01:35And that might make all the difference in Jet not being able to catch Sexton in SMX seeding when ProMotoCross is complete.

03:46And the way that he approached the bike here for this motor that I personally have ever seen.
03:50And that might be the little fire under him right now that we're all talking about.

03:59Tomex able to hold him off for the moment.

04:03He's got to square him up, try to get back.

04:43And he's probably got more emotion in this race than he's had in a long time.

04:47But I also think him understanding how that first photo went, maybe if he was in front of Chase,

07:25I was talking to Lars Lindstrom about Hunter Lawrence.
07:27And why was it that we don't think he's done an overall win yet?
07:31And he said, well, of course, Jet is a big reason, big factor.
07:34He said, the problem is, is they're with each other all the time.
07:37They train together.
07:38They spend so much time together that Hunter can't develop, like, a secret
07:42or something to kind of pull the wool over Jet's head
07:44because they're always doing something together.
07:46I asked Lars, I said, is there any chance ever that they would separate,
07:50do their own thing?
07:51And he said, I mean, it's up to them.
07:53But really, it would go against the Lawrence family brain.
07:55They do things together.
07:56That's just how they operate.
07:58And so that might be something that would be standing between Hunter's win.
08:02Yeah, they've always said they're racing as a family,
08:04and they're going to be retired racers for a lot longer in their life,
08:09and they're going to be actual racers.
08:11So don't let this stuff get between them now.
08:14Sexton has Hampshire and Prado between himself and that lead group.

08:21And it would obviously be issues, just, you know, family issues.
08:24Because I think on the racetrack and helping each other,

08:36And, you know, Hunter, when somebody asked me that question,

10:24And this could be some signs of progress for the Spaniard.

14:05And I don't even know if the team can fetch that from the area in which he's left it.
14:11So, somehow, Chet Lawrence is not going to end up being the absolute worst day.
14:16Not the best for him with the penalty.
14:18But now he's long gone in the lead because Hunter has crashed.
14:21Yeah, you see all those runs and bumps.
14:23So, easily to happen.
14:25I'm assuming that, again, the way he went down.

15:19Tomac would be second on a day we're scratching our head after that first moto.

15:36But I'm thinking when those guys are charging, they have to hit the brakes.

15:57So, I, I really want to lean towards something going wrong on takeoff.
16:01For him to be that out of shape, that completely caught him.
16:04And another thing, you see the front wheel not in motion.
16:06Like, it's completely stable in the air.
16:09So, it was already locked up in the air.
16:10So, obviously, frustrated.
16:12But I think that caused the crash, not necessarily was a result of the crash.
16:17Yeah, you never see a front wheel not rotating in the air.
16:23So, Jed Lawrence, now with a big lead in this moto.
16:26It has been all sorts of shaken up here at the Ironman National.
16:31Right before that, he's looking over, trying to figure out what the heck is going on in this race.
16:35Yeah, these guys.
16:41Yeah, he's probably confused.
16:44K-Tip just laying there.
16:46Yeah.
16:47But I, I don't, I don't necessarily think that was, I think Chase ends up going down, you know, made a mistake.
16:54Those guys are locking up because it's not only the front tire was locked up, the rear tire, if you look.
16:58And those guys are charging into that jump.
17:00And I believe he just slid off of the bike, hit those bumps.
17:03Easy to happen.
17:04And then when he landed, I believe that's what probably caused the front brake issue.
17:09I don't think it was that.
17:12So, Tomac will get back in touch with him.
17:16And the legend here, the four-time champ, is second in this moto.
17:19He would be second overall on what appeared to be a bad day for him.
17:22But even worse with a big penalty for Jed Lawrence in moto one.
17:26And a huge crash for Sexton in moto two.
17:29And he might persevere at second overall.
17:32And with the way this day is going, imagine if something else happens until that ends up winning this thing with a bad finish even in moto one.
17:41There is Hunter Lawrence.
17:42And he's going to not jump because those red cross flags were flying.
17:48He just tapped all three of the jumps at the top of the hill.
17:50He's watching Hunter Lawrence here.
17:54And the mechanics in here in pit lane are desperately trying to relay the message to him that he needs to stay in third for this overall.
18:00There's no way Hunter can be doing math with all the chaos that's gone on.
18:04He has to stay in front of RJ Hampshire here to protect the lead against Tomac.
18:07I suppose, by my math though, he's got a little bit of a gap.
18:14He's got a four-point gap, so that would only cost him less than four if Hampshire were to get him.
18:20But he already had a crash, so you've got to keep digging.
18:22And you know, Hampshire will never give up.
18:25Yeah, I think, ooh, I was close right there on the track.
18:29It's getting very difficult.
18:29But yeah, they're just putting RJ up to second.
18:34If he gets around him.
18:37So this turn right here is where it all started to unravel.
18:44Hunter crashed right here, and then he got back on the track.
18:48And then, moments later, here, Sexton went for his wild ride.
18:54Sexton, by the way, lucky, appeared to be uninjured.
18:57Yeah, you can see how his bike was dancing off the face of that jump where Chase crashed at.
19:04So, probably a lot of things happening for J.C. Saul.
19:07Hunter go down.
19:08He's like, oh, I got this overall.
19:10And the next thing you know, he's on the ground.
19:12So, change of events right there in a few seconds.
19:15Well, through all this, Hunter in position for his first ever 450 pro motocross overall.
19:20Ten times he's finished second in this class.
19:23And he's actually third all-time in podiums without a win.
19:29The most ever is Andrew Short.
19:30That's 21 podiums, but never got it overall in this class.
19:33And then, Aaron Plessinger is 15.
19:35Hunter has 14.
19:37This could be his 15th podium, but it also could be his first win.
19:40And somehow, still half of this moto's left.
19:43It's a monster energy.
19:47It's available now.
19:49It's a crazy race.
19:50Yeah, and I saw him.
19:51Hunter almost crashed three times this lap.
19:54You know, it's not like he's overriding, but this track's gotten really difficult.

