00:00Showtime pay-per-view Mayweather Maidana 2. It will be a stacked four-fight lineup.
00:05It all starts Saturday, September 13th at a new earlier time, 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific.
00:13So again, in September, we're back to Las Vegas for a Floyd Mayweather fight, but we're back with you before then, next week,
00:19and then a week before the big pay-per-view, as we will be in Cincinnati for a homecoming fight with Adrian Broner.
00:25Adrian Broner joins us right now.
00:27Oh, oh, oh!
00:29Looking bright.
00:30Flash, flash, flash, yes, always.
00:32You look very sharp. Yes, very good.
00:33Adrian, your first fight back since the loss to Maidana against Carlos Molina.
00:38How did you feel? What do you think?
00:39I felt great. I went in untouched and came out untouched.
00:44And I partied with my family and kissed my babies, and now we're on to the next one.
00:48What did you want to accomplish in that fight? What was important to you?
00:52It was getting on to the next fight. That's all I was doing.
00:57And I did that, and I was successful, and now I'm on to another one.
01:01You felt sharp?
01:02Oh, of course. But, you know, I had some ring rust, but we're back in effect.
01:07All right. Fighting in Cincinnati, what does that mean to you?
01:10You haven't been fighting at your home in about, what, two years, right?
01:13It means a lot, man. You know, the home crowd, man, it's electrifying.
01:17They love me there, and every time I fight at home, I get a stoppage.
01:20So I'm coming home, and I'm going to keep that remedy going.
01:24What do you think of Emmanuel Taylor, the guy you're going to be fighting?
01:27Hell of a fighter. Just came off one of his biggest wins.
01:30It was a hell of a win. I didn't see the fight, but the guy that he beat is a tough opponent.
01:36You didn't see the fight?
01:37Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
01:38You're going to see the fight eventually, right? You got scouting? What are you doing?
01:41No, no, no, no, no. Listen, man, listen.
01:44All I do is be prepared to make my adjustments and get my victories.
01:47All right. So you have other people do the scouting for you?
01:50Yes.
01:50Okay. All right. What's your big picture goal? Again, you're at 140. Are you staying at 140?
01:55Yes. Right now, the thing for me is 140, and I'm having fun at 140. I make it easy.
02:01I can make weight tomorrow. I eat what I want, and I have fun.
02:05Okay. What do you want to do?
02:08Big picture. Like, look at the next couple of years. What do you want to do?
02:10Well, everybody knows boxing is a, you take it, fight at a time.
02:16Right.
02:16You know, but I definitely want to win a world title at 140, so I can be a four-time world champion
02:21of four different weight classes at 24.
02:23All right.
02:24Well, at 25 now.
02:25All right. So, Lamont Peterson then, or Danny Garcia? Danny Garcia is the Ring Magazine champ.
02:29You have your eyes on Garcia in the future somewhere?
02:32Hey, I mean, it's, boxing is a business.
02:35I got love for a lot of fighters in the gang, but, you know, boxing is a business.
02:44So, you know, if it makes sense, you know, I'm with that money.
02:48All right. But you'd like to be the world champion at 140 pounds then?
02:52That's all I'm saying.
02:53Okay. What did you think of Mayweather versus Maidana?
02:56Hell of a fight. Maidana is a tough opponent for anybody. Of course I know that.
03:01And, you know, the last fight was a tough fight for my big brother, but he got past it like he always do.
03:08And I feel like this fight is going to be an easier fight for Mayweather.
03:11And he'll get past this one.
03:13But after that, you know, I'm going to put on a show September 6th, and hopefully I get my rematch with Maidana.
03:22All right. Very good stuff.
03:23Again, we'll let you get back to camp.
03:24You look sharp.
03:25Enjoy New York City.
03:26I know you will.
03:27And we'll see you September 6th.
03:28All right. Thank you, brother.
03:29Thank you. Adrian Broner right there again coming up September 6th back in Cincinnati.
03:34Coming up next here in Brooklyn, the return of the junior welterweight champion, maybe in this guy's future as well, Danny Garcia in a 10-rounder against Rod Salka.
03:43Garcia is a Philadelphia fighter who has several ring homes here in Brooklyn, where he's established himself as a fan favorite,
03:49and in Puerto Rico, where his parents were born and raised.
03:52Garcia back in New York tonight after a bout in Puerto Rico, where he found his ancestral home and part of his living heritage.
03:59We come back to see where it all started.
04:06My dad, before he moved to America.
04:10It's different here.
04:11Look, they don't bury them in the grave.
