00:24raining on some of the track not all we got tons of thunderstorms yeah

00:37afternoon here at Mount Morris you're gonna get all sorts of weather it's not
00:42over moto to 30 minutes will the weather hold will the results change can jet
00:48Lawrence keep it going at the 18.
00:51Plessinger's fired up you can see there on the seventh toward the inside can Eli
00:56Tomac get a better jump than moto one it's time for moto two let's go
01:07Hunter Lawrence Justin Cooper up front Joey Sabacci finally a good start the 17 and
01:13there's Tomac going to the front he's got the lead Eli Tomac out front you can hear
01:20this crowd going wild Jeff Lawrence didn't get the best to start we saw somebody go
01:24down and right now these guys haven't had a chance to prepare for the rain so
01:28they really was on the gate thinking that might be a sun race and so for him
01:32Eli Tomac did the best job out front let's see what he can do because at this time it
01:37is right now the moment Tomac jumped into the lead is the moment the skies opened up
01:43it's making him open it up look at the lead he's built check out the start here his teammate Cooper
01:50Webb right side yeah you can see Cooper went left side in the front like he just loses his
01:56front easy to happen then all he gets ran over it you don't give a father's day gift for him like
02:01that a couple other guys going down but when you fall in the front of the pack that's easy easy to happen
02:07that was Freddie Noren there the international racing Kawasaki also down there rough start to
02:14the year for Freddie great start to the moto though for ET3 yeah now if I'm Eli with all this rain like
02:21I'm gonna try to build me a big old gap just try to hammer down before this track gets really slippery
02:27because the hard part is you can see Jet Lawrence way back in the pack and the way his stars have been
02:33that's way back in the pack I think he's outside the top 10 by me like Tomac I'm trying to get a gap
02:37because at some point you know Jet's gonna be more concerned about finishing this race and if I can get
02:43as RJ does a little donut right wow Jason you talking about a track that's going to be difficult
02:49to race all these shiny spots and getting slippery oh man vision again these guys went to the gate
02:56thinking it's a dry race so they have not prepared to uh you know prepare for this and I don't know what
03:02they're complaining about because it's very dry in the booth right here James just talking about
03:08the goggle situation we talk about roll-off tear-offs for the mud but the rain there's really nothing you
03:14can do about that no it's nothing you can do and tear-offs are almost the worst situation if you get
03:19any water behind one of them you almost have to yank them all off because the way they're set up and so
03:24like I said these guys didn't go to the gate thinking that it was going to be a mud race and if
03:29anything like it continues it really gives Eli Tomac and these other guys an advantage to get a start
03:35yeah there's a couple things they can do I'm thinking about sometimes they'll have the extended
03:38visor on the front of the helmet if they know it's going to rain but I don't think anyone has it
03:42because it wasn't raining until about 15 seconds after the gate dropped and you see Plessinger ripping
03:47a tear off there it's Tomac Hunter Lawrence Cooper and here's Plessinger in fourth yeah and the hard part
03:54is it's like if it's raining at this point as a rider you just want it to keep flooding you know
03:59because you want it to slow this racetrack down what would be bad if it rains like this for another
04:03few minutes and then it stops because you'll still have the pace but this track is going to be ice cold
04:08ice slippery out here you can see all those shiny parts the fact that these guys are still jumping
04:13these jumps just shows how good it is the only benefit is that they all use the paddle tires so they
04:19get to use it and it it works out at this point uh well does it or are there some spots where it's
04:24actually bad those hard shiny spots as the paddle deep mud is great what about that yeah well I just
04:30think because it's it's hard shiny it doesn't necessarily work on a hard spot but if you have
04:35the normal traditional tire that thing is going to fill up with mud so oh okay the tire uh the paddle
04:39tire spits that part out Katie yeah and you guys might remember earlier when AP was beaming with the
04:44fact that he was with that moto one and all the fans he was like man I just wish it had been
04:48a rain race and of course he's getting his wish right now this is one of those areas that he
04:53excels in and in fact this track in particular the team was saying a little bit of panic initially
04:58when he came to it and this as he goes off just a little bit there but you can you can tell that
05:02he gets much more excited when it's one of these rain down and dirty type of tracks well Katie a lot
05:08of the fans here grew up watching him races from Ohio not too far away and his dad Scott the AMA
05:14Hall of Famer great mud rider in his own right I'll tell you that Ohio clay nothing nothing is
05:20worse to ride in mud than that it gets so slippery so these conditions right up the alley for the
