Venture Credit Union has been the victim of a cyberattack that took place in July this year.

The credit union in a media release today confirmed the ransomware attack that took place on July 16th

00:00On July 18th, Venture Credit Union offices in Kuvan, San Fernando came under a ransomware attack. The attack was reported on cybersecurity firm Fallon Feeds X account, reported the attack on August 12th, and said the financial institution had fallen victim to the Quillen ransomware.
00:16The release of proof of documents captured in a breach on the dark web was accompanied by a personal note which stated, this is why hundreds of personal documents of Venture's clients have been made publicly available. Claims had been made that financial information of VCU's customers had been exposed. However, Venture Credit Union, in a media release today, while confirming the ransomware attack, denied that their customers' financial information had been exposed.
00:44Venture said, open quote, on Friday, July 18th, 2025, Venture Credit Union Society Limited successfully recovered from a ransomware attack. Due to the robust cybersecurity measures which we have installed over the past two years, coupled with the swift action of our ICT department, the malicious attempt was detected and neutralized.
01:06We have become aware of information circulating in the public domain and wish to advise that no core banking information has been compromised, close quote.
01:15But Venture Credit Union did say in their release that some personal identifiable information had been leaked, and they were currently assessing the extent of this breach and will communicate directly with members who may have been impacted.
01:28Venture stressed that protecting the security and confidentiality of members' information remain the highest priority.
01:35When TV6 News contacted Venture Credit Union's President Charles Percy, he directed us to an online article in which he answered questions related to the breach.
01:44Percy said, open quote,
01:45Our cyber protection systems identified an active threat, and our network staff immediately reacted to shut down and secure our systems.
01:54We then contacted international cyber specialists who immediately responded to our assistance.
02:00They worked diligently with us to do a forensic assessment, analysis, and a restoration on a 24-hour basis.
02:07No core banking information has been compromised, and we have been fully functional across all platforms from July 21st, close quote.

02:16We fully respect the ever-increasing cyber threat landscape faced by organizations as operations become more digital.
02:24We have embarked on a robust upgrade of our digital defenses, and this, in large measure, helped us to be resilient, close quote.
