00:00Welcome back here, KTM keys to the Moto for 250 Moto2.
00:24James Stewart, what do these riders need to do?
00:26Well, it's only gotten hotter, so these guys are going to have to manage the heat and then adjust.
00:29They don't get caught up in a rut like that first Moto.
00:32Track should be a little bit drier, but you got to adapt just like Hayden Deegan was able
00:35to do.
00:36He certainly was in Moto1, 30 minutes and two laps, 40 riders on the gate, fly racing, 32nd
00:42card is up.
00:43Shimoda, the one rider, keeping a little bit of heat on Deegan in the championship.
00:47He'd won two of the previous three races, but Deegan got Moto1 earlier.
00:51Now, Moto2 is underway.
00:56And Deegan, able to get the drop on Shimoda and the rest.
01:01And he's going to whole shot Moto2.
01:04Bial's right there in second.
01:06Yeah, better start by Tom Bial, Joe Shimoda.
01:09Oh!
01:10It was flying.
01:11Which one of the monster star Yamaha riders was that?
01:13I think that might have been Moseman.
01:14Yes, it was.
01:15Goes from third to probably 40th.
01:18I hope he's okay.
01:19Yeah, I don't know if he got hit by the handlebar, but Hayden Deegan, this is exactly where you
01:23want to be in front.
01:25Joe Shimoda.
01:26Joe's going to have to make short work if he's going to have to go out there to number
01:28one, especially after that first Moto.
01:31But yeah, that was Moseman that went down.
01:33Yeah, only rider on the team that runs the neck brace, that was Moseman.
01:36And you've got Harrop with a good start.
01:38And Hamaker, here is the battle right now.
01:41And it is Shimoda taking it from Bial.
01:44Yeah, nice move by Joe.
01:45He knew those lines were going to play out and if Tom didn't shut him off, he was going
01:48to be able to go up the inside.
01:49So for him, he's got to go to work.
01:52Saw how good Hayden's lines were in that first Moto.
01:54So Joe probably went back, watched some video, talked to Lars and said he got to switch it
01:58up.
01:59Now he's going to have to have the pace because he had it in that first Moto.
02:02Yeah, although Deegan caught him, you thought that Shimoda had something.
02:05It was just lines.
02:06Well, Joe was the fastest.
02:07He was the only one in a 204.
02:09Hayden was a 205.
02:10So he has the pace, but it worked out.
02:12Hayden adapted better.
02:13Joe's giving him a run here on lap one as they head to the highest speed section of
02:19the track coming up here.
02:21Yeah, you can tell Joe, he wants some action right now.
02:26I think Hayden's probably understanding Joe's there.
02:29Don't worry too much.
02:31Just don't make a mistake here early in the Moto.
02:36Got more shadows in that section.
02:37And Diao going to run with him here as well on lap one.
02:41Shimoda throwing everything at Deegan.
02:43Yeah, I think Hayden's being really patient.
02:48Right now trying not to do it.
02:50He's going to hit this jump.
02:52Cindy, what do you see?
02:53Yeah, well, actually, just talking to Ben Griffith, Joe Shimoda's mechanic, I said, how did he
02:58feel after that first Moto?
02:59He said, totally fine.
03:00He liked the bike.
03:01He said, the problem was is Joe didn't adapt to the track fast enough, well enough, where
03:06Hayden was faster and smarter in Moto number one.
03:09And if that's the way Hayden was in Moto number one, Joe has work cut out for him.
03:13Yeah, but to Joe's, you know, to help Joe out, he wouldn't know, you know.
03:17So he's out front.
03:18Hayden had to adapt because he was getting pulled away.
03:20So it'd be hard for Joe to know where Hayden would be better or change his lines.
03:25Because you're like, I'm pulling away from this guy.
03:26But good to see Joe.
03:27As I mentioned, his attitude would be the right person to come back out here and fight Hayden,
03:31not be too demoralized after that.
03:33And you can see it.
03:34Just saw Moseman come through.
03:37He's back on the bike after that early crash.
03:39Got Vial, Harrop, DeFrancisco has moved around Hamacre to fifth as Shimoda continues to zero
03:46in on Deegan.
03:47It almost seems the way this track is playing out.
03:49Just like the 450, it might be better to be in second right now compared to leading it.
03:55It seems like the guy in second can follow the guy's lines in front of him and see where
03:59it works out at and then try to attack.
04:02Because Joe's staying there.
04:03His lines are better so far right now.
04:09Good fight for the lead early here at Moto2.
04:13And again, the points are so critical.
04:15Deegan is right on the edge of being in position to wrap the title up early next week at Unadilla.
04:21The 51-point lead that he has right now, if it ends like this, if his moto ends like this,
04:27that'd be enough to wrap it up if he had a lead like that at the end of next weekend.
04:32Shimoda could claw some back here, though.
04:34Yeah, Joe, nice shot from the drone.
04:38Joe has some really good lines, especially this last section.
04:41Track's definitely drawn out more, so...
04:44Uh-oh.
04:45Bummer for Jalik.
04:46Oh.
04:47Jalik swole out of this one.
04:48Had some good motos going.
04:51Strong early at Moto1.
04:53Wasn't able to carry it to the end.
04:56Oh, that line did not work for Joe.
