Morning workouts turn a group of fitness fanatics into bitter rivals. As the competition heats up between the bubbly 9 AM class and the fierce 5 AM’s, it’s not just buff bods and tight abs on the line. Someone must come out on top, no matter what.

00:00The gym is more than just a place to work out. It's a place to meet friends and maybe some
00:18frenemies. We want people to feel connected. We want it to feel inclusive. We want it to feel
00:24like 18. But when you see somebody else who's younger and prettier, that's going to bring
00:30you jealousy. There's going to be clicks. She sawed her as a threat. She wanted to beat
00:35her. There is this woman just staring at me. I had to ask, do I know you?
00:43Your mother f***ing care of her. And I'm like, oh my God, just an absolute nightmare. She's evil,
00:51no question whatsoever.
01:11There is a car in my driveway with a dead body.
01:21A 911 call comes in. The person that called 911 said that she did not know who the victim
01:36was. She did not know whose car it was.
01:38I just want you to know I have officers in row. I have somebody right down the street.
01:42They should be there any second.
01:45When the officers arrived, they see the victim's body was on the ground. Blood was flowing from
01:52the driveway to the street. And the victim's foot was still inside the vehicle, even though
01:59the victim's body was on the ground. And they found that the victim died of a single gunshot wound
02:05to the head.
02:07I've never had a homicide like this before. This is a suburb, a place that you want to raise
02:12your family. I remember thinking how disturbing that was.
02:16Coral Springs is just north of Miami. It is a beautiful town full of beautiful people.
02:36In the sunshine state, everyone's job is beach. So if you want to compete, you know that every
02:43morning is another chance to rise and grind. Fitness is a big thing in South Florida.
02:51There are about 20 gyms jammed in a small square footage area. So fitness, beauty, well-being,
02:58this is a huge priority for the women of Coral Springs.
03:012019, I was at a gym called Training for Warriors. So you come in here for an hour, you work your
03:15ass off, you talk to people, you have fun.
03:17I got your back. I got your back. You got my back. You got my back.
03:21I'll do that. Excellent, Charlie.
03:22When it was heavy lifting, you would do that inside, but you would run around the parking lot.
03:30Eight, nine, ten. Beautiful. We've got one more round of that to do. Jump in, Jess.
03:36It was an amazing place. It was more than a gym. We found friendship. We found a group. We found
03:45familia. We want people to be a part of something bigger than themselves. In 2019, it was our best
03:52year ever. We had 300 members and every class was full to capacity. We had eight classes run in a day.
04:03First class would start at five. Then we would have five, six, eight, and nine o'clock. Like each
04:10each class had kind of a distinct personality.
04:18The 9 a.m. group was like the most fun. There was great energy always.
04:23Nine o'clock, it was a lot of people that either started work late in the day or house moms.
04:30The 9 a.m. group reigns supreme. They're fun-loving. They're the party group. They're the ones that
04:38you just wonder how you can be like that girl. And this is the group that everyone aspires to be like.
04:48For these 9 a.m.ers, it's all about the glamour shot on the Insta.
04:53They start their workout by going through the Instagram account of the gym, saying, oh, this is a
05:08great picture of you, laughing and talking about what they did that weekend.
05:13They came to have a good time, socialize, say hello, laugh. In my opinion, the 9 a.m. class was the best.
05:21Every morning at the crack of dawn, another group rolls into the gym
05:27at 5 a.m., while the 9 a.m.ers are still getting their beauty sleep.
05:37You can call them a special breed.
05:42The trash talkers, they were a rough crowd. It was like expletive, expletive, expletive.
05:49Get that up.
05:51The 5 a.m.ers are proud to be harder, to be a little tougher, to be a little louder,
05:58to maybe lift a little heavier. They don't have to be perfect. They're going to be strong.
06:05I don't know if waking up at 5 o'clock in the morning makes you, like, a little rude or angry.
06:11Of course, some 5 a.m.ers come early, so they don't have to deal with 9 a.m. snaps and socializing.
06:20Who needs the distraction or the comparison?
06:23They didn't come to be social. They didn't want to be nice.
06:27There is a chance that they didn't like 9 a.m. because we were the ones close to the coaches.
06:33But I didn't honestly like them.
06:38The reigning queen bee of the 9 a.m. class is 21-year-old college student Daniella Tabarez.
