00:00times around here for you in
00:01the Bears we appreciate you so
00:02much and here's a couple of
00:04pins to give a tribute to Miss
00:07Virginia McCaskey thank you so
00:10much pins that we have so
00:12hopefully you can figure out
00:13how to wear these at some point
00:14down here thank you for
00:15everything you all do thank you
00:16thank you so much great to see
00:18you it is a catch and a first
00:21down after all first and ten for
00:23the Bears at the eleven
00:30it seemed pretty clear I'm not
00:31exactly sure why that needed to
00:34be with you that just seemed
00:39getting the cobwebs out for all
00:41of us but it's preseason for all
00:43of us there is looking for a
00:48third touchdown in this first
00:50half from just outside the ten
00:54with Ian Wheeler into the game
00:55and running back he takes the
00:56fake and the Flats goes Steven
00:58Carlson Beijing goes to the end
01:00zone and finds the man in the
01:02corner here it is to Tyler Scott
01:05for a touchdown third year man
01:12out of Cincinnati Beijing finds
01:14him and it's 20 to nothing in
01:15Chicago
01:28Beijing six out of seven with this
01:46touchdown so again get used to
01:53under center hard play action boot
01:56from this side Tyler Scott watch
01:58him just continue to stay on the
02:00move trying to get the ball there
02:01into the flag to Carlson the tight
02:04end but it's just the ability to
02:05continue to run through coverage
02:07anytime you're in zone coverage
02:09Joe and the timings not there there's
02:11windows throughout the different
02:13stages of the field so if you don't
02:14get the ball on one side of the
02:16defender they call that the first
02:17window just continue to stay in
02:19phase even with your quarterback as
02:21he rolls you eventually will outrun that
02:24zone defender that's the second
02:26window and that's exactly what
02:28Beijing puts the ball and that's
02:30just that is a hallmark staple you
02:32saw it on the Scott long 30 plus
02:33yarder early in the possession we
02:36were talking to Kevin Warren those
02:37are the easy completions that are
02:39built into this offense that just
02:41take tremendous pressure off both the
02:43quarterback and the offensive line
02:45out of the division two Shepard
02:47University in his third season
02:49reset the record books there at the
02:51division two level and that guy
02:53can play should all to bring this
02:58one back from inside the five the
03:05regular season kicks off on Fox on
03:08September 7th the Giants take on
03:09the reigning offensive rookie of
03:11the year Jaden Daniels and the
03:13commanders or other regional action
03:15the NFL's back September 7th on
03:18Fox kickoff weekend is presented by
03:20YouTube TV will be in Seattle 49ers
03:24and Seahawks year two going for
03:29Mike McDonald there there's a take
03:36on Minnesota there was a take on
03:38Baltimore rematch of the division
03:40and a run-around thriller
03:47Bills takeover at the 30 we've
03:50talked mostly about the Bears so
03:52far this Bills team kind of take
03:54for granted this is steady always
03:56right there at the top of the
03:57division Sean McDermott and his
03:59ninth year and has bucked a trend
04:02in that there haven't been too many
04:04successful defensive coordinators
04:06making the transition to head
04:08coach how about this he's won 65
04:11percent of his game since he took
04:12over in 2017 the other defensive
04:15coordinators that have become head
04:16coaches in that same time have won
04:18about 40 percent and he's
04:20definitely bucked a trend you see
04:21why the NFL tends to go
04:23offensive minded you look here in
04:25Chicago but Josh Allen or not the
04:28job that Sean McDermott has done here
04:30along with Brandon being in the
04:31front office the team they have
04:33built and where they've taken this
04:34the Bills team from when they got
04:36here to now one of the top three or
04:39four teams every single year and you
04:41know we came on to the show you
04:43asked me how do they get over the
04:44hump of playing against the Kansas
04:46City Chiefs and we've seen this
04:49before across different sports
04:50where you can be a historically
04:52great team you just happen to live
04:54in an era of one of the greatest
04:56players of all time and one of the
04:57greatest dynasties that is the
04:59Chiefs so I don't think you can take
05:00anything away from what the Bills have
05:01done when you talk to Sean McDermott
05:04there is no question that eats at
05:05them every offseason and they're
05:08looking to take that next step
05:12third down and five trying to keep
05:13this drive going but it's ended
05:16loudly Austin Booker was the star
05:19of the first preseason game with
05:21three sacks in one half of play
05:24he's in the books in the first
05:25half here this is so good just a
05:28little T.E.