04:58I think he went outside to set up to hit that triple, but he missed it.
05:04Hayden sensed that he was.
05:06Joe went to the inside that last lap, and now look at the gap.
05:08How about that?
05:10Deegan ends up going inside, gaining.
05:12He was outside from the first lap, gaining.
05:14So it worked out for Deegan both times there.
05:16Yeah, and that's just smart by Hayden, being aware.
05:19You can hear the guy behind you, so just kind of knowing,
05:22okay, that got closed in.
05:23I can hear his bike a lot louder in this section.
05:25I'm going to switch up my line.
05:26That's adapting.
05:28I don't know if that was a fast line, but it was definitely a lot smoother.
05:35He's had a couple of smooth ones.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Can he get Deegan back into sight?
05:40See the Yamaha starting to get away.
05:42And Vial still lurking.
05:44Yeah, that one section really got Joe Hayden got that gap, and this next lap is going to
05:56be very important for him.
05:58Yeah, is this that toe?
06:00He cannot lose this.
06:01Yeah, but this has been weird all year.
06:03Joe's been like the only rider that can lose that toe, but he just stays there.
06:07Like, Hayden knows he's going to be there.
06:09If he's just faster, he'll just eventually pull away, but Joe's not the type of rider
06:14that Hayden pulls away, then all of a sudden he starts running two, three seconds slower.
06:18He'll just continue that pace.
06:20Just might not have to be able to see where Hayden's better at.
06:23Might be tough for him.
06:26Yeah, so he doesn't get, kind of like you said as we see Vial here in third,
06:30at the end of that first moto.
06:31Joe just doesn't get demoralized in the same way.
06:33Yeah, I just feel like with Joe, I mean the first moto, he needed to be able to see Hayden's
06:37line.
06:38Yeah.
06:39But some riders need guys in front of them to get towed.
06:41You know, I always laugh at some guys, like I want a better start.
06:43Well, you put them out front, they don't know what to do.
06:45They're better towing.
06:46Well, Joe doesn't need that rabbit.
06:48Whatever his pace is and how comfortable, that's where he's going to go.
06:51So, whether he has the pace to catch Hayden, that's going to be all up to him.
06:55But he's not going to just drop off three or four seconds because he doesn't see Hayden.
06:58He'll keep going as we're watching.
07:00Hey, it's March Banks with a, can I constify this as a decent start?
07:03He's sixth early.
07:05I don't know where he was on lap one, but certainly better than usual.
07:08And seventh.
07:10Yes, he started in the top ten.
07:12Well done, Garrett.
07:13Let's see what he can do with it.
07:14Yeah, he probably don't know what to do with it right now.
07:16It's like, normally in this position, about ten minutes later.
07:21See the overall, if it ended like this, it would be Vial third, Shimoda second, and Deegan with the win.
07:26Harrop been riding so well this year on the triumph.
07:29And March Banks going to put some pressure on him, Katie.
07:33Yeah, and I was talking to him about why, back at Washougal, and he had that podium,
07:37why that was such a pivotal point in his career.
07:39And he said, it's so rewarding, but it's also so motivating and confident.
07:43It's building, especially with the things that have happened in his past, and trying to find a ride,
07:48and making sure he solidifies the deal.
07:50And just having those good, small victories really helped put him on the map.
07:55He also said something that's very different, and Stu, you can probably talk to this a bit more.
07:59He trains in California, where it's really dry heat.
08:02And he said, coming in after qualifying today, I talked to him, he just looked like a wet dog.
08:06And I was like, you good? You good, bro?
08:08And he was like, it is so hot.
08:10The humidity is killing me.
08:11And if you think about it, training, he's not used to that, right?
08:14He's used to the dry heat.
08:15How does that make an impact on someone like Garrett?
08:18Yeah, I mean, it does, but Garrett's one of the fitter riders out here.
08:21So, yeah, it might be hot to him, but I don't think that's something that he's going to pay too much.
08:25And, you know, Washougal, the way he's riding the motorcycle, the way he kind of rides,
08:29reminds me of Travis Preston back in the day on the 125.
08:32Those long legs, sometimes they just run these outsides, and they throw their legs out, and they carry a lot of momentum.
08:37And that Washougal, man, Garrett had such a good flow around that racetrack.
08:41He was just going on the outside, where here, it's a little bit different.
08:44So, I don't think he's feeling as comfortable today, even though he's, you know, trying to make his way up into four.
08:49But, yeah, it's going to be a long day on fifth, excuse me.
08:53Got Ryder D in fourth.
08:54Yeah.
08:55What'd you say about outside lines?
08:56It's what he's working right here on Harum.
08:58Yeah, the dry part of the racetrack.
09:03Oh, it's going to be close!
09:05Oh, I thought one of them was going down.
09:07Just able to hold onto it is Harum.
09:10Deegan, just showing you the leader there.
09:133.3 over Shimoda.
09:15We resumed the battle.
09:16It's in Harum and Marchbanks.
09:18And, yeah, shout out to DeFrancisco.
09:20Outside top 15 in Moto1.
09:24And now running fourth with that Rockstar Gascas.
09:26Yeah, just shows you what his star does.
09:28And he's going to have a hard time because he's lost the toe to Tom, so he can't see Tom.