20:24And not in calendar years.
20:25I mean, he only started in this 450 division outdoors last year, but he's been so close so many times.

20:36He fought to the end with Chase, and he said he got a little tired, so he's got to be careful.

21:23I definitely believe that was bike bottomed out and rebound on him, and again, the key part of that, both tires were locked up on Chase.
21:30And really easy to happen because of how hard they were riding into that section.
21:35They're slamming on the brakes after going that fast, so hit something.
21:41Man, that was a tough break for him, literally.
21:43Yeah, and so Sexton, there he saw that amount of track distance, about 30 feet, maybe 20 feet.
21:49He had the overall sewed up, and then he went for his own wild ride.
21:53Just crazy what has happened.
21:56Yeah, Hunter Lawrence is catching Eli Tomac.
21:58Eli, right in front of him, get a wide shot.

24:19Talking with his mechanic, Christian Ducharme, at one point he had said that he's been with Jett for seven years,
24:24and he said it's really interesting to see Jett mature, not only as a person, but in his riding style.
24:30You take Washougal and how he bounced back and how he didn't get upset about, you know,
24:35some of the things that happened there and going down.
24:37And you can see his riding maturity and the way he's handling these situations.
24:41Also, how he manages and recovers.
24:44And I think, you know, Stu, you can talk about the recovery for these guys, the bounce back,
24:49and what that has to do.
24:50And JT, you too, right?
24:51Like, that's part of the game for these riders.
24:53It certainly is part of the game.
24:54And talk about evolving his riding style.
24:56James, did you see him put that line together down that straightaway, jumping over that bump?
25:01Yes, I did.
25:02Hayden did some things on the 250, and that deserves a lot of credit.
25:05But I didn't even know that line was possible.
25:07Jett just did.
25:08Well, I didn't either, but he just made it possible.
25:10But the two guys that are going to at least win the second moto, Jett hangs on,
25:14and Hayden Deegan winning at 250, you can see those things.
25:17That's the elevation.
25:18I think that's what separates them from everybody else.
25:21This track is really tough, and, man, he's got it figured out.
25:29So now Hunter Lawrence here at Ironman, catching Eli Tomac.
25:34Waning moments at the Ironman National.
25:38There will be two pro motocross races to go after this,
25:41and then the playoffs loom in September.
25:43And positioning the seating, you start with a couple of points to the good or bad,
25:47depending on how your regular season went, and that's been thrown all sorts of upside down today.
25:54Yeah, big, and in the way Hunter looked those couple laps, I think Eli kind of coming back to him,
26:00probably helping him stay away from RJ, because RJ has been about four seconds behind him.
26:04So now he has a tail he can at least focus in on Eli, probably keep him focused to wrap this thing up if he can hold on to it.
26:13Got to imagine by now he understands the map, and Sexton's done, and Jett's a non-factor for the overall today.
26:19Due to the penalty, second or third place should be good enough.
26:24Trying to get around Joey Crown here and put him a lap down.
26:27There it goes.
26:30He's got Tomek in his sights, and he still has five minutes and two laps to do some work.
26:34Yeah, I think it just helps him just focus in on the racetrack, not be so worried about that,
26:39because we see how difficult and easy mistakes, so Eli being in front of him locks him back in.
26:46Looks a little bit better than he did four laps ago, I like it.
26:49So Hunter's putting it back together here.
26:54Back straightaway now.
26:57That's the area where Jett got pretty creative last time around.

