00:00And yes, here I am on the grid with the man Colin Tegentine who's on pole.
00:05Now he didn't have a particularly easy fight of it getting that pole,
00:08so we'll find out from him exactly what went on.
00:11Colin, tell us the drama that unfolded for your pole here.
00:15Yeah, the last lap was pretty hectic.
00:18I was lying in 10th position and went into the last corner up at clear waist,
00:21just got a tap from behind, which pushed me on past the corner
00:25and the guy behind then gained an advantage.
00:27So thankfully the stewards reversed the decision and gave me 10th place,
00:31which is now in pole, so it's great to have a clear track in front of me,
00:35so I need to make the most of it here.
00:38Now, these cars aren't going particularly well today, are they,
00:40now that you know Anthony Reid, why is that?
00:43Yeah, well, we've done very well at Knock Hill
00:45and we've come to brands with quite a bit of success by us,
00:47so that's a big factor which has caused me to be a bit off the pace,
00:51so hopefully now that the car's fully light,
00:54so we're just going to go for it here and see how it is.
00:58So are you going to convert your pole into a win?
01:01That is the game plan, but it doesn't always work out,
01:04but I'm going to give it my best shot.
01:05Lovely, all the best to you.
01:07Now then, stay tuned after the break,
01:09where we will bring you Race 2 Live.
01:11Sponsored by Green Flag Motoring Assistants,
01:20the breakdown specialists.
01:37Go, go, go.
01:38What's going on?
01:50Hurry up!
01:51Let's go, come on!
01:53What the hell is he doing?
01:56Mr. Weinstein will be with you in a moment, Ms. Aguilera.
01:58That's killing me, man.
02:08That's Christina Aguilera.
02:09Where?
02:10Oh, look what she's doing, man!
02:11Woo!
02:12Look at that!
02:12Hello, I got something for you.
02:14Pop diva Christina Aguilera has been spotted making a different kind of music.
02:19We did that!
02:20We did that!
02:21The devil makes work for idle thumbs.
02:23Text another virgin mobile for 3p.
02:27Norman knights, English bowmen, Viking warriors,
02:30crusaders, samurai, Saracens, medieval warriors.
02:34At last, the legendary soldiers who left their mark on history
02:37reproduced in a breathtaking collection of die-cast figurines.
02:41Part one comes with Henry V's standard bearer at an exceptional price.
02:45Is that Danny?
02:49Yeah.
02:50He seems to be doing all right.
02:51I hardly recognised him.
02:52Is he you?
02:53Yeah.
02:54Shh, shh, shh.
02:56Morning, ladies.
02:57Is that Danny Murphy?
02:58I think so.
02:59If only I was ten years younger.
03:03Is that Danny?
03:05Yeah.
03:06Nice wheels.
03:07Yeah.
03:09Says did he win the lottery or something?
03:10Nah, he just went to college.
03:13Who do you want to be?
03:15Stevenson College, Edinburgh.
03:17When you buy thousands,
03:18even the most expensive beds cost a lot less.
03:21Just look at the big whiskey,
03:23the ultimate luxury storage divan,
03:25and it's down from £749.95 to just £299.95.
03:29That's 60% off in the bedshed,
03:32and there's up to 60% off our massive range of mattresses.
03:35Head for the bedshed!
03:38Ooh, burgers.
03:39Ah.
03:39Mm.
03:41Now, I respect you,
03:42taking on the monsters of fast food for a living.
03:44Eh?
03:44But what about...
03:45A little squirt?
03:46Of something for that real takeaway taste.
03:49Do you know what that is?
03:50New Hellman's Burger Sauce.
03:51No, it's your neck.
03:53And you're sticking it on the line,
03:54not keeping up with the consumer.
03:56I can't promote your business through word of mouth
03:57with that stuck in the back of me throat.
03:59A little bit of sauce,
04:00you'll go a long way.
04:02You know the little squirt's right.
04:04Now there's new barbecue sauce as well.
04:06Clean.
04:15Clean.
04:18My baby, he's a clean guy.
04:23For tough cleaning,
04:25Sif, who else?
04:26New Shore for Men Active Response kicks in extra protection,
04:55keeping you fresh all day long.
04:57It won't let you down.

05:05The Breakdown Specialists.
05:07Welcome back to Brandt's Hatch,
05:16and we're really looking forward
05:17to the second race of the day coming up.
05:20It's going to be a hard-fought contest,
05:21there's no doubt.
05:22And Colin Turkington, Tim,
05:23has got a great chance, hasn't he?
05:24He certainly has.
05:25The MG's been the fastest car
05:27in the last two meetings,
05:28but they struggled in the first race today.
05:30They say because of a lot of weight in the car.
05:32Now we'll see if they really have got the pace,
05:34but Turkington will be favorite to win.
05:37Well, let's take a look at how they line up then
05:38for the start of this one.
05:39It is Colin Turkington and Jason Plato.
05:42He loves race two, always goes well.
05:44He's on the front row.
05:45Sean Watson-Smith and Rob Huff
05:47are on the second row of the grid.
05:48Third row, the youngsters,
05:50Tom Chilton and Luke Hines.
05:52Behind them, we've got James Kaye
05:54and James Thompson.
05:55Thompson now three points behind Muller
05:56in the championship.
05:57And on row number five,
05:58there is Ivan Muller,
06:00the series leader by just three points,
06:01with the race one winner from earlier today,
06:03Matt Neill alongside.
06:05Both of them carrying lots of lead ballast
06:07in the cars now
06:08as a result of winning that first race.
06:11It being first and second,
06:12Matt Neill gets 42 kilos of ballast.
06:14Ivan Muller gets 30 kilos of ballast.
06:16And certainly from what we've seen so far this weekend,
06:18the ballast is making a huge difference.
06:20Don't forget that Anthony Reid starts
06:22one row behind them.
06:23He's on the sixth row of the grid.
06:25I'm glad to say that Stefan Hodgitz
06:27has made it back out in the Alfa Romeo
06:29that got so badly damaged earlier.
