00:15I don't murder mystery. I worked on American Idol. Gates of steel. Razor spikes on the wall. Did they think of everything and then forget to lock the door? And abduction at the mall. The young saleswoman dragged out of her store.
00:39What she did right that saved her life. She did everything that we could ask her to do. Then, fire starter confrontation. Yo, you started that fire. The hikers, face to face with a fire bug. How dare. Go get him. He started that fire. And rumors? What rumors? What the Obamas are saying today about all that nasty gossip. She's going to be back.
01:05Plus, JFK Jr.'s wife, Carolyn Bessette. 26 years ago today, they perished in a plane crash. How she's become a style icon for a new generation. How to dress like Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Then, Cinderella Libby Dunn. Her boyfriend's Prince Charming moment. And everybody in the pool. If you dare. Now, Inside Edition.
01:32Hello. Thanks for joining us. I'm Mary Calvey. There is shock today over the news that a top American Idol producer and her husband were shot to death in their sprawling Los Angeles home.
01:44After a previous break and just two months ago, the couple was taking extra precautions, planning on upgrading their alarm system, turning their home into a fortress.
01:52But did they unknowingly make one mistake that turned out to be fatal? Here's Jim Murray.
01:59We're learning chilling new details about the brutal murder of an American Idol executive and her husband in their $5 million home.
02:06I worked on American Idol, so of course I loved that.
02:09Robin Kay was American Idol's music supervisor for 14 years. Her husband, Tom DeLuca, was a songwriter.
02:15They were found shot to death in separate bedrooms in their palatial six-bedroom compound.
02:21The house is a fortress. There are razor-sharp wires on the wall and more on the ground on the other side.
02:26The driveway has a steel gate and there's a steel door at the entrance.
02:30There are surveillance cameras, but police say the intruder got in through a door that was left unlocked.
02:36Security consultant Guy Cohen spoke with the couple after a burglary last May.
02:41You had a very specific plan that you believe could have saved them.
02:45Absolutely. So our plan with Robin and Tom consisted of an early detection system with monitored cameras.
02:52It included infrared beam system. They would have known before coming home that something has already occurred.
03:00Last Thursday, police say a prowler was seen scaling the wall. Police were called but couldn't get access.
03:06An LAPD chopper flew over the house, but cops saw nothing suspicious.
03:10Then on Monday, cops were called again because the couple had not been seen for four days.
03:16Welfare trust, subject number one, female, wife, five, nine, seven years.
03:19They broke in and found the grisly scene. They had apparently been dead for four days.
03:24Within hours, a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Raymond Budarian, was arrested.
03:30Police say he was identified from surveillance video and fingerprints.
03:33Did the American Idol executive and her husband stumble upon a burglary, or was their killer lying in wait for them to come home?
03:40Police say the house was not ransacked, and they don't have a motive.
03:44This is American Idol.
03:47In a statement, American Idol's producers say Robin Kaye was a cornerstone of the Idol family.
03:53Robin will remain in our hearts forever.
03:55Tom Golubich was a friend.
03:57I miss her, and I'm shocked that she's gone, and I think of her and Tom as these wonderful peas in a pod.
04:04They're absolutely lovely human beings.
04:06Robin Kaye was the longest-running music supervisor on American Idol, credited with working on some 300 episodes of the show.
04:13This 18-year-old is screaming her head off, and for good reason.
04:18Man is trying to abduct her in a parking lot right outside the store where she works.
04:22But authorities say she's safe today because she did everything right.
04:27Allison Hall has details.
04:29It's a shocking attempted kidnapping as it happens.
04:33A young saleswoman is in a headlock, dragged from her store in St. Augustine, Florida, following a robbery.
04:45Her cry for help is blood-curdling.
04:50He's trying to shove her into a pickup truck as she desperately tries to break free.
04:59Then she escapes, with the suspect chasing right behind.
05:03Later, he fled the scene in the truck.
05:05Kelly Eason was in the parking lot and saw it unfold.
05:09I saw a young lady screaming, fighting.