09:33So, I think these two guys are probably start closing up on him just because he can't see that pace.
09:38Garrett's going to go back out to McHale right here.
09:41And Marchbanks talked to him yesterday.
09:44It appears he has re-signed.
09:46He's got a deal to be back on Kawasaki next year because there wasn't a lot of room over there.
09:51It wasn't that the performances were not good enough to deserve a ride, but they've got a lot of multi-year deals.
09:56Guys like McAdoo and Hamaker and Kitchen has re-signed.
10:00But I believe he will be back with this team next year.
10:04I haven't seen anything officially posted by the team, but it's the indicator that he gave me.
10:08And why not?
10:10This guy's been riding great all summer.
10:12Yeah, especially if he ends up third in his championship.
10:14Yeah.
10:15Shows you how many talented guys is coming up.
10:18Oh, again!
10:20Almost had the pass made.
10:21And now it's teammate Hamaker.
10:23Oh, look at this.
10:24No surprise.
10:25We've got four Kawasaki's in a row.
10:26This keeps happening this year.
10:28Flying information.
10:29Marchbanks, Hamaker, Kitchen, Drew Adams.
10:316, 7, 8, 9.
10:32Yeah.
10:33Couldn't see.
10:34Yep.
10:35Not enough.
10:36Gonna try again around the outsides.
10:41He's really working.
10:43He should have it up here.
10:44Keltzman really stingy.
10:46Now this line, he's gonna end up going outside off.
10:49Maybe he's gonna try to go in the middle.
10:51Watch this line from Garrett.
10:52He's gonna come back, allow him to go down.
10:56Got it.
11:06Okay, so Marchbanks locks it down, and he is not done, JT.
11:10Just watching this battle here, which we don't often get to reference basketball,
11:13but I was kind of thinking these would be the big men of their individual teams.
11:17Marchbanks and Har.
11:18If you've got Hamakers and Jordan Smith, your shooting guards over there,
11:22these are your two centers, your power forwards, if you will,
11:25because they are large individuals to be riding 250s, which you could look at,
11:29hey, it's a really big disadvantage at the moment, but long term,
11:32I think when they move up to 450s, it's really gonna work out for them.
11:35Yeah, larger motocross terms.
11:37We're talking about maybe 6-1, 6-2 for these guys,
11:39and they're catching one of the little guys, which is rider defense.
11:42Rider D Francisco will be waiting and waiting and waiting for Rider D
11:46to turn the speed that we have seen in qualifying at a couple of races into results.
11:51He's got a shot at it here, but Marchbanks wants none of that.
11:54Yeah, I'm coming to call Marchbanks a diesel shack out here.
11:57Chris Paul better watch out as he goes up the inside of him.
12:01And, oh, D Francisco fights back.
12:04Yeah, I'm going around outside, excuse me.
12:06Be around.
12:07Smooth by Garrett.
12:08And you said outsides are working for him.
12:10Yeah, just throwing the anchor out.
12:12But it's good.
12:13I mean, he's really loose on the motorcycle.
12:15I talked about it at Washougal, just his riding style.
12:17You know, doesn't really have a lot of stop and go.
12:19When he hits these bumps, almost like his body just gumbees somewhat.
12:23It absorbs and just keeps moving.
12:25And Marchbanks giving a lot of credit to Brock Tickle, former competitor out here,
12:30who became his riding coach and trainer midway through the Supercross campaign.
12:35And he has been a completely different man ever since.
12:38Riding so well as Marchbanks.
12:40D Francisco has got all sorts of heat.
12:42It's going to be Harrop and now Kitchen.
12:45Yeah, I spoke to Levi yesterday and he said, man, I love this racetrack.
12:49But every time I come here, I have one good moto and one bad one.
12:52So that first moto, hopefully it was a bad one.
12:54Have another good one here.
12:55I'm sure he wants to rebound.
12:57Tough going down early in that moto, but.
13:02And up front, three and a half second lead over Deegan.
13:05True to form, like you said.
13:06It's just every lap, another tenth or two.
13:08It's not huge chunks up front.
13:10Deegan pulling away.
13:12DeFrancisco holding off Harrop.
13:14Katie, what do you got?
13:15Now, going back to Levi Kitchen, what Stu was talking about.
13:17I talked to him also before the moto and he said, I know I'm fit.
13:20I know what I've got with the bike itself.
13:24But he said, something's been kicking my butt.
13:26I don't know if it's allergies.
13:27I don't know what it is.
13:28But he's been feeling it a little.
13:30He's been feeling a little under the weather here.
13:32Not as an excuse.
13:33He says he knows he needs to pull it together.
13:35But he does.
13:36But he does feel a little something that's not right.
13:40Yeah, well, that would obviously have an impact.
13:42But he fell in the first moto.
13:44But there was plenty of time.
13:45And was not able to make much happen.
13:47Ended up 14th.
13:48Much better here.
13:49It's just tough.
13:50But, you know, a guy like Levi, I mean, he came in with aspirations to win this title.
13:54So, you know, maybe not on the level where you talk about Eli Tomac.
13:57It's either I'm winning the title or I don't really care to really be out here.
14:00But Levi wants to be battling with Joe Schmodo.
14:02I hate Deegan.
14:03So, I don't know how much these fifth places are willing to hit the ground and take that
14:08chance.