06:46She is the it girl of the gym. Daniella was absolutely gorgeous.
06:52And she definitely garnered some looks wherever she went.
06:57She was very competitive in nature.
07:00She was in great shape. I think in the best shape that she has ever been in.
07:05She went to the gym Monday through Friday.
07:09Whether fresh from a sesh at the gym or out on the town,
07:14Daniella's got a glow that turns heads and incites jealousy.
07:21She and her mother migrated here from Columbia,
07:25and they lived in the Cool Springs area.
07:29She had just finished two years at Broward County College.
07:32Then she was going off to FIU to pursue a degree in criminal justice.
07:38She has great, meaningful friendships.
07:45She has it all.
07:47Daniella! Good work.
07:52I met Daniella at the gym.
07:57Daniella and I were 20-some years apart.
08:01I mean, she could have been my daughter, and she used to call me BFF.
08:07Daniella's nickname, PR, meant for personal record.
08:10It's a glow up. You can hashtag that.
08:13Upgrade. New style. Glow up.
08:16She was always doing her best to break her previous personal record.
08:22And she took pride in that.
08:24Daniella was also known as the queen of the eye roll at the gym.
08:29She would definitely roll her eyes.
08:32She had that little spice to her.
08:35She didn't need to say much.
08:37She would just give you the idea to, like,
08:39and she would do something like you knew she was giving you sassiness.
08:45Now, if you're a part of the 9 a.m. group and she's your buddy,
08:48that is just a facet of who Daniella is.
08:53But if you're maybe not in the in-group,
08:57that eye roll can seem like an insult.
09:02Gyms can bring a jealousy mindset to somebody.
09:07You see somebody else who's younger and prettier,
09:10that's going to bring you jealousy.
09:12In the summer of 2019,
09:16the growing tensions between these two very different groups
09:20descends to a new low of cattiness.
09:24She's so iconic.
09:26She's so iconic.
09:28The 9 a.m.ers loved competing,
09:30and they loved being the best.
09:33And they weren't afraid to step on a few toes if they had to.
09:36One day, the 9 a.m. was like,
09:37we should make a t-shirt.
09:38And so, yeah, one day I just walked in
09:40and everybody's wearing their 9 a.m. best a.m. t-shirts.
09:44And I was like, this is great.
09:45I love this.
09:46I love the connection that everybody has.
09:49But the 5 a.m.ers aren't over the whole
09:529 a.m. is the best class thing.
09:54They're the ones getting their butts up at 5 in the morning
09:57and doing the hardest class.
10:00So why shouldn't they get a little appreciation?
10:03Then word got around that, like,
10:05oh, the 9 a.m. crew has a t-shirt,
10:07so we won our t-shirts.
10:09So the 5 a.m. group got together,
10:11and the logo they came up with
10:12was setting the bar for the day.
10:14It was the first class of the day,
10:16and they're saying,
10:16we're the example for the rest of you.
10:22It's petty, it's pointless,
10:24and it's about to become a problem.
10:30The 5 a.m. class felt that they were competing
10:33with the 9 a.m. class.
10:35Oh, they think the 9 a.m. feel that they are the best?
10:38Okay, no, we are the best.
10:41And despite the coach's best efforts
10:43to make the gym a positive place,
10:46this feud is about to spiral completely out of control.
10:50At TFW, we want people to feel connected.
11:03We want it to feel inclusive.
11:04We want it to feel like a team.
11:07But there became a division.
11:09At this point,
11:10the 5 a.m. class really wants to differentiate themselves.
11:13They want to show that the 5 a.m. class
11:16is actually the best class.
11:18And one of the 5 a.m.ers
11:20is a 51-year-old woman named Yvonne Serrano.
11:24Yvonne joined the gym in May of 2019.
11:28One, two, three, hit it!
11:31Oh, yeah!
11:33When Yvonne joined the gym,
11:35it was like she was hooked.
11:36She jumped right in,
11:37made a lot of connections.
11:39She was enthusiastic,
11:41throwing high fives.
11:42Her energy was infectious.
11:46She'd be right there,
11:47be like, hey, come on,
11:49like, you can do this, let's go.
11:50She was a good part and a good mix
11:53in that 5 a.m. class.
11:57These high-octane, early morning workouts
12:00turn out to be a great outlet
12:02for this recent empty nester.
12:04Yvonne's children were basically grown.
12:07Her husband was a retiree from the military.
