00:00TIPPING POINT
00:19Hello and welcome to Tipping Point, the quiz show where every day four players' fortunes lie on a knife edge.
00:24It's all about this amazing machine.
00:27As you can see, it's loaded with counters and they're all worth hard cash if our players can find that crucial tipping point when the machine pays out.
00:35Whoever makes the most money will play for our £10,000 jackpot, the others will leave with nothing.
00:41So let's meet the players hoping the machine will tip in their favour today.
00:45I'm Margaret, a retired pub landlady from West Sussex.
00:49I'm Gary, I'm an Events Manager and I'm from Wiltshire.
00:52I'm Hannah, a cabaret artist originally from Kansas.
00:55I'm Paul, I'm a Deputy Club Manager from North London.
00:58Welcome to all of you, good luck. Let's play Tipping Point.
01:04So, in round one you each start with three counters.
01:07Questions are on the buzzer, a correct answer will give you a choice.
01:11Do you play one of your own counters or if you don't think the machine is looking promising and it isn't at that crucial tipping point,
01:17you can make one of your opponents pay to play instead.
01:20It'll use up one of their precious turns.
01:23But, of course, if anything does come out of the machine, they keep the money.
01:27Every counter that comes out is worth £50.
01:30Whoever has the least amount of money at the end of this round will leave the game.
01:34One last thing, if you give me a wrong answer, all of those counters go into our penalty pot and we'll be up for grabs at the end of the round, which could change everything.
01:43OK, here comes your first question.
01:46Hamburgers and Frankfurters are named after cities in...
01:50Paul.
01:52Germany.
01:53It is Germany, Paul.
01:54Great start.
01:55It's up to you now.
01:56Have a look at the machine.
01:57Do you think she's ready to pay out or would you rather one of your opponents go first?
02:00No, I don't think it is going to pay out.
02:02I'd like to nominate someone first.
02:04OK, who are you going to go with?
02:05Can I nominate Margaret, please?
02:07Thank you very much.
02:08Margaret.
02:09You've got to put one of your counters into the machine.
02:11You can use either of the four drop zones, one, two, three or four.
02:15Which one do you think is the most likely to pay out?
02:18I think I'll go with three.
02:21OK.
02:22We're going to fire up drop zone three, please.
02:25It's all going to be about timing, Margaret.
02:27I know.
02:28When you're ready, release your counter.
02:32Go, baby, go.
02:33Come on, come on, come on.
02:38Lie down, that's it.
02:39It's nice and flat, Margaret.
02:40This way.
02:41Very central.
02:42This way, come to me.
02:44Push, push, push.
02:46Oh!
02:47That's quite.
02:48Oh!
02:49Nothing there.
02:50Very good move, Paul.
02:51Yes, yes.
02:52I'm pleased with that.
02:53Of course, Margaret to use one of her counters.
02:55Unfortunately, she hasn't got anything out.
02:57Right.
02:58Here comes your next question.
02:59Which author created the character Peter Pan?
03:04Margaret.
03:05J.M. Barrie.
03:06It was J.M. Barrie.
03:07Well done.
03:08So, do you fancy playing?
03:10I'm going to pass it back to Paul.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Yeah.
03:13Bit of his own medicine.
03:14Yeah.
03:15Okay, Paul.
03:16Where are you going to go?
03:17I'll pick number two, please.
03:20When you're ready, release away.
03:22Very quick drop.
03:23And a lovely flat set.
03:24Ooh.
03:25No, no, no, no, no.
03:26Something over the edge.
03:27Oh!
03:28No, no, no, no, no.
03:29Oh!
03:30Oh!
03:31No, no, no, no, no.
03:32Oh!
03:33Oh!
03:34Oh!
03:35Oh, no!
03:36Nothing there.
03:37Here comes your next question.
03:39Which sign of the zodiac comes first alphabetically?
03:42Aries.
03:43It is not Aries.
03:45Hannah, you were close, but it was Aquarius.
03:48I'm afraid you lose one of your counters.
03:51That goes into the penalty pot.
03:53You'll get a chance to play for it a little bit later on.
03:55Okay.
03:56Next question.
03:57The Great Fire of London occurred in which year?
04:00Margaret.
04:011666.
04:02It was.
04:03So, have a look at our machine.
04:04Do you fancy playing or you're going to make one of your opponents play?
04:08Instead.
04:09I think I'll let Hannah have a go.
04:11Oh!
04:12Here you go, Hannah.
04:13You've lost one of your counters with the wrong answer.
04:14Maybe you can make it count now, though.
04:16Uh...
04:17Maybe...
04:19Two.
04:20Let's go for two.