06:31Dan Eves is also on the grid
06:33despite the fire that he suffered
06:35in his car in race number one.
06:37So all the cars now just moving into position.
06:40The last couple of cars taking their places.
06:43Dan Eves brings up the rear
06:45in a car that has been cleaned out
06:47from all the fire extinguisant
06:48that filled the cockpit earlier on.
06:50Colin Turkington and Jason Plato
06:52are on the front row of the grid.
06:54We're all set for round 23
06:56of the Green Flag MSA British Touring Car Championship.
06:59From Brian's hatch,
07:00it's one of the toughest circuits to overtake.
07:03But we're on for a great race
07:04and Turkington makes a good start from pole position.
07:07Plato slots in a second.
07:08Watson Smith cries for screens for on the inside,
07:10but there's no space
07:11because Plato has filled the gap there.
07:13And out there...
07:14Oh, and there's a spinner!
07:15And that's Muller!
07:16Oh, there's Hines!
07:17It's Luke Hines in trouble!
07:18Luke Hines in the third of the VX racing cars
07:21got tipped into a spin.
07:22Thompson's still there.
07:24Muller is still there.
07:25A bit further down,
07:26he got slowed down in that incident,
07:27but he didn't get taken out,
07:29which is going to be a big relief to him.
07:31It's Turkington that leads the race
07:33from Jason Plato.
07:34The two race favourites,
07:35Turkington and Plato,
07:37got off the line.
07:37Turkington made the better start.
07:39Plato was forced to move over
07:41across on Sean Watson Smith
07:42and nearly had a repeat
07:44of the accident he had here back in May
07:45where he ropes off his car.
07:46But now he's in the groove
07:47immediately up the inside at clearways.
07:49He's got a good inside overlap
07:51onto the main straight on Turkington already.
07:54Oh, that was a great move from Plato,
07:56clambering over the kerb
07:56to make sure he didn't hit Turkington.
07:58And they're side by side
07:59at 130 miles an hour
08:01on the brakes
08:02into Paddock Hill then.
08:03Down two gears into fourth
08:04and Plato with that inside line
08:06has the lead.
08:07He's taken the advantage
08:08from the MG.
08:09It's the yellow and silver
08:11Seat that goes ahead
08:12and we're looking back now
08:13from Plato
08:13at Colin Turkington.
08:15Sean Watson-Smith
08:16in the third
08:17of those three cars
08:18going well.
08:19Behind him is Tom Chilton
08:20in the Honda
08:21and then the second
08:22of the Seats
08:23that's being driven
08:24by Rob Huff.
08:25Plato really aggressive
08:26on the first lap.
08:27He stated his intentions
08:28straight away.
08:29That was a really good
08:30first lap.
08:31He's already got five wins
08:33under his belt
08:33as you say.
08:34He's now looking
08:35for number six.
08:36Yeah, he was superb
08:37into this corner
08:38clearways.
08:39Watson-Smith now.
08:40This is where he said to me
08:41that they're struggling
08:42a little bit for traction
08:43out of this corner.
08:44Anthony Reid is into the pit.
08:46Anthony Reid,
08:46the man who's had
08:47such a successful run
08:49coming into this meeting
08:50at both Croft
08:51and Knock Hill.
08:52He won two races
08:53at Knock Hill
08:53but he's not going
08:54to go well here.
08:56Tom Chilton
08:56coming into Paddock-Hilben.
08:57There was a bit of a lock-up
08:58from one of the cars
08:59ahead of him
08:59but nobody in trouble.
09:01There's top three
09:01still coming through.
09:03It is Plato
09:04from Colin Turkington
09:05to the youngster,
09:06the Irishman in the MG,
09:07the black car in second place
09:09and in third place
09:10the South African
09:10Sean Watson-Smith
09:11driving for Proton.
09:13They're in there last season.
09:14We know that
09:15but he'd love to go out
09:16on a high.
09:16Here's a repeat of the start.
09:18You can see Turkington
09:19gets the good start.
09:20Plato has to move over
09:21straight away
09:21but doesn't quite close the gap.
09:23Eventually gets across
09:24in front of Sean Watson-Smith.
09:26Behind is Heinz
09:27actually being tapped out
09:28by Muller.
09:29It's Muller that tapped out.
09:31There'll be some argument
09:33in the VX Racing team.
09:34Here's a return shot
09:35looking back.
09:36Well, that was a good start
09:37by Watson-Smith.
09:38He had a bit of momentum
09:39and he's trying to get up
09:40alongside Plato
09:41who you're on board with.
09:42Can't quite find the room.
09:45No, but Watson-Smith
09:46certainly got in front
09:47of Thompson, didn't he?
09:48Now somebody just
09:49also, yeah,
09:50that was through Paddock Hill,
09:52Ben there.
09:52You can see they ran
09:53just a touch wide
09:53but they all got through
09:54the first corner.
09:55Now we're back
09:56with the action
09:56and there's Anthony Reid.
09:58I'm afraid no activity for him.
10:00He's being pushed away.
10:00The man who scored
10:01maximum points
10:02at the last meeting
10:03out of anybody
10:05at Knock Hill
10:05came into this meeting
10:07only 23 points behind.
10:08Really wanted to get
10:09on level terms.
10:10It hasn't happened.
10:11The disastrous weekend
10:12so far for Anthony Reid.
10:14That's very disappointing
10:15but for Jason Plato
10:16things looking good
10:17at the moment
10:18you have to say
10:18the second Seat there,
10:20number 12.
10:20That is Rob Huff,
10:21the youngster
10:22who won his chance
10:23to race in British touring cars
10:24this year
10:25by winning the Seat
10:26Cupra Championship
10:27last year
10:27and he's been a star
10:29of the show
10:29there's no doubt.
10:29The first meeting
10:30at Brandt Hatch
10:31at April.
10:32He was the driver
10:33of the day
10:33on that occasion.