12:10He was out traveling a lot.
12:13She was lonely.
12:15The gym did become her life at some point.
12:18Yvonne has really found a great place
12:19to the 5 a.m. group,
12:21but she can't help but notice
12:22that the 9 a.m. group
12:25is the group everyone wants to be like.
12:29It's not just that she sees them at the gym,
12:32she's also following them on social media.
12:34Nothing could make it more obvious
12:37that you're not in the in crowd
12:38than searching the socials after a long weekend
12:41and seeing everyone else
12:42having a great time without you.
12:46I think there was a part of Yvonne
12:47that yearned to be part of the in crowd,
12:50the fun crowd.
12:52She needed those vibes,
12:54that energy in her life at this time.
12:56And unlike most of her 5 a.m. counterparts,
13:01Yvonne has nothing but time.
13:04No kids to wrangle,
13:06no job waiting after her workout.
13:08So with her free time,
13:10she concocks a plan to get herself
13:13into the 9 a.m. social circle.
13:15Yvonne and one of her other 5 a.m. friends
13:18started lingering in the parking lot
13:21after their workout was over.
13:22So the 6 a.m. group would come
13:24and go 7, 8, 9.
13:28Some of the 9 a.m. group even noticed
13:29that they were still in the parking lot
13:32when they got out of their class.
13:35I knew they were from 5 a.m.
13:37and it will be 9, 10.
13:39We will still be outside at 10.30
13:41and they will still be talking out there.
13:45We used to feel like kind of odd.
13:49I'm sure at one point we were questioning
13:51like these two women don't have anything to do.
13:55Determined to prove herself among this gym elite,
13:59Yvonne signs up for a 9 a.m. class.
14:02She's ready to show everyone
14:03she belongs with the best of them.
14:06Yvonne went to the 9 a.m. class
14:08to scout and see what was going on
14:12in the other classes,
14:13trying to see if maybe she could be part
14:15of a already committed group.
14:20And when she walked in,
14:22everybody else was talking amongst themselves.
14:24I don't want to say a clique,
14:25but they didn't know her.
14:27And so in the 9 a.m. group,
14:29everybody's having fun,
14:30everybody's joking,
14:31and it's a fun atmosphere,
14:33except for Yvonne being way over the top.
14:38She was trying to come in and show off
14:41what she was all about.
14:46Like, I'm going to show you what's up.
14:49I'm the best,
14:50and look how much better I am than you.
14:55It's just like over-the-top, awkward,
14:58making everybody uncomfortable,
15:00bringing down the vibe of the group.
15:02I think Yvonne's attitude
15:07in that 9 a.m. group that day
15:09just got underneath Daniella's skin.
15:12Yvonne feels the chill
15:13and gets the message loud and clear.
15:16The 9 a.m.ers want nothing to do with her.
15:20I think Yvonne's feelings were hurt.
15:22After she was rejected from the 9 a.m. group,
15:24maybe this just isn't the place for her.
15:26So after joining our community
15:31in May of 2019
15:33and being very consistent,
15:36like, every single day,
15:37Yvonne just very abruptly
15:38froze her membership.
15:42She did not give a reason.
15:43You know, I didn't think anything of it.
15:45I was like, oh, all right,
15:46she's got something going on.
15:47You know, it is what it is.
15:49Sensing tension in the rinks,
15:51the coaches decide
15:52it's time to blow off some steam.
15:54This was very close to the time.
15:57There was this negative group of people
15:59that were causing a problem,
16:00and I wanted to soften that a little bit
16:02to uplift people.
16:03Whoever wants to come,
16:04let's have a good time.
16:06Something that was meant to be
16:07a fun night with friends
16:09brought out a nightmare.
16:13I don't think anybody
16:14could have ever predicted
16:15what was about to happen that night.
16:24This weekend,
16:32we planned to go see a movie
16:35at Silver Spot Cinemas
16:36in Coconut Creek.
16:39After the movie,
16:40a handful of us decided
16:42to walk across the street,
16:44hang out.
16:46So it was a pretty large group
16:48that showed up.
16:48I was excited to see everyone.
16:50Daniella was super excited
16:53about going out that night.
16:55Everybody was there.
16:57We were just laughing with everybody.
17:00We were having fun.
17:02Everybody is welcome.
17:03Like, you know,
17:04we all just want to have a good time.