04:21Let's see if we can get the machine to pay out some money at last.
04:23When you're ready.
04:24Okay.
04:25Release away.
04:32Interesting tactic.
04:34Oh!
04:35Could be lucky.
04:36Anything over the top shelf would be a bonus.
04:39Come, come, come, come.
04:40Still nothing.
04:41Oh!
04:42Oh, dear.
04:43We've put three counters into the machine.
04:45We've had nothing over the tipping point.
04:47Okay.
04:48Next question.
04:49In the southern hemisphere, in which month does the summer solstice occur?
04:53Margaret.
04:54December.
04:55It is December.
04:56What are you thinking?
04:57I wonder if it's ready to drop.
04:58Is it ready?
04:59Would you fancy one of your others?
05:01No, let Gary have a go.
05:02Okay.
05:03Gary, no-one's had anything out of the machine just yet.
05:06Maybe now is the time.
05:07Now is the time.
05:08It's happening.
05:09She's ready to give me it.
05:10She's ready to give you whatever you want.
05:11I would like to go with number two, please.
05:13Okay.
05:14Come on, girl.
05:15When you're ready, release your count.
05:23Oh, dropped on the right side.
05:25This is two tanks.
05:26Oh, it could do.
05:27Oh, no, it's riding.
05:28It's gone over the lip.
05:29Oh, no.
05:30Is there going to be any damage?
05:32No.
05:33Oh, I've had a nightmare.
05:35She's playing hard to get today.
05:36It really is.
05:37Okay.
05:38Here comes your next question.
05:40T.
05:43T.
05:44It is T.
05:45What are you thinking?
05:46Oh, I'll have a go at two.
05:47When you're ready, Margaret, away you go.
05:53It's our fourth counter into drop zone two today.
05:56Yes.
05:57And we've got one over the edge.
05:58Come on, come on.
05:59We need something over the tipping point.
06:00Come on, come on.
06:01Over, over, over.
06:02Oh, my goodness me.
06:03Oh, come on.
06:04Nothing, Margaret.
06:06Oh.
06:07Okay.
06:08Here comes your next question.
06:10What does the A stand for in the name of the UK education body UCAS?
06:15Gary.
06:16Academic.
06:17It's not academic, Gary.
06:19It's worth a go.
06:20I'm afraid you lose one of your counters with admissions.
06:23I know.
06:24I used to work in university.
06:25You're joking.
06:26How stupid is that?
06:27Okay.
06:28We're running out of counters and no one's got any money.
06:30This is going to be tough, guys.
06:31We need to try and get something over the tipping point.
06:33Which US president delivered the Gettysburg Address?
06:36Hannah.
06:37Abraham Lincoln.
06:38It was Abraham Lincoln.
06:39Hurrah.
06:40So, here we go.
06:41Your last counter.
06:42We need this one to count.
06:43I guess it's got to be two.
06:50It's a very quick drop.
06:52We need it to lie flat.
06:53Come on.
06:54It's going to go.
06:55No!
06:56No!
06:57It just shifted the wrong way.
06:58Hannah, I'm afraid you'd use it.
07:00up all your counters and you've got no money to show for it.
07:05You are going to be able to play for the counters that are in the penalty pot at the end of this round, though.
07:10So, you've still got a chance.
07:11Okay.
07:12Here comes your next question.
07:14Sat Nav is a contraction.
07:17Margaret.
07:18Satellite navigation.
07:19That's correct.
07:20Well done.
07:21So, your last counter.
07:23Do you want to play your last one?
07:25I think I'm going to let Paul have a go.
07:27Okay.
07:28Where are you going to go?
07:29Actually, I'm going to go for zone three, please.
07:32Okay.
07:33Paul, when you're ready.
07:40Serious focus from Paul as that went down.
07:42Is that where you wanted it to go?
07:43Yes.
07:44No, actually, no.
07:45A bit more to the right, I'd prefer.
07:46Could have done more to the right.
07:47Let's see what happens, though.
07:48It is sitting nice and flat.
07:50Oh!
07:51Oh!
07:52Oh!
07:53Oh!
07:54Anything.
07:55Over the tipping point.
07:56Yes!
07:57Finally!
07:58Margaret's furious.
07:59Absolutely furious.
08:00Absolutely furious.
08:01It paid off, though, for you, Paul.
08:03You've got yourself two counters, £50 each.
08:05That's £100 in the bank.
08:06We're off the mark, everybody.
08:07Yay!
08:08The machine has finally paid some money out.
08:10Yeah.
08:11So, Paul is the only one with any money, the person with the least amount of money.
08:14At the end of this round, we'll be going home.
08:17So, question for Margaret, Gary and Paul.