05:29Andrew Billings 97 he's the
05:31tackle he sets it and then you'll
05:33see Austin Booker number ninety
05:34four he comes and wraps inside
05:36that little pick stunt every team
05:40in the league works on him it's
05:41such a hard thing for offensive
05:42linemen especially reserve backup
05:44linemen to pass those games off
05:47almost blocked
05:50C.
05:54Frazier coming off of the edge
05:56there just nearly missed it
05:57three scouts and it drops at the
06:01fifteen yard line Jimmy Charlo with
06:05the tackle on special teams and a
06:06near miss right here for Frazier
06:08under so what they teach the guys
06:13if they feel like that wing over
06:14sets the protection you can take
06:16off what your holdup is which
06:18means trying to hold that bills
06:20defender from running down the
06:21field in coverage if you feel you
06:22have it you always can take that
06:24counter to the block point it's a
06:26little bit of a feel when to go
06:29for the block and when to just
06:30play hold up and set up a return
06:34bears go back on offense from
06:35their own sixteen yard block
06:37start to drive with a run to Ian
06:47Wheeler it's about five and boy if
06:51you you know you mentioned that
06:52that sticks in their mind and they
06:54know they got to answer questions
06:55about it if you want proof for what
06:58they're trying to do what they're
06:59trying to conquer look at the way
07:00they handled the draft each of the
07:02first four picks five of the first
07:03six picks on the defensive side
07:06that's the one thing the one hurdle
07:08they're trying to clear can they
07:10stop the homes and make that final
07:12step and you see Brandon being
07:15longtime general manager of the
07:16bills
07:19into the flats they go Burden
07:20having a big game makes a move
07:22and crosses the 40
07:2622 for Burden yeah so here's what
07:29the really good teams when you have
07:30a really good generational
07:31quarterback like Josh Allen at some
07:34point you have to flip the switch
07:35and say okay while our offense is
07:37rolling wire while our offense is
07:39as good one of the top couple in
07:40the league scoring 30 a game now is
07:42the time for the youth movement so
07:44they invest heavily five of the six
07:46draft picks three at the defensive
07:48back position and the idea is we're
07:50so good on offense we can weather
07:52what that youth movement looks like
07:54it's very similar to a couple of
07:56years ago with the Kansas City
07:57Chiefs did they ended up winning
07:59the Super Bowl halfway through that
08:01season people had questions could
08:03this young Chiefs off defense keep
08:05up well they had Mahomes they had
08:07Andy Reid it's a very similar
08:09situation here in Buffalo there'll
08:11be some growing pains some of these
08:13young players will take their licks
08:14but as the year goes on if those
08:17guys continue to elevate and they're
08:18young and they're cheap all of a
08:20sudden now the defense becomes the
08:22strength again and you oh yeah you
08:24happen to have an MVP quarterback
08:25that's the long-term vision I love the
08:27move by being in McDermott obviously
08:29now for the Chiefs they want a Super
08:31Bowl now we'll see what the end
08:32result is for the Buffalo Bills
08:34kind of the long-term seesaw exactly
08:37right
08:3910 back to the ground here and
08:41Wheeler the right side to five and
08:45then the last piece of the puzzle you
08:47start seeing these contracts that
08:49are being given out of course to the
08:50300 million plus contracts that are
08:52given to Josh Allen and the three
08:54big defensive contracts to Greg
08:55Russo and Bernard and all these guys
08:57and there's only so much money to go
08:59around so the more young talent you
09:02have playing for four plus years on
09:04rookie contracts that allows you to
09:06pay your veterans but you can't pay
09:08everyone veteran contracts so it's
09:11all part of the game that is the
09:12salary cap and managing a team and
09:14anytime your quarterback gets paid
09:16what Josh Allen does it's a little
09:17bit of an effect on the rest of the
09:18roster
09:19Bajin over the middle perfect throw
09:24Samori Touré gets involved 24 yards
09:27for Touré
09:28I am impressed with Tyson Bajin I
09:32mean just the ball coming out on time
09:34it's got pressure in his face not
09:37exactly sure Maurice Alexander and
09:40Touré were kind of in the same spot I'm
09:41not exactly sure where the ball was
09:44going but usually that doesn't end
09:46well yeah usually usually you get two
09:47guys in the same spot multiple times
09:50now this time it's Tashim Johnson
09:52number 33 great job there and past
09:54break let's pick up back in the hands
09:58of Wheeler and a couple men miss and
10:01got a few talking about the contracts
10:05that they handed out that's the whole
10:06goal right in a perfect world you
10:08draft a guy you develop and then you
10:10keep him you like him enough to sign
10:11him long-term they've done that time
10:13and again under Brandon Bean this
10:15offseason did it again the obvious
10:17one was Josh Allen but Russo, Benford,
10:20Bernard on the defensive side and then
10:23just this week James Cleary
10:24all that money up and that's 600
10:30million there's not unlimited money
10:33there's not monopoly here you got it