17:08And then I noticed Yvonne.
17:12I was like, you know,
17:15cool.
17:16I'm so glad that she came.
17:18You know, she's,
17:19her account is frozen right now,
17:20but she's still part of the familia.
17:23I think that this night
17:24meant a lot to Yvonne.
17:26This is a chance
17:26to really let her hair down
17:28and show them who she was.
17:30So she picked out
17:31the perfect outfit.
17:33She wore a lace tank top.
17:35She got her best Louis Vuitton purse.
17:37And hey, it would be nice
17:38to be featured on the gym Instagram.
17:39But 9 a.m. versus 5 a.m.?
17:44It's not just a gym thing.
17:47Daniella and I
17:48are just trying to find our places,
17:50not knowing where we're going.
17:51And there is this woman, Yvonne,
17:54just staring at me.
17:55And I had to ask,
17:57I said, do I know you?
18:00At that point, she goes,
18:01yeah, I go to the gym.
18:02And I was like, oh, wow.
18:03Like, I couldn't recall at that moment.
18:06And she said, but I do know you.
18:08I know what time you work out.
18:10I know what time you run.
18:12I have seen you running outside many times.
18:14I know you go to 9 a.m.
18:16And at that point, I was like,
18:18wow, I guess you do know me.
18:19I was totally oblivious about who she was.
18:23Daniella was right there with me
18:24and we looked at each other quickly like,
18:26what the hell is this?
18:27And then we walked away from her.
18:32She said, that's the lady from the,
18:34that is always in the 5 a.m. class.
18:36I didn't know who she was, honestly.
18:39The slight from the younger woman stings.
18:42But instead of taking a hint,
18:44Yvonne doubles down
18:46on desperation and liquor.
18:49Yvonne seemed like she was trying to fit in
18:56with the people that were there that night.
18:58She was trying to hang out with everybody.
19:00We were outside and she came to sit down.
19:02It started raining a little bit.
19:06Carolina's a little prima donna.
19:07If her hair gets wet, the night's ruined.
19:09So she starts running inside.
19:11Everybody follows her.
19:13Yvonne's still outside.
19:14She's like, okay, well,
19:15everyone's going inside now,
19:16so I'm going to go inside.
19:18She would follow him in.
19:19People would come out.
19:20It was just a constant back and forth
19:22where it looked like people
19:23were running away from her.
19:25Daniela comes to me at one point
19:27and says, hey, there is that Yvonne
19:28asking me to sit outside with her.
19:31She says, like, I don't know how to tell her
19:33that we don't want to sit out there.
19:35So I, like, you want me to tell her?
19:37And she goes, yeah.
19:38So I went outside and sure thing,
19:41she was sitting on a table by herself.
19:43And she goes, I told you,
19:45I got a table for us.
19:46And you leave me there alone
19:49and you never came back.
19:50Something along those lines.
19:51And I said, I told you,
19:53it's going to rain
19:54and we didn't want to sit out there with you.
19:56And I walked away.
19:59You could tell Yvonne was starting to get irritated.
20:02I basically stopped her,
20:03talked to her a little bit.
20:05Don't worry about it.
20:07It's raining, blah, blah, blah,
20:08here and there.
20:09But the 9 a.m. diss hits hard.
20:15So Yvonne decides it's time to show everyone
20:17she's still got it.
20:19Yvonne is talking to every single person
20:22that's coming in.
20:24She turns to this rowdy bunch of regulars,
20:27young men.
20:28They're in their 20s.
20:29And she starts joking with them.
20:31She's buying drinks.
20:32I see Yvonne, like, grabbing this young guy
20:36and they are talking.
20:38I can tell that Daniela is uncomfortable.
20:40One of these young guys
20:42starts hitting on Daniela with full force.
20:50Daniela is not into it.
20:52This is not her scene.
20:53She does not want to be picked up.
20:57Daniela's friends are noticing
20:58that this guy is very focused on Daniela.
21:02And it's not just making Daniela uncomfortable.
21:05It's starting to make her friends uncomfortable
21:07and feel a bit protective towards her.
21:12Daniela said,
21:14I'm not going anywhere with anybody.
21:17So I'm looking at Daniela
21:18and I ask,
21:20are you okay?
21:21And she just rolled her eyes
21:23without saying a thing
21:24and she turned her back
21:26and started facing that way.
21:27Like, she already gave me the answer.