10:34Had a great
10:35second place finish
10:36and now he's trying
10:37to put the pressure
10:38on another youngster
10:38Tom Chilton.
10:39He's...
10:40Oh and Sean Watson-Smith
10:41lost it on the exit
10:42of Paddock Hill Bend
10:43into the gravel.
10:44Oh what a shame.
10:46They were wrong
10:46for their best result
10:47of the season
10:48and Watson-Smith
10:50has lost it
10:51on the exit
10:51of Paddock Hill Bend
10:52and that's going to be
10:53a huge disappointment
10:54to the team.
10:56That moves Chilton
10:57up to third now
10:58so the group there
10:59just behind
11:00that's Chilton in third
11:01and Rob Huff alongside
11:02they bang wings
11:03as they turn into 30s
11:05and Rob Huff
11:05has got third.
11:06Well Rob Huff
11:07he's got more weight
11:08on his car
11:09than teammate
11:10Jason Plato.
11:11Plato with the lightest
11:12ballast success
11:14on the car
11:15minus 24 kilos
11:16Rob Huff on zero
11:17making a really good
11:18reaction of it.
11:20Here's a replay
11:20of Dan Eves
11:21getting up the inside
11:23of Michael Bedwood
11:24into Paddock.
11:25That was a good
11:26clean move.
11:27Dan Eves let's remember
11:27started at the back
11:28of the field.
11:29Yes he had a lot
11:30of work to do
11:31as a result of that
11:32and Dan Eves
11:33is actually up
11:33to ninth place now.
11:34That's pretty remarkable
11:35I have to say.
11:36It's a very very
11:38good effort indeed.
11:38You can see
11:39Farid Keriman
11:39just going slowly.
11:40There's Bedwood.
11:41Collard and Carl Brees
11:42there side by side.
11:44Carl Brees
11:44who had one of the fastest
11:45laps, the fifth fastest
11:46lap in race one
11:48but he started
11:48right at the back
11:49so he wasn't able
11:50to do a huge amount.
11:51There is poor
11:52Anthony Reid
11:53getting out
11:54of his car
11:55and from the delights
11:56of Knock Hill
11:57it's the disappointments
11:58here at Brandt Hatch
12:00for the veteran.
12:01Out in front
12:02in this race
12:03it's Jason Plato.
12:04The safety car
12:05has been called.
12:06The safety car
12:07is going to be
12:07coming on circuit.
12:09They want to try
12:10and get a couple
12:10of cars out of the way
12:11particularly the Proton
12:13of Sean Watson Smith
12:14and that means
12:15they will all
12:15bunch up together
12:17once more.
12:18There will be nothing
12:19to choose between them.
12:19There the safety car
12:20waves through
12:21John George
12:22picks up the race leader
12:23and it is
12:24Jason Plato now
12:26who will cruise around
12:27in the lead of this race
12:28with Colin Turkington
12:29Rob Hough
12:30Tom Chilton
12:30James Thompson
12:32and also in there
12:33Matt Neill
12:34and Matt Neill
12:34a good couple of first laps
12:36I have to say
12:36sixth position for him
12:37carrying maximum ballast
12:39not a bad effort at all
12:40in the orange Honda.
12:42Well it's all been
12:43happening already Tim
12:43let's take a look back
12:44at some of
12:45what has been going on
12:46I think this is going
12:47to be Sean Watson Smith
12:48just getting probably
12:49a little bit wide
12:50at Brands
12:51getting some dirt
12:52on the rear tyres
12:52loses it backwards
12:54there's no coming back
12:55from that
12:56the car just
12:56pendulums round
12:57he's on the brakes
12:59and beaches it
13:00in the gravel
13:00so disappointment
13:01from Sean Watson Smith
13:03throwing away
13:04third place.
13:05A great shame
13:06for the team
13:07they've put so much
13:08effort in this year
13:09it was announced
13:10recently that Proton
13:11will not be returning
13:12again in 2005
13:14and would have been
13:15wonderful with just
13:16this meeting
13:17and two more meetings
13:18to complete this season
13:19for them to have
13:19earned a podium finish
13:21but it's not to be
13:23there we are
13:23just behind Tom Chilton
13:25we're riding
13:26with James Thompson here
13:27now in terms of
13:28the championship
13:29for Thompson
13:30things are looking
13:31up a little bit
13:32remember coming into
13:33this race
13:33he was three points
13:34behind Ivan Muller
13:35Muller is two places
13:37behind Thompson
13:38neither of them
13:39are going to get
13:40high scores
13:40if they stay where
13:41they are
13:42but it would bring
13:43things together
13:43and into the pits
13:44is Stefan Hodgett
13:45the team has done
13:47miraculous work
13:48to get this car
13:49back out
13:49and maybe there
13:50are still problems
13:50well they're immediately
13:51looking at the left front
13:52which is where the damage
13:53was so I guess
13:54that something's
13:55not quite straight
13:56he's obviously
13:57can feel a problem
13:58in the car
13:59and decide to check it
14:00before going any further
14:01but he's out of the race
14:02there's on board
14:03with current race leader
14:05Jason Plato
14:06keeping his tyres warm
14:07the safety car
14:09is probably going to be
14:10in this lap
14:11there's no danger now
14:13the lights are out
14:14so the safety car
14:14will be in
14:15everybody needs to
14:16bunch up as close
14:17Jason will he hold
14:18the cars back
14:19until accelerating
14:20across the start
14:21finish line
14:21or will he go
14:22as soon as he gets
14:23out of clearways
14:24let's watch and see
14:25but Turkington needs
14:26to be up on his game
14:27to get a good restart
14:28behind him
14:29Jason Plato
14:30even before this race
14:32meeting began
14:33has led twice
14:34the number of laps
14:35that any other driver
14:36has so far this year
14:38so Plato
14:39has done brilliantly
14:40particularly in these
14:41second races
14:42he will not throw away
14:43an advantage like this
14:44too easily
