Daniela Astrid La Marca, Icons of Change Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Singapore)

SDG Focus: Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Changemaker in Strategic Health Communications, Media Integrity, and Institutional Trust (Singapore)

For over two decades, Daniela Astrid La Marca has exemplified what it means to build bridges between science, governance, and society. As a multilingual publisher, researcher, and strategic communications leader, her work operates at the critical nexus of public health, digital innovation, and institutional transparency—demonstrating how credible information ecosystems can strengthen trust and accountability across borders.

As Founder and Publisher of Global Health Press, Daniela has pioneered one of the region’s most respected platforms for evidence-based communication on vaccination, infectious diseases, and health literacy. Under her visionary leadership, Global Health Press has become a trusted global resource, connecting public health experts, policymakers, and communities with accurate, accessible insights, particularly vital in combating misinformation that undermines public well-being and institutional credibility. Her groundbreaking initiatives, including Health Literacy Asia, VacciTUTOR, and VacciNATION, have revolutionized the dissemination of complex scientific knowledge, ensuring that critical data empowers both citizens and decision-makers alike.
In parallel, as Editor-in-Chief of AI in Marketing under MediaBUZZ Pte Ltd, Asia’s first pure-play digital publisher, Daniela was ahead of her time, establishing editorial frameworks around artificial intelligence, digital ethics, and responsible innovation well before they became mainstream priorities. Her publications have profoundly shaped corporate, academic, and policy conversations on AI governance, ethical media practices, and digital transformation, reinforcing the essential principle that technological advancement must be underpinned by unwavering institutional integrity.

Daniela’s foundational career in major corporate and governmental settings, including roles at BMW AG and Deutsche Post DHL Group, sharpened her expertise in translating data, strategy, and media intelligence into high-level executive decision-making. As a Media Analyst supporting BMW’s Board of Directors, she curated strategic intelligence for reputation management, laying the groundwork for her lifelong dedication to fostering informed, transparent, and resilient governance.

Her current doctoral research at Central Queensland University, focused on vaccination systems governance, institutional frameworks, and performance-enhancing feedback mechanisms, reflects her rigorous intellectual commitment and public-oriented purpose. This scholarly work seamlessly complements her professional mission: to fortify the vital interface between knowledge, policy, and community trust.

00:01Hello everyone and warm greetings to the entire community of Icons of Change International.
00:06To this year's awardees, congratulations.
00:10My name is Daniela Lamarca and it's really an honor to be here with you today.
00:15Not just as an ambassador, but as someone who feels deeply connected to your journals.
00:23Because I don't just see leaders in you, I see people who cared enough to act.
00:28And that's where all real change begins.
00:32My path into this work wasn't planned, it wasn't linear and it definitely wasn't easy.
00:38I didn't wake up one day and decided to become a change maker.
00:43I simply kept responding to problems that bothered me,
00:47seeing gaps that felt unfair, systems that weren't serving people the way they should.
00:53Moments where I caught myself thinking, someone should fix this.
00:57And eventually I realized maybe that someone had to be me.
01:03Over the years, my journey has taken me across countries and industries.
01:09From Europe to Asia, from technology to publishing to global health.
01:15There were moments when projects collapsed, partnerships fell apart, funding disappeared.
01:20And honestly, times when I wondered if I should just stop trying.
01:26But what kept pulling me back was purpose.
01:30That quiet voice that whispered, if this helps even just one person keep going.
01:36In public health especially, I have seen how fragile systems can be.
01:40How one missing piece, one broken link can affect thousands of lives.
01:45But I've also seen something else.
01:48I have seen ordinary people step up in extraordinary ways.
01:53Nurses staying late and working hard.
01:57Volunteers organizing entire neighborhoods.
02:00Local leaders solving problems.
02:02No policy ever anticipated.
02:06No spotlight, no applause, just service.
02:09And that changed me because it taught me something important.
02:13Real impact often doesn't look glamorous.
02:16It looks more like persistence.
02:19And that's exactly what I see in all of you.
02:22You didn't wait for perfect conditions.
02:25You didn't wait for permission.
02:27You didn't say, this isn't my responsibility.
02:30You stepped forward anyway.
02:33And sometimes that takes more courage than people realize.
02:38Leadership today isn't about titles.
02:40It isn't about standing on stage.
02:43It's about what you do when nobody is watching.
02:47It's integrity when things get hard.
02:50Choosing people over ego.
02:52Service over status.
02:54And if we are honest, that kind of leadership can feel lonely sometimes.
02:58The work is heavy.
02:59The problems are complex.
03:01Progress can feel slow.
03:03I know that feeling.
03:05I've been there many times.
03:07But here's what I've learned.
03:10Even when you can't see the ripple, it's still spreading.
03:14Even when change feels invisible, it's still happening.
03:19Someone you help will remember you.
03:22And the system you improve will quietly work better for years.
03:26A young person watching you will think,
03:28If she can do it, maybe I can do it too.
03:32And suddenly your impact is bigger than you ever imagined.
03:37To me, that's what being an icon of change truly means.
03:41Not being perfect.
03:42Not having all the answers.
03:43But showing up again and again with heart, with humility and courage.
03:47So today, from one imperfect, still learning human being to another.
03:54Thank you for choosing to care.
03:56Thank you for choosing responsibility.
03:59Thank you for continuing even when it would be easier to step back.
04:04The world doesn't change because of trans speeches.
04:07It changes because of people like you.
04:11People who simply refuse to give up on others.
04:14I am proud to walk this path with you.
04:17Learning together.
04:19Serving together.
04:20Building something better together.
04:22So please, keep going.
04:24Keep believing.
04:26Keep leading with your values.
04:29Because the world needs exactly the kind of leadership you embody.
04:34And I truly cannot wait to see what you create next.
04:38Congratulations, Icons of Change 2026.
04:42And thank you from my heart for everything you do.
