04:11the heat is intensified between world champion kevin nash the macho man randy savage as well as
04:19said vicious and then the wild card is a man by the name of sting we have seen sting now last week twice
04:27once in the rearview mirror of the hummer and then of course helping to attack kevin nash this past
04:33thursday on thunder and hi everybody tony shivani and the one and only bobby the brain heenan our
04:39number one of wcw monday nitro is underway and tonight the first appearance of the tragic death
04:46of his brother owen hart brett the hit man hart will come out here and talk to me and gene oakland i
04:52want to say on behalf of all of us it'll be great seeing brett hart back out here after what his family's
04:58gone through well that's the big talk in the back right now everybody's wondering what jimmy uh what

05:50tradition that's where every redneck hillbilly gets drunk and then they hand them explosives fun day
06:00moving to guerrero the former cruiserweight champ
06:03comes out here to open up our telecast we have seen and we've been amazed by the
06:10the tremendous response that cruiserweights have received with the fans around the world of course
06:15they've earned every bit of that they have taken wrestling to a different level with their high
06:20flying moves their tactics and juventud guerrero former cruiserweight champ will face a man who's uh
06:27is a top cruiserweight in his own right chavo guerrero jr fine um actually you think about a
06:33third generation wrestler and chavo jr comes out here to face juventud this is the opening man now like we
06:39said the july spectacular is coming up this sunday and that is wcw's bash at the beach and can you
06:47imagine with sting and kevin nash agreeing to be tag team partners and based on what's happened over the
06:54past week looks like literally it's going to be a three-on-one brand with not only savage sid vicious
07:01and sting all three counting the girls more than that against kevin nash well i uh i wasn't sure
07:09last week but the more i i watched thursday night also i i'm gonna have to agree i think sting is
07:15involved more than we'd like to think as far as i'm concerned if he is involved maybe he's doing
07:20something right for himself and for a change that's just my opinion well he has been more than involved
07:25he has been physically involved and uh all right scott dickinson is the referee this first match good
07:30heavy with us here on tnt
07:38juventud guerrera he sees this one as a chance to get back into the top of the rankings in the cruiserweight
07:44division chavo made a big mistake there and that was who turned his back to chavo and chavo did not take
07:51advantage of it
07:56they hook up and chavo quickly behind and there's a standing switch by huventud
08:01starting out with basic wrestling moves here into a side headlock chavo jr very aggressive
08:07youngster i don't think there's any question about that this young man has shown a lot of
08:11fire and vigor he sends huventud in but huventud with the head of steam
08:16out of the ropes on the left side getting things started early on now
08:23kicking down a great spin move to put chavo jr down these two are no strangers
08:29they have faced each other before in singles competition chavo holding on here huventud
08:33pounding away but you can see that time had the advantage holding on to the quadriceps and just
08:40falling back that time as huventud hit the top rope well he had two ways to go he could have
08:44fallen forward or backwards he took the backward route which i think is the best route because
08:48he didn't have to go that far and he saved a lot of his energy this is the first match the opening
08:53segment with you on wcw money nitro as we said earlier we will hear tonight such a big moment in
09:00his life and it's uh certainly a big moment for wcw money nitro to have brett the hitman heart back and
09:07we can't wait to hear what he has to say and we certainly have had our our hearts poured out to

09:56matches for bash of the beach but we can all only wonder about what sunday

10:11and the drop kick is tied by chavo kevin nash the world champion and sting agreed to be tag team partners
10:20kevin nash accused sting of driving the hummer sting denied it on this program and then the
10:28the evidence to the contrary brain over the past week has really put kevin nash's tag team match
10:37in a very uh tough spot i mean if i was on a jury and i'd have to make a decision real quick

36:41at what Brett the Hitman
36:42Hart has meant
36:43to all of us
36:44here at World Championship Wrestling.
36:49There isn't a wrestling fan
36:50in the world
36:51who doesn't know
36:52and respect the name
36:53Brett the Hitman Hart,
36:55a five-time
36:56World Heavyweight Champion
36:57from the legendary
36:59Hart family
36:59of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
37:02Excellence of execution
37:03is more than
37:04a nickname or catchphrase
37:06when describing him
37:07or his superior
37:08technical wrestling ability.
37:10It's a fact of life.
37:12His tenure
37:13in World Championship Wrestling
37:14has been one of turmoil,
37:16confusion,
37:17and frustration
37:18to Brett.
37:19Despite three reigns
37:21in 1998
37:22as the U.S. Champion,
37:23things just didn't work out
37:25like he expected.
37:26But any wrestling-related problems
37:28just pale in comparison
37:30to what would happen
37:31on May the 23rd, 1999.
37:35Brett's younger brother,
37:36Owen,
37:36fell to his death
37:37in the biggest tragedy
37:38in the history
37:39of our industry.
37:44Leave it to Brett Hart
37:45to put things in perspective
37:47in his Calgary Sun