14:09It's tough for him.
14:10But he's out here fighting.
14:12It's a great battle.
14:13Yeah, it is.
14:15And he's riding good.
14:17That was good right there.
14:20Yeah, he's starting to find the flow.
14:23I think these guys would be more used to this racetrack the way it is the second moto
14:28because it's dried out.
14:29This, to me, looks more like Iron Man years past.
14:32That first moto was really sticky.
14:41Battles continue here.
14:42Ryder DeFrancisco, Mikko Harrop, and Levi Kitchen all in one piece of real estate at
14:48once.
14:49Three-rider fight.
14:50This is for fifth.
14:51Yeah, we're talking about big man's JT.
14:53I'm going to call Mikko, you know, Mikko Tombo.
14:56No, no, no, no, no.
14:57The way he's going.
14:58Nice move up here.
14:59He's not letting anybody up the inside.
15:02Rejected.
15:03Here comes, around the outside, Kitchen.
15:07And that's what this 250 class is all about, man.
15:10It's just relentless.
15:12Guys so deep in the field, still charging hard.
15:15And Kitchen takes the measure of DeFrancisco.
15:18Yeah, that line right there allows him to close in on Mikko right here.
15:22So, for him, good confidence for Levi.
15:25Shout out to the fly racing athletes.
15:28We're in the gear there.
15:29That includes DeFrancisco.
15:30Just got pushed to sixth.
15:31Parker Ross, another run hovering around that top ten on the Bar X Toyota Redlands.
15:37Yamaha, 11th, his teammate Dylan Schwartz, 28th.
15:41I can almost bet you that Schwartz will be better than that by the end of the photo.
15:44He always charges hard at the end.
15:45Kitchen, not done.
15:46Going outside of him.
15:51Ooh.
15:52Yeah, he leaned it in there.
15:53He was trying to get that double.
15:55But you see how he's turning the bike down.
15:57He's starting to be a little bit more aggressive.
15:58Just a little bit of confidence being able to make that pass.
16:01Yeah, that's a little more what we're used to seeing in Kitchen.
16:04Yeah.
16:05That style.
16:06Hey, we're halfway through.
16:07A reminder.
16:08Monster Energy available now.
16:11And keep watching this battle, though.
16:14Haram versus Kitchen.
16:18Yeah, Garrett.
16:19He got away from these guys.
16:21I think those guys are starting to battle.
16:23They were really slowing each other down.
16:24Maybe they didn't open up.
16:27Haram, fifth in points, as I mentioned, in Moto One.
16:30And fifth in this race.
16:31He has been quite the pleasant surprise.
16:34Again, wasn't even supposed to race this championship for Triumph.
16:37But what a great move they decided to make by putting him here for the summer.
16:42And now we're hearing some rumors that it might not be a one-and-done season.
16:45Back to the lead.
16:46Deegan.
16:47And, yeah, every lap putting about two-three-tenths on Shimoda.
16:51That's it.
16:52But it's just enough.
16:53If you want to see more about Deegan and this team, you can get the inside look at Yamaha's
16:59factory-supported squads after every race.
17:01Go to at Yamaha Motor USA on YouTube.
17:04And that is their show, Beyond the Gate.
17:06Shows training during the week and what goes on on race day.
17:10Yeah, Hayden was able to open up the gap a little bit.
17:13This lad's half in his lap.
17:16But Joe's been a little bit quicker than him.
17:18That gap's been staying pretty much the same.
17:21Tom Biot was actually the fastest guy on the track the last lap.
17:24But Joe's continued there now that gap goes down to 2.8.
17:28Yeah.
17:29Hey, that's what you said.
17:30Joe wasn't going to give up.
17:32Joe never give up.
17:33And he's there.
17:35Let's see if Hayden gets the word.
17:37Cross flags out.
17:38No.
17:39Thirteen plus two to go.
17:41There's the 30 of Shimoda.
17:42And Bial's hanging tough.
17:44Also, you see him lurking.
17:46Joe's digging.
17:47Yeah, no, he's digging.
17:48And he was the fastest guy over at three tenths faster than Hayden.
17:52So Joe must have this part of the racetrack figured out before the finish line
17:56because that's where he's closing in on Hayden.
17:58Hayden might got the other part.
18:02Well, we're going to see.
18:05Oh, I think this part Deegan has thrown it down and pulled back away.
18:09There is the 16 of Bial.
18:11Wow, it is wild how much closer they were just a few sections ago.
18:16Yeah, just certain parts.
18:18Like you said, Hayden's got this.
18:20But even with Tom Bial, like he can't see those guys.
18:22He knows they're there, but tough position.
18:25But coming back from an injury, this is what I thought we would see all year long from Tom.
18:29So it's been a tough motocross season, but good to see him back out here
18:32and give him some confidence to finish off these next two races before we move in the playoffs.
18:39Yeah, it's been a relatively disappointing summer for Bial, the two-ton NXT champion.
18:45But getting it together here today.
18:48And we brace for the second half of this moto.
18:50And just like that, Bial had him nearly in sight.
19:00Stretched it just a bit.
19:02Yeah, Tom's in that danger zone.
19:05Now, the next lap or so, he doesn't stay there or at least close in.
19:09He might lose the toe.