05:13I waved and yelled at her to come to me, and of course got on the phone with 911.
05:17911.
05:18There's a lady being attacked.
05:19He's trying to put her in the car.
05:21Later, the victim got on the phone with 911.
05:24He pushed me into the door, and then pushed me out of the store, and then grabbed me and started shoving me into his truck.
05:29Authorities say the young woman did exactly what you should do if you find yourself the victim of an attempted kidnapping.
05:37She did everything that we could ask her to do.
05:40She got very, very loud.
05:41She was fighting.
05:42She was resisting.
05:43Did she save her own life?
05:45She did, absolutely.
05:46Police were able to track down the suspect within minutes.
05:50You see him being taken into custody on police body cam.
05:54Authorities say the pickup truck was stolen.
05:56This young woman's valiant fight should serve as an inspiration, says personal safety expert Matten Gavish.
06:03She fought her way from the first second all the way until the end when she found an exit, and that is probably the most important thing.
06:10The 31-year-old suspect was charged with kidnapping, robbery, and grand theft auto.
06:15The incident made such an impact on the nurse who helped out.
06:19She's sending her 10-year-old daughter to self-defense class.
06:22Nerves are still raw in Los Angeles over those devastating wildfires,
06:26which is why when a group of hikers on a popular trail saw a man they believed was intentionally starting a fire,
06:33they joined forces and made a citizen's arrest until cops arrived.
06:37A tree has been set on fire, and this guy walking away from the scene is suspected of igniting the blaze.
06:44Don't let him leave.
06:45Two hikers quickly confront him.
06:47He started that fire?
06:48You just came from over there.
06:49We just saw you.
06:50You're right.
06:51Oh.
06:51Yeah.
06:52Other bystanders join in.
06:54How dare you?
06:55As the fire in L.A.'s Runyon Canyon grows, a crowd gathers.
06:59The fire is spreading, and we need to get off this mountain.
07:03Then fire trucks arrive to tackle the flames.
07:07A chopper drops fire retardant.
07:09All this time, the Good Samaritans make sure the suspect doesn't flee.
07:13He's not going to let him leave.
07:15Finally, he's handcuffed by a park ranger to cheers.
07:20Police take it from there.
07:21I saw him trying to run off.
07:22I was like, Scotty, go get him.
07:24He started that fire.
07:25Devon DeMarco and her boyfriend, Scott Mitchell, are the hikers who stopped the suspect from getting away.
07:31Devon, a fashion designer, shot the video.
07:33We just didn't want to let him get away.
07:35Scott is a former University of Kentucky wide receiver.
07:38And he's got a completion for Scott Mitchell.
07:41Here he is in his playing days.
07:43You can see how he towers over the suspect.
07:45The adrenaline hits, and you go right into action.
07:47Yeah, that definitely is a football background thing, because sometimes you don't have time to think.
07:52The play doesn't always go your way.
07:53The incident comes just six months after those cataclysmic wildfires that wreaked so much destruction in Los Angeles.
08:01Were you having deja vu thinking, oh my gosh, this could be another horrific fire?
08:05Definitely that.
08:06It was crazy.
08:07It was insane.
08:08You started that fire?
08:09The accused fire starter has pleaded not guilty to felony arson.
08:14For the first time, Michelle and Barack Obama are giving a joint interview addressing those rumors that have been dodging them and dogging them about their troubled marriage.
08:25The Obamas are finally addressing those pesky divorce rumors.
08:30The rumor mill.
08:31It's my husband, y'all.
08:33She's going to be back.
08:35The former president joked about the rumors on Michelle's podcast, which she co-hosts with her brother, Craig.
08:42It was touching your car.
08:43The flurry of headlines started after the former first lady was a no-show for President Jimmy Carter's funeral.
08:51Then she sat out President Trump's inauguration, her husband arriving at the Capitol alone.
08:57Is it because there's trouble in paradise?
09:00Now the Obamas are setting the record straight.
09:03It's so nice to have you both in the same room together.
09:06I know, because when we aren't, folks think we're divorced.