21:29Like, I'm not approving this.
21:30I don't want to be here.
21:31That was Daniela.
21:32She could talk to you
21:33just rolling her eyes
21:34and you knew she was disappointed.
21:38For Yvonne,
21:39there's only one solution
21:41to a party that's rapidly going south.
21:44More drinks.
21:46You could tell that she was trying
21:47to keep the party going
21:49because she kept ordering drinks and shots
21:52and just handing them off to everybody.
21:55I failed a little.
21:57Uneasy leaving the bar,
21:59leaving Daniela that night
22:00because she was so innocent.
22:04I was concerned about people around her
22:07and all that.
22:08When I was leaving,
22:09Daniela was sitting there
22:11still in one of the bar stools
22:13and I looked at her.
22:14She gave me the look
22:15like, I'm okay.
22:17I gave her the look, okay.
22:19And I walked away when I left.
22:21It's really weird
22:24the way that night worked out.
22:27So I left around midnight.
22:29I kind of gave it like a,
22:30hey, see you later, guys.
22:31The next morning,
22:37I get a text saying,
22:40we don't know where Daniela is.
22:42And I'm like,
22:43oh my God,
22:44what the hell's going on?
22:48I remember,
22:49like,
22:50I'm freaking out.
22:52Just an absolute nightmare.
22:53I woke up to a call
23:06from Daniela's mom, Isa.
23:08I knew something was wrong.
23:14She had asked me
23:15if Daniela had just accidentally
23:18slept over my house
23:19and we just forgot to tell her.
23:22I told her no.
23:24The last time
23:25I had heard from her
23:26was the night before
23:28with her gym friends.
23:31I became super scared
23:34when I found out
23:35that Daniela
23:35had not gotten home.
23:52Desperate to locate her daughter,
24:08Daniela's mother
24:09next calls Carolina.
24:12When she said
24:12that Daniela
24:13didn't make it home,
24:14I knew it was something
24:15just really bad
24:16had happened.
24:17and immediately
24:18the only thing
24:19I could think of
24:20was that kid
24:21that Yvonne
24:23was talking to
24:23that night
24:24because he was
24:24the only person
24:25that was an outsider
24:26and he did something.
24:29He followed Daniela.
24:31He took her.
24:32He kidnapped her.
24:33I started making phone calls
24:34to every person
24:35that I could.
24:37Nobody knew anything.
24:39Meanwhile,
24:42Fernanda suddenly remembers
24:44that she can track
24:45Daniela's location
24:46through her phone.
24:49Daniela and I
24:49shared locations
24:50just kind of
24:51to keep an eye
24:51on each other.
24:54Daniela's location
24:55had pinged
24:56in Coral Springs
24:57about 15 minutes away.
25:01The ride
25:02seemed like an eternity.
25:03As I pulled up
25:06to the ping location,
25:08it was a parking lot
25:10close to the training
25:13for Warriors Gym.
25:15My immediate thought
25:16was she was okay.
25:18But the parking lot
25:19is completely empty
25:21and there is no sign
25:23of Daniela.
25:24So I got out the car
25:26and I started looking
25:27around the bushes.
25:29I started looking around
25:30the trees that were
25:31in the area
25:32thinking,
25:34okay, maybe
25:35she dropped her phone.
25:37But I didn't find
25:39anything with Daniela
25:40or anything
25:41of any of her belongings.
25:45I refreshed the app
25:48and it re-pinged
25:49at a different location
25:51not too far away.
25:52I felt better.
25:54It meant that
25:55her phone was moving
25:56so I believed
25:58that she was moving
25:59with her phone.
26:00So Fernanda now
26:03is driving around
26:04and looking
26:05for Daniela
26:06and she finds
26:08an address
26:08that Fernanda
26:09is not familiar with.
26:12By now,
26:13a local resident
26:14has called
26:15the Coral Springs
26:15911 dispatch.
26:17911, what is an emergency?
26:25911, what is an emergency?
26:28I just walked up
26:30and there is a car
26:31on my driveway
26:32with a dead body.
26:35With what?
26:37A dead body.
26:38A dead body?
26:40Yes.
26:41Are they inside the vehicle?
26:43No, there are
26:45five of you.
26:47Do you know
26:47who that is?
26:49It's a girl.
26:50I, I, I can't tell.
26:52It's your blood
26:54and over here.