19:11But certain parts of the racetrack said it looked like it opened up, but then Joe closes in.
19:16And the same thing in the lap before.
19:17So just whether it's a mistake or not, allowing these guys to make up Tom, Katie.
19:21Yeah, and it's good to have Tom Bial back on the bike, of course.
19:24He was telling me that during his break, he actually went to Miami Beach Guy.
19:28He went to some concerts.
19:29He said it was really a lot of rest and relaxation.
19:32And he said he actually needed it.
19:33That helped him kind of revitalize himself to feel fresh to finish out the season.
19:38I said, how comfortable are you on the bike right now?
19:40He said, well, we've been back and forth on some settings.
19:42It's not feeling the greatest, but it's good enough to be up front.
19:45And we're definitely seeing a different Tom Bial than maybe we did here earlier in this season.
19:50Yeah, absolutely.
19:51I mean, during the break, I actually went to the beach myself.
19:53Okay.
19:54So not a beach person.
19:55So it seems like everybody went to the beach.
19:57But I don't feel like not doing what these guys are doing out here today.
20:01I saw some sad on some motocross tracks.
20:03That's about as close as I got during the break.
20:05Stretch run for everybody here.
20:07But this is a big improvement for Bial.
20:09Now, remember, this is his return from injury.
20:12Crashed at Millville.
20:14Missed Washougal.
20:15So a nice bounce back for the Frenchman.
20:17There are some rumors swirling that he might end up going back to MXGP next year.
20:23And certainly missing if he does go back.
20:26But he made an impact in his three years here with two Supercross titles in 250 East.
20:32A little further back, Max Boland.
20:34This is just every darn moto.
20:35You'll find Boland right around that eighth place spot.
20:38Eighth of points coming into this race.
20:40And that is very impressive for that team that, again, they get bikes from Yamaha.
20:45But they don't have the full factory support.
20:47He's riding well.
20:48And he's caught Harrop.
20:49Yeah, no, he's caught.
20:50He's two seconds faster than his last lap.
20:52Kitchen got around Harrop as well.
20:54So Max almost ran in the bag.
20:57I think he was trying to square him up so he could maybe do this to him.
21:01Oh, he almost did, James.
21:03He should have the inside.
21:04He just gets through this run.
21:06He'll have the pass made because this corner continues to turn.
21:09There you go.
21:10And Boland gets it done.
21:12That sixth could be the season best for him if he holds on.
21:15No, Harrop wants none of that.
21:17Yeah, Max did a good job slowing down, making Harrop have to think and switch his lines.
21:22Good ride by Max.
21:24And we've told this story many times.
21:27Does not have the rear brake lever used with his foot like everyone else.
21:32Has to have a brake lever on the handlebars.
21:34Dating back to an injury from last year.
21:36He hurt his hip.
21:37The nerve damage doesn't have full feeling in his foot.
21:40So he has definitely changed the game there and riding darn solid this summer.
21:46Yeah, especially today.
21:47I mean, the way he's riding, you would wonder if he don't need a brake.
21:51It's great.
21:52Yeah, it's kind of been the story all year.
21:57Hey, got some news here for you.
22:00We know the SMX playoffs are coming up in September.
22:03And I'm always happy to talk about saving people some money.
22:07So $10 off tickets if you buy them between now and the conclusion of Pro Motocross.
22:12That's two weeks from now at Bud's Creek.
22:14Just scan that QR code on the screen or go to SuperMotocross.com or type in the promo code.
22:21SMX 3 TV for the $10 off.
22:25And we'll give it up to eight tickets.
22:27You can save up to $80 per event.
22:29Talking my language right there.
22:31Yeah.
22:32Can you handle this for a second so I can get this QR code going?
22:35You're two QR codes.
22:36People have been asking me playoff tickets.
22:37I'm like, man, hey, it's expensive.
22:38But thank you very much.
22:39I love it.
22:40Thank you, Jake for this.
22:41And help your buddies.
22:42Absolutely.
22:43Save money.
22:44But yeah, it's only going to last in the next two weeks.
22:46So get it done now.
22:47Join us at North Carolina.
22:49St. Louis or Vegas.
22:51Bolin powering through up the second kitchen fifth.
22:56So let's see what Bolin can do here.
23:00Again, it would be the season best for him.
23:02That muck off FXR Club MX team.
23:05And they've been grinding down there.
23:07A lot of guys ride there.
23:08Not just the team members.
23:09That's Jorge Prado was riding for a lot of the summer.
23:12And Lala Turner, who we just watched win the WMX overall.
23:16She rides with this group down there in South Carolina.
23:19Always elevating that facility.
23:22And it's a good story brewing.
23:25Well, just like that, Deegan has pulled back away from Shimoda.
23:30Largest lead of the race right now, 5.3.
23:32Yeah, well, Joe must have made a mistake this last half a lap
23:36because he actually was the fastest.
23:38He went three tenths faster in Deegan the last lap.
23:41So, ooh, that was close by Hayden.
23:47So I'm thinking Joe, by pushing it, must have made a big mistake
23:50because he lost three seconds in the last half lap.
23:52And it might be costly for him.
23:55Nice line choice by Deegan there.
23:57Just finding they're not outside of the track markers,
24:00but he is finding those edges.