04:13No, just all your family.
04:15This is my father.
04:16Oh, they all together?
04:17Yeah.
04:18My cousin.
04:19My grandpa.
04:20They said a good die young, but the only one that died young there was my cousin.
04:24He was a good man, but he was sad because he was abused.
04:29I see him getting abused.
04:31Basically.
04:32By his father.
04:35Let's go.
04:41This is the gym.
04:42My dad used to come to me.
04:44Look at the boxing gym.
04:47Shit.
04:49Oh, you can't ball.
04:52I bet you shoot a hook shot.
04:54I bet you shoot a hook shot.
04:55Take it to the court.
04:58Let me see you shoot again.
04:59Come on, young boy.
05:00I see one of my cousins who runs the gym, the boxing gym.
05:03He had Olympians come out of here.
05:05He used to train me.
05:06He's my cousin.
05:08This the house?
05:09Right here.
05:10This is where I was born as a child.
05:12It was five years old.
05:12I still remember.
05:14Same way it was.
05:15This was our living room.
05:17That was our bedroom.
05:19Back there, it was the kitchen.
05:21Small kitchen with a shower and just a sink.
05:23Cold water, no hot water.
05:25Can you imagine that?
05:26Four children in here.
05:27He came a long way and his dreams come true.
05:30Thanks to you.
05:31That's the best thing God ever gave me when you was born.
05:35God bless our home.
05:38We're going to go to my grandma's house.
05:41Hey, Camila.
05:42Hey.
05:43How are you?
05:46Hey.
05:48How are you?
05:48You're beautiful, huh?
05:49In Philadelphia, United States.
05:52It was very important for my children to meet their great-grandma.
05:58You know, they don't have no grandparents.
06:00For my wife and myself.
06:01So, it's my mother's mother.
06:03She's 98.
06:04She's blind.
06:06Look, look at my son.
06:07Danny.
06:08Who?
06:09I don't touch.
06:09She's got to get close.
06:10She can't see.
06:11She's got a barba.
06:14She was like, where's that baseball player?
06:16At least she knows I'm an athlete.
06:18No, no.
06:20She's got to get close.
06:23Yeah, look at it.
06:23She can't.
06:24But I woke up.
06:25Oh, my God.
06:27What's up?
06:27What are you?
06:28What's up?
06:29What's up?
06:29What's up?
06:31What's up?
06:31I'm going to give him a hug.
06:32One, two, three.
06:35What are you, fuck you?
06:36Grandma's got a barba.
06:37Grandma's got a barba.
06:38You see where you get it from there, right?
06:40That's a generation.
06:40What are you, too, fuck you?
06:42I'm going to do it.
06:49I think I'm going to give us a tour of the place.
06:52You know, he showed us a lot of the history.
06:54This is our flag and testimony of that we have you as our boxer, Danny Garcia, as a Puerto
07:01Rican boxer.
07:02I'm proud.
07:02I'm proud of this.
07:05I appreciate it.
07:06My pleasure.
07:06I noticed that, like, the flag in Puerto Rico, it's a little lighter, the blue, than over
07:11there, right?
07:12That's the real color.
07:14Yeah.
07:14So that's the fake color over there?
07:16No.
07:17I got the real color.
07:18Yes.
07:21Take care, okay?
07:22Thank you for having me.
07:23I appreciate it.
07:23I keep winning.
07:24This trip, it meant a lot to me.
07:25I'm just going to soak it all in, and I'm coming back to Puerto Rico.
07:31Garcia making a real connection there in Puerto Rico, an emotional visit for father and son,
07:36and then, of course, he was tested in that fight.
07:38Our crew, by the way, had Mauricio Herrera winning that fight.
07:42Many people had it very close.
07:43Herrera, quality boxer.
07:44He proved that in his last win last month over Johan Perez, but as a consensus champ,
07:49one coming off a win over Lucas Matisse, Garcia has a little something to prove to get his
07:54stock back up tonight.
07:55Let's go back to Mauro Ranallo.
07:57All right, Brian, here in Brooklyn, we are set for the main event of the evening.
08:01It is scheduled for 10 rounds at a weight of 142 pounds, and yes, the top dog,
08:06at 140 pounds, Danny Garcia, in a non-title affair against a mega underdog, Rod Salka.
08:15Let's go to Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
08:19Ladies and gentlemen, we are ready for the main event, and now please welcome to the ring
08:25from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lightning Rod Salka.
08:35Well, the sport of boxing has been littered with major upsets throughout its history.