14:44but the youngster
14:45Colin Turkington
14:46has driven superbly
14:47particularly here
14:48at Brands Hatch
14:49he'll feel confident
14:50Plato playing games
14:52and away we go now
14:53accelerating away
14:54and Colin Turkington
14:55is the meat
14:56in the Seat sandwich
14:57now because Rob Huff
14:58is immediately behind him
14:59then it's Chiltern
15:00chased by James Thompson
15:02Thompson the 2002 champion
15:04here comes Rob Huff
15:05trying to get on the inside
15:07to take second
15:08but Colin Turkington
15:09crossed over to the inside
15:11make sure he had that line
15:12covered
15:12and behind them
15:14it's side by side
15:15action down the hill
15:16too with Chiltern
15:16and James Thompson
15:18are busy fighting
15:19over the fourth position
15:21Rob Huff
15:22having got that third place
15:24now
15:24and Thompson now
15:25got the inside line
15:26for Surtees
15:26this could be
15:27Thompson through
15:28yes he's got the line
15:29this time
15:29and James Thompson
15:30takes fourth
15:31good restart
15:32oh as Chiltern
15:33tries to get on the inside
15:34but doesn't manage it
15:35good restart by Plato
15:36that was
15:37held the team back
15:38now he's got his teammate
15:39in third place
15:40fresh rising Turkington
15:41and that will help him
15:42get away as well
15:43now Matt Neill
15:44battle of Hondas
15:45side by side
15:46Chiltern with some damage
15:47on the left rear
15:48Matt Neill is able
15:49to breeze past him
15:50despite having the
15:51full weight of
15:52maximum success ballast
15:53and Kay goes through
15:54three Hondas
15:55running together there
15:56yeah but Tom Chiltern
15:58is obviously in trouble
15:59he's still trying to
16:00defend his position
16:01but it's getting harder
16:02and harder to do that
16:03up at the hairpin
16:04meanwhile we've just
16:04heard from the pits
16:05that Anthony Reid
16:06had suspension damage
16:08as a result of
16:09contact from a Vauxhall
16:10I don't know if we
16:11know who it was
16:12but that's why
16:13Reid is out
16:13meanwhile Danny
16:14is trying to slip down
16:15the inside
16:16of Rob Collard
16:17in the silver car
16:18there is third place
16:19man Rob Hutt
16:20these top three
16:21definitely now
16:22breaking away
16:23from the rest of them
16:24it's James Thompson
16:25lying in fourth
16:26leading the next group
16:27there's Ivan Muller
16:27and Muller lies
16:29down in eighth place
16:30now he could do
16:31with picking off
16:32a couple of those
16:32cars ahead of him
16:33Chiltern still
16:34trailing smoke
16:35and he's got
16:36Michael Bentwood
16:37now behind him
16:38and Carl Brees
16:39those are the next
16:40two that will try
16:41and come through
16:42Chiltern down in
16:43eighth place now
16:43and Bentwood
16:44looking for a way
16:45past
16:45oh and Chiltern
16:47running wide there
16:48just got an
16:49oversteer on
16:49that was exactly
16:50the same as
16:51the problem
16:52that well
16:53locked up as well
16:54there at the front
16:54but that looked
16:55like a start
16:56the same problem
16:57that happened to
16:57Sean Watson-Smith
16:58has now stalled
17:00the car
17:00so a lot of
17:01problems going on
17:01there
17:01Paddock Hill
17:02Ben we know
17:03it's very dirty
17:04on the outside
17:04a lot of cars
17:05taking the inside
17:06line
17:06but just
17:07it's so tempting
17:08to run a little bit
17:09wide
17:09get a better run
17:10through
17:10but you can see
17:11you lose grip
17:12on the left rear
17:12if you do
17:13he has managed
17:14to restart
17:15let me tell you
17:15so that won't
17:16bring the safety
17:17car out again
17:17take another look
17:18at this
17:18yeah he's carried
17:19a lot of speed
17:20in there
17:20and the car
17:21is sliding
17:21he may have
17:22a slow puncture
17:23obviously
17:23on that left rear
17:24there may be
17:25other reasons
17:25for it
17:25then very bizarrely
17:27as he comes
17:27back onto the track
17:28he locks the front
17:29up so I'm not
17:30sure about that
17:31but clearly
17:32big problems
17:32for Tom Chiltern
17:33Jason Plato
17:35continues to lead
17:36though he's got
17:36a useful little
17:37half second or so
17:38advantage over
17:39Colin Turkington
17:39it's behind him
17:41really that all
17:41the racing's going
17:42on
17:42there's Ivan Muller
17:43with the red
17:44windscreen strip
17:45and the red and
17:45white to Vauxhall
17:46Astra
17:47and he's currently
17:48running in
17:48seventh position
17:49but he could do
17:50with getting past
17:51James Kay
17:52who's having a
17:52great run
17:53Chiltern into the
17:53pit
17:54no great surprise
17:55there
17:55and I'm not sure
17:57we'll see him
17:58back out or not
17:58we're on board
17:59now with second
18:00place driver
18:01Colin Turkington
18:02up into clearways
18:03and this is where
18:04it's so important
18:04to get on the
18:05power well
18:06yeah front wheel
18:06drive car obviously
18:07tries to spin up
18:08the inside wheel
18:09there turning right
18:10and over a crest
18:11but the cars
18:12have got such
18:13good traction
18:13it is vital
18:14because they're
18:14flat out down
18:15this straight
18:16up to 130 miles
18:17an hour
18:18but it's vital
18:18that they don't
18:19wear that inside
18:20front tyre too
18:21much as well
18:21so careful setup
18:22required
18:23but nothing to
18:24choose between
18:25the front three
18:25Plato, Turkington
18:26and Huff
18:27all posting
18:28virtually exactly
18:29the same lap times
18:29and the gap
18:30very static
18:31yeah Plato
18:32yeah Plato doing
18:33everything required
18:34of him at the
18:35moment
18:35further back
18:36you can see
18:36the battles
18:37going on