24:02Just a few less pumps to deal with.
24:05Now he's going to deal with a lot of traffic.
24:07There's Brent Duffy, the mechanic.
24:097.9.
24:10Yeah, I don't know if it's that big, but, hey.
24:13Yeah, even Hayden, I don't think Hayden believed that.
24:15He had to look back at some.
24:17Like, what?
24:18Yeah, normally as a rider, you wouldn't look back at it.
24:20Mechanics tell you that when you just passed them.
24:22But he's like, hey, now you're talking about a nice line.
24:25That was a nice line by Hayden right there.
24:28Basically straightened that whole section up.
24:31You know, I talked to Brian, his dad, about that back at High Point.
24:34I really feel like line choice is really one of the areas where Hayden excels.
24:37And he's like, you know, I'm trying to teach him as much as I could.
24:40But he's like, I think that, a lot of that, you either got it or you don't.
24:43Yeah.
24:44No, I would agree.
24:45I agree with Brian.
24:46And like I said, that first moto, that was nice.
24:49A little move right there.
24:50A little flat track.
24:51Yeah, you think about the riders who can adjust.
24:54You know, Jet Lawrence, you know, Hayden, Deegan, they're figuring it out.
24:57That's why I was so impressed what he did that first moto.
24:59Because he wasn't faster.
25:00Joe had him cover.
25:01He adjusted.
25:02And it seems like the same thing has happened in this moto.
25:05He's figured out better lines.
25:06Joe was closing in.
25:07And he got it done, JT.
25:09Yeah, I 100% agree there, James.
25:11And it's like when the conventional lines go away, Hayden is able to kind of put the puzzle pieces together
25:17and figure out, OK, that line doesn't work anymore.
25:19How can I cut across there?
25:21How can I make this a straight line across so I don't have to slow down?
25:24He is so efficient when the main line starts to go away.
25:27And it's going to continue to serve him well as he moves to the 450 next season.
25:31Well, and JT, one step further, you know, of course, like, he's doing what he's doing here in the 250 class,
25:36but a lot of that's going to translate to the 450.
25:38And, you know, I think that's one thing that that team's excited about.
25:42But before they get to that 450, I asked Brent Duffy, why is that announcement important right now for Hayden Deegan?
25:48Why is this kind of a game changer?
25:51And he said, well, because he has six more motos to stamp his legacy in the 250 motocross.
25:56And I'm challenging him this weekend to say, how do you want to leave your legacy in the 250 class?
26:01What do you want to do?
26:02What else can you get out of this 250 bike?
26:04So maybe with that little extra challenge by the team and his mechanic,
26:08that's also letting him be the rider he's being on the track right now.
26:12Yeah, and I agree.
26:13And just looking at his lines, you know, the first moto, Joe had the half, beginning half of the race.
26:19He had it figured out.
26:20Hayden needed to figure it out.
26:21So it's easy to have to switch lines when you're getting pulled away from.
26:24But this moto, Hayden's out front.
26:27So for him to be able to switch in mid-moto and be like, okay, Joe's there.
26:31I got to change it up because I'm not getting away is more impressive to me.
26:35Because a lot of guys, just like Joe, the difference is Hayden, he's still adapting even though he's leading.
26:40And that's hard to do.
26:41You're like, I'm leading the race.
26:42How much better can you get?
26:43Well, Hayden's doing that.
26:44And even that last section, him before the finish line, opening up that whole racetrack.
26:49And it makes it smoother, but it slingshots him.
26:52And it's a better advantage through the whole section through the next one.
26:56And that's just super impressive to me, being able to adapt like this.
26:59And I agree with Brian.
27:00Either you got it or you don't.
27:01And the number one has it for sure.
27:03No doubt.
27:04And he also has a 6.6 second lead.
27:06Four minutes to go.
27:08Now, I think we've had this conversation before.
27:14Yes, Deegan has a bit of a challenge from Shimoda the last couple of weeks.
27:18We talked about you in 2004.
27:20You're last year in this class.
27:21You were dominant.
27:22You went all but one moto.
27:23How much is Deegan trying to improve to beat Shimoda?
27:26And how much is he taking lessons now to use for next year?
27:30Well, I think he has to improve to continue, like you said, to beat Joe.
27:35Joe's no slouch.
27:36You know, Joe is riding really good.
27:38So he's making Hayden have to elevate his game.
27:41Where I feel like in 2004, I was 40 seconds.
27:44I'm like, all right, today I'm going to win by a minute, you know?
27:47So it's a different kind of motivation where I think Hayden has to focus of when we came on the show.
27:52It's not over.
27:53Joe's riding really good.
27:54And if Hayden didn't adapt and didn't change, he was going to get beat that first moto.
27:59So Joe's making him a better rider.
28:02But it's also confidence for Hayden to be able to adapt during moto.
28:06So a lot of good stuff going on.
28:08But that's how good these two riders are riding right now.
28:11Yeah, he doesn't need to find motivation.
28:13Shimoda's providing it.
28:14Here's the all-time overall winners in this class.
28:17Deegan has 12 if he wins today.
28:19And one more he will be tied with.
28:21How about that?
28:22Jen Lawrence.
28:23Also Blake Baggett.
28:24And Brock Glover, who's a three-time champion of this division.