10:34you got to make some cuts where you
10:35can and that's when you go young in
10:37the draft
10:37the first down run for Wheeler
10:41seen two nice carries from Wheeler
10:51nice job in pass protection a couple
10:52plays ago they just love the
10:54opportunities that come with these
10:56preseason games and you hear the old
10:57mantra the games don't count but they
11:00matter there are a lot of NFL careers
11:02especially as this game gets into the
11:04second half of guys that you might not
11:06be used to seeing weekly when the
11:08regular season comes but there's
11:10roster spots at play both here and
11:12across the NFL playing out right now
11:14page it
11:15and again in rhythm delivers another
11:18strike this one to Miles Boykin and he's
11:20spreading the ball around that is a new
11:23bear receiver coming over from
11:24Seattle he's got a first down simple
11:28curl route but it's the it's the
11:29accuracy and the timing watch his head
11:32comes around and the ball's on him he
11:34doesn't have to sit he doesn't wait
11:35for those windows to close and one of
11:38the things about this Bills defense and
11:39I understand there's some backups and
11:40this isn't traditionally the starters
11:42we'll see come week one but their
11:44inability to defend the pass is a big
11:48area of emphasis for them going into
11:49this season
11:50here's the game to get the ball is in
11:51this season
11:52wheeler inside the five got pulled
11:55down by Zion Lowe
11:58when you score 30 points a game you
12:01better be able to defend this right
12:02yeah so often we look at defense just
12:04in like a little isolated bubble you
12:07want to be really good defending the
12:08run you better not be losing every
12:11game because teams are gonna run the
12:12ball down your throat you want you
12:13better be good defending the pass if
12:15your offense is Josh Allen he's the
12:17MVP and you score 30 because
12:19you're going to get everybody's
12:20best shot in the passing game to
12:21score points on the second goal
12:24back in the hands of Wheeler
12:25lowers the shoulder keeps the
12:28feet turning gets a boost from
12:30the offensive line but a little
12:31bit short and the second year
12:34man out of Howard who missed his
12:35entire rookie season with a torn
12:37ACL keeps those legs chugging and
12:40making a good impression on this
12:41drive this to bring us to the
12:45two minute warning the Bears are
12:46right there again an offensive
12:48explosion in this first half
12:50seven new head coaches across the
13:01NFL this year and Ben Johnson here
13:04in Chicago who has the best first
13:06season out of these guys that's a
13:09great question I had to put I'll
13:12tell you I think the Cowboys and
13:14Brian Schottenheimer I think there's
13:16a lot of wins there I think that
13:17season last year got out of whack
13:18anytime you lose your quarterback and
13:20Micah Parsons and everyone that
13:22they lost due to injury
13:23Wheeler Jordan Hancock stops him in
13:28the backfield there third and goal
13:29you know I think the Bears are
13:31promising to take a timeout here by
13:33Buffalo trying to steal another two
13:35minute drive before the half timeout
13:38Buffalo 30 seconds please set the
13:41game clock to 154 154 please you know I
13:44think that the biggest hurdle I think
13:46it's possible I think it's possible
13:48that the Bears have significant growth
13:50and improvement here and it might not
13:52be so significant in the win-loss record
13:55and a lot of the reason for that is the
13:57NFC North is really competitive three
13:59playoff teams just a year ago so that's
14:02six games plus you play a tough cross
14:04division rivalry a division cross
14:06conference so I think judging wins and
14:09losses improvement I do think they they
14:11win more than they did last year it's
14:13just the schedule is going to be very
14:15challenging well they try him again
14:18off the right side and Ian Wheeler's in
14:21Howard's own HU you know a touchdown for
14:26the Bears
14:27Luther Burden he'd do it again listen I
14:34don't want to keep beating a dead horse
14:35here I know he's just he's run
14:37blocking and it's not but you can see
14:39these guys they saw right they're giving
14:41them high fives wait till you see we're
14:43going to show the reply to the kid
14:44wait till you see how physical he is as a
14:47wide receiver when he keeps blocking
14:48people you beat that horse there he's
14:50only blocked two gigs and they stop
14:51throwing you the ball that's the old
14:52tight end trick it's like don't don't
14:55the floor too well because they're going to
14:57ask exactly exactly yeah but but watch at
15:02the point of attack here watch him he's
15:06going to motion in watch how physical he is
15:09at the point of attack
15:10bang and now he just drives him he's three
15:15yards in the in the end zone the safety
15:17Hancock like I can't tell you you could
15:19catch he could have 200 yards tonight as a
15:22young rookie trying to earn the respect of
15:24his teammates and coaches his two goal
15:26line reps will go further for his
15:29credibility in the locker room than any
15:31catches any touchdown anything he does
15:33early in his career because the
15:35stereotypical high draft pick skill guy
15:38is not sticking his nose in there doing