05:26Plessingers and he's putting the heat on Justin Cooper right now yeah the rain's starting to slow
05:31so it's allowed this track this throws it's gonna be super slippery but it's still racy and and at this
05:36point if you don't have the roll off off you want to be in front of guys you don't want to be behind
05:40Justin Cooper that close but you know same thing we talked about with Jet Lawrence in the first moto
05:45because the way he rides I think this track's not going to change too much for him it's going to be
05:49very technical got to be super patient and you can see Aaron Plessinger ripping a tear off now
05:54down and it's stopping raining on this side of the racetrack so a lot of different things happening
06:00at the moment now by the way as we watch Plessinger and Cooper fight for third Jet Lawrence not making
06:07much progress at eighth at the moment oh there's Plessinger up the inside yeah nice line short time
06:13but yeah Justin was able to carry that momentum around the outside just basically continue rolling
06:19down Aaron see how slippery this thing is still a little bit of dust showing so this water's just
06:25sitting on top of his racetrack making it super slippery and because Jet is not advancing toward the
06:31front right now Hunter Lawrence is in position to win the overall and believe it or not that would
06:37actually be his first 450 pro moto cross win it was close so many times battling with Chase Sexton
06:43last year never got one Plessinger has been close so many times to passing Justin Cooper hasn't been
06:50able to do it and finally does yeah but don't sleep on this number seven KTM Aaron Plessinger because
06:57you know right there just shows you that by kicking around loose but Aaron throws those long legs out
07:02and that's probably why he's so comfortable in this position because you got to be comfortable being
07:06uncomfortable and you know Aaron Plessinger knows how to make anything work and when these tracks get
07:10conditions like this he loves it when in doubt throw them big old anchors out both of them
07:16sit on the seat put some weight on that thing and that is what we saw at Foxborough Supercross
07:24earlier this year the art of racing in the rain he just threw those legs out and powered his way to
07:29the wind there is Hunter Lawrence in second you see the overall score right now on the lower left
07:34it would be Hunter over Tomac over Plessinger can Plessinger run Hunter Lawrence down
07:41and just still back there in seventh now he's got around Cody shock and Ben raw patcher L and as I
07:52said in the beginning this actually happened literally half the track it's raining and Heather half it is
07:58not yeah and we saw what Jeff was in this position earlier this year at hangtown we were wondering like
08:04all right how much is going to push and try to catch these guys well I think Jeff you know age and maybe
08:09the injuries he's just going to continue doing his thing I think he'll just continue marching his way
08:14up let's not turn a you know a seventh place into a 13th or 20th place and the only way that can
08:20happen is you just try to over route this racetrack if you methodically pick your way up through this
08:25racetrack just like you did in that first moto you have the pace on these guys you can at least get back
08:29up to possibly that top five maybe even a podium as this race going but if you throw it down
08:34it's going to be losing more than just this race
08:36yeah we're talking about all the wins he has but the main goal of course is the championship so how
08:44will he play it and it is wild to see them literally riding in and out of the rain depending on what part
08:51of the track they're on there's tomac nearly a five second gap now oh this track is going to get
09:00so slippery and again it was wasn't raining in the shot that we were showing jet launch but over
09:05here it is so oh eli came prepared with the real loss wow
09:12all right smart move there so the 32 year old out of colorado should be the second moto win of the
09:22year if he can hold it as you're watching him on the parts unlimited leader cam but can he get the
09:28overall it's all hanging in the balance at least as of now between tomac hunter lawrence and
09:33plessinger but then of course if jet moves up that can change the mouth as well
09:39yeah these guys are so close and right now this this gap that eli has about five seconds over
09:46104 and a half seconds he's going to just try to manage that gap but his ap he's going to have to
09:51try to do the damage to move up otherwise as you said like hunter law is still going to be able to walk
09:55away with this overall victory and i don't know how many positions jet will be able to make up to
09:59close that gap because hunter finish second so at this point um you know these guys just got to
10:05continue racing it's still a long ways to go 20 minutes left
10:07and just like plessinger moto one crowd loving tomac leading this
10:14send it back down well after that last moto i went over the team and said hey what happened how's the
10:21vibes over here and the team kind of scratched her head said it was a little puzzling that moto eli
