00:00So we're now coming up to the javelin throw for the men and an event which has certainly taken the country by storm out here.
00:09The first of them is Rohit Chaudhry, the boy who of course is going to be the favorite is Sumit Ranasinghe of Sri Lanka.
00:19He's got 85.78, the 2019 World Military Games bronze medalist.
00:26The next of them, I saw him in action two weeks ago in Pune, Shivam Lokare.
00:31He very won the title in the men's javelin.
00:37Shivam is the 2023 National Junior Champion.
00:41Vikrant Malik coming out of an injury, trains at Ulwe at the Reliant Academy.
00:47Sashank Patil is the next of them from Karnataka.
00:5180.23, the 2023 Indian Grand Prix winner.
00:55Vikas Sharma from Uttarakhand, the mountains of Uttarakhand.
01:05Yashvir Singh, he represents the railways.
01:08He should be one of the favorites.
01:102025, the Tashkent International Championship.
01:1482.57, which is the season's best.
01:16Rumesh Taranga Patirage.
01:18The second of the Sri Lankans Patirage.
01:21Rumesh Patirage.
01:222020, the World Championship finalist.
01:24He's a classic a few weeks ago.
01:27Now, the crowd can make all the noise here.
01:33Yeah, this is something that even high school kids know and understand.
01:38They know to get going behind the athletes when they're at the end of the runway.
01:43And that is full, by the way, that stand directly behind him.
01:45So, he's playing to the gallery, literally.
01:54That's the boy who, of course, would be amongst the top bracket.
02:00Rumesh Patirage.
02:00Oh, look at that.
02:09Now, look at that.
02:10The crowd knows that he's done something wonderful.
02:15He's got 85.41 in the year 2024.
02:21Oh, he's fourth at the 2025 Asian Championships.
02:25He represents Sri Lankans.
02:33Two Sri Lankans are going to push the Indians for sure.
02:38Yep, it's early stages, but this has the makings of quite a contest.
02:41The sector markers are set at 70 and 80 metres.
02:46Don't be surprised if both of those are exceeded.
02:49The second half of the year is the second half of the year.
03:19of the Sri Lankans, Sumedha Ranasinghe, 85.78. What a wonderful run up there and then look at that,
03:33oh he's above 80 now, it's hotting up as you rightly said Jeff. Yeah and it is an appreciative
03:40audience, you get it from all sides of the stadium, the height of the javelin soaring almost
03:46on the infield took a right battering from all of them, it was some outstanding throws,
03:52right from the first round it was just kicking off and the crowd absolutely loving it because
03:57you can see who's doing what, you can see where it lands, you can see the point of release and
04:01it was a very exciting competition. Sumedha Ranasinghe, number four, 80 meters plus and all of them
04:1180 meters plus, this is what the javelin throw is all about in today's era. There was a time when
04:1880 meters was absolutely on the cusp of winning global medals and we just had a renaissance,
04:26it started in this part of the world but suddenly every continent is producing great male and female
04:32javelin throwers and the distances are going further and further. I'm very glad they got a tall dignitary to
04:52present these prizes. It would have been a struggle for anybody less substantial than him. He's tall
04:58enough to be a javelin thrower himself, isn't he? The winner of the first place and the champion
05:08of javelin throw with a performance of 86.50 meters representing Sri Lanka, Rumesh Tarangi.
05:19So Sri Lanka launched a bit of a raiding party on the subcontinent here to take
05:24first and third in javelin which is so cherished by India but that's how it works. They looked over the
05:29fence and saw how well their neighbours were doing and thought well we we can do this too.
05:38I'll give this as an example where the International Cricket Conference and the Asian Cricket Conference
05:49has India as one of the leaders in the world of cricket sending delegations and coaches