15:41that yeah but to play in Ben Johnson's
15:42offense you think Amon Ross St. Brown and
15:45the guys that he had in Detroit they are
15:48physical they take great pride if you want
15:50to run this style where your edges are
15:53handled by your receivers the Sean
15:54McVay system and the O'Connell system
15:56Shanahan they're all from a similar
15:58pedigree if your wide receivers don't
16:01block it breaks down the integrity of
16:03the entire run game 28 nothing bears
16:08ahead here late in the first half
16:10Sean all it's been busy on returns to the
16:1433 he goes all right he's earned a recap of
16:17his catches yeah I mean we'll give him credit
16:20here obviously he got drafted because he
16:22can do this let's let's make sure we're
16:24clear here that the blocking is just a
16:25bonus this was the third down option
16:28route on the previous possession you see
16:31him a little tempo off the line that's a
16:33nice veteran type feel there run after
16:35a catch Ryan Poles told us he probably
16:40didn't get mad at us for this but I
16:41don't care he said he thinks when it's
16:43all said and done he could be better he
16:46said he's kind of DJ more and he's kind
16:48of Roma dunze but he thinks combined
16:50over time he could end up being even
16:52better which is pretty incredible for
16:54two first round picks in their own
16:56right number two girls trying to find
16:58the end zone trying to find something
17:00offensively and they got a long
17:01completion right here to Christian
17:03Wilkerson third year man of Southeast
17:06Missouri State gets 23 yards Terrell
17:09Smith he went down and you know we never
17:11speculate but he immediately went down at
17:15the top of that route he's competing one
17:18of the cornerback spots here for Chicago
17:21you see him here at the bottom of the
17:22screen result of the play is the first
17:25down watch when he stops at the top
17:27players inside two minutes it's a team
17:29just immediately goes down and
17:32you see his teammates obviously are
17:36concerned that's that left knee area
17:40that he's grabbing and again they've
17:42taken some injuries to this secondary
17:44they've added a couple new pieces over
17:47the last couple days and Smith is a guy
17:50they're taking a good long hard look at
17:52to provide them some depth in this bear
17:55secondary
17:55we'll take a break
18:00now they need the cart to get Terrell
18:10Smith off of the field
18:11a guy that like you touched on was
18:14getting an increased role because of
18:15other injuries they're already dealing
18:17with in the secondary leaves with what
18:18looks to be a significant injury
18:20remember Jalen Johnson the starting
18:24corner he's been out dealing with some
18:26injuries he suffered right before
18:28training camp some soft tissue stuff
18:29and then Tyreek Stephenson Nashawn
18:32Wright
18:32then of course Smith so
18:36we got some question marks there in the
18:38secondary health wise for this Bears
18:41defense
18:41with a minute 32 to go in this first
18:45half the Bills have it in Bears
18:46territory they doubled their total
18:48yardage for the game on that one
18:50completion quick throw Elijah Moore flag
18:54down
18:55they're gonna call this on Davidson the
19:03tight end number 84 but I blame the
19:08receiver certainly not well he didn't
19:12run where the play was designed to go
19:13and you put your guy in a bad spot and
19:15then they panic and
19:16offensive offense number 84 15 yard
19:22penalty at the previous spot replay
19:24first down so either way holding face
19:26mask he just he panics he reaches out
19:28to the guy because this little tunnel
19:30screen is supposed to cut in here
19:31you see clearly grabs him by the face
19:35and I understand Moore's trying to get
19:38out of bounds it's two minute drill but
19:40when you call those inside smoke
19:41screens you have to run inside your
19:43kickout blocks to make sure you set
19:45them up and we used to say you go
19:47outside man you're on your own we're
19:49we can't help you out there hey so
19:52like you said preseason games don't
19:54count but they matter if I'm a Bills
19:55fan am I bothered at all by what I'm
19:57watching here I'm not I think these
19:59two teams took very different
20:01approaches to the game we might have
20:04a rough roughing the passer here he
20:07kind of slammed him to the ground
20:09yeah they're gonna get Montez sweat
20:15yeah so back to your point I think
20:17both these teams took very different
20:19approaches we saw a lot of the Bills
20:21starters get the bulk of their work in
20:23the joint practice on Friday roughing
20:25the passer defense number 94 15 yard
20:28penalty at the previous spot automatic
20:31first down is actually Austin Booker so
20:35you know anytime you get into these
20:36games it's always hard to see through
20:38who's on the field now at this point
20:40it's probably pretty level as far as
20:43starters and reserves most of the
20:44starters for both teams have come out
20:46but early on you could tell the Bears
20:48took this game very serious almost all
20:50of their starters on both sides of the
20:52ball with the exception of a few the
20:54the Bills played very few starters if
20:57any so you wouldn't read too much into
21:00it but the individual evaluation is more