08:19Hands on your buzzers.
08:20Which take that hit begins with the words, I guess now it's time for you?
08:25Gary.
08:26Back for good.
08:27Back for good.
08:28You know you take that numbers.
08:30My mum and sister would be so proud of me.
08:33So, Gary, it's your last count.
08:34Do you have a choice?
08:35Would you like Margaret or Paul to play, or would you like to have a go?
08:38I think I'm going to go with myself.
08:39Yeah.
08:40I think I will go with zone number three, please.
08:41Okay.
08:46Oh.
08:47Oh.
08:48I'm happy with that.
08:49You like that?
08:50Anything over the edge.
08:51Is it going to go?
08:52Come on.
08:53Just one.
08:54Gary.
08:55Gary.
08:56Yay!
08:59He wanted one.
09:00And you got one.
09:01I got one.
09:02And there's some more.
09:03So, you got the one out, and then, while you were still in control of the machine,
09:06you've got another seven, Gary.
09:08Wow.
09:09Yes.
09:10Which is eight in total.
09:11As you can see, that's £400 straight into your bank with your last counter.
09:14Well done.
09:15Amazing.
09:17Okay.
09:18So, Margaret and Paul, here comes your next question.
09:19Which Australian supermodel and actress...
09:22Ellen McPherson.
09:23...is nicknamed the body.
09:25It is Ellen McPherson.
09:26Well done, Paul.
09:27You know your supermodels.
09:28Yeah, it was a gamble, I'll tell you.
09:30It was a good gamble.
09:31It paid off.
09:32So, your last counter.
09:33You can play it, or, if you don't think there's going to be any action,
09:35you can make Margaret play her last counter.
09:38I think I've got to play it, really, Ben.
09:40Oh, take zone three, please.
09:42You ready?
09:43Rightio.
09:44Release your counter.
09:53It's quite good.
09:54All right.
09:55Will that be far enough over?
09:56Oh, yeah.
09:57It's going to do it.
09:58It's going to do it right there.
09:59It might do.
10:00Just a little nudge and they'll go over the edge.
10:02Yeah, there she goes.
10:03No way.
10:04Unbelievable.
10:05But I'm afraid nothing, Paul.
10:06OK.
10:07Margaret, you have one last counter to play, so this question is yours.
10:10You still need to give me a correct answer before we put all the counters in the penalty pot up for grabs, so everything can change.
10:21What nationality is the tennis player Roger Federer?
10:26Swiss.
10:27That's correct.
10:28Well done.
10:29So, your last one, Margaret.
10:30OK, it's got to be three.
10:32Release your counter when you're ready.
10:34Here we go.
10:35Whatever comes out.
10:36It's not going to.
10:37It should be over that way more.
10:38It needs to be a bit further over, but sometimes...
10:39No!
10:40Oh, come on!
10:41You all right there, Margaret?
10:42Oh, come on!
10:43Nothing, Margaret.
10:44So, Margaret, I'm afraid you didn't get anything with your final counter, which means that you and Hannah are yet to get any money.
11:01Gary and Paul, you're going to be definitely through to the next round.
11:04However, because of the two incorrect answers in that round, there are two counters up for grabs in the penalty pot.
11:10This could change everything.
11:12I'm going to ask you one single question on the buzzer.
11:15Whoever gets it right, you get a chance to put both those counters into the machine.
11:19If you give you the wrong answer, then you will no longer be in the running.
11:22OK?
11:23Margaret and Hannah, you have to give me the correct answer now.
11:26I want a chance of getting through to the next round.
11:28Gary and Paul, this will be about you putting more money into your bank if you get the right answer.
11:33Here we go.
11:35What is the fourth letter of the Greek counter bet?
11:39Delta.
11:40That's correct.
11:41Well done.
11:42So, you've got those two counters.
11:45You can put them anywhere you like in the machine.
11:47OK.
11:48It's got to be number three.
11:49She's looking very generous on three, isn't she?
11:51She's looking good.
11:55Go, go, go.
11:57Go, go, go, go, go.
11:59Oh, that's a good fall.
12:00You like that fall?
12:01Yeah.
12:02I'm not sure yet.
12:03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:04Could be good.
12:05Could be good.
12:06Could be good.
12:07Are we going to get anything over the tipping points?
12:09Yes.
12:10Yes.
12:11Yes.
12:12Oh, no.
12:13Yes.
12:14Yes.
12:15Yes.
12:16So, from your first counter, that's six over the tipping point,
12:21which is £300 into your bank.
12:23Wow.
12:24And you have one left to play.
12:25Oh, aye.
12:26Great.
12:27So, question is, where would you like to play your last counter?
12:29Oh, dear.