28:27Look at the name of the top.
28:28Yeah, I mean, I'm just so far out of it, you know, me and Ricky here.
28:33But I'm sure Hayden probably realizes where Jed is.
28:36Probably one of his goals to at least get to that.
28:38So he's like, look, I already had you covered.
28:40I'm a better 250 rider than you were.
28:42Now I'm going to come up here and serve notice to you under 450.
28:45So see that line right there with Hayden.
28:47Now that hole straightaway got him straightened up.
28:49And it helps him throughout this whole part of the racetrack as well.
28:52So really impressive.
28:53But Joe's still doing what Joe does.
28:55He's continuing to fight.
28:56And I think this is going to help Hayden because Joe doesn't fall off the pace.
29:00He's going to push him to the end.
29:02And it's going to be good when these guys go up here.
29:04Hopefully Joe continues this next year as well.
29:07Well, yeah, that's the other part of the story.
29:09So with Yamaha announcing that Deegan will race 450 starting outdoors next year.
29:14He's going to race 250 Supercross.
29:16I would imagine trying to defend in the same division that he won last year to run the number one plate.
29:22We'll see about that.
29:23But at this time next year, Deegan won't be in this class.
29:27So he's going to establish himself as the next title guy.
29:30Could be Shimoda.
29:32Could be the traditional front runners.
29:34You know, Kitchen has been good for years, for example.
29:36But there's always a young rider on the rise.
29:39Cole Davies.
29:40But I'm going to tell you right now.
29:41He comes back from his injuries.
29:42Yep.
29:43You know, Joe's been in this position a couple times where guys moved up and thought he was going to be that next guy.
29:48But to me, Joe's a little bit different now.
29:50When Hayden has a bad start or something, Joe wins.
29:53You know, and I think that's the difference from the past.
29:55You know, you expect Joe to be there.
29:57But now he's clearly the second best guy.
30:00When Hayden's not on, Joe's able to win.
30:02And that's a lot of confidence moving forward.
30:04But, yeah, these young guys, they'll be better.
30:07Cole Davies is going to be up there.
30:08If he comes back from injury, it's going to be fun to watch.
30:10Yeah, I hope we can get Davies maybe back for one of these pro motocross races.
30:14Had that huge arm injury at the Supercross finale, which ended a real Cinderella rookie pro season for him there.
30:21Hopefully we get the New Zealander back.
30:23You know what?
30:24It's the perfect example.
30:25If you watch Shimoda right now, you think he's winning.
30:27I mean, he's riding so well.
30:29Yeah, no, Joe's riding really good.
30:31But even this line, what's cool is Hayden was losing the time to Joe.
30:35Joe had this part figured out.
30:36Now Hayden switched his lines up.
30:38And you can see the difference.
30:39Joe wasn't as farther outside over that rhythm section.
30:43And it just slows his momentum down.
30:45So a little bit of stuff that he'll go back and work on.
30:47And I know if anybody will, it's Joe Shimoda.
30:49Got to have a lot of fights to be able to continue to do this.
30:52He was still looking.
30:53Still looking over.
30:54It's marked where Deegan is, even with a 10-second deficit.
30:57And that's, again, that's at an early part of the race.
31:00Joe's going to continue riding as fast as Joe can go.
31:04So you're not going to break him.
31:06He's there.
31:08The Al Marchbank's kitchen.
31:10Top five.
31:11Drew Adams up to sixth.
31:13And the anniversary of his pro debut last year.
31:16The young rider out of Tennessee.
31:18Then he's made the move on Boland.
31:21Check back in with Marchbanks here.
31:23Solid fourth.
31:25He's going to end up overall today just going to be fourth.
31:30Just on the podium.
31:31Because De'Al just one tick better than both photos.
31:34There you see the scores.
31:36It'll be Harrop.
31:40Drew Adams looking for sixth.
31:47Hayden Deegan powering down.
31:49As the clock ticks away.
31:51It's expired.
31:53So now two and a half laps to go.
31:57But the rider originally out of Temecula, California,
31:59like so many others, made the pilgrimage.
32:01Now Tallahassee, Florida is home for him.
32:04And that's where the work is put in.
32:07And he's especially good on these rough-roated tracks.
32:15As for Adams, I mentioned sixth in the moto.
32:17He would actually be sixth overall if it ends like this.
32:19That'd be a new career best for him.
32:21Checking in with Austin Fortner before the break.
32:23Was really showing some signs.
32:25Creeping back into the top ten.
32:27And riding 11th right now.
32:30He's in a battle with Nate Thrasher.
32:32But look at their improvement the last couple of weekends from Fortner.
32:36Yeah, Austin is riding really good and getting better all year long.
32:40And, you know, talking to him a little bit.
32:42Sometimes he's still dealing with some injuries.
32:44So, for him, sometimes these motos a little bit harder to hang on.
32:48But he's still fighting.
32:49Saw him make a last corner pass, that first moto.
32:53Another bad start in his second one.
32:55Good to see Nate up here.
32:57Yeah, they were close to moto one battling again.
33:00Actually, 250 class.
33:01Yeah.
33:02There's a battle out there somewhere.
33:03You know, and speaking of the young guys, you just mentioned Drew Adams getting sixth.
33:07Yeah.