08:40Polly will never forget what Buster Douglas did to Mike Tyson as a 42-1 underdog in February
08:451990.
08:47Evander Holyfield was a 24-1 underdog when he first faced Mike Tyson.
08:52And tonight, Rod Salka from Vanola, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh, comes in as one
09:00of the bigger underdogs of the year.
09:02Talk about his mentality, and, you know, obviously not in the class of the fighters we talked about,
09:08but still, he wants to do what those aforementioned luminaries did.
09:13He wants to make a name for himself tonight.
09:14As a fighter, all you're looking for is an opportunity.
09:17You know, you do your job, you go in there, and, you know, you fight as best you can.
09:20Rod Salka is not a bad boxer.
09:22You know, last year, I thought he beat Ricardo Alvarez and didn't get the decision.
09:26Had he gotten that decision, he would have moved on to the next phase of his career.
09:29Instead, he came up on the short end of a controversial decision, and he went backwards.
09:33And so now here he is, surprisingly, surprising to everybody that he is here.
09:37But at the end of the day, all you're looking for is an opportunity, and you come extra motivated
09:41because your dream, you're on the doorstep of your dream.
09:45Now, does that mean Salka is going to magically get more talented in the moment?
09:49No, but sometimes a little bit of determination.
09:51You put together what you already have in the package, and you can put together a good performance.
09:55Tremendous amount of backlash when this fight was announced, obviously,
09:57but a lot of people spreading vitriol at Salka.
10:01He didn't want to turn down a career-high payday.
10:03He's making $125,000 tonight, an extra $10,000 for every pound over $140,000, so that's an extra $20,000.
10:08And he feels, you know what, I've been an underdog my entire career.
10:11I've been vaccinated, I'm immune to this, so we'll see what happens as we get set for the introduction of the champion.
10:24And now, making his way to the ring, here is the undefeated world champion from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
10:31Danny Swift Garcia!
10:41Rapper Jada Kiss and Danny Garcia wanting to put on a bit of a show here,
11:08maybe realizing what everyone has said about the match-up.
11:12He wants to add a little flair, and he wants to prove that he is indeed the man still at 140 pounds.
11:19Al, he heard the criticism and what happened in Puerto Rico where,
11:23not to say he underestimated Mauricio Herrera, but you guys had Herrera winning the fight,
11:27and Garcia's been through a lot. He's faced eight former champions before that,
11:32and so here tonight, he has to make a statement.
11:35Yeah, he's said that he's coming in here to knock out Salt-Head, that nothing less than that would be acceptable.
11:41Now, I say that Mauricio Herrera is one of the top 540-pounders in the world.
11:45I was not surprised Herrera gave him the problems that he did.
11:48However, Danny Swift, because of the perception of people in that fight,
11:53Herrera being proud of him as a big underdog, knows it's important to win.
11:57So tonight, Enos Father made it clear in every interview they've done,
12:00he wants to walk down Salka and knock him out. We'll see if he can do it.
12:04As we mentioned, Fikurier former champs in six of his last eight fights,
12:08interim champs in the other two, 8-0, with two knockouts in those fights.
12:12Here tonight, getting set to take on Rod Salka in a non-title tilt.
12:17Let's go to the tail of the tank.
12:18Well, these numbers are very, very similar, so there isn't a physical thing to put your finger on.
12:26The big issue is going to be the talent level and can Rod Salka, as Paulie pointed out,
12:32come up with an effort that is special for him.
12:38All right, so we are set for 10 rounds or less in the 142-pound contract fight.
12:45Let's go to Jimmy Lennon Jr. for the official introductions.
12:53Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Barclays Center here in Brooklyn, New York,
12:59for the featured bout of the evening brought to you by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions
13:05and Showtime, sponsored by Corona, La Cerveza Mas Fina, and AT&T, mobilizing your world.

13:17The chairperson, Melvina Latham, executive director, David Berlin.

13:25From Oneida Castle, New York, Don Ackerman.
13:29From Rockville Center, New York, Kevin Morgan.
13:32And from Vendor, New Jersey, Joe Pasquale.
13:36And our referee in charge, our third man in the ring for this bout, Steve Willis.
13:43All right, fans, here we go with the main event of the evening.
13:47Ten rounds of boxing at a super lightweight, over-the-limits special attraction.
13:53And now, ladies and gentlemen in attendance and boxing fans joining us around the world.
14:01Live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
14:06It's showtime.
14:08Introducing to you first on my left, fighting out of the red corner,
14:18wearing dark blue chunks with gold trim,
14:21and hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
14:24He weighed in at 141 pounds.