21:03important
21:03but if i'm a Bears fan yeah i'm feeling
21:07oh if i'm a Bears fan i'm taking
21:09everything that i can get first time i
21:10see caleb williams under center at home
21:13in soldier field in a ben johnson
21:15offense that i've been dreaming about for
21:16two years and he goes 93 yards for a
21:20touchdown 97 i mean yes i'm thrilled
21:23but again you got to do it against the
21:25starters you got to do it when it
21:27matters week one so of course you have
21:28to temper the expectations but
21:31everything we've everything they've
21:33heard about ben johnson's offense get
21:35the ball out on time open receivers run
21:37after catch this first half has been a
21:39clinic on all three of those points
21:41second and ten white to the sideline
21:44that's completion to kj hamler actually
21:47going to say he's out of bounds so
21:48incomplete you mentioned the wide open
21:51receivers for the Bears and yeah
21:52williams was impressive but more
21:54impressive to me has been the scheme
21:56and it had mattered who the receiver
21:57or the quarterback is guys are running
21:59free listen this is a hard game and we
22:02talked early on about what a really
22:03quality good offensive minded head
22:05coach can do and besides leadership and
22:08quarterback development let's make no
22:10mistake about it the margin of error in
22:12the nfl is so small any schematic
22:14advantage you can give your players
22:15especially your young quarterback
22:18that's been ben johnson's mo since
22:20he's taken over play calling duties
22:22over the last five six years bills
22:25trying to convert third down for the
22:27first time and just out in front of
22:29tyrell shavers they're over five on
22:31third down in this first half had a
22:34step there on jeremiah walker but
22:35white missed it shavers the guy we
22:37said could could go down as kind of
22:39the surprise of the preseason gets a
22:41great release
22:44again we're nitpicking young players
22:47it's so hard to resist but when your
22:48eyes go back they shouldn't go back to
22:51the quarterback they need to go up you
22:53don't ever want to see the quarterback
22:55throw that deep ball you want to catch
22:57it mid-flight because what it does when
22:58you look back is you slow down just
23:00enough and that's the difference
23:01between a ball hit me in stride for a
23:03touchdown now fourth down punt
23:06robbins has gotten way too much work
23:09for the bills liking in this game he's
23:11out there to punt it again
23:13jp richardson
23:16watches it bounce into the end zone
23:19it's over the minute four the bears
23:20will have it again let's see if they
23:22work on a little two-minute offense
23:24here with a one-minute offense
23:29stay with us we got guys right here
23:31for halftime
23:34gert mana fee julian edelman
23:42we got some special guests lined up
23:44for the second half as well taylor
23:46swift yes so make sure you tune in
23:49doji now it's gonna be fun we got
23:50we got brandon bean
23:53he's going to come spend some time with
23:55us polls the gm here in chicago we're
23:58going to get a chance to talk to both
23:59of them as they continue to
24:01construct these rosters so i'll go
24:03anywhere wouldn't that be something
24:05taylor should have showed up on a
24:06bears goes preseason
24:09she said almost she loves football
24:11prove it come on help us out
24:14yeah prove it exactly you want to know
24:15how much you love football go live and
24:18die with every preseason snap
24:20please let the game come up to 59
24:23timeout taken right there how about
24:26these bears possessions in this first
24:27half
24:31four out of five touchdowns three in a
24:34row since bajin took over
24:35there's a team that's made two playoff trips
24:49the last 14 years haven't won a playoff
24:51game since you were catching a touchdown
24:53from jay cutler to open scoring against
24:55seattle this is a 2010 season
24:57we are excited again the score continues to get out of reach we have to pull up some of those clips
25:03going back into the glory gates
25:09deep drop pressure coming
25:11bajin able to escape he's got room to run
25:15and does step out of bounds around the marker at the 46
25:21tell you what i have been really impressed with bajin
25:25not only his timing not only playing within the confines of the system but
25:29the athleticism at the quarterback position seems like a prerequisite to play anymore if you're a statue in the pocket
25:35in today's day and age it's just so hard with these defenders and that's a great example there that
25:40play should have been dead sack and instead you got a fresh set of downs and stop the clock
25:47on this two-minute drive this is as good of a talk radio city as there is in the country
25:51what do we think boys we got a quarterback controversy in chicago
25:56short of the line to gain oh we'll make the adjustments okay expedited review
26:05should we start start a slow clap like they do at wimbledon
26:10yes i don't think they're going to measure it so i think they're just going to rule it short
26:13second and half a yard all right we're not going to slow clap
26:26so take a look he's
26:29steps out clear so it's where the ball is
26:33when he goes out of bounds that ball in his right hand they're going to say he's about a half yard short