26:56Our 911 caller
26:57said that she woke up
26:58this morning,
26:59walked out
26:59and saw the body
27:01of an unidentified female
27:02lying on the driveway.
27:05One of her legs
27:06was still inside
27:06the vehicle.
27:08There were no other injuries
27:08other than
27:09a single gunshot wound.
27:10There was a lot of blood
27:13surrounding her body.
27:14There was a lot of blood
27:15on her clothing
27:15and actually streaming
27:17down the driveway.
27:19And I observed
27:20that she had been there
27:21for quite some time.
27:24We did run the license plate
27:26on that vehicle
27:26and saw that it was registered
27:28to a Daniela Tavares Maya.
27:32When I pulled up
27:33to the neighborhood,
27:35I had seen that there was
27:36a lot of cops
27:37and the streets
27:39were blocked off
27:40by the police tape.
27:47I had seen a car
27:48in the driveway,
27:49but I was okay
27:51because her car
27:53was a black Versa.
27:56I had gone to
27:58talk to one of the police
27:59officers there.
28:01I told him that
28:03I was looking for my friend,
28:05that I had her location
28:07and that the location
28:09had taken me
28:10to that neighborhood.
28:11Can you help me?
28:14The officer
28:15gave me a really strange energy
28:19and he told me,
28:21okay, let's go to my car
28:24and speak a little bit more.
28:26We got into the car.
28:27We got into the car
28:28and he locked the doors
28:31and immediately started
28:33blasting cold air,
28:35which I found extremely strange.
28:39the detective then
28:40he took a second
28:43and
28:45he was the one
28:50to break the news to me
28:51that they were investigating
28:53the death of Daniela.
28:56And when I turned
29:04to look at the driveway,
29:07it really hit me
29:09that it was Daniela
29:10because in that moment,
29:13I had remembered
29:15that she had just
29:17gotten a brand new car
29:18and that was her car.
29:21I had no idea
29:24whose house this was.
29:27I had no idea
29:29why Daniela's car
29:31was in the driveway.
29:33I didn't know
29:35what was going on.
29:38I did a cursory check
29:40of the vehicle
29:40and observed
29:41that there was no gun
29:43anywhere near the vehicle.
29:45So my first thought
29:46was that we had a homicide.
29:48It looked to us
29:49like she was shot
29:51in the car
29:51and then somebody
29:52opened the door
29:53and then someone
29:54had attempted to pull
29:55the victim's body
29:56out of the vehicle.
30:02Within the gym,
30:04word spread.
30:05Everybody knew
30:05kind of what was going on.
30:09I remember
30:10when I got the phone call
30:11and he said
30:12that body was Daniela.
30:14My head was spinning.
30:16I don't know
30:16what happened after that.
30:18Who did this to her?
30:20Was she attacked?
30:21Like, you know,
30:22what happened?
30:29Then I got a call
30:30from a friend
30:31and then that's when
30:34the show started.
30:36He's freaking out
30:36and I tell him,
30:39like, listen,
30:40send me your pin
30:41wherever you're at.
30:42I finally get there
30:46and the street
30:47was blocked off.
30:49The body bag
30:49on the driveway.
30:52I knew what house
30:52that was.
30:54I was at
30:55Yvonne's house.
30:57looking down the street,
31:08there were
31:08probably
31:09at least five cop cars,
31:13crime scene unit.
31:14I was just shocked.
31:16Right then,
31:17I got a pit in my stomach
31:18because I knew
31:19Danny gave
31:20Yvonne a ride home.
31:21I kind of figured
31:23what happened.
31:25You put two
31:27and two together,
31:28you watch enough
31:28crime dramas.
31:31My niece gave out.
31:33I just lost it.
31:34The police started
31:40asking Yvonne some questions.
31:42So Yvonne told the officer
31:45that she went out
31:46the night before.
31:47She was hanging out
31:49with a group
31:50from Training for Warriors Gym.
31:52She had a few drinks
31:54that night.
31:54She blacked out
31:55and she didn't remember
31:56how she got home.
31:57She just woke up
31:59in her bed,
32:00was about to go
32:01to the gym
32:01and that, you know,
32:03she saw a dead body
32:04in her driveway.
32:04When asked if she knew
32:06who the person was,
32:07she said that
32:08she did not know
32:09who it was.
32:13We observed
32:13that there was
32:14a ring camera.
