Monmouth commemorates VJ Day
Transcript
00:00It's an incredibly proud day for me to represent and commemorate the 80th year of VJ,
00:07often called the Forgotten World, and to also remember those who lost their lives and fought
00:13for a better world. When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.
00:30A plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build.
00:41We always received the same level of recognition or commemoration as the war in Europe.
00:49Significant battles included Pearl Harbor, Midway, Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
00:57Tens of thousands of British, Indian, Commonwealth and Allied troops were lost,
01:04and over 150,000 were taken as prisoners of war in unimaginable conditions.
01:12But despite the magnitude of the war in the Far East,
01:16many feel that their contribution has been forgotten or overlooked.
01:48Today, we will not forget.