12:30Nothing's looking particularly promising.
12:32I think I'll try three again.
12:33There's just three on the edge there.
12:36If you get the fall right, this could be very generous indeed.
12:39Margaret, are you ready?
12:40Fire away.
12:42And...
12:43Go!
12:44Come on.
12:45That way.
12:46That way.
12:47That way.
12:48Yeah, yeah.
12:49Over that way.
12:50Is that enough?
12:51No.
12:52Don't think so.
12:53Just on its rim.
12:54That way.
12:55Well, it's flat.
12:56We need it over.
12:57Yeah.
12:58I don't think it's over far enough.
12:59Oh!
13:00It was plenty far enough.
13:01That's four more.
13:02Anything over the tipping point?
13:03Yeah!
13:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:05Another two over the tipping point.
13:06That's another £100 into the bank.
13:07Hey!
13:08So, at the end of that round, Margaret, with her penalty counters, has got
13:10to sell £400.
13:11Gary has £400.
13:13Paul has £100.
13:14Hannah, I'm afraid, has nothing at all.
13:16Oh!
13:17We've reached your tipping point.
13:18Thank you for playing.
13:19Thank you, Ben.
13:20In round two, they will each face 30 seconds of questions.
13:23Each correct answer gives them a chance to earn some cash.
13:26Once again, the player with the least amount of money at the
13:28end of the round will be leaving the game.
13:30Now, Margaret, you're tied with Gary.
13:32But, as you gave us the first correct answer between the two of you in the last round,
13:36that means that you've come into this round in the lead.
13:39So, Margaret, you've got the choice.
13:40Would you like to play first or put one of the gents in the chair?
13:43Mmm.
13:44I think I'll let Paul go first.
13:46OK, we're going to go with Paul.
13:47Yeah.
13:48OK.
13:49You've got 30 seconds to answer as many questions as you can.
13:51Each one you give me that is correct will give you a counter to put into the machine.
13:55OK.
13:56Good luck.
13:57The time starts now.
13:59The retina is the light-sensitive portion of which organ in the body?
14:02Eye.
14:03Correct.
14:04In which country is the film The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert set?
14:06Australia.
14:07Correct.
14:08Which Arsenal player was named the 2012 Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year?
14:11Robin Van Persie.
14:12Correct.
14:13Which artist is famed for saying,
14:14In the future, everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes?
14:17Andy Warhol.
14:18Correct.
14:19RT is the public service broadcaster of which European country?
14:21The Republic of Ireland.
14:22Correct.
14:23The donkey is the traditional symbol for which US political party?
14:25Democrats.
14:26That's correct.
14:27From which country did the cheese rock...?
14:28We're out of time.
14:29Having said that, you've got six counters.
14:30You've got £100 at the moment.
14:31You need as much over that tipping point as possible.
14:32Where should we start?
14:33I'm...
14:34I'm going to have to go for zone three again, I think.
14:35OK.
14:36Let's fire her up.
14:37Drop zone three.
14:38OK.
14:39When you're ready, release your counter.
14:40So nice.
14:41Clean drop.
14:42It's gonna go.
14:43And you flipped already.
14:44Oh, no!
14:45I don't believe it.
14:46Oh, no!
14:47No, no, no, no!
14:48Oh!
14:49That is...
14:50That's perhaps the cruelest drop I've ever seen.
14:51That's nasty.
14:52Just needed to flip.
14:53OK.
14:54Your second counter.
14:55Where are you gonna go?
14:56Oh, pick zone three again.
14:58When you're ready, away you go.
14:59Sitting on its rim.
15:00What?
15:01We need this flat.
15:02Yeah.
15:03Oh, yes.
15:04That was close with it.
15:05That was close with it.
15:06That was close with it.
15:07Oh, no, no, no!
15:08No, no, no, no!
15:09No, no, no, no!
15:10No, no, no, no!
15:11Oh!
15:12Oh!
15:13That is...
15:14That is...
15:15That's perhaps the cruelest drop I've ever seen.
15:16That's nasty.
15:17Just needed to flip.
15:18OK.
15:19Your second counter.
15:20Where are you gonna go?
15:21Oh, pick zone three again.
15:22When you're ready, away you go.
15:24Sitting on its rim.
15:25What?
15:26We need this flat.
15:27Yeah.
15:28That was close with it.
15:29It's a teaser.
15:30It was, right?
15:32It's gonna go.
15:33There you go, that's OK.
15:34That's all right, yeah.
15:35That's OK.
15:37Well done.
15:38Hey!
15:39So, with your second counter, you've got five over the tipping point.
15:42250 pounds.
15:43Lovely.
15:44Right, then.