37:49when he wrote,

41:13First of all, on behalf of my whole family and everybody back in Calgary, we want to thank all the wrestling fans all around the world that have sent their love and their support and their condolences.
41:31It's meant a lot to myself, it's meant a lot to my family, and it was very, very much appreciated.
41:42The WCW has been really kind to me in the last few weeks.
41:56And they've allowed me to take all the time that I want to collect myself.
42:03I wanted to say a few words about my brother Owen.
42:16He wasn't just your average wrestler.
42:24He was a wonderful human being.
42:27You know, so many wrestling fans watch him on TV every day, but they never really got close to him sometimes.
42:38But then again, there's a lot of fans that did get to know him, and a lot of the wrestlers got to know him.
42:44And I don't think there's anybody that could say a bad thing about him anywhere.
42:55He was my closest brother.
42:57We never had an argument.
43:03We never raised our voices with each other once.
43:06We were friends.
43:08We were close from the time that he was in diapers.
43:12And I take a lot of...
43:14I take a lot of pride in knowing how well he had turned out.
43:27Eric Bischoff talked to me.
43:32And he asked me if I'd come back on July 5th and at least come and explain how I felt about things.
43:41And I thought maybe I'd be ready to talk about things when I got here.
43:47But the truth is, is that I'm...
43:53really having a hard time deciding on what I want to do with my career.
43:57It's probably my life.
44:10I've lived for wrestling.
44:13And my family has lived for wrestling.
44:16And we've died for wrestling.
44:18And I'm at a funny little crossroads where I look at wrestling, pro wrestling, and I go...
44:31I don't know what else there's left for me to do anymore in wrestling.
44:39Maybe it's time for me to move on and try to accomplish something else in another field or do something else.
44:44I think of Wayne Gretzky, and I think of Elway, and I...
45:00You know, I think of all these guys that are retiring in 1999.
45:09And when I think of those people, they all...
45:12when they got to hang it up, they were all so happy.
45:20And I look at myself...
45:22tell myself, on one hand, that it's not fair for me to end my career on a tragedy.

46:59But I'm going to take some time and I'm going to think about everything and I'll put everything