10:26tomac coming in fifth remember guys at the top of the show he told us he told us the number one goal
10:32is for him to stay off the ground so he can stay on two wheels obviously this is a track that is
10:37difficult as stew you're leaning into difficult to do so but that's his main goal to make sure he does
10:42get the job done yeah and i'm sure what they were a little puzzled at was that how quickly he was able
10:48to close on justin cooper running at 204 which was the fastest lifetime of anybody and then to get
10:54stuck there almost brings you back to the eli tomac back in on the kawasaki days before he
11:00came the champion that he is so um you just wonder yourself as you're watching hunter lawrence
11:06starting to close the gap a little bit on eli um you just start to wonder like where did that come
11:11from because this guy usually should be able to if he's got that pace you should be able to get
11:15around him and people around you shouldn't affect you that much and obviously it did um i think
11:19it's just more frustrating from eli as for hunter here who like you said is starting to close on
11:25tomac did they make a lot of progress with the motorcycle we checked in with him about that
11:29yesterday yeah it was a lot closer last weekend and uh a big thing in the first ones we we were
11:35working a lot on the motorcycle just familiarity uh wasn't willing to push it past a certain point
11:41in and just not sure what the motorcycle was doing and and we've made a lot of progress on that so
11:48just honestly this week was just getting laps under my belt you know last weekend we tested
11:52leading up to thunder valley thunder valley was the first full day of riding on that suspension
11:57setting which was awesome this week we got two more days on it so yeah looking forward to going
12:02out and riding my bike the team did an amazing job and we got the bike in a lot better position
12:06and uh extremely thankful to have a group of great people behind us
12:10and what was interesting hunter's comments after the race last week as he rides back into this rain
12:16there's jet catching savachi now for sixth so hunter said yeah jet's just a freak he can get on a bike
12:24for the first time and just win a race on it immediately i need some laps some days to just get used to it they
12:30haven't touched the bike since last saturday and obviously hunter has adapted well now jet looking to
12:35make a pass yeah you know and i think that just comes with age you know jet's a little bit younger
12:40it's like you know when you tell your kids like don't touch that stove and they're gonna touch it
12:43anyway like look i've burned myself i know how hot it is when i think jet's just younger and he's like
12:48you know what i'm gonna still go win where hunter you know just an injury and it is flooding out here
12:53right now um you know he just takes a little bit of time to uh you know just prepare and i guess
12:59you know make sure everything is right and when it is right he can come out here and possibly have
13:05his first overall victory of the year um but it has to be right and he has to be comfortable as jet
13:09jet lawrence makes his way up now puts him on the podium tie with eli for uh second place but eli's
13:16obviously ahead of him so he'll give him a nod so that's two points that jet has just made up he
13:20passed the bocce on the quad lock honda and then the monster kawasaki of anderson he's looking up the
13:26track justin cooper is four seconds up ahead at the moment hunter lawrence would have the overall
13:32first ever for him on a 450 if he can get it done yeah jet's gonna continue moving up as i mentioned
13:40you know just let this race come especially with all this rain there's gonna be mistakes made from
13:44the guys in front of you pretty easily and i feel like even with um hunter lawrence he can probably
13:49close in on eli quite a bit when it's a mud race it's always it's really easy to make time up you know
13:55and the hard part is making that pass so he just continues doing his thing as we're watching the
14:00lead come down up the um up front to 208.8 seconds jet lawrence is starting to close on
14:06the hunter uh justin cooper as well see if he can make his way around and that would change a lot of
14:11things yeah be a 1-5 for jet lawrence right now
14:17which as we mentioned be tied for second overall with tomac but tomac has the second moto tiebreaker
14:27but we're not even at the halfway mark so anything could happen also with hunter starting to close
14:32on tomac that could change things as well
14:35because if for example jet were to get all the way to third and hunter were to finish second
14:44the 1-3 would beat the 2-2 so jet still has a shot at it even if he doesn't
14:51pass hunter but he needs to get cooper and plessinger that's not going to be easy
14:55yeah but he's got a really good pace and i think the way he's riding consistency is going to end up
15:01winning out if he could just turn these solid laps in as i mentioned the mistakes would be made and
15:05and he's within nine seconds of aaron plessinger so if he can get around justin cooper and not stall
15:11out you know then he can continue doing that maybe he can have a chance to get to that third place
