During a campaign event on Wednesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who is running for governor of South Carolina, spoke about Texas state Democrats who fled the state to break quorum.
00:02With the news coming out of Texas about redistricting, would you support kind of South Carolina looking to rejoin their congressional district lines?
00:09Well, there's already a lawsuit for the first congressional district.
00:13You know, Democrats for years, for decades, have been weaponizing the court system to draw lines to their favor.
00:20So I support Governor Abbott and the Texas legislature to do what's fair and what's right.
00:26And even for decades now, Democrats want to include illegal aliens in the census count.
00:31So when we're doing apportionment for congressional seats, that they're favored for Democrats.
00:36That's wrong. I think that's unethical. I think that's undemocratic.
00:40It's a threat to democracy. And we have to put a stop to it.
00:43That's what Americans want. That's what the Trump mandate was about.
00:47I would arrest the Texas legislature.
00:50Would you support a mid-decade redraw here in the state of South Carolina like your...
00:55I think our lines are good. We did a great job.
00:58The state, Congress doesn't do anything with drawing the lines.
01:01We don't have any legal authority. All right.
01:04It's done by the state legislature, the judiciary specifically.
01:07But the lines were drawn.
01:10There now is now the second lawsuit that will probably go to the Supreme Court over one congressional district
01:15because Democrats are mad that Republicans keep winning a purple seat in Charleston.
01:20But I made it more conservative.
01:22It's now an R-plus 18.
01:24And they can't do anything about that.
01:26So...
01:26I don't support Ralph Norman saying, or agreeing with Ralph Norman saying,
01:30that he thinks that Republicans should do a mid-decade redraw
01:33to basically draw Jim Clyburn out.
01:36Well, constitutionally, there has to be a seat for a Democrat,
01:43a black, you know, census for Jim Clyburn for a Democrat seat.
01:49So that's constitutionally civil rights that exists.
01:52It's always going to be a Democrat seat.
01:54I will as soon as I hit that microphone.
01:59I have a lot to say about what the attorney general did today and the BS.
02:04The attorney general is afraid to fight crime.
02:07He won't prosecute murder.
02:08He won't prosecute rape.
02:09He won't prosecute human trafficking.
02:12He won't prosecute pedophiles.
02:14So I'll have a lot to say about that when I hit the microphone.