27:13with Tomek splitting them at the moment.

27:24USA-Captain America fight is going to have to show in October.

27:32Motocross of Nations coming to this track October 5th.
27:36And they'll have to take on these Aussie boys, the Lawrences and Kyle Webster.
27:41And that's the team that won it last year.
27:43And they got the same three riders back.
27:46They're running it back this year, Team Australia.
27:52Well, the charge is stalled just for the moment with Hunter against Tomek.
27:57Tomek actually a little quicker last time around.
27:59Again, Hunter does not have to pass him for the overall.

28:29It's Hunter Lawrence looking for the big win today.
28:41Well, a bit of a chronic moment.
28:43And as JT was talking about in the first moto, this is not a rider that rides the highs and lows of emotion.
28:48But it will be the first 450 win in this format.
28:51He won one of the SMX races last year.
28:54But we've been saying it actually all season.
28:56For Hunter Lawrence to become this good, he finally has the win.
28:59But he has been rock solid with all these podiums and battling Sexton for the title.
29:03Says a lot about the program, man.
29:05Because was he a good prospect?
29:07Yes.
29:07But I don't know how many people expected him to end up this good in the premier class.
29:12He's put in the work and he has delivered.
29:14He's definitely delivered.
29:15You go back to the year before he won the title in the 250 class.
29:21You know, he was getting really injured.
29:22And, you know, I saw the talent in the talk of Johnny.
29:25And I'm like, man, I actually think Hunter might be more talented than JT the way he was.
29:29But he kept getting hurt.
29:30Yeah.
29:31So he kept fighting.
29:32And you've got to think a lot of that goes from Darren having his brother around.
29:35Johnny O'Meara just keeping him focused.
29:37And that's what you're starting to see.
29:39Because he's got the talent.
29:41He's now, if he can hold on another two and a half or two minutes and plus two laps, get his first overall victory.
29:47And go back to last year, our XMS World Championship.
29:51He was one point from winning that title.
29:53And so as much as we're talking about Jet Lawrence and Chase Sexton and the points, don't forget about Eli Tomac.
29:59Don't forget about Hunter Lawrence.
30:00They're going after this title as well.
30:01So Hunter Lawrence, clock's ticking on what could be his first Pro Motocross overall win.
30:12A couple of the battles out of the track right now.
30:13You've got Barsha and Ferrandez.
30:15Barsha on the Rockstar Gas Gas.
30:17Ferrandez on the Phoenix Racing Factory Connection Honda.
30:21That is for eighth and ninth.
30:22A few riders that missed some time of injury.
30:24It's actually Ferrandez's first race back in a while.
30:28And I talked to Ferrandez real quick this morning.
30:31The city really needed this break.
30:332023, he raced the whole season.
30:36He said he was fighting the motorcycle a lot.
30:38He has really just not felt the same physically throughout last year and this year.
30:42So the break has helped him get the energy back.
30:47He's riding pretty well right now with Barsha right ahead.
30:51Yeah, good to see him both these guys back.
30:53I think Justin got around him looking at the lap times where Dylan's still fighting or what's going on.
30:59But nonetheless, good ride from coming back, missing all this season.
31:03Tough racetrack.
31:04Yeah, this is a 2021 series champion and a dominant run for Ferrandez.
31:12Waiting for him to find that old form.
31:13He definitely feels better today.
31:15And we'll see what he does at Unadillo next week.
31:17That's maybe his best track on this circuit.
31:20Would be fun to get him back up there in the front runners.
31:22He's got Shock, another solid run in 10th.
31:25Guillaume doing what he's done all summer, hovering around that top 10.

