Police probe gangland links in fatal shooting in Sydney’s northwest

A gunman is on the run in Sydney, after a fatal shooting in the city's northwest. Officers are investigating possible links to gangland crime.

00:07of former UFC fighter Suman Mokhtarian yesterday in Sydney's northwest police confirming not only

00:14was the attack targeted but not the first attempt on Mr Mokhtarian's life. Suman Mokhtarian was

00:20found with bullet wounds to his torso on a quiet intersection in Riverston at about 6pm last night

00:25with at least a dozen bullets fired at the 33 year old. Some of those bullets striking nearby cars

00:32and residential fences. One young mother who was the first to notify police says the shooting has

00:38rocked her faith in the quiet neighborhood her young family live in. I was out the front with

00:42my little kids one and three and we heard the gunshots and then yeah the person drove past our

00:49house um I called the police straight away run over and checked to see if he was alive he clearly

00:56wasn't yeah well I thought I want to move I want to like go bush it was scary yeah. Police say this isn't

01:03the first attempt on Mr Mokhtarian's life with a previous foiled attempt in February of last year

01:09where he was confronted by a gunman outside a gym in Wentworthville in Sydney's western suburbs. My heart

01:15goes out to the family of this victim and certainly any of the people that witnessed it it would have

01:21been a horrific thing to witness and it's certainly not something we tolerate in the community and

01:27certainly New South Wales Police are putting a lot of effort into trying to target these sorts of offences.

01:35Investigators will now be turning to two vehicles found burnt out near the scene shortly after the

01:41shooting a white van and a red Audi police say are linked to the fatal attack. Witnesses say that red

01:48Audi was seen speeding away from the scene shortly after the shooting with at least one occupant in

01:54that vehicle. Witnesses telling police that white van was seen casing the area shortly before the fatal

02:01shooting. While police have confirmed they believe the fatal attack on Mr Mokhtarian was a targeted shooting

02:08they've stopped short of making any link to organised crime or a gangland hit.