26:4051 seconds one timeout
26:46bill showing pressure
26:48and bringing an extra man getting the bait at this time
26:51he's able to heave it away and avoid the sack as brandon codrington got home on the blitz
26:56and i think one thing we probably haven't talked enough about
27:00is last year they had the fourth fewest the chicago bears offense they had the fourth fewest explosive
27:06plays big plays you know over 20 yards in the league they had 82 they had 40 passes 82 total
27:13they had six already in the first half today they had 40 all of last season well that's that's what ben
27:21johnson specializes of course and a lot of it's run after catch no team runs no team had more yards
27:26after the catch than the detroit lions and from listening to you i know that there is no category that equates
27:32closer to winning than getting those big plays yeah the two biggest factors that every team is trying to win
27:38every single week timeout chicago their third and final 30 seconds is the turnover ratio and the
27:45explosive plays ratio how many do i generate how many do i give it is so hard to sustain possessions
27:52four or five yards at a time and go the length of the field and then win in the red zone every
27:56defense in the league is saying prevent explosive plays and win in the red zone and no matter how many
28:01yards i gave up i don't care that's how my points stay down so the the inverse of that on the
28:06offensive side of the ball is we need to score as fast as we can and in a few amount of plays as
28:11possible because every time you snap the ball it's in the defense's advantage
28:26i think they're going to get 65 luke newman offense number 65 10 yard penalty at the previous spot
28:49we'll replay the down i'll tell you this is tight yeah you can see he's kind of looking he's like i
28:54thought i'd let go again if we froze it he's going to have his hand on his jersey so yes but at this
29:02rate it's going to look like holding in full speed it's not quite as clear but that's tight
29:10that's tight wipes away a 20 yard run for bajin moves it back to the 37 with 31 seconds
29:17the bears out of timeouts
29:26more pressure hit as he throws the ball is out and live it's picked up by delaine carter
29:32the big man's rumbling for a touchdown but let's see look like that arm might have been coming forward
29:38carter saying please no don't take away my moment just let him celebrate anyway who cares it's the
29:43preseason let him celebrate pick up good let him flex he's got it screenshot that new profile on
29:50instagram nobody can take that but i'm fairly certain this is going to come back and i guess
29:55they'll just expedite this i was clearly trying to drop that ball off to the back
30:03it's one of those rookies and dion walker
30:05he's trying to squeeze it doesn't matter as long as that hand is coming forward in any capacity
30:27they're not going to judge intent
30:28but the big man still got himself a nice celebration he is tired though he's taking
30:36he's taking the next play off he's shaking his head saying i did all that for nothing for nothing
30:42no you got a screenshot he's got a new screenshot that's going to be his that's going to be up on
30:45social in 50 seconds after the game i might even check at halftime i don't know
30:51you guys go back huh way back man some of our best years our staff we had in carolina so many of the
31:04guys that i grew up in this game my first ever tight end coach here in chicago rob boris he's been
31:09the longtime tight end coach joined mcdermott staff in buffalo brandon bean was our assistant gm a huge
31:15part of our success those years going to the super bowl in carolina he's the gm obviously in
31:20buffalo bobby babich his dad's the long time former bears defensive coordinator spent some time
31:26with us so there's a lot of familiar faces down on that field in pregame
31:32we've now set the record for the longest i was just going to say can we go ahead and go
31:36i was just going to keep naming every coach that i know in the game and just fill
31:39underneath to midfield goes joel wilson fire up chips the central mission the title
31:58spikes it with 10 seconds
31:59should we see the celebration we have to let's see the big guy let's see what has he got for us
32:09he's been dreaming about this what's he got he panicked he did he panicked he didn't know if he
32:15wanted to point flex he wasn't sure he thought about yeah he wasn't sure that's okay that's okay
32:22it's pre-season for everything he's still still waiting to get back on right i love it good for
32:29him good for him we've all been there right we're about to dance and then we second guess it still
32:35too early in the night i went 14 years and never danced for a second what do you mean until you turn
32:4115 15 there's a sack for michael hoyt with a flag down and still time on the clock
32:56second quarter they will not end
33:11this is going to be interesting to see whether this is a penalty two fouls on the play both by the
33:26offense illegal formation number 75 as he was the in man on the line of scrimmage illegal shift as
33:34number 87 never reset prior to the snap both these penalties are declined the ball goes over first down
33:40right now factor in the loss that's what i was curious i was going to say if these are penalties