14:27His record stands at 19 wins, three losses,
14:30with three wins coming by way of knockout.
14:33Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the WBC Fekker Box lightweight champion.
14:37Introducing Lightning, Rod Salka.
14:47And his opponent across the ring on my right,
14:50fighting out of the blue corner, this 10-round special attraction,
14:53wearing brown trunks with gold trim,
14:56hailing from his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
14:59He weighed in at 141 and three-quarter pounds.
15:03This highly regarded unified champion is undefeated in his campaign to the ring
15:08with a record of 28 wins, no losses,
15:1216 wins coming by way of knockout.
15:15Ladies and gentlemen,
15:17here is the undefeated WBA and WBC super lightweight champion of the world.
15:23Introducing Danny...
15:25SWIFT GARCIA!
15:35I'd offer you a charge now to give instructions.
15:37Once again, here is Steve Willis.
15:43Good evening, gentlemen.
15:44Both received your instructions.
15:45I want you to pay the commands to protect yourselves at all times.
15:47Right now, low line, everything here is low.
15:51Everything here is low.
15:52All right, tap it up, let's go to work.
15:57So, we are set for 10 rounds.
16:00Contract weight of 142 pounds.
16:03The ring magazine champion at that weight, Danny Garcia,
16:07in a non-title fight.
16:08Prohibitive favorite
16:11against the mega-upset-minded Rod Asalka,
16:17who's been a lightning rod in the build-up
16:20to this fight.
16:22That is his nickname,
16:23and he would like to strike a lightning bolt throughout the sport.
16:28Not many people give him much of a chance.
16:30We'll have to wait and see what transpires as we get set here.
16:33The bell in round number one.
16:42Danny Garcia in the golden brown,
16:44metallic snakeskin.
16:46Rod Asalka, dark blue and gold.
16:49Both men are in sartorial splendor, that's for sure.
16:52You know, Asalka said that he needs to throw a lot of punches in this fight
16:57to be busy.
16:58He averages about 73.
17:00He may need more,
17:01and he says, I've got to throw as many as possible
17:03to try and make a difference.
17:05But you've got to be careful
17:06because of the counter-punching ability of Garcia.
17:08We saw two counter-shots there to the body.
17:10The more active you are,
17:12you've got to be sharp also on the counter-punching.
17:14Asalka told us,
17:15he feels the champion's going to come out of the gate,
17:18try to get him out of there in a hurry.
17:19Watch your heads, watch your heads.
17:22Garcia very reactive here in round one.
17:24There's a double left hand,
17:31one to the body,
17:32another to the head
17:33by Garcia.
17:36You see Asalka moving constantly to his left.
17:39That's the way he normally moves,
17:40and he said,
17:40I think that will keep me out of heart,
17:42straight from the left hook.
17:43The question, of course,
17:44is he has to make sure he doesn't get hit
17:45with the right hand by Garcia.
17:47He's got to be more confident
17:50and use that jab
17:50if he's going to move around.
17:51Otherwise, Garcia's going to start cutting him off
17:53and close the gap
17:54with those power shots.
17:59The other left took to the body by Garcia.
18:02One thing Team Garcia told us
18:04in the fighter meetings
18:05is that they felt Danny was faster
18:07during the sparring sessions.
18:09He was quicker, he was sharper.
18:10We see that sharpness here in round one.
18:17The jab of Asalka,
18:19and it is his main weapon,
18:21has not been used very much
18:23early in his fight.
18:25And that's the thing,
18:26the counter-punching ability of Garcia.
18:29Has Asalka thinking a little bit.
18:31He's going to have to
18:31kind of judge his distance right
18:33and start making some adjustments
18:34here early on.
18:35Asalka spent 10 years
18:36in the military,
18:37enlisted in August of 2001
18:40when he was 18,
18:41just weeks before the 9-11 terrorist attacks
18:43went to basic training
18:44right after that.
18:45Stationed all over the world
18:48as a crew chief,
18:49a mechanic on the big refuelers.
18:53He's a fascinating guy,
18:54Asalka.
18:55Great athlete in school.
18:56Yeah, he's tremendous
18:57and he's a renaissance man
18:59to be sure.
19:00None of that is going to help him
19:01in the ring right now,
19:02but he's an interesting guy.
19:04We'll see if he can continue this,
19:07stay hanging in there
19:08and maybe land some punches.
19:12Left hook behind.
19:13The right hand of Asalka
19:16landed by Garcia.
19:29Philadelphia fighter
19:29with a fully shell there.
