00:01The UN's top human rights body has approved, without a vote, a measure condemning escalating
00:07violence in Sudan. It urges for greater international support for refugees and calls for an end
00:13to all external interference in the conflict.
00:15Unless we deal decisively with the foreign interference of those who have an interest
00:19in fueling the conflict through the provision of political, financial and military support,
00:25including through the provision of drones and the deployment of guns for hire, we will
00:29be unable to effectively silence the guns. This, in turn, will undermine our ability
00:34to protect the people of El Obeid, and indeed Sudan. In this regard, we must hold all parties
00:40accountable. Those who aid and abat them in perpetrating their crimes are equally complicit.
00:47We would therefore have liked this aspect of the resolution to be stronger, since this
00:52lies at the very heart of the prolonged hostilities.
00:54El Obeid, a vital humanitarian hub in Sudan, has become the latest battleground in the
01:00country's civil war. Months of siege and escalating drone attacks have killed civilians, destroyed
01:08critical infrastructure, and triggered severe shortages of fuel and clean water.