15:15because then that would really change it so overall victory is still on the deck for
15:19jet lawrence if he keep moving forward
15:21now one other thing to note the rule book says that if a race had to be called due to weather
15:28if it's called past the 20-minute mark the results stand as if it was a full moto we're about
15:34five minutes away from that so we'll see if it gets there then if the race had to be cut short
15:40that would be extreme weather lightning things like that that's not the case at least at the moment
15:45you know we talked i said in the first moto jets one of the best i've ever seen like you know
15:49one adapting to the track but you know his line selection is better so he was going really far
15:54inside on a lot of corners now he's going outside on a lot of the corners and the reason he's doing
16:00that is because now you know we talked about the paddle tire not working on this hard stuff
16:03best place to be at is in this bluff so you notice he basically totally switched his lines
16:08yeah he was totally inside last lap inside and even the corners before that he's going outside that's
16:14what he's so good at doing it's just an adaptive situation because these lines are not a difference
16:19than he was early in the race but earlier today kids got it going for him halfway through the final
16:27race of the day a reminder that monster energy is available at bfs foods okay so lawrence has
16:35caught cooper but can he pass him in the mud yeah and he's going to have to get around him pretty
16:40quick because you can notice he's starting to pull a lot of tear offs out there and eventually
16:43he's going to run out and then with all this but we saw what happened when you pull your tear offs
16:48off we chase sex in the goggles you know this ain't the track any of these race tracks you don't
16:53want to have to deal with that so jet's going to have to be mindful of this as i think he tried
16:57pulling tear off and he doesn't have it might be a problem at this point uh yeah did he just try
17:04again yeah no dice they usually do i think he just pointed to his uh uh mechanics let him know he
17:12doesn't have any tear offs at this point and now the rain's stopping that's only going to make the
17:17mud stickier right yeah that's only going to make it worse for him because now when he gets hit with
17:20it it's going to be that sticky mud it's going to be tough jt yeah just wondering what the plan is
17:25going to be here you saw him run out of tear offs and he's just wiping the goggles which it can work but
17:30it's not really a strategy right so we've seen this we saw chase sexton loose his goggles the
17:35very first race of the year and how that went so jet now has a decision to make for the rest of this
17:40race yeah i mean once you you can only get away with that one or two times and especially when it
17:45stops raining you'll have one wipe and that mud's going to smear across and then it's going to harden
17:49up because of the wind and all that and then it's not going to come off so eventually he's going to
17:54have to make a decision and the decision he's got to make might cost cost him overall because at this
17:59pace if he if he rides like this i think he'll eventually catch up to erin flessinger but if he
18:04pulls in i think he'll lose too much time with as much time to go so very interesting decision he's
18:09going to have to make if he ends up pulling this um goggles off and you can already start to see him
18:14backing off of justin cooper maybe vision problems or maybe trying to save the vision by not being so
18:19close to him and passing when you have an opportunity when you know it's an opportunity to pass
18:23winters will run 21 sometimes 28 tear-offs they come in uh packs of seven they say i don't know
18:33if uh what they were doing when you were racing um when you put the 28 on there it's pretty hard to see
18:38when the race begins right yeah it's that thick no it it starts to get thick i mean you're putting
18:43laminate over his deck uh jet duck in his head if i'm just cooper i wouldn't be surprised start racing
18:50let him know give him a little bit of roost no goggles out there and that's attacked it as well
18:55but oh it didn't work yeah shit easy pass easy pass he was caught out but justin cooper as he pulls
19:01another tear off you got to get back in front of him if you can well that was the best case scenario
19:07for lawrence around cooper and way wide of him so no roost so now jet lawrence up to fourth
19:14yeah i doubt at this point aaron's right in front of him so even all that we're watching he was able
19:20to close this uh close that time and he saw him take a look over i don't think he's going to be
19:25pulling in the pits at this moment uh katie yeah first and foremost christian dujarb who's uh holding
19:30his pit board his mechanic was just over at their truck pulling out some extra goggles kind of put
19:36them back it's now back over at the pit board so i think that they're trying to figure out what to do
19:40with jet regarding the goggles as well but they do have a second pair sitting out in the truck
19:45meanwhile justin cooper's pit board was saying justin kip's pit board was saying that uh focus is