15:45You've still got four counters left.
15:47I think it's gonna be my old friend zone three again.
15:49OK.
15:50Really?
15:52When you're ready, Paul, release your fourth counter.
15:58That's good.
15:59That's good.
16:00Your third counter's released.
16:01Sitting nicely.
16:02Need something over the edge.
16:03There she goes.
16:04Yeah.
16:05Yeah.
16:06Anything over the tipping points?
16:08Yes.
16:09Another 150 pounds.
16:11You've now taken the lead with 400 pounds going into your bank.
16:16You've still got three counters left.
16:18Where are you going now?
16:19I'm gonna be very predictable and go for zone three, please, Ben.
16:23When you're ready, release your counter.
16:30Bit of a ghost drop.
16:31Yeah, it was a weird one.
16:32Oh, it nearly sat.
16:35OK, we're OK.
16:36We're flat.
16:37We need something over that edge.
16:40One, two.
16:41One, two.
16:42One, two.
16:43Ooh.
16:44Shove it.
16:45Shove it down.
16:46Ooh.
16:47Shove it.
16:48Shove it down.
16:49So that's the real lungs that are coming out of me, then.
16:51It is.
16:52So nothing from that counter.
16:53You've still got two left, though, Paul.
16:54OK, Ben.
16:55You gonna persist with drop zone three?
16:57I think I will.
16:58OK.
16:59When you're ready, fire away.
17:01It could be good if it sits nicely.
17:02Yeah, it's gonna work.
17:03And it has.
17:04It's a good one.
17:05Just on the edge of that shelf, will they go over?
17:06Yeah.
17:07Oh, no.
17:08Good job.
17:09Come on.
17:10Oh.
17:11That's another five over the tipping point.
17:12Another 250 pounds.
17:13Margaret, this could have all been yours.
17:14I know.
17:15Big mistake.
17:16You've still got plenty.
17:17I know.
17:18I know.
17:19I know.
17:20Big mistake.
17:21I know.
17:22I know.
17:23I know.
17:24I know.
17:25I know.
17:26I know.
17:27I know.
17:28I know.
17:29Big mistake.
17:30You've still got plenty to go, though, Paul.
17:32You've got one last counter to put into the machine.
17:35Well, do you know, I'm gonna change tack.
17:37OK.
17:38Please, Ben, and go for zone four.
17:40It's like change tactic.
17:42When you ready, Paul?
17:44I know.
17:47No.
17:49First time drop zone four has been used.
17:51No.
17:52I don't think so.
17:53Steady drop.
17:54It's gonna edge it towards three, innit?
17:56Yeah.
17:57Oh!
17:58Oh!
17:59I don't believe it.
18:00Nothing.
18:01So at the end of that go, you've got £650, which means your bank has gone up to £750.
18:07You have set the benchmark now.
18:09Gary, Margaret, that's what you need to surpass to guarantee your way through to the next round.
18:14So, Margaret, back to you.
18:15Yes.
18:16It was your decision to put Paul into play.
18:17It was.
18:18What a stupid thing to do.
18:19You can put Gary in now, or...?
18:21No, I think I'll go next.
18:22OK.
18:23So, Margaret's up next.
18:24You've got 30 seconds to give me as many correct answers as you can.
18:28Each one that's right will give you a counter into the machine.
18:30OK.
18:31Your time starts now.

19:09Not enough.
19:10So, you've got three counters to try and get as much money as you possibly can.
19:15Where are you going to start?
19:16Erm, I think it's got to be for number four.
19:18I think Paul's paved the way there.
19:19He's £350 a head.
19:20When you're ready, release your counter.
19:22Let's go.
19:23Come on now.
19:24Come on.
19:25Nice and flat.
19:26Come on.
19:27Fly flat.
19:28And...
19:29Oh, it's just riding up.
19:30And...
19:31Oh, it's just riding up.
19:33Is it?
19:34Widen up slightly.
19:35It's just riding on the back.
19:36Push.
19:37Don't know if that's going to make any...
19:39Push, push, push.
19:40Yeah.
19:41Push the wrong ones.
19:42Hmm.
19:43They're stacking up nicely though, Margaret.
19:44Yeah.
19:45They're stacking up nicely.
19:46You're going to stay with drop zone four?
19:47I am, yeah.
19:48OK, you've got two counters left.
19:49OK.
19:50Are you ready?
19:51Fire away.
19:52Fire away.
19:53There she goes.
19:54Come on now.
19:55You can do it.
19:56Very quick drop.
19:57High down.
19:58It could go either way.
19:59Can you?
20:00Not flat.
20:01Oh, no.
20:02The rider.
20:03Oh.