31:32And then it's Likershio, the Wildcat racing, Gaskas.

31:45Yeah, looking at that time in the score, Hunter Lawrence got around Eli Tomac.

33:25Yes, yes, neither on the podium penalty for Lawrence and a wild crash and then bike problems for Sexton.
33:32So that's going to be it.
33:33It's going to be Hunter, RJ and Eli top three today.

34:16It has been a great summer debuting on the 450.
34:19Start getting excited about playoffs, Supercross next year.
34:23We might have been sleeping on what potential he might have on this bike.
34:27Yeah, RJ has really impressed me this summer, and it's a good shot in the arm for that whole Husqvarna team.
34:33They had a tough, so far, tough season, not the results they wanted to.
34:38RJ came so close to that Supercross championship, went down with him and Tom Diallo and Seth Antmaker.
34:44So coming out here, we never really knew what we were going to get.
34:47We thought maybe we were going to get some RJ things happening, but, man, he's been solid on this.
34:51And if he can hang on to this, it would be good to see Nate Ramsey and the whole squad get a first podium of the year in this 450 class.
35:00Yeah, and remember, not only debuting on the bike, which is difficult enough, but coming off, had to get wrist surgery after that dramatic Supercross campaign.
35:08So he's coming back from injury while learning the bike.
35:10They've had to make changes week by week as the wrist gets stronger.
35:15He can run a little bit stiffer suspension, and then he gets faster, and they've got to do it again.
35:18So this is impressive.
35:19Yeah, and I don't know.
35:21I don't know if it's just his riding style of just RJ, but normally most riders are like, oh, he had wrist surgery before.
35:27He's like, man, that's impressive.
35:28But RJ, that's kind of what you expect.
35:29Yeah, it's true.
35:30You're like, look, man, he never gives up.
35:32He's a tough dude.
35:33So, yeah, he had surgery a few days.
35:34So what?
35:35He's out here riding, but.
35:37Yeah, he's done that multiple times.
35:38Yeah, he's out here performing and looking forward to 26th for him.
35:44Absolutely.
35:45Got to be happy.
35:46Had a prospect right in front of him, and that's going to be it.
35:50It's going to be Tomac third overall somehow.

36:06So let's talk about these battles.

36:17You can see Justin Cooper still going for it.
36:19Yeah, but I want to give a shout out to Jorge because looking at the timing, Justin was a lot closer to him the last lap within the second.
36:27So Jorge's got that fight, picking it up.
36:29Justin's closing back in on him, but it's not because Jorge's giving up.
36:33He's pushing that pace and making Justin have to work for it.
36:37One lap to go.
36:39Jet Lawrence aiming for the moto win.
36:42And Hunter Lawrence could put two second-place finishes together for the overall.
36:47And here's Jet out of the woods, literally, and maybe figuratively here at all.
36:54Yeah, if he finishes his photo off, yeah, like you said, he might be out of the woods.

37:01You know, it's going to be huge implications on the seating.
37:06You're going to gain points on Chase, but you're not going to finish on the podium.

37:13Only seven seconds down there at the end.
37:15And even despite a crash, I've got to imagine that Jet's a bit into cruise mode here.
37:20But either way, he's looking around.

37:34And you're not going to see any celebrations from Hunter.
37:36I was listening, and he was on the Gypsy Tales podcast way back when he was young.
37:39He was a teammate of Ferandus back in Europe.
37:42And Ferandus was trying to teach him freestyle moves,
37:45which I could not believe Ferandus was doing that either.
37:47And Hunter said he had one of the biggest crashes he ever had.
37:49And he said, I'm never taking a leg off a bike on purpose.
37:52Yeah.
37:53Ever again.
37:53Same thing as well.

38:22Coming back after a place where he lost the title.
38:26I mean, Chase wrapped it up last year.
38:28What a bittersweet.
38:31Haven't seen a 2-2 win overall since 2021,
38:34which is actually Ferandus.

38:38Yeah, he was chugging at the end.