19:51number seven right ahead of you so he has his eyes set on aaron plessinger well he did by the time he
19:56came back over the hill though jet was between them here the last three lap times and yeah about
20:02two seconds three seconds a lot quicker is jet lawrence and aaron plessinger last three times around
20:08yeah well i don't know if i'm looking maybe it's just a our shot but it looks like um um aaron plessinger
20:15i don't know if he has no goggles on um so that's going to help jet off air yeah aaron threw his
20:20goggles off as well so that's what he was uh you know closing in so again if i'm jet lawrence you know
20:26the only way i'm pulling in if i start losing time and i think the honda would make that decision if
20:31somehow he can't get around air because he doesn't have any goggles then he'll pull them in but right now
20:35aaron doesn't have anything so just stay on this stay on this road and it's going to put you in the
20:40overall position at this moment if you can get around to number seven here that's what it would
20:46take a one three he could make this pass got some room around the outside leg off for plessinger
20:58can't get it done oh a rider crashes right in front of him that bails plessinger out for the
21:04moment oh but then he hit that pothole there it is james yeah there it was i mean you would think
21:10that rotter and i think that's all set up there not having any goggles probably had his eyes closed
21:14and he hit that pothole but that changes the overall position and if i'm jet lawrence definitely not
21:19pulling in at this moment no katie yeah over here with uh ktm and of course right now the second pair of
21:26goggles for ap are in the hands of the team they said that if he needed a change of goggles at the
21:31beginning of the race prior to the race starting they said let me know a lap before and jay burgess
21:36his mechanic was just over here nodding saying we think he might be coming in and katie looks
21:41like they're waving off the rest of the mechanics to get some room this could be for safety as much
21:46as it is for result right now but jet lawrence that pass it's going to give him the overall again
21:52yep overall and at ktm i do believe aaron will pull it because he's going backwards and there's
21:56no fight he won't be able to fight and if anybody should be you know worried about that it is the ktm
22:02they just had their that's right their champion and chase sexton go out with those goggles so
22:09well done carlos with the goggle swap
22:13that's lightning quick that was lightning quick they did even a wipe
22:16wipe it up so they're like go go go put him on let me go so and that's justin cooper right in front
22:23of him right here with no goggles as well so this could pay off
22:30oh couldn't make the quick pass though yeah but he's he's in a good spot now he has goggles
22:35justin doesn't have it so you know justin's playing with uh just a moment a matter of time
22:41before aaron gets done if he doesn't make any mistakes so tomac still leads the moto but he's
22:48looking at a 5-1 and now we go back to that final lap of moto one cooper plessinger tomac were all
22:58battling had eli got there had he got the third he'd be sitting in position with the overall instead
23:05it's going to be a 5-1 instead of a 3-1 yeah tough tough it just seems like no matter what if eli is
23:13able to hold on to this it's like yeah you want to race but you you still didn't win it he's going
23:18to look back at all these like man i i had him especially being as fast as he was being on justin
23:24cooper as early as he was he should have been able to get around there but nonetheless that's why we go
23:28racing these guys are good if you don't have it all together you're gonna get past justin cooper
23:34fighting hard even without the goggles making it difficult on plessinger here
23:41somebody's not happy some revving going on for sure oh look at this
23:50good thing he has the goggles for that that would have been a definitely pulling into pins
23:55yeah i remember back in the day i used to get so frustrated like aaron makes a mistake right there
23:59i used to do this i'm sorry all the lap riders i used to take them out because it was so bad
24:04oh they're going to call it red flag that would have to indicate worse weather is in the offer
24:13and if it ends like this it will be another jet lawrence win
24:19making the pass what two laps ago yeah yeah that was everything tomac's going to win the moto second one
24:26this year and somehow the overall the red flag works out in jet lawrence favor again
24:34and there was no podium and uh i think he just found that out yeah no he he did i mean whatever
24:44so they're going to call up with seven minutes to go
24:53imagine that means the uh whether it's going to get worse could be a safety situation
24:56lightning within a certain distance from the track and that will do it
25:05and those are the rules if lightning is spotted within eight miles of the track
25:09it's called it's done lawrence made that pass two laps ago and that one three score
25:17is going to be one point better than his brother hunter who ends up two two
25:22while the day present right there baby
25:24there lawrence either way they go one two hunter that close to his first ever overall