09:10Obama says he was initially oblivious to the reports.
09:14So I don't even know this stuff's going on.
09:16Right.
09:17And then somebody will mention it to me and I'm all like, what are you talking about?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Michelle has acknowledged that they went through a rough patch when their two daughters were young.
09:26But even then, she says she never thought about divorce.
09:30There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man.
09:38And we've had some really hard times.
09:42So we have had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures.
09:46And I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to.
09:51Okay.
09:52Don't make me cry now.
09:53There you have it.
09:55In October, the Obamas will celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary.
10:01And 26 years ago today, John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn, and her sister Lauren perished in a plane crash.
10:09All these years later, JFK Jr. is remembered as the Prince of Camelot.
10:13But his wife Carolyn, too, is far from forgotten, becoming an icon in her own right.
10:18Amber Cogliano explains.
10:19They were the it couple of the 1990s, the Prince of Camelot and his bride.
10:25Everything is wonderful.
10:26Now, more than a quarter of a century after their plane crashed off the coast of Martha's Vineyard,
10:31Carolyn Bissette Kennedy has become an honest-to-goodness fashion icon for a new generation of American women.
10:38Across social media, there are glowing tributes devoted to Carolyn's classic style.
10:43How to dress like Carolyn Bissette Kennedy?
10:45The key here is to invest in quality basics.
10:48I spoke to Maureen Callahan, author of the bestseller, Ask Not, The Kennedys and the Women They Destroyed.
10:55She dressed in a very minimalistic way.
10:59She shunned logos.
11:01She had very few pieces, but she knew how to put them together in a unique way.
11:06The hair, the ultimate blonde hair, the red lip.
11:09Next year, the Kennedy Bissette mystique will be explored in the FX biopic American Love Story.
11:18The series is already sparking an uproar with this video of the actors set to portray the couple.
11:23What the hell is this?
11:24Fury focused on the wardrobe.
11:26It's like they completely missed the mark.
11:30Completely.
11:31Criticism was also aimed at actress Sarah Pidgeon, who portrays Carolyn.
11:35What shade of blonde is that?
11:37That is not the blonde that Carolyn Bissette was known for.
11:39Famed producer-director Ryan Murphy is calling the attacks unfair.
11:44Their outfits were thrown together for lighting and color tests.
11:48What is it about Carolyn that is still resonating with so many people?
11:52She had it.
11:53She had that indefinable, intangible star quality.
11:58The Ryan Murphy series about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bissette premieres on FX Valentine's Day week next year.
12:06Looks like gymnast-turned-sports-illustrated covergirl Livvy Dunn has a real prince charming for her boyfriend.
12:12The reaction to this moment at last night's All-Star Game is he's a keeper.
12:18Gymnast and social media personality Livvy Dunn's shoe comes undone while walking the red carpet at the All-Star Game in Atlanta last night.
12:27Fortunately, she has a prince charming to come to her rescue.
12:31Her boyfriend, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skeens.
12:34He gets down on bended knee fixing the strap.
12:38Now that's a true gent.
12:40And who's at the podium making a big announcement?
12:43My fellow Americans and content creators.
12:45After a month of reflection, I made a decision.
12:48It's Kai Trump, President Trump's granddaughter, announcing she's a new spokesperson for a popular energy drink.
12:55I'll be running, no stepping, into a new role, one of the most great responsibilities.
13:02She looks very presidential, just like her grandpa.
13:06Cheers.
13:06Now a very special pizza delivery by cops.
13:11When the Grubhub delivery guy was arrested, the officers made sure the pizza made it to its destination, still warm.
13:21That's not the pizza delivery guy at the front door.
13:24It's the cops.
13:25Hello.
13:26How are you doing?
13:27Good, how are you?
13:28Randy.
13:29Yes.
13:29Randy Wagoner opens her door.
13:31She isn't sure about that pizza box.
13:33Your Grubhub guy got arrested.
13:35Her look of disbelief says it all.
13:39Turns out that the pizza delivery guy was put in handcuffs after a traffic stop.