20:04You need £400 to guarantee your place.
20:06I'm not sure this will be the one.
20:07No.
20:08I don't think it will.
20:09No.
20:10Woo!
20:11OK, it's all on this one.
20:12Are you going to stick with drop zone four?
20:13Yeah.
20:14OK.
20:15Are you ready, Margaret?
20:16Come on now.
20:18Nice and flat now.
20:20It's on its rim.
20:21Looking good.
20:22It's on its rim.
20:23Just have one flat one.
20:24Nice and flat.
20:25That's better.
20:26In just the right position.
20:28Push, push, push, push, push.
20:30Push!
20:31Yes!
20:33And...
20:34Here we go.
20:35Push, push, push.
20:36Aha!
20:37Two!
20:38So, two counters is another £100 into your bank, which means you have £500 now.
20:44Yeah.
20:45In the bank.
20:46So, we come to you, Gary.
20:47As it stands, Paul's got £750.
20:49You need three counters to get your way through to the next round.

20:54It's open.
20:55Gary, your 30 seconds start now.

21:22You went out of time.
21:23You managed to get three rights.
21:24So, three counters.
21:25You need to get at least £150 to get through to the next round.
21:26You're looking at the machine?
21:27Er...
21:28I think number four is smiling at me a little bit.
21:29I think she's putting me over to number four.
21:30She's giving you some good vibrations.
21:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:32When you're ready, away you go.
21:33That's good.
21:34That's rim.
21:35Yeah.
21:36You right with that?
21:37I'm happy with that, as long as it flattens down.
21:38Yeah, good.
21:39That's good.
21:40That's good.
21:41Good.
21:42So, that's three counters.
21:43And...
21:44Right.
21:45So, three counters.
21:46You need to get at least £150 to get through to the next round.
21:48You're looking at the machine?
21:49Er...
21:50I think number four is smiling at me a little bit.
21:52I think she's putting me over to number four.
21:53She's giving you some good vibrations.
21:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:55When you're ready, away you go.
21:58happy with that okay as long as it flattens down yeah yeah good come on girl
22:03drop one off I'll buy you a drink afterwards that's what I want she's in
22:08for primary come on level with Margaret you've got two counters left one more
22:18over the tipping points and you're through right I think I will go with
22:23number four again okay come on girl do this for me
22:31there you go she's treating me well I'm going come on come on come on nine more
22:43counters 450 pounds to add to that 100 pounds in this turn 550 so far you've got
22:49one more counter to play Wow see if you can get you some more money and extend
22:53that league Gary where you gonna go I think I'm gonna go with number one okay
22:58when you ready away you go to the right that's it yeah first time we played drop
23:07zone one will she be lucky yeah yeah come on come on one there it's a couple more
23:11come on so another three over the tipping point that's another 150 pounds 700 pounds
23:19which means Gary your bank has now gone up to 1,100 pounds so Gary finishes the round in
23:26the lead with 1,100 pounds Paul is in second with 750 pounds I'm afraid Margaret with 500
23:31pounds we've found your tipping point thank you for planes so as it stands Gary is in
23:36the lead with 1,100 pounds Paul you've got 750 pounds but as we saw in that last round
23:41everything can change with the drop of the counter in the right place I'm gonna
23:46ask you six questions which will alternate between each of you three
23:49questions each on your question you can either choose to play it or you can pass
23:53it to your opponent you get a question right then you get to play the machine
23:57but if you give me a wrong answer your opponent gets the turn whoever has the
24:02most money at the end of this round is today's winner I will be going forward
24:05to play for our 10,000 pound jackpot Gary you're in the lead so it's up to you
24:10would you like to play first and face the first question would you like to pass it
24:14to Paul I think I'll go first fancy taking it on first yeah okay here we go so
24:18Gary's first question which actor and comedian was the host of the 2012 Brit Awards
24:25you don't have to answer this if you don't know you can pass it to Paul I'm
24:30going to say James Corden confident about that one yeah okay is that the
24:37right answer it was so where would you like to go um I think number one's
24:44looking promising so I'll go with number one please Ben okay we're gonna fire up
24:47drop zone one please Gary when you're ready release your counter
24:54very quick drop and it's settled nicely anything over that shelf yes yes come
25:04on give me a push go on yes that'll do over the tipping point into the win zone 50
25:10pounds to you into your bank which now sits at 1,150 pounds Gary so Paul your
25:15first question remember if you don't know the answer you can pass it to Gary okay here
25:19we go who is the co-founder and CEO of the social networking site Facebook mark
25:29Zuckerberg straight in is it mark Zuckerberg of course it is so what can do the most
25:39damage Paul it's fairly evens on that upper shelf there I think I'll go for zone one please Ben okay
25:46when you're ready release your counter
25:49there you go we like them when they settle nicely and quick but can you get enough purchase yep that's