19:30Less than 10 seconds left
19:32in the opening round.
19:33Al, take us through the keys
19:40to victory.
19:43For Danny Garcia,
19:45don't press for the KO.
19:47You don't have to.
19:48Just do your job in there.
19:49We saw that in round one.
19:50Cut off the ring
19:51because Asalka's obviously
19:53going to be moving.
19:54I think the left hook
19:55will be an important weapon
19:56for Garcia
19:57if he can get it going
19:58against Asalka
19:59who sometimes
20:00has that punch available to him.
20:04As to Asalka,
20:05he needs to go in and out.
20:07You gotta,
20:07like Carrera,
20:08you gotta be inside
20:09then be outside
20:10and move.
20:10Gotta be busy,
20:11but as Paulie points out,
20:12you have to worry
20:13about being countered.
20:13Now, the reason I say
20:14keep the left up
20:15instead of the right
20:16so much against the hook,
20:18he's moving into that right hand.
20:19He's inviting it.
20:20So he has to make sure
20:21that left hand is up.
20:22In Asalka's corner,
20:2538-year-old former
20:26IVF lightweight champion
20:27Paul Spadafora,
20:28Southpaw reigned
20:29from 1999 to 2003,
20:32remains active
20:32as a 140-pounder.
20:34Also in his corner,
20:35actor Desmond Harrington,
20:37who you may remember
20:38as Detective Quinn
20:39on the critically acclaimed
20:40Showtime series,
20:41Dexter.
20:42Round two begins.
20:45That was a great show
20:46and he is a terrific actor.
20:48Jab to the body by Asalka.
20:51Left hand upstairs by
20:52Garcia.
21:04That's the dilemma
21:05you have with trying
21:06to be busy
21:07against Danny Garcia.
21:08He's very sharp
21:09on his counters.
21:09He can also lead
21:10on his own.
21:11So if he can get you
21:12kind of doubting
21:13your offense
21:13because of his
21:14counter-punching ability,
21:15he'll take over
21:16from there
21:16with some sharp leads
21:17as well.
21:17So it's a better
21:18complete fighter
21:19and it's up to Asalka
21:19to kind of try
21:21to offset that rhythm
21:22Garcia's starting
21:23to bring you.
21:25One of the things
21:26to look for
21:27and you see him
21:28try it right there.
21:29Short counter
21:30left hook from Asalka
21:31that he knocked
21:32Alexei Piato down
21:34with in his last fight.
21:38In December
21:39he appeared
21:39on Show Extreme
21:40and he just got
21:42rattled there
21:43by Danny Garcia
21:45and down goes
21:46Rob Salka.
21:48Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
21:57All right?
21:57The second time
21:59that Salka's been
22:00on the canvas
22:00in his career
22:01in April of 2012
22:02was knocked down
22:03against Angel Rios
22:04and Garcia slipping
22:06as he goes on the attack.
22:10Salka doing
22:10this marked thing
22:11here trying to hold it on.
22:12I was going to say
22:13that Salka
22:14on Show Extreme
22:15in December
22:15dropped a disputed
22:17majority decision
22:18a junior welterweight
22:19to Ricardo Alvarez
22:20the older brother
22:21of Mexican superstar
22:22Canelo
22:22as he's still
22:23getting rocked here
22:24with the left hook
22:25from Garcia
22:26and Garcia now
22:27smelling blood.
22:29There's a lot of time
22:29left in this round.
22:32I see him loading up
22:32everything.
22:34And a knee
22:34is taken by Salka.
22:36Three, four, five, six,
22:42seven, eight, nine.
22:46All right?
22:47Yeah, I'm good.
22:48Under a minute left
22:49in the second round.
22:52Garcia seeking,
22:54looking to destroy,
22:57unloading.
22:58Sorry, even the referee
22:59Steve Willis
22:59making a face
23:00like he wants to stop this.
23:01And he may be very close
23:03to doing so,
23:04but Salka
23:05showing his grit
23:06and Hart gets rocked
23:07with that left hook.
23:08Salka down
23:09and it's over.
23:13Statement made
23:14by Danny Garcia.
23:18To no surprise
23:20as he was
23:22the prohibitive favorite.
23:28Garcia's family
23:29celebrating,
23:30but concern
23:31for Rod Salka
23:33now being attended to
23:34and he is being
23:36helped up,
23:37which is a good sign.
23:39Still a little wobbly,
23:40but he's back
23:40on his feet.
23:43So Danny Garcia
23:44living up to his nickname,
23:45taking care of business
23:46swiftly here tonight.
