00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on Sports Grid. We're going to bring in Keith Stewart. He's getting ready for the BMW Championship.
00:06But before we do that, very big win, of course, on the tour, Keith, for Justin Rose, who ends up taking the St. Jude Championship.
00:15I know you want to weigh in on that, and we definitely have to weigh in, unfortunately, on Tommy Fleetwood as well.
00:20But before we do all that, Keith, I want you to take a listen, I'm sure you saw this already, to a very thoughtful response on Rose after his win.
00:27This one felt quite stoic in the sense of determination, execution.
00:37There were kind of a few different agendas, playing with Tommy, playing in great spirits in that group,
00:46and then kind of turning into the playoff and then being that dynamic as there always is with USA, Europe,
00:51obviously Ryder Cup around the corner.
00:53But I just felt like I just stayed really calm with it all and felt very much just one foot in front of another,
00:59just didn't really... So all of the other stuff that was coming at me, I just felt like I did...
01:02I really deflected a lot. And because I did such a good of deflecting a lot, I think I deflected a lot of the emotion
01:07and the joy of the actual winning moment. So it was quite, in some ways, quite a calm win.
01:13Even though I think when I look back at it, it was pretty fire... You know, it was fireworks.
01:18You know, there were some great shots and birdies and putts and a lot to look back on.
01:22And I'm going to enjoy watching this one back, if I'm honest. But in the moment, I was pretty flat-lined.
01:27All right, let's bring in Keith here. And Keith, he did allude to one part of a conversation,
01:32which leads us to our next, as he did make mention of poor Tommy Fleetwood in that conversation.
01:38And I definitely think that, you know, look, Rose is going to want a championship.
01:43You know, Rose was undone in one of the majors earlier this year. So, like, he gets it.
01:48But he did make mention of Tommy Fleetwood, who I think we all thought going into the day
01:53had an excellent chance of winning this one. But it just keeps deluding.
01:59You know, it's interesting, Craig. A lot of times, people always look to the performance
02:04as a gauge of whether or not a guy is tight or whether or not a guy is nervous.
02:08Boy, you can really see it on Tommy Fleetwood's face.
02:11And then when it comes to the decision-making process, he is really indecisive.
02:15And that's one of those things that, when you're out there playing professional golf,
02:19that, you know, in a sport where you get to think about every shot,
02:22rather than just react to someone attacking the hoop, or, you know, maybe you're a D-back,
02:26you know, backpedaling and a guy cuts or something, you know, very quickly.
02:30You know, Tommy Fleetwood has all the time in the world to think about that approach shot on 16
02:35into the par 5, and then the chip shot, of course, the approach on 17.
02:39It just seems to me like his process has to be updated because his game is gone next level this year.
02:47I mean, he has a zillion top 20s every time he plays.
02:50He won back in Dubai, you know, like back in January.
02:53I mean, he's doing all the right things, but there's obviously some sort of thought in his mind right here
02:58that he needs to use a specific process in order to get over.
03:01We saw Cam Young do it at the Wyndham.
03:03We know Tommy can do it.
03:05He's that talented of a guy to do it.
03:08The time will come, but, man, this one was pretty brutal.
03:12Yeah, no, it was, I mean, nothing that anybody wants to see happen,
03:15especially to a guy like Tommy, without a doubt.
03:17But the BMW Championship, as you can see, that's where Keith is at.
03:21He's got the nice step and repeat behind him, looking good with the green.
03:24Speaking of the green, guess who's back again for this one?
03:27It's Scotty Scheffler, and I believe, if I'm not mistaken,
03:31from looking at the odds here on the FanDuel Sportsbook,
03:34I believe this is the biggest favorite he's been in any tournament all season.
03:37I have not seen him down to plus 225 or plus 230 in any tournament,
03:43and that's where he's at.
03:45Rory is plus 750, Xander 18-1.
03:47There's Tommy at 20-1, Ludwig Oberg at 22-1 as well.
03:52But I know you've got some news on this, and so I wonder if this will affect anything.
03:58So, Craig, as we went back to Memphis last week, on Sunday, we all know that Ted Scott,
04:03Scotty Scheffler, his longtime caddie, certainly during all of this three-year run,
04:07did not caddie for Scotty on Sunday.
04:09You know, he had a fill-in caddie for the day.
04:12And, you know, I think that that had part to play in Scotty in determining the outcome
04:17of that tournament because he finishes in third place just one shot out of the playoff,
04:21and he was walking off his own yardages and everything.
04:23Well, as it turns out, when I got here on property today,
04:25the first question I asked is, is Ted Scott going to be here this week?
04:28And PGA Tour comms let me know that he is not.
04:32He does not plan to be here.
04:33He's going to use Chris Kirk's caddie, who was there on Sunday,
04:36finished 51st on the points list.
04:38Mike Crommey is going to caddie for him for this week.
04:41So, you know, all thoughts and prayers go out to Ted Scott
04:43with whatever he's dealing with, the personal issue.
04:45But for sure, as you're handicapping this event, and you're right,
04:49that plus 225 is a low number.
04:51We've seen some plus 240s by the time Thursday morning rolls around,
04:54but a plus 225 and getting lower.
04:57Now with this news with Scotty that we broke this morning,
05:00I mean, absolutely, it's a consideration that the Dream Team
05:03is not together for this 50-man shootout.
05:06Yeah, a lot of underrated handicapping goes into the caddie.
05:10People don't even consider that.
05:12Of course, the majority of this is the player, no doubt,
05:14but the caddie, a big factor there.
05:16All right, so let's take a look at the latest FedEx Cup standings
05:19and how things were affected this past week.
05:21J.J. Spawn definitely with something to say about that,
05:24but Scotty Scheffler is still plus 225 to take care
05:27of the FedEx Cup championship.
05:29Rory McIlroy is 6-1.
05:31Spawn moves up to 30-1 after his great day,
05:34and Justin Thomas, 18-1 as well.
05:36That's our focus, Keith, as we head into the weekend.
05:38Absolutely, Craig.
05:41At this point, I would still pump the brakes on Scotty.
05:44As far as the FedEx Cup championship, I think that this is the point right now
05:47that if you've got a heavy lean this week for the BMW championship,
05:51this is a bomber's paradise where they're going to have part of a putting contest.
05:55If you've got a guy like a Cam Young or somebody like that
05:58that you feel like can roll through this thing,
06:00then that would be the time to hit that market because once they win this week,
06:04then certainly that number is going to get cut way shorter as we head into Atlanta,
06:07and then there's only 30 guys left.
06:09As far as playing Scotty at this point, 250, 225 to win the FedEx Cup,
06:14and then another 250 this week to win the BMW championship.
06:18For me, I'm probably going to go without the Scheffler market again this week.
06:21I do feel like the Ted Scott thing is a problem, but boy, oh boy,