33:08You know, last year he made his pro debut here.
33:10So, it's not, you know, not surprising that he comes to a racetrack that he's familiar.
33:14Yeah.
33:15And he's showing some pace.
33:16He was able to get around Bolin and Mikael and even his teammate Handmakers.
33:21So, next year he's going to be one of those guys that's more comfortable.
33:25And looking at our screen, we've got a battle for fourth place.
33:28Levi Kitchen has caught his teammate.
33:30Oh, Kitchen.
33:31Kitchen at Marchbanks just up ahead of this.
33:32And Parker Ross, by the way, eighth.
33:34This guy has been just locking down top tens week in and week out.
33:38It's his first full season as a pro.
33:40Well done, Parker.
33:41Well done, Thrasher.
33:43Keeping the heat on Forkner right now.
33:46Got the pristine auctions triumph versus the monster Yamaha star racing machine.
33:51There's the teammates.
33:52There's Kitchen.
33:53There's Marchbanks.
33:54Yeah, Levi, I like this.
33:56A lot of fight for him.
33:57This second moto rebounding.
33:59Going to get his teammate right here.
34:01Got to always beat your teammate.
34:03Oh, that was slick.
34:05Kept the bike low to the ground on that single.
34:08And just like that, he's up to fourth.
34:10Yeah, and he's been working on it.
34:12I mean, they've been about four or five seconds ever since he got up into that fourth spot.
34:17So, he stayed there.
34:18Kept fighting, fighting.
34:20Finally got him.
34:22That's where it's going to end.
34:23Tom Bial's good 20 seconds in front of him.
34:26We can semi-sorta count this as another Ironman with the bad moto.
34:30Good moto for Kitchen.
34:32You know, he wants more than fourth, but it's certainly better than the 14th that he had in moto one.
34:38Yeah, you know, Mitch Payton, he'll end up standing up out of that chair.
34:41Levi comes back riding like that.
34:43But I know Levi, he's got that heart.
34:46He wants to get up here.
34:48And, you know, Mitch is always going to get him in shape.
34:52And he's been trying.
34:53He's been digging.
34:54Just not quite the results expected.
34:55Again, this is a guy who generally is battling for these titles.
35:00And it's just puzzle pieces.
35:01We've seen signs from Kitchen throughout the summer.
35:05White flag now out for Deegan.
35:07And Shimoda just took it as well.
35:09They are all alone in third.
35:11And here is Hayden Deegan.
35:12Yes.
35:13That would be very interesting if he sweeps to end the year.
35:16If he wins all three, he will jump ahead of Jet Lawrence's career total of 250 motocross wins.
35:24And, yeah, I got to think he knows that.
35:26Or once he sees that, he'll be thinking about it.
35:29Yeah, I'm sure he watches the races afterwards with all these guys.
35:32So if he didn't know it before, he will.
35:34And always some motivation to go.
35:38Yeah, that's the battle everyone is anticipating.
35:40Of course, you've got to give credit to everyone else in that 450 class chase.
35:45Sexton is winning races right now.
35:46Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac, and the rest.
35:49But that is a next generation battle everyone is really looking forward to.
35:54And we might have it.
35:56Yeah, it's going to be good.
35:57And Hayden, if I can give him one piece of advice, don't think you're going to go in that class and just run through them.
36:03You don't even know how dominant you are.
36:05And the reason I say that is because I experienced it firsthand.
36:08It's a different level.
36:09These guys are going to race you like you're a Super Bowl champion.
36:11They're going to give you your best.
36:12So the last thing they want you to do is come up here.
36:15So it's going to be a lot of hard work, fight.
36:18But if anybody can do it, it'd be number one.
36:20He has the heart to do it.
36:21And he's got a good team behind him.
36:23Yep, they announced it.
36:24That's right.
36:25Next year, he's 450 in pro motocross.
36:27But keeping the eye on the prize here.
36:30Six races, points paying in his 250 career.
36:34And he's also on Team USA for the motocross of nations.
36:38That'll be seven more 250 races, including this, to go.
36:41And he's making the most of it right now.
36:44And don't forget, these wins pay good money.
36:47So that never hurts on the motivation side.
36:50Yeah.
36:51Maybe get another set of keys after this.
36:54And he's got two nice cars already for the last couple of titles.
36:57See how many more he can get.
36:59And this is it.
37:01A few turns left for Hayden Deegan.
37:03Firing out of the break.
37:05It looked like Shimoda might have had him early in the day.
37:08Second half of Moto 1 and all of Moto 2 are all Hayden Deegan.
37:13Danger Boy takes Iron Man.
37:19Shimoda, like James Stewart said, kept digging all the way to the end.
37:23He's still kind of good.
37:24Good ride, Joe.
37:26Both these guys, very impressed by Joe and Hayden's race craft today.
37:31Really cool to see him.
37:32Tom Biao, good ride.
37:34Frenchman on the Red Bull KTM.
37:37It's actually Deegan's first ever win at Iron Man Raceway.
37:40This is fourth start.
37:42Made a debut here a couple of years ago.
37:45Feels like ages ago with all he's accomplished in the last few years.
37:49Good to see this out of Biao.
37:51Yeah, he's only 5'4".
37:52Yeah, you got a little hunker stuff.
37:54It is, it's funny.