23:48He said he wanted
23:49to do exactly that
23:50and he did it
23:51and the right hands
23:53were the things
23:54that first got
23:56Salka in trouble
23:57and then ultimately
23:58it was in fact
23:59a devastating left hook
24:00and we're happy
24:01to see Salka
24:02responding here
24:03and up on the stool.
24:06The first knockdown
24:07was a hook right hand,
24:08but the right hand
24:09came around the guard,
24:11not down the middle
24:12like you typically see
24:13from a left hook
24:13right hand combination
24:14and from there on,
24:16I mean,
24:16Salka got hurt badly
24:17and he never seemed
24:18to recover.
24:19He tried,
24:19but he never seemed
24:20to recover.
24:30We see that,
24:32you know,
24:32in this very short fight,
24:34a big percentage
24:35landed in power punches
24:37for Danny Garcia
24:38and about seven
24:39or eight of them
24:39or ten or so
24:40were ones
24:41that really hurt
24:41Salka.
24:42We'll look at the first
24:58knockdown
24:58in this fight
25:00and it would come
25:02because of a right hand
25:03that Garcia would add
25:06the jab to the body
25:07looks a lot like
25:08Marcus Maidana
25:09when he does that.
25:10That's his trademark
25:12and in this case,
25:13Garcia,
25:13that's when Salka
25:14got hurt
25:15and then he would
25:15go down from
25:16really being hurt
25:18and just a delayed reaction.
25:20then a second time
25:23Salka visited
25:24the canvas.
25:26It would again,
25:26I believe,
25:27come courtesy
25:28of a left hook
25:29that started
25:31the trouble
25:31for him
25:32and then
25:32a straight right hand
25:33by Garcia
25:35as he continued
25:36to assault him
25:37and Salka
25:39was just in trouble
25:39from all these
25:40power punches.
25:41That one,
25:41those right hands
25:41landed on the side
25:43of the head
25:43and I think
25:44affected his equilibrium
25:45and all the work
25:47by the right hand
25:48ultimately
25:49would lead to
25:51the final knockdown
25:53of the fight.
25:54Some bravado
25:55by Salka
25:56shows his heart
25:57and determination
25:58but Danny Garcia
26:00has one of the
26:00better left hooks
26:01in boxing
26:02and that one
26:02landed slush
26:03and thank goodness
26:05as you see him
26:06hit the canvas
26:07very hard,
26:08thank goodness
26:08Rod Salka
26:09was able to get up
26:09from this left hook
26:11by Danny Garcia.
26:15All right,
26:25let's make it official
26:26with Jimmy Lennon Jr.
26:30Ladies and gentlemen,
26:32we have the time
26:32of 2 minutes
26:3331 seconds
26:35in round number 2.
26:37He is the winner
26:37by way of knockout
26:39and he is still
26:40undefeated
26:41Danny Swift
26:43Garcia
26:46Let's go to
26:53Jim Gray.
26:54All right,
26:55Moe,
26:55thank you very much.
26:57Danny,
26:57this is obviously
26:58what everybody expected
26:59and you met
27:00the expectations.
27:01You know,
27:01first of all,
27:01I want to thank God,
27:02I want to thank
27:02Team DSG,
27:04I want to thank
27:04Alhemi,
27:04I want to thank
27:05Golden Boy,
27:06I want to thank
27:06the Barclays Center
27:07and I want to thank
27:08Showtime,
27:08you know,
27:09for giving me
27:09another opportunity
27:10to showcase my skills
27:11in front of the world.
27:12But as far as the fight,
27:14you know,
27:14I came here
27:15and I did what
27:15I was supposed to do.
27:16It doesn't always
27:17happen in boxing.
27:18You know,
27:18I trained hard,
27:19I didn't listen to the people
27:20saying it was going
27:20to be an easy fight
27:21because if I would've
27:22took it lightly,
27:22he would've came in here
27:23and, you know,
27:24probably upset at me
27:25but I took this fight
27:26like I took any other fight.
27:27I came prepared
27:28and I came here
27:29and I did what I was
27:29supposed to do.
27:30Well,
27:30you mentioned
27:31that people are upset
27:31so you obviously know
27:33what was going on
27:33around this fight.
27:34What does it prove
27:35to fight somebody
27:35when you know
27:36going into the fight
27:37that you have
27:38so much more talented
27:39You know,
27:40at the end of the day,
27:41I let my management
27:42pick the team
27:42and my job,
27:44my job is to,
27:45my fans love me.