33:44that they can decline they'll take the lost yardage on the sack and they're going to send out
33:48their defense again it's 28 nothing in a pre-season game but nonetheless they're going to have a chance
33:53to attempt a 56 55 yard field goal and steal three points that's obviously not how chicago dreamed
34:01up that fourth down better gives the rookie out of ole miss cayden davis a chance to show what he's
34:06got he's kicking for tyler bass is still out with an injury he's got a chance here from
34:1056 yards to get the bills on the board
34:19see if davis has enough flag
34:23well that wasn't the question he was wide to the right had enough but missed
34:29and it's a 28 nothing first half for the bears thrilling their fans here at soldier field in
34:35pre-season game number two kirk menefee and julian adamant are here to break it all down
34:40and look ahead to the regular season coming up after this break
34:43now the bears would like the regular season to look even a little bit like first half did against
35:13the bills here 28 to nothing as we bring you out of halftime joe davis and greg olson and uh
35:18man oh man i'm a bears fan i'm saying that's it right there this is everything every bears fan has
35:23dreamed of since they got the news that day back in the off season that ben johnson was the new head
35:28football coach in chicago open receivers the ball coming out on time both quarterbacks obviously caleb
35:33williams got off to a fast start he turned the reins over to tyson baygent and he's picked up right where
35:38caleb left off it's been a really impressive performance by this bears team really on both
35:43sides of the ball a whistle before this kickoff becomes official that's kind of a fitting way for
35:53the second half to be yeah right where the first half ended totally disjointed
35:57first half numbers we knew the kickoff as the ball was kicked perfect how's that sound perfect 371
36:07for the bears it is 47 for the bills i think everyone said you know what this game needs we
36:14need to do the second half kickoff twice twice yeah i feel like we talked to kevin warren like three
36:22days ago and that was in the second quarter he did it was friday yeah and codrington will bring
36:28this one back for buffalo codrington got leveled and there's a fire there's daniel hardy making an
36:40impact on the special teams quite literally they're gonna get a hold here on the buffalo
36:43why they owens i think number 30 just tackled him
37:00during the return holding receiving team number 30 10-yard penalty it's first down well mike white
37:07handed the first half it's going to be mitch trubisky here for the second half and you're going to
37:12look at the hold here and you see it right here what he possibly was arguing on the sidewalk he was
37:19standing there for what he was arguing chris taber long time one of the top special teams
37:26coordinators in the league he's now here in buffalo
37:32i thought you said you'd run out of code he was the assistant special teams coach under dave tove
37:37who's the special teams coordinator long time one of the best in the history of the chiefs they were
37:41together here in chicago early in my career how about frank gore jr getting an opportunity right
37:47there getting a dozen
37:51we really like him i mean that's obviously a familiar familiar name if you followed nfl football at all
37:58his father frank gore i mean he is one of the most impressive guys i've ever played alongside he was my
38:04college teammate at miami and what he overcame the toughness the way he ran the career he had
38:11in san francisco frank gore jr he's got a lot of those same qualities trubisky's first throw goes
38:16right back to gore he's got a first down so his wife for the first half it's trubisky here taking
38:21over for the second half he was the backup last year trying to hold off mike white to repeat in that role
38:27of course the second pick of the draft here in chicago in 2017 he spent four years at the bears and
38:33when it ends it's like oh it was a failure but now given the hindsight with what's gone on since
38:39it was not that bad two playoff trips in four years absolutely i don't think it was bad by any stretch i
38:44think again when you leave it always seems a lot worse than it was i think you look back on it through
38:49the lens of how the quarterbacks who came after you how much success they have i think you view trubisky's
38:55time in chicago a little different another flag
39:05holding offense number 61 10-yard penalty first down feels like a good time to check in with pan
39:13hey there joe score might be lopsided but players are still fighting for jobs and being evaluated i'll
39:19tell you john mcgerman's evaluation of that first half he said we're not seeing some good
39:24fundamental football out there he was also a little upset that they're not doing anything
39:29at the line of scrimmage for the bears ben johnson positive as could be something that he preaches is
39:35good clean fundamental football he thought they got that he thought the defense rather did a very very
39:42good job in that first half he didn't have an injury update on counterbacks about smith but
39:47we'll keep an eye out
39:51christian wilkerson breaks free for a first down inside the 40.
