A cloudy and grey start for many. The cloud tending to break to leave many areas with sunny spells, but may linger across parts of the Midlands and northeast England where it could produce a few spots of light rain or drizzle. A few showers and thunderstorms affecting the far southwest. Feeling warm for most but cooler where the clouds persists - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 18/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Tom Morgan.
00:00Hello, good morning. The week ahead is set to stay dry for the vast majority, but it will be cloudier and cooler compared to the weekend and in particular compared to last week.
00:09And that's certainly the case out there this morning. So quite grey, cloudy skies for many as we begin the day.
00:15And that cloud is going to persist into this afternoon for some as well, particularly across the Midlands and northeastern parts of England, where we could even see a few spits and spots of drizzle at times.
00:24But otherwise, the sunshine tending to slowly break that cloud up and we will see brighter skies for many as we go into this afternoon.
00:32The best of the sunshine, though, I think it will be central and western parts of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland as well.
00:37And here we'll probably see temperatures into the mid 20s, perhaps as high as 25 or 26 in places and a warm day to come across more southern areas as well.
00:46But for some north sea coastal regions where that cloud persists, it's going to feel pretty cool for the time of year.
00:52So only 16 or 17 degrees and perhaps quite misty at times over the higher ground.
00:59We'll also need to watch out for a few showers across the very far southwest, more especially Cornwall, maybe the odd thunderstorm at times this morning.
01:06And those showers will move their way northwards into the far south of Wales, perhaps by this evening.
01:11Away from those areas, though, it's going to be a fine end of the day with plenty of evening sunshine.
01:15But as we go through the course of tonight, that cloud on some north sea coast will start to drift its way a little bit further westwards once again.
01:23So moving in across northern England, across into the Midlands and the southeast.
01:26So skies turning cloudier here and perhaps a few spots of drizzle once again across north eastern parts of England.
01:32And perhaps even a little bit more in a way of persistent rain moving into the very far northeast of Scotland.
01:37A few showers once again for the southwest of England as well, perhaps thundery here, but for most it will be a dry night.
01:45And with that cloud around, it's not going to be particularly chilly either.
01:47So temperatures holding up in the low to mid-teens for most of us.
01:52It does mean that Tuesday will start on a fairly grey note once again for the vast majority,
01:56especially so in the east where a few spots of drizzle once again is possible.
02:01And across the northeast of Scotland, we could just see a more persistent band of rain just pushing through for a short time.
02:07Showers also across the southwest of England.
02:10These potentially heavy for Devon and Cornwall and maybe just fringing into the very far south of Wales as well.
02:15Perhaps the odd rumble of thunder once again.
02:18But skies will generally tend to brighten as we go through the day.
02:21So for Wales and southern parts of England, that's where we like to see the brightest conditions on Tuesday.
02:26So again, temperatures into the mid-twenties Celsius and feeling fairly pleasantly warm as well.
02:32But overall, a cooler day to come for Scotland, Northern Ireland and in particular northern England,
02:36where skies are likely to stay fairly cloudy and gloomy through most of the afternoon.
02:41And these temperatures are a little bit below average for the time of year.
02:44So feeling particularly cool compared to those we saw last week.
02:48Now, as we go through the second half of the week, it is likely to stay dry for the vast majority.
02:53A few showers perhaps on Tuesday and Wednesday in the far south.
02:55A lot of dry weather though with a mixture of clouds and sunny spells and temperatures very close to average.