18:38there's Dan Eves
18:38coming through
18:39he's running
18:39in 11th place
18:40in car number 4
18:41the second of the
18:42orange Hondas
18:43he was the one
18:44that had the fire
18:44earlier on remember
18:45so it's good to see
18:46that car is running
18:47okay
18:48the mechanics
18:49have done a fantastic
18:50job to get him
18:50back out
18:51he's trying to get
18:51past the independent
18:53champion from last
18:54year
18:54that's Rob Collard
18:55in the silver
18:56Voxelastra
18:56there is Rob Collard
18:57he had a huge dice
18:59with Jason Hughes
18:59earlier on
19:00and ahead of them
19:01both is Carl Breeze
19:02who switched from
19:04driving the Alfa Romeo
19:05to driving the Voxel
19:06of GA Motorsports
19:08this weekend
19:08top three
19:09over the line
19:10once again
19:1013 laps
19:11have been completed
19:13and that leaves
19:1413 to go
19:14we've got a revised
19:15race distance now
19:16of 26 laps
19:17in this one
19:18so half distance
19:19completed
19:19and the Seats
19:21are looking very good
19:22up front at the moment
19:23but Turkington
19:24in the party too
19:25and there we are
19:26looking back
19:27from Jason Plato
19:28at second place
19:29man Colin Turkington
19:30he has a great shot
19:31that the car's
19:32just running
19:33wide there
19:34onto the exit
19:34of the kerb
19:35trying to get
19:36maximum traction
19:37front wheel drive
19:37the cars do
19:38spin up the wheels
19:39if they get too wide
19:40coming out of Graham Hill
19:41and then through
19:42the really fast
19:4230s
19:43just locking up
19:44the inside wheel
19:45that comes off
19:45the ground
19:46there no real damage
19:47sometimes you see
19:48tyre smoke
19:49from that inside wheel
19:49but it really is
19:50only kissing the ground
19:51doesn't do too much damage
19:52but believe me
19:53these guys are driving
19:54absolutely flat out
19:56maximum attack
19:57every lap
19:57yeah and this is
19:59working well for
20:00Seat at the moment
20:01isn't it
20:01because they've got
20:02their two cars
20:03in possible
20:04podium finishing
20:06positions here
20:07and Seat have had
20:08such a strong
20:09debut season
20:10in the British
20:11Touring cars
20:11who are on board
20:12with Jason Plato
20:12that is the race leader
20:13working hard
20:14behind the wheel
20:15up through the gears
20:16on that sequential
20:17shift gearbox
20:18all the cars
20:19having to run
20:19the same gearbox
20:20it's one of the parts
20:21of British Touring cars
20:22that must be
20:22the same
20:23across the board
20:24remember
20:25all these cars
20:26are based
20:26on their road
20:27going cousins
20:28they are
20:29standard production
20:29body shells
20:30that are then
20:31taken by the teams
20:32modified in certain
20:33ways
20:34but they have
20:35to have an awful
20:35lot of the original
20:36car in that chassis
20:38particularly
20:39lots of standard
20:39parts like the gearbox
20:40like the brakes
20:41and the engine
20:42has to come
20:43the basis of the engine
20:44has to come
20:44from one of their
20:45road car engines
20:46as well
20:46yes believe me
20:47there's an awful
20:48lot of tuning
20:49goes into making
20:50those parts
20:50a lot faster
20:51these cars
20:53probably three times
20:54as quick
20:54round a lap
20:55than an ordinary
20:56car
20:57very very fast
20:58considering that
20:59they're only
20:59two litre engines
21:00but nearly 300
21:01horsepower
21:02from those engines
21:03a quite incredible
21:04achievement
21:04over the line
21:06now so
21:06Richard Marsh
21:07there you can just
21:07see on the inside
21:08that's Richard Marsh
21:09having his first
21:10race weekend
21:10in the orange
21:11Peugeot
21:11Collard
21:12into the gravel
21:13there's been a
21:13pushing and barging
21:14match going on
21:15at the hairpin
21:16there and it's
21:16poor Rob Collard
21:17who's paid the price
21:18Luke Hines
21:19with bits of bodywork
21:20dangling
21:20from the back
21:21of his car
21:22there's Carl Breeze
21:22and Dan Eves
21:23in there too
21:24well that was
21:24the battle
21:25that we were
21:26watching earlier
21:27between
21:27here we see
21:28the report
21:28well Carl Breeze
21:29is up the inside
21:30Eves is into
21:31the back of Collard
21:32we really need
21:33to see what
21:33happened before that
21:34that's a shame
21:35for Rob
21:35he was having
21:35a good race
21:36and it was
21:36an excellent battle
21:38Dan Eves
21:38who started
21:39right at the back
21:40remember
21:40but with no weight
21:41on his car
21:42took advantage
21:43of the first
21:43lap kerfuffle
21:46at Paddock
21:46looks like we're
21:47going to have
21:47another safety car
21:48this will help
21:49them close up again
21:50but Dan Eves is
21:50potentially on for
21:51a very good result
21:52here
21:52yes he's working
21:54his way up the
21:54order isn't he
21:55currently though
21:56running in 11th place
21:57still after that
21:58little incident
21:59so he didn't really
21:59gain from that
22:00safety car
22:01back on circuit
22:02and we mentioned
22:04earlier on
22:05Paul O'Neill
22:05driving that
22:06safety car
22:07here today
22:07a man who knows
22:08this Brands Hatch
22:09circuit well
22:10in a touring car
22:11and a race winner
22:12of course
22:13in touring cars
22:14had a little incident
22:15with MacNeill here
22:16a few years ago
22:17when he just got
22:18pushed out
22:18of a possible win
22:20at Brands Hatch
22:21there's Jason Plato
22:21though
22:22and at the moment
22:23everything is
22:24pretty much
22:25under control
22:25for him
22:26well he must be
22:27sick to death
22:27of the sight
22:28of the safety car
22:29every time he gets