26:00three over onto the bottom shelf and into the tipping points so that's two over the tipping point a hundred
26:06pounds well done it's a great start so Gary you still hold the lead next question is yours what
26:13is the largest species of penguin you don't have to answer if you don't want to have a look at Paul
26:19does he know his penguins I'm going to say that I'm going to pass this over you're gonna pass it over yeah
26:27yeah is it Emperor we're gonna go with Emperor it's the only one I've got to be honest if it is the
26:34Emperor penguin then you've won the counter let's find out was the answer Emperor
26:39Paul he's open a little door for you now yes you've won his counter you can take advantage and
26:50try claw back a little bit of his lead yeah where do you want to go it's gonna be my old friend zone
26:55one I think okay release your counter when you're ready there you go now it's settled nicely can it
27:07edge that one over the overhang stay there stay there you'll be alright behave nothing I'm afraid
27:13Paul fortunately that wasn't a wasted one though because you want it off Gary if you can take
27:18advantage by getting your question right maybe we can get something into the wind zone your second
27:23question the name of which Italian bread traditionally made with olive oil translates into English as
27:31slipper do you know I'm gonna pass it again thanks very much yeah do you know your Italian bread guy
27:38absolutely not no I mmm there's two that I'm toying with which are either focaccia or panini but I think trying to think of which one looks more like a slipper
27:50the one that's standing out is focaccia so I'm gonna guess focaccia is the answer focaccia
27:57it wasn't you're gonna kick yourself it's panini no it's ciapatta ciapatta you knew that didn't you the
28:08slipper bread great pass Paul worked perfectly just as you intended yes you get to put another counter
28:15into the machine zone one we're gonna try and make it work this time let's make it count when you're ready
28:22oh not again come on it's gone that's not even gonna get me it's gone over that's what we wanted
28:32anything over the tipping point that's too far in it another one into the wind zone over the tipping point
28:38another 50 pounds you're currently sitting there just 250 pounds behind Gary you both have one question
28:46left Gary your third and final question in this round Elizabeth Bennet is the heroine of which Jane
28:56Austen novel Elizabeth Bennet okay you don't have to answer I'm not good with my literature however Jane
29:07Austen's quite a renowned author so I think Paul might know this so I think I'm gonna try and answer it so
29:14Paul's not giving anything away I'm gonna gamble on the only one I really know which is Pride and
29:21Prejudice if this is right you've won a chance to put the last counter into the machine and extend
29:26your lead if it's wrong Paul gets your counter it's kind of a chance to try and claw back some of that
29:31money is the answer Pride and Prejudice it is getting well played indeed Gary it's worth the risk you've
29:43got yourself one last counter to put into the machine to try and make that lead of yours unassailable to
29:49Paul where you gonna go I think I'm gonna go with number one okay yeah yeah where you go
29:55that's that's a mixed bag do you like it I'm not sure I do like it I love it Ben I love it come on you
30:08that was gonna happen come on there you go three more over the tipping point another 150 pounds to you
30:16Gary it's tense so your bank sits at 1300 pounds Paul you have 900 pounds you need 400 pounds with
30:27your last counter to force a tie break on which continent is the Gobi Desert that's in Asia you're
30:39pretty confident about this I'm very confident let's find out is the answer Asia
30:43yes of course so look this is it now the last counter of the round well I think it's gonna be a fan
30:55zone one again I think Ben place when you're ready Paul where you go that's good it's interesting
31:07Gary's a bit nervous it's settled nice and flat I can come on keep it stuck on stop it nine
31:17counting to win that was random that's not gonna three counters over the tipping point another 150
31:26pounds which we add to your bank pool so we finish that round I'm afraid Paul you came close with
31:321050 pounds but I'm afraid we have to say goodbye to you thanks for playing thank you Ben it's been a
31:37great day I'm afraid your tipping point has come Gary has battled through to be today's surviving
31:42player very well done thank you got 1300 pounds in the bank and you're gonna get to play for today's
31:4910,000 pound jackpot crazy yeah love it feeling confident as confident as I can be I guess yeah
31:55so yeah it's what I mean I'm surprised I'm even here so this is brilliant okay in a few moments I'm
32:00gonna be asking you to put our gold jackpot counter into the machine quite simply all you have to do to
32:04win 10,000 pounds let's get it out again it really is as simple as that here's how you're gonna do it
32:09I'm gonna ask you six questions each on a given subject for each topic you can choose to play one
32:15two or three counters to put into the machine the more goes you play for the harder the question
32:20will be but the more counters you win the better chance you have getting that jack popped out of