32:15So, naturally,
32:16we wanted to find out
32:17if any of the footage
32:19on that camera
32:20could help us
32:20to solve this murder.
32:23Yvonne stated
32:23that she deleted
32:24all the footage.
32:28Well, what do you mean
32:29you deleted it?
32:29You have a dead body
32:31in your driveway
32:31and you're deleting
32:32your footage?
32:33At that point,
32:35we decided
32:35it was time
32:36to escort Yvonne
32:39back to the Coral Springs
32:39Police Department.
32:46So, when Yvonne
32:49first gets to the police station,
32:51she stuck with
32:52her initial story.
32:54She woke up in her bed.
32:55She was on her way
32:56to the gym.
32:57She didn't know
32:57who Daniela was.
32:58I do not deny
33:00the fact that
33:01the car is in my driveway.
33:02Okay, so...
33:02I'm not trying to say,
33:04you know,
33:05I'm not trying
33:06to hide anything.
33:07I'm honestly,
33:08honest about it.
33:08I'm telling you,
33:09I don't.
33:09You don't remember
33:10coming home
33:11or how you got home?
33:11No, I don't remember
33:12about how I got home.
33:13She looked right
33:14into my eyes
33:14the entire time.
33:15Nothing seemed
33:16to faze Yvonne.
33:19But it wasn't long
33:21before her story
33:22dragged to some change.
33:23I want to say,
33:24I was still drunk.
33:25And I want to say,
33:27honest to goodness,
33:29I woke up in the car
33:31sitting on the passenger seat.
33:33And I was sitting there
33:34and, you know,
33:37I don't...
33:40I didn't know
33:41how I got there,
33:43but I saw the door open.
33:45And you can see
33:46at least some legs.
33:48Yeah.
33:48So, that's a new memory
33:51that you have.
33:51Yes, yes.
33:52All right.
33:53During the interrogation,
33:54there were detectives
33:55over at World of Beer
33:56that were continuously
33:57sending video and pictures.
34:00On the video,
34:01I could see that
34:01Yvonne and Daniela
34:03were communicating
34:03with each other.
34:05And then the officers
34:07confronted Yvonne
34:09with the videos
34:11of her and Daniela
34:12at the World of Beer.
34:14Do you know
34:15who that is?
34:16Right there.
34:17You think that might
34:18be Daniela?
34:18Uh-huh.
34:19Okay.
34:20I think.
34:21All of a sudden,
34:22she now knows
34:23who Daniela is.
34:25While Yvonne's story
34:26keeps changing,
34:28the physical evidence
34:29doesn't lie.
34:31As Detective Young
34:32and I continue
34:33to interrogate Yvonne,
34:35a SIG 365
34:36was located
34:37in a purse
34:38in Yvonne's bedroom.
34:40The gun
34:41had blood spatter on it.
34:43It was found
34:44in a rocking chair
34:46next to her bed
34:47underneath a pillow.
34:50They searched
34:51the victim's car
34:52and they found
34:53a shell casing
34:54to a 365.
35:01They discovered
35:02that the white tank top
35:04that she had had
35:05was hanging
35:06in her laundry room
35:07and it was freshly washed.
35:09It was damp
35:10and it had
35:11the victim's blood
35:11on it.
35:13Yet when pressed
35:14to explain
35:14what really happened
35:16that night
35:16and why,
35:18Yvonne sticks
35:19to her story.
35:20I will repeat myself,
35:24I don't remember.
35:25We don't believe that.
35:26I don't remember
35:27getting out
35:28off world beers.
35:30I don't remember
35:31getting in her car.
35:32I don't remember
35:33getting into the house.
35:37She had the presence
35:38of mind
35:38to delete her ring footage,
35:40to wash her tank top,
35:41to hide the gun.
35:43I never did believe her
35:44that she didn't
35:44remember anything.
35:46We were not sure
35:47if maybe this was
35:48just a tragic accident.
35:49So at that point in time,
35:51our goal was motive.
35:53Why?
35:53Why did you,
35:54why did you shoot Daniela?
35:56What happened
35:57in that car?
36:00Investigators speak
36:01with witnesses
36:02and review surveillance footage
36:04from the bar.
36:06A story of a bruised ego
36:08soon emerges.
36:11At some point,
36:13a gentleman comes over
36:15to Daniela.