13:43But the cops still wanted to deliver the pepperoni pizza.
13:46I really appreciate pizza.
13:48It still should be.
13:50It was two minutes from where the vehicle stop was.
13:54We came to a consensus that this person probably should get their pizza.
13:57Randy tells Inside Edition that she's beyond thankful to the Tempe, Arizona Police Department for delivering her order.
14:03I wish I would have just gave them the pizza.
14:05Or the tip.
14:07I was too stunned to speak when I saw them.
14:10The Grubhub delivery guy was charged with reckless driving.
14:13The police department posted the video with a cheeky caption.
14:17When your Grubhub driver gets arrested, Tempe Police delivers.
14:20We'll be back with much more Inside Edition after this.
14:23Next, bring out the champagne.
14:26Yeah, boy!
14:27After he was just acquitted in the stabbing death of a preppy student.
14:31Now, the outraged family speaks out.
14:34And everybody in the pool.
14:37If you dare.
14:39Inside Edition will be right back.
14:42Despite being on an antidepressant, I was still masking my depression symptoms.
14:51My doctor said it could be because my antidepressant alone wasn't enough.
14:55So, she recommended an add-on treatment.
14:58She recommended adding Rexalti.
14:59When taken with an antidepressant, Rexalti was proven to significantly reduce depression symptoms more than an antidepressant alone.
15:06So, with my antidepressant, Rexalti could provide a boost.
15:09Elderly people with dementia-related psychosis have increased risk of death or stroke.

15:33Weight gain, increased cholesterol, unusual urges, dizziness on standing, falls, seizures, trouble swallowing, or sleepiness may occur.
15:40Could adding Rexalti be right for you?
15:43Ask your doctor about adding Rexalti.
15:46You know how everything changes?

17:36This teenager is celebrating a courtroom victory with champagne after being found not guilty
17:43of fatally stabbing a lacrosse player at a drunken house party packed with high schoolers.
17:48The video is outraging the victim's family who says he belongs behind bars.
17:53They spoke with Stephen Fabian.
17:55A brawl breaks out in the pouring rain among two rival groups of teenagers.
18:00Yes, sir!
18:01Then, the fight suddenly turns deadly.
18:04It happened at a packed house party in Swanky, Shelton, Connecticut.
18:08And it ended in the stabbing death of 17-year-old preppy lacrosse player Jimmy McGrath.
18:14Arrested in the killing, knife-wielding 16-year-old Raul Valli.
18:18At his trial, he took the stand and claimed self-defense.
18:22I was almost, like, hunched over.
18:25And then I reached in my pocket and grabbed the knife.
18:28I kept flailing my arm around, just trying to get him away from me.
18:34Raul Valli faced more than 100 years in prison, but today he is a free man.
18:40He's been acquitted of both murder and intentional manslaughter charges.
18:44Now, the family of the popular prep school lacrosse player is calling the trial a miscarriage of justice.
18:50Their outrage was fueled by this video posted on social media showing Valli celebrating his courtroom victory with champagne.
18:59Three months in.
19:00It's a nightmare.
19:02We will never get Jimmy back.
19:03Raul Valli needs to do jail time.
19:06He needs to be held accountable.
19:07We sat down with Jimmy McGrath's dad, Kevin, his mom, Margaret, and their 21-year-old daughter, Rose.
19:13What was your reaction when you heard the verdict?
19:16I don't care about Raul's life.
19:18I know that's raw, and that's hard to hear.
19:22Raul knows what he did.
19:23What do you say to people out there who are going to think,
19:25oh, Raul was just defending himself, he was being jumped?
19:29They brought a knife to harm people, and that's what they did.
19:32There's no remorse there.
19:34He's not sorry.
19:36Three other teens were also stabbed at the wild party but survived.
19:41The jury remained deadlocked on lesser charges of assault.
19:44The victim's family is pushing prosecutors to refile those charges.
19:49We'll be back with more Inside Edition after this.
19:52Still to come, everybody in the pool.
19:56If you dare.