22:30out in the lead
22:31there's a problem
22:31with the safety car
22:32coming out
22:33and he loses
22:34that lead advantage
22:35but he's already
22:36had one good restart
22:37in this race
22:38and he knows
22:38how to play it
22:39slowly up to the line
22:40floor it when you're ready
22:42and he will be
22:42the first car
22:43back into paddock
22:44but it does mean
22:45that the whole field
22:46bunches up again
22:47and it'll give
22:48everybody a renewed
22:49lease of life
22:49Turkington and Huff
22:50especially
22:51now we're going to
22:52see if we can have
22:53a quick word
22:53with Jason
22:54see if the system's
22:55working
22:55Ben to Jason
22:57Ben
22:57Jason can you hear us
22:58yeah go ahead
23:00Ben
23:01yeah Jason
23:02things going
23:02pretty well
23:03for you at the
23:04moment
23:04but the safety
23:04car's busy
23:05this afternoon
23:06yeah I don't
23:09know if that's
23:09you know
23:10because we're
23:11out in front
23:11we seem to have
23:12a fair few of
23:12them
23:13but you know
23:13there is a car
23:14up in a dodging
23:14spot so
23:15you know
23:16what can you say
23:17we've just got
23:17to work a bit
23:18harder
23:18the only thing
23:18is the safety
23:19car's going
23:20a bit slow
23:20at the moment
23:21which is not
23:22good for
23:23pick up
23:24and debris
23:24on the tyres
23:25so we've got
23:25to try and
23:25keep our tyres
23:26as free as we can
23:27what do you
23:28reckon the challenge
23:29from Turkington
23:29is going to be like
23:30in the remainder
23:30of this race
23:31what do you reckon
23:34do you think
23:35Colin Turkington
23:36is going to be
23:36able to put you
23:37under much pressure
23:37in the remainder
23:38of the race
23:38oh yeah
23:40I think Colin's
23:41I think the pace
23:43at the moment
23:43is pretty even
23:44it just depends
23:45on their tyres
23:47in the initial
23:48part of the race
23:48and I've been
23:49pushing pretty hard
23:50I must imagine
23:50I must admit
23:51but at least Rob's
23:52keeping him on his
23:53either way
23:55you know
23:55win, lose or draw
23:56we're going to have
23:57a great race
23:57for the remainder
23:58of the day
23:59great
24:00thanks very much
24:00Jason
24:01best of luck
24:01with the remainder
24:02of this one
24:03so there is
24:06the work going on
24:07to try and get
24:07Rob Collard's car
24:09out of the gravel
24:10another look at this
24:10one
24:10well in fact it was
24:12Breeze in front
24:13of Collard
24:14getting pushed
24:15and then as Rob
24:16tries to go through
24:18Carl still trying
24:19to correct the car
24:20tags him
24:20and I have to say
24:22that was probably
24:22more Rob's fault
24:23than anyone else's
24:24although we're not
24:25sure exactly
24:26how Carl got in
24:28that position
24:28in the first place
24:29but certainly
24:29Rob trying to get
24:31through
24:31and getting pushed
24:32out
24:32and trying to take
24:34advantage of his
24:35own actions
24:35yeah Carl
24:36Breeze
24:37has had a bit
24:38of a busy weekend
24:39he actually crashed
24:40up that hill
24:41even before they
24:41got into their
24:42hairpin yesterday
24:42as they went out
24:43for qualifying
24:44he tangled with
24:45Farik Ehriman
24:45didn't set a lap
24:46at all in the
24:47session yesterday
24:48so he's been on
24:49the back foot
24:49ever since
24:50and trying to
24:51catch up
24:51I have to say
24:52though he's
24:52going quickly
24:53he's up to
24:5410th place
24:54in this
24:55oh John George
24:55is off as well
24:56that's the LPG
24:57powered car
24:58he's switched
25:00cars
25:00he's not too happy
25:01is he
25:01poor John George
25:03he's one of the
25:03enthusiastic amateurs
25:05that race in this
25:05championship
25:06you get a mix
25:06in this series
25:07of the salaried
25:09professionals
25:09the up and comers
25:10who are trying
25:11to prove themselves
25:11and you get
25:12the enthusiastic
25:13amateurs
25:13John's one of those
25:14he's usually
25:15I have to say
25:16one of the most
25:16cheerful men
25:17in the paddock
25:17but he ain't
25:18happy right now
25:19I think it's
25:19there's nothing worse
25:21for a driver
25:22than retirement
25:22because when you're
25:24driving the car
25:25your emotions
25:25are high
25:26you're really
25:27on the edge
25:27of your reflexes
25:29and all of a sudden
25:30bang it's stopped
25:31the driver gets out
25:32total waste of time
25:33and that's a typical
25:35reaction
25:35yeah very disappointing
25:37for John George
25:37he's enjoying that
25:38driving that Peugeot
25:39Coupe though
25:40it's certainly going
25:41well and he's just
25:42hoping that it will
25:43continue that way
25:44but obviously not
25:44this time
25:45so let's just remind
25:46you of how things
25:47stand at the moment
25:48Jason Plato leads
25:49them around behind
25:49the safety car
25:5019 laps have been
25:51completed
25:52and they've got
25:54about 8 laps
25:55still to do
25:55behind him is
25:57Colin Turkington
25:57then Rob Huff
25:58and James Thompson
25:59now Thompson
26:00in 4th position
26:01just going through
26:02the pitch
26:02he's got the white
26:03band across his
26:04windscreen
26:04is still 2 places
26:06ahead of
26:06Ivan Muller
26:07so with Thompson
26:09in 4th place
26:10at the moment
26:11that would give him
26:118 points
26:12and with Muller
26:13down in 7th place
26:14that would give him
26:154 points
26:16it would mean that
26:17into the lead
26:19of the championship
26:20by 1 single point
26:22it's just been
26:23so close
26:23all year long
26:24which is of course
26:24the margin by which
26:25they came into this meeting
26:27but a long way to go
26:28and at the moment
