00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houston Betts and it's another great week here in Manchester.
00:05This is your transport video for the week. It's got all the news that you could possibly need.
00:09There's lots to get into, so let's dive straight in.
00:12And we're going to start with a change to the Metrolink because it's just got easier to pay for entry onto the Metrolink with Apple products.
00:19Express mode of payment has arrived, which means that people now don't need to wake or unlock their phone or watch when tapping to pay.
00:25It makes it quicker, easier and more convenient and it's part of a push to make the Metrolink really central to life here in Manchester,
00:32with changes to the payment methods earlier this year already cutting down on delays.
00:36Sticking with the Metrolink though, our work is set to start on six new tram lines here in Greater Manchester.
00:42The government approved extensions just a few months ago and the speed with which Transport Greater Manchester have jumped on it
00:48clearly shows how important the extensions are viewed by themselves and Andy Burnham.
00:52Candidates are now being selected to lead the products with preparatory work expected to kick off in 2026,
00:58with three lines starting earlier and the other three starting in around the summer.
01:01There are very exciting changes coming up with a stock port to the airline connection.
01:05An airport, Western Lake 2 will serve another section of the region.
01:09Ultringham are set to have a new line directed towards the airport too,
01:12with the three other lines seeing Salford Quays connected to Salford Crescent,
01:15the city centre connected to Salford Crescent as well and also a new line to Wigan via Atherton.
01:20This will be the first time in Metrolink history that tram lines run to every borough of Greater Manchester
01:25and it really is great to see.
01:27Finally, National Express are boosting their capacity this weekend to ensure that fuss caused by the RMT Union
01:33strikes minimally impacts travellers over the bank holiday.
01:36So make sure to bug your journeys in advance this weekend because you might very well get caught out.
01:40But that's all for now. Thank you very much for watching Manchester World and we'll see you again soon.
