A Level results day at Aston University Engineering Academy and Aston University saw students opening results, planning their next steps, and exploring opportunities like Clearing.
00:00For students, Results Day is a cocktail of nerves, relief and the big question, what happens next?
00:07Here at Aston University Engineering Academy, the envelopes have been opened, futures set in motion and decisions made in real time.
00:16Some will be heading to their first choice university, others might be weighing up offers or looking at alternatives.
00:22I spoke to two students about the moment they saw those grades and how it's shaping the path ahead.
00:28Or before, I felt like it was like a bittersweet feeling, but once I opened it, it was like, well, I didn't get what I wanted.
00:36I wanted a distinction and I got a merit, but I still got into the uni that I wanted to, so it did the job.
00:43I was nervous the night before, but I don't know, in the morning I was just like, it is what it is, but I got into U of B for midwifery, so yeah.
00:50Yeah, I got finally the results that I wanted to, I was a bit nervous opening my results, but I'm finally able to go to the uni that I've dreamed of going for like the past two years now.
01:01I feel good, relieved, nervous, I got the grades I wanted, sorry.
01:07While the grades belong to the students, the journey to this point is shaped by years of teaching, support and guidance.
01:15The principal here has seen countless results days, each one different, but all with the same high stakes.
01:21With universities, employers and apprenticeships competing for talent, schools are under pressure to make sure students are ready for whatever comes next.
01:29I asked the principal how the academy prepares young people for this moment and for the life beyond it.
01:37We do a significant amount here at Astrid University and Junior Academy in sixth form to prepare the students for the results day.
01:42Not only supporting them through the pre-process in terms of their applications for UCAS and also for apprenticeships.
01:48We have a lot of students here looking to go on to apprenticeships.
01:50So supporting them through the process, providing mental health support and counselling and support and building them up to dealing with the anxiety, I should say, and being ready for the result.
02:01For some, results day isn't the end of the story. It's the start of a twist they didn't see coming.
02:06Clearing can be seen as a fallback, but for others, it's a chance to see an unexpected opportunity.
02:12Adora Wong went through clearing, found a better fit for her ambitions and built a successful path from there.
02:18I asked her what the experience was like and what advice she'd give to anyone considering it now.
02:24My experience in crew clearing is actually really good because I had someone from Aston who supported me throughout the whole journey.
02:30It was nervous at the start. With the support, I actually ended up with a really good career.
02:35I graduated in Aston and then I went to do my vice president education in the student union for two years.
02:42And then I'm now studying my master's in HR.
02:45So it was a really good journey and it gave me a lot of experience.
02:49One of the things I would say is I'll probably go through the same process again.
02:54However, I would definitely do more research before the result day happened so that it helped me a lot.
