00:00Hello and welcome to this Victorian Jane's weather update for Friday. We have got a strong cold front that is barrelling towards the southeast. I want to point out the speckled cloud that is here over the bite. That indicates some very chilly air that is about to come in. We had some lovely stretches of weather. You may have thought, have we turned a corner? The spring-like weather? Has spring come early? I'm here to tell you that no, indeed it is not. We've got this cold outbreak that's coming and it is settling in for the weekend.
00:27So, we do have some severe weather warnings for Friday before the cold front arrives. So, that's gusty conditions, mainly about our elevated parts. But really, it's the cold air that is in behind this that we're going to feel the most. Let's have a look at day by day, what to expect here in the southeast of the country. And on Friday, 5 to 10 millimetres about elevated parts. We've got 2 to 5, grading to 0 to 1 in the northwest there. So, not a huge amount from this as it comes through during the day today.
00:53In behind that, as we move through Friday, we've got another burst that is ready to come in. Let's have a look at Saturday. There we go, moving through into the east as well. By the end of Saturday, here is the next cold front.
01:05And there is a low that is sitting here south of Adelaide and west of Tasmania. That's going to be the main driver now as we're going to Sunday. So, the guidance has changed a little bit. Stay updated here. Watch where that's going.
01:17So, here we have during the day on Saturday, as we move into Sunday, have a look at the difference from east to west. In the east, hardly anything at all. This low is now taking a path over western parts. So, it's southeast South Australia and western parts of Victoria that are now going to see the biggest falls from this as it moves through on Sunday.
01:35There we are on Sunday, 5 to 10 millimetres, 2 to 5 millimetres. Let's now move into Monday, watching that move there into New South Wales.
01:43That's where the ball of energy is now and all the action is over New South Wales from Monday onwards.
01:48Here's our next high pressure system that is sitting here. I'm just going to zoom out a little bit so we can watch where that goes.
01:53So, here we have Monday, high over the top, out to the east on Tuesday, all the action to our north. We're now in the dry zone.
02:00Heading into Wednesday, that is out to the east. We're in the dry zone, all the action to the north.
02:05Next system building in the west by Wednesday. By Thursday, it is here. We've got warm, norsally winds, all that action to our north, all the action to the west, not hitting us here.
02:14Into Friday is when that one may come back. So, we're looking at it Friday and over the weekend, then a big gap next week as high pressure takes over once again.
02:23In terms of totals for that, it's really going to have a lot of activity and moves into the New South Wales coast.
02:30Not for us here. We don't have access to that warm Tasman Sea. There's the upper level cold pool.
02:35There's instability along the coast. There's all of that moisture. That's going to work together very well for them.
02:40But us, it's more about the cold outbreak as it comes through.
02:44So, totals 10 to 15, that's in the green in through there, 5 to 10, as we see that second surge move up now over western parts of the state.
02:52And we're not likely to see the heavier falls maybe across this west coast, but that is all.
02:57So, that's us. That is for next. So, it's for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, then it moves on.
03:03And then we get that little bit next Friday. So, nothing from Monday to Thursday next week.
03:07Let's have a look at what that means for Melbourne in through here.
03:09Light rain at times during the afternoon on Friday as that comes in.
03:13So, that adds up to about 2.4 millimetres across all of the gardens there.
03:17Possible showers on Saturday, mainly in the afternoon as that next pulse comes in.
03:21On Sunday, now it is cloudy and there's 0.4 of a millimetre.
03:26We saw everything moving to the west. Yeah, we're going to get the cloud.
03:29Yes, we're going to get the cold air as it comes through.
03:31Tops of about 12 across the weekend.
03:33But then it rapidly clears out as we go into Monday.
03:36Now, chilly starts in through here.
03:38You'll notice there is a zero currently on Tuesday morning.
03:41That's the models playing a little bit of funny buggers.
03:43I don't think it will quite get that cold.
03:45We'll see that refine as it comes closer.
03:47But, yes, it is certainly a chilly start to the day.
03:50That's in the city.
03:51If you're in regional parts, yes, that is a sub-freezing morning as we go into Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday next week.
03:57That's where we're looking at widespread frosts for a large part of there.
04:01Then we get the sunny days that go with it.
04:03And afternoon temperatures start warming up.
04:05The really warm air comes in on Wednesday.
04:07Now, really warm for this time of year.
04:09So spring-like weather.
04:11That's 19 in Melbourne, 19 for Thursday as well.
04:14So Wednesday and Thursday, the mornings start to thaw out as we move through later in the week.
04:19And then we get the cloud come back from that next weather system.
04:21As always, head to Farm Online Weather for the latest.
