00:00New South Wales Police are treating last night's shooting that left one man dead and another man fighting for his life in hospital as potentially a targeted attack with links to organised crime, with the gunman responsible still on the loose.
00:17At about 6.40pm last night, two men aged 31 and 39 were having a drink at the Harold Hotel here in Glebe or Forest Lodge in Sydney's inner west when they were struck by a hail of bullets.
00:33As you can see behind us, forensic crews are still on the scene.
00:37And what we understand is that both men had left the venue and were walking up Wigram Road, close to where you can see that police rescue tent when they were struck by multiple bullets.
00:48We understand from witnesses that there were between 10 to 15 shots fired.
00:53Now, the 39-year-old man was struck multiple times.
00:56He tragically died at the scene.
00:59The 31-year-old man, however, was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital close by here in Sydney where he remains in a serious condition.
01:07And we've heard from New South Wales police, they believe that 31-year-old man may have links to organised crime.
01:13It's led investigators to believe this could have been a targeted shooting.
01:18Now, we understand there were up to 60 patrons in the Harold Hotel at the time of the shooting.
01:24As you've said, it was chaotic scenes when this shooting took place.
01:27We've heard witnesses describe seeing a number of assailants fleeing into a vehicle.
01:33Police are currently looking for a dark-coloured car in relation to last night's shooting.
01:38But let's take a quick listen to what witnesses had to tell us last night.
01:42Lots and lots of police.
01:43The whole street has been closed off.
01:45Lots of ambulances.
01:46Lots of people looking, coming out.
01:48It's not scary.
01:49It's just a shock.
01:50You obviously don't like having this happening so close to where you live.
01:53It's not a nice feeling.
01:54It's a bit uneasy.
01:55But the police came pretty quickly.
01:57Now, forensic crews are still on scene this morning.
02:02They've particularly been focusing on a number of bullet casings that remain outside the Harold Hotel.
02:09We understand a female member of staff narrowly avoided being struck by one of the bullets during the shooting.
02:15Now, the big question now is whether the New South Wales Homicide Squad take over the investigation.
02:21And we'll be bringing you more when we get those developments.
02:23We'll be bringing you more when we get those developments.
