated out towards
00:14the west of the UK at the moment. It undergoes explosive cyclogenesis through Sunday evening,
00:20rapidly deepening, causing those very strong winds across parts of Scotland throughout
00:24Monday morning and into the afternoon. An area of high pressure then develops out towards
00:28the west of the UK, settling everything down towards the middle part of the week, but it
00:32will still remain rather windy. So let's take a closer look at those wind gusts. The winds
00:37will intensify as we go through Monday morning. Across the northern half of the country, we
00:41could widely see gusts of 50 to 60 miles an hour inland, potentially up to 70 miles an hour
00:46at the coast. But it's across western and northern parts of Scotland that we could see those wind
00:51gusts intensifying further, potentially 85 miles an hour, maybe even a little higher through
00:56Monday afternoon and evening. As it's a bank holiday in Scotland, that could cause some
01:00impacts. Lots of people out on their holidays, lots of people camping, so there could be some
01:05disruption and potentially some travel disruption too. And with trees in full leaf, that could
01:09lead to some localised flooding in places as the drains become blocked with those leaves.
01:15Taking a look back though through the rest of Sunday evening, any rain that we've seen
01:19through Sunday morning across southern areas eventually sinks its way south and eastwards.
01:23Still remaining a little cloudy across southern parts of England. But elsewhere, a pleasant
01:27end to the day on Sunday. Plenty of sunny spells on offer across parts of Wales, northern England,
01:31Northern Ireland and much of Scotland too, although one or two isolated showers across the very
01:35far northwest of Scotland. So very much the calm before the storm through the rest of this
01:40afternoon. It'll feel pleasantly warm in that sunshine too. We could reach into the mid-20s
01:45across parts of northern England, 24 or 25 degrees here. Potentially feeling a little more
01:50humid across the very far south and east if you are stuck underneath that cloud and rain.
01:56So then looking ahead to Sunday evening, the rain across the southeast eventually clears away
02:01offshore, leaving clear skies for much of the country through the first part of the evening.
02:05But it's all eyes out towards the northwest as we see storm florist arriving, bringing some really
02:10quite heavy rainfall across parts of Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland as it sweeps in
02:15through the early hours of Monday morning. It will stay a little bit drier across parts of Wales and
02:19southern England, but still rather cloudy for much of the country. And quite a mild night too,
02:24temperatures quite widely staying in the mid or low teens for most of us and perhaps feeling a little
02:29more humid too. So a very damp start across Northern Ireland and much of Scotland and quite a windy
02:35start too. Those winds will continue to intensify through the morning period, particularly across the
02:40northern half of the country, although it will still be breezy across the south too. But it's as we go through
02:43Monday morning that those winds really start to peak across western and northern parts of Scotland,
02:49with those gusts up to 85 miles an hour, potentially even a little higher.
02:53That weather front continues to sink its way south and eastwards across much of the country,
02:57so potentially seeing some sunny spells developing across parts of Northern Ireland, Wales, northern
03:02parts of England too. But despite that sunshine, definitely feeling a little bit cooler than it
03:06will do today across much of the country. Despite temperatures reaching similar values, 23 or 24 degrees
03:11across the south with that strong northwesterly wind, particularly across much of Scotland
03:16and northern England and Northern Ireland, it will definitely be feeling quite a bit cooler.
03:20Those strong winds then do continue through Monday night and into the start of Tuesday.
03:26They will gradually start to ease as we go into Tuesday morning, but there could still be some
03:30impacts from those strong winds throughout Monday night and into the start of Tuesday. Further south,
03:34we'll see those winds quite readily easing through Monday night and into the start of Tuesday. But we could still see
03:40some strong winds in places. So I'm going to be turning a little bit drier through Tuesday and Wednesday.