27:46My fans came out here
27:47to support me
27:47so, you know,
27:48they support whatever I do
27:49and I came here
27:51and did what I was
27:51supposed to do.
27:52No fight is easy
27:53in boxing
27:53unless you put the
27:54hard work in.
27:55I put the hard work in
27:55and it was,
27:56I got through W.
27:58Well,
27:58did you want,
27:59for lack of a better term,
28:01an easy night
28:01based on all the
28:02tough fights that you've had?
28:04No,
28:04I didn't think
28:05it was going to be
28:05an easy fight.
28:06I thought he was going
28:06to come in here
28:07and try to box me
28:09but, you know,
28:10it was,
28:11like I said,
28:12it has nothing to do
28:13with my opponent
28:13because when Danny Garcia
28:15is at his best,
28:16he can beat anybody
28:16and I already proved that.
28:18Let's take a look
28:18at the end of this fight
28:20if we can get you
28:20to look at the monitor
28:21here, Danny,
28:21and tell us about
28:22the knockout.
28:24I think I threw
28:24a right hand to the body
28:25and I threw
28:26a left hook upstairs.
28:28Yeah,
28:29boom.
28:29There it is.
28:30So it was a right hand
28:31to the body
28:31and a left hook upstairs.
28:33That's something
28:33I've been working on
28:34in camp
28:34because I know
28:35guys are going
28:36to try to come
28:36and outbox me.
28:38So I had to
28:40throw some decoy shots
28:41and throw the hard shots
28:42upstairs.
28:43And just for everybody
28:43who is concerned,
28:44Rod Salka is over there
28:46up in the corner.
28:46He's been checked out
28:47by the doctor.
28:48He is okay.
28:49They gave him several tests
28:50and he is fine
28:51as of this moment.
28:52Lamont Peterson
28:53won this evening.
28:53He said after the fight
28:54that he would like
28:55to fight you next.
28:56If you won,
28:56you've now won.
28:57Will you fight
28:57Lamont Peterson?
28:58You know,
28:58I'm all about
28:59fighting the best fighters
29:00and I'll leave that
29:01up to Al Heyman
29:02but if he wants it,
29:03he can get it too
29:04because this is what I do
29:05because I'm a fighter.
29:07So you're saying
29:08you'd like for Al Heyman
29:09to figure out
29:10how to fight
29:10Lamont Peterson?
29:11You know,
29:11Al Heyman picked
29:12the hardest fights for me.
29:13He picked the fights
29:14where I was supposed to win.
29:15You know,
29:15he picked the ones
29:15where I wasn't supposed
29:16to win
29:16and it doesn't matter to me.
29:18Like I said,
29:19I show up fighting night.
29:21I have good days,
29:21I have bad days
29:22but I always find a way
29:23to win.
29:24Danny,
29:24thank you.
29:25We appreciate it.
29:25Thank you to all my fans
29:26worldwide.
29:28All right,
29:28Moe,
29:28back to you.
29:29All right,
29:29Jim,
29:30thank you very much.
29:30Danny Garcia does
29:31what was expected,
29:33improving to 29-0,
29:34picks up his 17th win
29:36inside the distance.
29:37Alan Pauly,
29:38what did we learn tonight?
29:39Well,
29:40we didn't really learn much
29:41because Rod Salker,
29:42who's a 135-pounder
29:44coming up,
29:45was outgunned
29:46by Danny Garcia
29:47and many people
29:49suspected that was the case.
29:50So,
29:51Danny Garcia
29:51was fought
29:52a very tough schedule,
29:53eight former
29:53or current world champions
29:55in the last eight fights,
29:56gets a fight
29:56that is not as tough.
29:58Certainly not.
29:59But,
29:59we hope to see him next
30:01in a very meaningful fight
30:03and I hope he does
30:04take a meaningful fight.
30:05Pauly?
30:05You know,
30:05in boxing,
30:06we don't always show up
30:07on our best night
30:08every time we go out there
30:09and Danny Garcia
30:11coming off
30:11of a little controversial win
30:13against Herrera
30:13had a lot to prove tonight.
30:15He's not going to get
30:16a lot of credit for this
30:17because of the opponent.
30:18That's unfortunate
30:19because I'll tell you,
30:20I was watching here
30:20ringside with you guys,
30:22Danny Garcia
30:22was very sharp tonight.
30:24He was very sharp tonight
30:25and because of that,
30:26anybody in the ring
30:28with him tonight
30:28would have had
30:29a very tough time.