50:11Here's the cat.
50:13Here's what happened a week ago.
50:15As Sonny O'Neal was chased away by Jerry Flint.
50:20Flint caught the cat with a nicely placed kick to the mouth.
50:24And Jerry Flint has now made a challenge for a kickboxing match here tonight.
50:30And that's what we're going to have for our fans here on WCW Monday Nitro.
50:34Well, we have all witnessed Bret Hart pouring his heart and his soul out to wrestling fans all around the world.
50:46Obviously, his future is very unclear, very uncertain right now, but it was a very tough thing for him to do to come out and talk to the fans.
50:57He had trouble talking.
50:58You could tell that.
50:59He couldn't say what he wanted to say.
51:01Just was so choked up in front of millions and millions of people all over the world.
51:05It was a hard moment for him.
51:06Very hard.
51:06Yeah, I'll tell you, he's a blast sack.
51:08I don't think there's any question.
51:09I don't think there's any question what he has meant to professional wrestling.
51:13What a stellar performer he has been.
51:16You know, I think he said it best.
51:17He said, they've lived for wrestling.
51:19Yes, they have.
51:20And died.
51:22It was good to see him out here, but the pain that the man is going through, you can just see it in here.
51:26And I want to see you, Brett, we are, WCW, we are behind you in getting into the rear decision that you make.
51:40This is going to be interesting, Mr. Shavani.
51:44It's going to be different.
51:46This is going to be a match under kickboxing rules.
51:50And I understand there are going to be rounds here.
51:52And you see the gloves on Jerry Flynn.
51:54The gloves put on the three-time world karate champion, The Cat, along with Sonny Ono.
52:03Jimmy Hart and their first family is going to be in the corner of Jerry Flynn.
52:08And I don't see Brian Knobs or Hugh Morris anywhere.
52:12I guess not here tonight.
52:14Maybe too much of a 4th of July party for those two men.
52:20Sonny Ono is there.
52:21He knows a lot about this sport.
52:23He's competed in tournament karate fighting as well.
52:26And, of course, Jerry Flynn with a kickboxing background.
52:31He's competed in kickboxing matches around the country.
52:34So this will be very interesting.
52:36We've heard The Cat say he'll go out and get his karate gi and he'll beat everybody at ringside.
52:40He's got it on right now.
52:42And this is obviously for Jerry Flynn to prove a point.
52:49The Cat has had a great run.
52:51And Jerry Flynn is tired of the cheap shot to the target.
52:54Here we go.
52:56The first two-minute round.
52:58And we're going to really see, and we haven't seen it before, we've seen a guy with a great kickboxing martial arts skill in The Cat go in a wrestling match.
53:13But now we're being treated here to the fact that we're seeing The Cat and Jerry Flynn in their element here, Brandon.
53:21They have been wrestling now for I don't know how long, a period of time.
53:26About two years.
53:26Yeah, they've been using their hands the whole time.
53:29Wrestlers have to use their hands.
53:31Now I wonder how awkward this feels.
53:33Do they want to grab somebody?
53:34Are they used to grabbing now instead of punching?
53:36This is going to be awkward.
53:38I think it could be awkward, but I think that their background is so esteemed in the kickboxing and tournament karate fighting that it's second nature to them.
53:48And one thing that we've noticed, I think you fans have noticed as well, is the fact that The Cat is worth the one-minute mark of this first round.
53:57The Cat, when he goes into a wrestling match, comes in and dances and brags.
54:01He didn't do any of that.
54:02He was a much different man in the ring, a much different demeanor, and it's because when it comes to this, he's back in his element.
54:10He's much more serious.
54:12Back home.
54:13I think much more confident as well in his abilities in karate or kickboxing and fighting.
54:25Terry Flynn looks in great shape.
54:27A spin and a backhand in time.
54:30Did not connect.
54:32A spin and a backhand in time.
54:34A spin and a backhand in time.
54:36A spin and a backhand in time.
54:38And their basic kickboxing roles.
54:40Nice move by Flynn.
54:41Notice how after you deliver a move, they're always on guard.
54:47They're always hands up, trying to fend off a blow or a kick.
54:52As we come to the end of the first round here.
54:54This kickboxing match between the Cat and Jerry Flynn, very different style of match that the fans are used to, the wrestling fans, as you can tell.
55:07And now with Sonny Odo and Jimmy Hart in each man's corner, we'll have a one-minute rest period here.
55:13And the second round takes place.
55:15That's all right.
55:17You've got this guy.
55:18You can take this guy out.
55:20Jimmy Hart over there, the motivator.
55:22You know, I know the Cat has had many, many great wins.
55:27He's a champion over and over again in tournament fighting.
55:30But Jerry Flynn held his own in that first round.
55:37Cat remained standing the whole time.
55:40Jerry Flynn sat down.
55:41I don't know if that means anything.
55:43Well, Sonny Odo didn't have much to say at all.
55:46Just a little bit of words of confidence.
55:47Jimmy Hart, ever the motivator in the other corner.
55:50It's like there's a mouse under the left eye there of the Cat.
55:54Funny the Cat would have a mouse.
55:56One of those kicks by Flynn connected.
56:01A look at the face of the Cat, Ernest Miller.
56:04And round number two.
56:06How about that?
56:11A little warning that the Cat went down on the mat.
56:16Jerry Flynn.
56:17That was a slip, it looked like.
56:22Held on to the rope zone.
56:23To me, being a wrestler all my life and in this sport, I can't understand how a man with one leg.
56:30To me, you're off balance when you're only standing with one leg.
56:32But they're so quick.
56:41Cat has been able to connect with a variety of those kicks, but every time he connects, Flynn just kind of hooks up with him.
56:47Oh, that one connected.
56:52Backhand, it looked like.
56:54A spinning backhand caught him in the forehead, and Flynn goes down to one knee.
57:00His bell was rung.
57:02The first real connect that we've had in this matchup as we are at the halfway point now of round number two.
57:13Boy, now the Cat's showing the quickness in those hands.
57:16He is so quick.
57:18So lightning quick.
57:20Flynn just tries to get in close and tries to keep him close.
57:25If he gets away from him like this, the Cat's going to pelt for him once again.
57:29And that kick found its mark into the midsection.
57:32I'll tell you, that shot to the head, that backhand to the head really, really rang the bell of Flynn.
57:37He hasn't been the same since.
57:38He's hurt.
57:39So Flynn is the one who made the challenge for this, and the Cat is putting on a display right now.
57:46Again, in the midsection.
57:47That's three times down to one knee.
57:49Oh!
57:51Well, I don't think there's any question that's a cheap shot.
57:55Why?
57:55As the man goes down.
57:57It's easier to hit that way.
57:59Well, of course it is.
58:00But Nick Patrick has called for the bell.
58:02Does that mean he's disqualifying the Cat here?
58:04Yes, that's right.
58:10He's going to give this match to Jerry Flynn.
58:13And Jerry Flynn, based on that cheap shot.
58:17Take the gloves off.
58:20Keep him on.

58:21Just fight.
58:23Dives on the Cat.
58:24Keeps him down.
58:28Well, now let the Cat up.
58:30You see that Nick Patrick's trying to get in between the men.
58:34And that may not be a good idea from Nick Patrick.

58:44Jerry Flynn's going to win this thing by a disqualification, an illegal blow by the Cat.
58:51Boy, and Jerry Flynn is, as the Cat looks very confident.

59:02Well, there's a man that lost, but he looks like the winner.