26:30we see Rob Collard
26:31trying to explain
26:32how it was not
26:33his fault at all
26:33of course
26:34as every driver thinks
26:36always the other
26:37person's fault
26:38but the lights are out
26:39on the safety car
26:40that means they'll be
26:41restarting at the end
26:42of this lap
26:43I'm sure it'll be
26:44the same format
26:45from Jason Plato
26:45bunch everybody up
26:47slowly up to the line
26:48accelerate when he's
26:49good and ready
26:50yep this is
26:51we've seen Jason
26:52do this once already
26:53to great effect
26:54Turkington though
26:54well can he find
26:56a bit more pace
26:57from the MG
26:57the black and silver MG
26:58there in second place
26:59he's going past an area
27:00of track the south bank
27:01as it's known
27:02there's a whole collection
27:03of MGs along there
27:04the MG car club
27:05or whichever group it is
27:06they've got a whole host
27:07of MGs along there
27:08they're giving him
27:09plenty of support
27:09and after the disasters
27:11of the first race
27:12well there's a definite
27:13podium on the cards here
27:15but will it be
27:15a race victory
27:16there is Jason Plato
27:18once again
27:18he will try and time
27:20this restart to perfection
27:21here they come out
27:22of clearways
27:23you're on board
27:23with the second place man
27:24now then
27:25what's Jason going to do
27:26is he going to go quick
27:27oh he breaks
27:28breaks breaks
27:28slows it down
27:29slows it down
27:29and then goes
27:30as he gets to the line
27:32trying to catch
27:32Turkington out
27:33but Turkington's
27:34up for that
27:35and he goes with him
27:36Huff goes with him
27:36to Thompson
27:37and then it's
27:38Dan
27:39sorry Matt Neal
27:40oh and there's contact
27:41there Muller could be
27:42in trouble
27:42he's got to be careful
27:43and the outside
27:44there was Michael
27:45Benford trying to
27:46squeeze through
27:46the inside
27:47the last thing
27:48that Muller needs
27:49is to be losing places
27:50and to be muscled out
27:51by one of the privateers
27:53and he has been
27:54it's Michael
27:54Benford trying to
27:55squeeze him out
27:55but the Frenchman
27:56comes back down
27:57the inside
27:58he's not going to have it
27:59he won't
28:00oh but he has to
28:01accept it in the end
28:02Benford has got past
28:04Ivan Muller
28:04well very brave
28:05racing by Benford
28:06and look at this
28:07Turkington under
28:08huge pressure
28:09from Huff
28:09but that's great
28:11that's just what
28:11Jason will want to
28:12see in his mirrors
28:13isn't it
28:14Muller being stuffed
28:15by the young gun
28:16there
28:16and it's absolutely
28:19great racing
28:19but Muller will be
28:20fuming
28:21he doesn't want
28:21competition from
28:22his own teammates
28:23although it was he
28:24that pushed Heinz out
28:25on the first lap
28:26of the race
28:26further back
28:28we've got Eves
28:28alongside
28:29Eves has got past
28:31Heinz finally
28:32yeah indeed
28:33and look at we're
28:34on board with
28:34James Thompson
28:35there it's all
28:35getting pretty tight
28:36as Rob Huff
28:37tries to take
28:37second place
28:38from Turkington
28:39you're riding with
28:40Thompson right now
28:41the 2002 champion
28:42I don't know
28:43might have lost
28:45another place
28:45it helps Thompson
28:46of course
28:47but it's a real
28:47seesaw battle
28:48in the championship
28:49and Thompson himself
28:50has taken this
28:51restart pretty well
28:52and he's in the mix
28:53there trying to
28:54get into a podium
28:55finish himself
28:56there is Thompson
28:57you just caught a
28:57flash of him
28:58in the red and white
28:58Voxelastra
28:59with that white
29:00windscreen strip
29:01he's got right
29:01behind him though
29:02the winner of the
29:03first race of the day
29:04Matt Neal
29:04carrying lots of
29:05ballast
29:06but that Honda
29:07is going extremely
29:08well I have to say
29:09and whoa
29:10and the Peugeot's
29:11out
29:11that's Richard Marsh
29:12in the number 40 car
29:14hopefully that won't
29:15cause the safety car
29:16to come out
29:16he's a reasonably
29:17reasonable distance
29:19away from the track
29:20there as he's gone off
29:20as the lead has
29:21come through Paddock
29:22Richard Marsh
29:23another driver
29:23to change cars
29:24he's dropped out
29:25of his ETCC spec
29:26Honda
29:27and jumped into
29:28one of last year's
29:29Peugeot 307s
29:30in BTC spec
29:31and he's certainly
29:32enjoying that car
29:33a lot more modern
29:34and a lot more racy
29:35I think than the car
29:36he's been driving before
29:36nothing like a safety car
29:38to spice everybody up
29:39is there
29:40everyone time to
29:41regroup behind the
29:42safety car
29:42think about some
29:43tactics
29:43and really like
29:44the fuse
29:46when the safety car
29:47goes in
29:48and we've already
29:48seen some action
29:49so Plato
29:50is comfortably
29:51leading this race
29:52again
29:53there's a look
29:53back at Luke
29:54Hines
29:54he's currently
29:55running in 10th place
29:56but remember
29:57the line up
29:58for race 3
29:59this afternoon
30:00is as they finish
30:01this second race
30:02there's no reverse
30:02grid going on
30:03whoever wins
30:04this race
30:05will end up
30:06on pole position
30:07for the third race
30:08of the day
30:08and you can see
30:09the orange car
30:10of Dan Eves
30:10again putting a bit
30:12of pressure
30:12on Ivan Muller
30:13Muller having been
30:14beat
30:14Muller's wide
30:15Muller's wide
30:16and Eves has got
30:17an overlap
30:17can he get
30:18up alongside
30:19before Muller
30:20pulls over
30:20I think he can
30:21don't forget
30:22Muller's carrying
30:23a lot of ballast