30:30It's unfortunate
30:30because not enough
30:31people understand boxing
30:32and they're going to say,
30:33oh,
30:33it was only because
30:34it was Rod Salka.
30:35But let me tell you something,
30:35this kid was very sharp tonight.
30:37You could see the way
30:37he was punching,
30:38defending,
30:39and just reacting
30:40very well.
30:42Pauly Malignaggi,
30:43former champion
30:43in his own right.
30:44Let's go to Brian Kenning.
30:46Pauly,
30:46that's an excellent point
30:47because,
30:48look,
30:48as a champ,
30:49you come in
30:49and you heard
30:50Danny Garcia saying it,
30:51hey,
30:52look,
30:52I'm going to come in
30:52completely prepared.
30:54I'm going to prepare
30:54for everyone the same way,
30:56whether it's Rod Salka,
30:57a guy who you figure
30:58he was going to be able
30:59to outclass,
31:00or Lucas Matisse,
31:01who was at his very peak
31:03and was marching through
31:04the junior welterweight division
31:06when Garcia went in
31:07against him
31:08and then beat him
31:09and then became
31:11the junior welterweight
31:11champion of the world,
31:12kind of solidifying it
31:13and ending all debate.
31:15So an exciting night
31:16for Garcia,
31:17an exhilarating highlight
31:18at the very least,
31:19and he did his job
31:20and that's all
31:21a champion can really do.
31:22Now you can see
31:23these two,
31:24Lamont Peterson
31:24and Danny Garcia,
31:25we'll see how the discussions
31:26and the negotiations go.
31:28That would be
31:28a very good matchup
31:29and Peterson has earned
31:30his way back
31:31to the top of the division.
31:32More from Brooklyn
31:33in a moment,
31:34but first,
31:34here's a look at
31:34what's coming up
31:35on Showtime
31:35tomorrow night
31:36and in September.
31:40Me!
31:41Mickey's talking to Cochran.
31:42He could tell him everything.
31:43Sean Walker,
31:44Van Miller.
31:44We could go to jail,
31:45Ezra.
31:47On the next,
31:48all new,
31:48Ray Donovan.
31:49I can handle you, man.
31:51Go, Ray.
31:51He's out of control
31:52and I'm not gonna let him
31:54fuck up my plans.
31:55We know all about your husband.
31:56I mean,
31:57we know what he has.
31:58Oh my God!
32:00You're gonna get yourself killed.
32:02Ray was not kidding.
32:03Things are dangerous now.
32:04You need to go back to Boston.
32:05It really bothers you,
32:12doesn't it?
32:13Not being in control.
32:14Ray Donovan.
32:15Tomorrow at 9.
32:16Only on Showtime
32:17and Showtime Anytime.
32:19This year,
32:20it's a whole new ball game
32:21at Inside the NFL.
32:22A new night,
32:23some new faces,
32:24but still the one show
32:25in a loop by itself
32:26with every game
32:27every week.
32:28So kick off the season
32:29with a premiere
32:30of Inside the NFL.
32:31Tuesday,
32:32September 2nd at 9
32:33only on Showtime.
32:36Let's go through
32:37our night of boxing
32:37here from the Barclays Center.
32:39Daniel Jacobs
32:40back in the ring
32:41six times since
32:42beating cancer
32:43and coming back
32:43from hospitalization.
32:45Taking on Australian
32:46Jared Fletcher.
32:47Knocked him down
32:48in the first round.
32:48Looked like it was gonna be
32:49an easy night,
32:50but to Fletcher's credit,
32:52came back and settled down,
32:54but in the fourth round,
32:55Jacobs rocking Fletcher again.
32:57Knocked him down then
32:58in the fifth round
32:59and the fight
32:59was stopped.
33:00Daniel Jacobs
33:01still just one
33:03professional loss
33:04and moving up in the ranks
33:05in the middleweight division
33:07and getting a belt
33:08as well,
33:09which we know
33:09is meaningful for him.
33:11Lamont Peterson,
33:12methodical,
33:14not easy work,
33:15but steady work
33:16against Edgar Santana.
33:17Big body shots
33:18in round five
33:19as Peterson
33:20just had too much
33:21dimension to his game
33:22and wins his second fight
33:24since getting knocked out
33:25by Lucas Matisse.
33:26It was a stoppage
33:27in round ten
33:28with Santana
33:29no longer really answering
33:30good stoppage as well.
33:32Peterson now wants
33:33Danny Garcia
33:33and was hoping for the best
33:35in the main event
33:35and the best being
33:37that the champ