36:16He likes her
36:17and he wants
36:17to get her number,
36:19but Daniela
36:20kind of brushes him off.
36:24But Yvonne
36:25was very handsy
36:26with him.
36:28Yvonne was trying
36:29to convince him
36:29to go home with her.
36:32He wanted no part of that.
36:34There was a huge
36:35age difference
36:36between the gentleman
36:37at the bar
36:38from Yvonne,
36:39about 25 years.
36:41So his response
36:43to Yvonne's offer
36:45was that
36:45you could be my mom.
36:52When she was passed over
36:54by this young man
36:55for Daniela,
36:56Yvonne was seething
36:58with jealousy.
37:00The drinking unleashed
37:02a monstrous rage
37:05in her.
37:06Despite Yvonne's
37:07irritating behavior
37:08throughout the night,
37:09Daniela is concerned
37:10about her.
37:12Seeing she is drunk
37:13and alone,
37:15Daniela wants
37:15to make sure
37:16she gets home safely
37:17and offers her a ride.
37:19This act of kindness
37:21turns out
37:22to be a grave mistake.
37:24There was a lot
37:25of video footage
37:26that was recovered
37:27from the world of beer.
37:28You can see
37:30that Daniela
37:32is giving everyone
37:33a hug goodbye.
37:35Yvonne points
37:36a gun motion
37:38and pulls the trigger
37:40at the same time
37:43as Daniela
37:43is walking towards her.
37:45And then they leave
37:46the bar.
37:48I think it's foreshadowing
37:50because Yvonne
37:51was carrying
37:52that night
37:53a 365.
37:54It was in her purse.
37:57Around 2 a.m.
37:58that morning,
37:59a nearby security camera
38:01captures Daniela's vehicle
38:03entering Yvonne's neighborhood.
38:08When Daniela
38:09pulls into the driveway,
38:11she has no idea
38:12of the danger she's in.
38:16Yvonne Serrano
38:17would have had
38:18to have gotten
38:18out of the passenger's
38:20side of the vehicle,
38:21then gone directly
38:23behind her
38:24and opened that door
38:25to the rear passenger seat.
38:26And after firing that shot,
38:50she tried to clean up the scene
38:51and move the victim
38:53out of the vehicle
38:53because she did have
38:55something to drink.
38:56She wasn't able to do it.
38:59It wasn't until later
39:01she called 911.
39:04After the interview,
39:06Yvonne was charged
39:07with second-degree murder.
39:11And then it was like,
39:12oh my God,
39:13Yvonne's been arrested.
39:14How could this have happened?
39:16What do you mean she did it?
39:19Well, this has to be
39:20an explanation
39:20why she did it.
39:22I think that Yvonne
39:24was very insecure.
39:26I think that she saw
39:28Daniela as a threat.
39:30Daniela was prettier
39:31and younger,
39:33stronger.
39:34I believe that
39:35she wanted to be
39:37what Daniela was.
39:39You never think
39:41that someone that evil
39:43can be right there
39:44next to you
39:45and with your group.
39:47She's evil.
39:48No question whatsoever.
39:52On June 18, 2024,
39:55Yvonne was convicted
39:56of secondary murder
39:58and tampering
39:59with physical evidence
40:01and sentenced to life
40:02in prison.
40:05Although Daniela's mother
40:07takes a small measure
40:08of comfort
40:09that Yvonne will never
40:10get out of prison,
40:12Iza Tavares mourns
40:13the loss of her only child
40:15and a life
40:17that could have been.
40:18Daniela gave love
40:38to every person
40:40she met.
40:41She touched
40:42everybody's life
40:44in different ways.
40:45Even if we can't see her,
40:49we can feel her.
40:50I feel her presence
40:51everywhere.
40:53I painted a wolf-sized mural
40:55of her
40:56and dedicated
40:58the PR bell to her.
41:01She was the biggest part
41:03of the community
41:04when she was alive
41:05and she's going to continue
41:06to be the biggest part
41:07of our community.
41:10On the next
41:11Mean Girl Murders...
41:13For most of us
41:14here in Alaska,
41:14having someone
41:15to help us escape
41:17was a big thing.
41:19You're not supposed
41:20to break
41:21these girl code rules
41:23if you got on her bad side.
41:24She made sure
41:25that you knew it.
41:26Don't be fooled
41:26by their age.
41:27They knew exactly
41:28what they were doing.
