00:00Hello, yes, welcome to your latest London Transport Roundup.
00:05Transport for London lost an estimated £84 million in revenue during last year due to the 60-plus Oyster card,
00:14according to new figures released through a Freedom of Information request.
00:20The photo card gives Londoners aged 60 and over free travel on TfL services covering buses, the Tube and most national rail routes in the capital,
00:33except during weekday peak hours in the morning between 4.30 and 9.00 a.m.
00:40Now, campaigners for integration fairness argue the concession should be scrapped, pointing to the cost.
00:47However, organisations representing older people say the pass is vital, describing it as a lifeline that helps prevent loneliness and social isolation.
01:00Now, the lost revenue is calculated as the revenue TfL would get if all journeys had been charged at full adult fares.
01:09The 23 to 24 figures represented a significant increase on the two previous financial years,
01:17in which £71 million and £51 million was estimated to have been lost.
01:23The Freedom of Information request also revealed there were just under 400,000 active 60-plus Oyster photo card holders.
01:30In other news, Transport for London has said it will roll out a new and improved app next year for hiring Santander Cycles.
01:41This follows complaints from users about the app, including that it logs customers out every time they open it,
01:49does not store payment details either, and routinely crashes.
01:53More than half of total hires of bicycles are done using the application.
02:00An IT issue due to a software update earlier on this month also led cyclists being unable to hire bikes completely through the app
02:11and docking stations as well, leaving more than 12,000 bikes out of use in the capital.
02:17And Transport for London is also facing calls to reconsider removing the electric vehicle exemption to the congestion charge.
02:29Ellie Baker, Labour's City Hall spokesman for Transport, has now said that this would be counterproductive
02:37and create barriers for Londoners to move away from petrol and diesel.
02:43The 100% cleaner vehicle discount is scheduled to end on the 25th of December
02:50and will be replaced by a 25% discount for electric cars and a 50% reduction for larger electric vehicles as well.