39:57there's a flat there's a flag i'm curious if they call pass interference here zach davidson
40:02kind of got tangled up on the right side of the formation i wonder if they're gonna call opi
40:14i couldn't tell if they just got tangled up or if
40:17pass interference offense number 84 10-yard penalty it's first down yeah we're gonna take a look at this
40:24you can see he's pleading his case
40:30obviously the official determined that he was causing you can see him right here
40:35let's take a look
40:37so he's blocking
40:41oh that's bad oh that's really bad i mean he he's just blocking blocking blocking and then
40:46releasing downfield so you're not allowed to be engaged past you know a yard past the line of
40:51scrimmage at one angle it didn't look like he was
40:58tribus he goes to the outside right back to tyrell shavers here
41:03so here's how this place designed he's blocking the edge if this defender rushes
41:09he's blocking and then once he senses that that guy has him in coverage and he's not a threat to
41:13rush the passer he's just the late release guy to hold the flat defender so the initial
41:19context started at the line of scrimmage and obviously the officials saw him engaged
41:24more than a yard downfield and brings back a huge play
41:30run from first down around the 40 and bears territory to first and 30.
41:35on their own side
41:37trubisky has all day to throw over the coverage downfield is tight so he scrambles and gets chased
41:41by daniel hardy with that big hit on special teams
41:47now third down trubisky was saying that uh coming back here this week because they were here
41:51on friday for a joint practice we've got to be at the bears facility so it brings back a lot of good
41:55memories of his time in chicago there's only three players that are left so limited connecting with
42:01those guys but a lot of the behind the scenes personnel that he was close with he got to reconnect with
42:07the other side four years as a backup in the years since buffalo to pittsburgh back to buffalo last year
42:19the biscuit down his ninth year on third and long lost one last shavers
42:24incomplete but another flag here a mile walker the coverage
42:28pass interference defense number 23 spot foul automatic first down so flack flips it around
42:44the other way first down for buffalo i think he just panics a little bit he's in good coverage
42:51it's the two hands on the chest right there
42:53clear restriction i think if walker just turns his head and just finds the ball
43:00some of these young defensive backs they just panic with the ball in the air and their first
43:03instinct is to put is to clamp both their arms and you do that downfield and if restrict you're
43:10going to get it called every time toss to gore broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and got a couple
43:16set by ruben hippolyte a rookie out of maryland
43:18you know one of the other factors so much for these quarterbacks is an element of who else was
43:25drafted especially after you and of course the big name that really stands out they chicago takes
43:32trubisky early there at the two pick and then we all know who got taken later on in that first round and
43:38patrick mahomes and what that's done to the kansas city chief so unfair or fair
43:43the reality about quarterbacks it's you get compared to the guys around you bryce young and cj stroud
43:47are always going to be tied together caleb williams jaden daniels it's just the way it works
43:53and so much hinges on you that's been the case for as long as football has been played but especially
44:00in this era of the nfl a franchise's chance hinges on the quarterback that they pick and it does and
44:07it also is heavily determined by the environment in which that quarterback steps in right i can make
44:11an argument that the environment that patrick mahomes stepped in as a young player behind alex
44:16smith behind andy reed and that system is a pretty unique situation not that patrick mahomes wasn't
44:22going to be spectacular wherever he went but fit for the quarterback early in his career is such a
44:28critical component we spent so much time in the evaluation of the player and not so much the
44:33of the evaluation of the team a throw away on third and eight with pressure coming from jonathan owens from his
44:39cornerback spot in the safety spot
44:45took the offense stand on the field for this fourth and eighth play
44:51and again it's not so much is this the strategy that's going to carry over into the regular season for
44:56sean bernett joe brady hasn't probably talked enough about the job he's done the offensive coordinator
45:01for the buffalo bills but they want to practice these plays they want to get reps on these fourth
45:06and past he's got to have it moments these are good reps for a lot of these young players as they build
45:11out the depth of this roster on fourth down trubisky floating one for ray davis who never saw it coming
45:18the defenders under the flag and they're going to get a hold on the right tackle
