U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day delay in tariffs on China that could have reached up to 145%. He also confirmed a side deal allowing Nvidia to sell its H20 AI chips in China in exchange for paying 15% of China sales revenue to the U.S. government. Trump hinted the next-generation Blackwell chip could also be sold under certain conditions. Beijing is reportedly seeking looser U.S. export controls, especially on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) critical to AI systems, as part of broader trade talks.

00:00With just hours to go before U.S. tariffs on China were set to take effect,
00:06U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the possibility of further talks.
00:10We've been dealing very nicely with China, as you probably have heard.
00:14They have tremendous tariffs that they're paying to the United States of America.
00:20And we'll see what happens.
00:22They've been dealing quite nicely.
00:23The relationship is very good with President Xi and myself.
00:27Later that night, the White House issued an executive order and a joint statement with
00:32Beijing, both sides agreeing to delay reciprocal tariffs for an additional 90 days as they
00:38work toward a trade deal.
00:40The deal pulls back what would have been up to 145% tariffs on China.
00:46Trump also confirmed NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang agreed to pay 15% of NVIDIA's China chip revenues
00:53to the U.S. government for licenses to sell its H-20 AI chip in China, hinting that NVIDIA's
01:00next-generation Blackwell chips could also be sold there with conditions.
01:04I released them only from the H-20.
01:08Now, on the Blackwell, I think he's coming to see me again about that.
01:13But that will be an unenhanced version of the big one.
01:19Huang has long argued that U.S. chip makers should stay active in China, and denies Chinese
01:25concerns that NVIDIA chips allow for backdoor controls.
01:28As a technology provider, we need customers.
01:32All providers need customers.
01:34You can't be complacent about that.
01:36Beijing is reportedly pushing for looser U.S. export controls as part of trade talks, especially
01:55on high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, a key bottleneck for Chinese AI systems.
02:00With another 90 days on the clock, both sides will see what kind of chips, bargaining or
02:06otherwise, they're willing to trade to get what they want.
