00:15Initiative of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society,
00:21also known as Citris and the Banatow Institute. I'm honored and humbled to receive this distinguished
00:28award, the Icons of Change Award. This award recognizes the work of my entire research group
00:36in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 13 on climate action.
00:43Our research focuses on assessing and mitigating the effect of climate change on the built environment
00:51across multiple hazards, including wind, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and wildfires.
00:58Our work on sustainable and affordable earth and construction is an example of climate action
01:03that benefits everyone across multiple regions, with a particular focus on disadvantaged communities
01:11that are subject to hurricanes and wildfires. This research also supports the SDG 8 of decent work
01:20and economic growth by providing new job opportunities for different communities, also SDG 9 of building
01:28climate resilient infrastructure and SDG 11 of resilience and sustainable cities and communities.