30:23in this race
30:24and this is the
30:25effect
30:25when he loses
30:26momentum
30:27he can't stop
30:28going backwards
30:29because the other
30:30cars without much
30:30ballast are in a
30:31better situation
30:32he comes back
30:32down the inside
30:33oh he's having
30:34to work so hard
30:35at this
30:35but Eves will have
30:36a go at getting
30:36back alongside
30:37towards Surtees
30:38Muller defends
30:39that position
30:40and Muller
30:41carrying
30:4132 kilos
30:4330 kilos of ballast
30:44is finding it
30:45very hard work
30:46out there
30:47this is the rules
30:48of British Touring
30:49Car Racing
30:49the face of
30:50British Touring
30:50Car Racing
30:512004
30:52reverse grid
30:54success ballast
30:55it certainly
30:55makes for
30:56fantastic racing
30:57and we're seeing
30:58here at brands
30:58where the grid
30:59initially was
31:00covered in
31:00qualifying by
31:01only one second
31:02covering 16 cars
31:04the success ballast
31:05really does
31:06penalise you
31:07just a quick
31:08mention of
31:09James Kaye
31:09he's holding
31:10on to 6th place
31:11just there
31:11with the red
31:12and silver car
31:12you saw it
31:13come up
31:13into the hairpin
31:14and he's having
31:15a fantastic
31:16weekend
31:16so far
31:17they had a
31:174th place finish
31:18earlier on
31:18he's got
31:19ballast on board
31:20he's still there
31:20in the top 6
31:21but look at the
31:22raging battle
31:23that's going on here
31:24Luke Hines now
31:25with Tom Chilton
31:26right behind him
31:27Chilton running
31:27in 13th place
31:29he'll be disappointed
31:30with that
31:30he loves this
31:31Brantac circuit
31:31it's his nearest
31:33circuit really
31:34comes from near
31:34Reigate in Surrey
31:35so not too far away
31:37from Brantac
31:38and he would love
31:39to try and score
31:39some more points
31:40I can just see
31:41out of our
31:41commentary box window
31:42Carl Breeze
31:43going very slowly
31:44so it looks as though
31:45Carl Breeze is in trouble
31:47but on to the last lap
31:48go the race leaders
31:49it's Plato
31:50from Turkington
31:51and Rob Huff
31:52that's the top 3
31:54and the question really is
31:55can Rob Huff do anything here
31:56to take 2nd place
31:58he's going to have a try
31:59I'm sure
31:59but Turkington has it covered
32:01Plato's got this one
32:02in the bag
32:02but Huff isn't finished
32:03he'd love to make it
32:04yet another
32:05Seat 1-2
32:06pick up at a bonus money
32:07he's not finished yet
32:08his last chance
32:09is going to be up
32:10the inside
32:10into clear ways
32:12but I'm absolutely sure
32:13that Turkington's
32:14going to cover it
32:15and Turkington
32:15has almost caught up
32:17with the back of Plato
32:18but I'm sure Plato's
32:19just bringing this one
32:20home nicely
32:20yeah he's just got to
32:21get through the final
32:22corner here
32:23Turkington
32:24is he going to get
32:25a push from Huff
32:26no that's where
32:27Turkington was pushed
32:28by Bentwood earlier
32:29on today
32:29but out of the last
32:30corner
32:31it's win number 6
32:33of the season
32:34for Jason Plato
32:35an absolutely
32:36superb performance
32:37once again
32:38race 2
32:38is Plato territory
32:39there's no doubt
32:40Turkington takes second
32:41Huff takes third
32:42James Thompson
32:43takes fourth
32:44and more importantly
32:45there are three cars
32:47between James Thompson
32:48and Ivan Muller
32:49and that will give
32:50James Thompson
32:51the narrow championship
32:52advantage
32:52I mentioned Carl Brees
32:54was in trouble
32:54there's your confirmation
32:56it's a flapping
32:56punctured right front tyre
32:58and he's going to be
33:00making it back to the pits
33:01presumably
33:01well he's got no tyre
33:02on the left at all
33:03and a puncture on the right
33:06but Jason Plato
33:07success in race 2
33:09six victories
33:10and yet more laps
33:12led to add to his
33:12already dominant list
33:13let's try and talk to
33:15Jason again
33:15Ben to Jason
33:17Jason many congratulations
33:18another victory
33:19it's getting goodness
33:21I have to say
33:23big thanks to the team
33:24really
33:25I know I've thanked them
33:25every time
33:25but we were in
33:26we were in trouble
33:27after the first race
33:28we had a lot of
33:29understeer in the car
33:30and Eddie Inksy
33:31my engineer
33:31and the mechanics
33:32did a published job
33:33and we took a bit of a
33:34gamble and changed
33:34quite a few things
33:35on the car
33:36and I have to say
33:37it was superb
33:38the car was great
33:39for the first few laps
33:40so yeah
33:40another win
33:41thanks very much Jason
33:43we'll see you again later
33:44so the great result
33:46for Jason Plato
33:48and Colin Turkington
33:50takes second place
33:51ahead of Rob Huff
33:52so a very very important
33:54race that for Seat
33:56James Thompson though
33:57holding on to take
33:58fourth place
33:59and Matt Neill
34:00taking fifth
34:01ahead of James Kay
34:02Michael Bentwood
34:04got a good finish there
34:04in seventh
34:05ahead of Ivan Muller
34:06in eighth place
34:07Dan Eves in ninth
34:09Luke Hines in tenth
34:10Tim another fantastic race
34:12and more to look forward
34:13to later of course
34:14Jason Plato
34:15doesn't make a mistake
34:16when he's given
34:17an opportunity like that
34:18he is the master
34:19he is a former champion
34:20you can put him
34:21under pressure
34:21but he's absolutely
34:23ice cool
34:23he manages to drive
34:25his laps to within
34:26a tenth of a second
34:27every time
34:27and he deserves to win
34:29but MG can come back
34:31they've come back
34:31with second place
34:32let's see what they
34:33can do later