32:26the machine if you don't succeed you still get 50 pounds for every counter that drops for you and
32:31all that money will go into your bank but we really want you to get that 10,000 pounds okay thank you
32:36yeah right first thing we need to do is release the jackpot counter now where do you think you're
32:41gonna be most likely to drop it in order to get it out again I think I will go with zone number three
32:47please okay let's fire up zone three please when you're ready Gary release your jackpot counter
32:56treat me well it's not bad that I'm happy in the middle you always want it in the middle if we
33:04can oh that's that's on the lip it's riding a touch what's it gonna do oh no it doesn't necessarily
33:13match it's not the end of the world it's not the end of the world it's in the middle more importantly
33:17yeah of drop zone three we can start going to work on that now yeah okay so let's take a look at
33:22today's six end game subjects they are prime ministers fashion geography harry potter 20th
33:31century events and sitcoms wow it's not a bad spread which of those do you like the look of
33:36I'm thinking sitcoms and 20th century events I'll be all right on fashion as you can tell no
33:43okay so look we've got some strong subjects one or two that you maybe want to avoid where do you
33:48want to start you want to give yourself a good shot at it or perhaps go for something I think
33:54what I'll do is I will start with the ones I don't think I'm more confident on right so where do you
33:59want to start I'm going to start with Harry Potter Harry Potter for how many I'll go for two let's
34:05have a look at your Harry Potter question what species of owl was Harry's pet Hedwig barn owl snowy owl
34:14tawny owl okay um I can actually picture an owl um I can you picture Hedwig though no um no I don't have
34:26no idea who Hedwig is I'm leaning more towards tawny but that's purely a guess so you know with tawny yeah
34:32go for it you know with tawny for two counters there'll be a real bonus if we get this right
34:37is the answer tawny oh brilliant right we didn't expect to do particularly well on that one you've
34:45still got five categories left where do we gonna go next okay um I'm going to go for fashion and I'm
34:51gonna go for one okay let's have a look at it good in 1988 Anna Wintour became editor-in-chief of
34:59which American fashion magazine Cosmopolitan L or Vogue okay I think I know this yeah I think she
35:07was made famous in the Devil Wears Prada film okay I'm pretty sure it's Vogue this is right we'll get
35:12our first counter and hopefully we can get that jackpot shifting is Vogue the correct answer yes get it
35:20absolutely right she was subject to that film brilliant brilliant so here we go I imagine
35:24we're gonna go straight for drop zone three absolutely right far away come on oh that's
35:35gone a little bit further right than I wanted it to get it flat if it moves it around then I'll be a
35:41happy man come on it's some lateral movement not just yet okay okay where do you want to go next
35:51I'm going to go for prime ministers and I'd like to go for two counters please okay let's have a look
36:00at the question which of Tony Blair's children was born while he was prime minister Ewan Catherine or Leo
36:09okay I'm pretty confident with this one right baby Leo baby Leo that's how you remember him oh
36:14yeah is Leo the right answer yes yes two counters into the machine where are you gonna go drop zone
36:23three fire it up please okay release your counter when you're ready straight away oh I just think I
36:34thought it was gonna go perfectly that's flat though it is flat you can get something over the edge it's
36:40tight and it's just cruel it's a cruel machine this one it is very cruel as it stands you've got another
36:48counter to drop in okay I think I'll go in zone three again okay you need this to do some damage to the
36:54jackpot here we go come on oh no what's he doing it settled quickly didn't it could have been worse
37:06that I'm gonna get some money now that's good that's what I'm happy with come on sorry the first counters
37:14over the tipping point there's nine in the wind zone 50 pounds for each of them which means your
37:18money's now gone up to 1750 pounds in the bank so we've got three categories left we desperately need
37:25to start shifting that jackpot so it can still be done yeah I think I'm going to go for 20th century
37:32events yeah and I'm gonna gamble on a three right we're gonna have to go for it now we need a three
37:37counter question what caused the 1908 Olympics to be held in London instead of Rome Spanish flu the
37:48Vesuvius erupted or world war one hmm well I'm pretty confident world war one hadn't started by at that
37:58point so I'm gonna rule that one out okay I think I think Vesuvius isn't close enough to Rome so I'm going
38:06to say Spanish flu but I'm not a hundred percent is that the correct answer oh it was Vesuvius
38:15oh god no goodness me so we've got sitcoms and we've got geography well my geography's just served
38:23me really well I think I'll do geography and I'm gonna play it safe I'm gonna go with the two okay
38:29geography for two please the island of Sicily is part of which country Greece Italy or Spain I'm pretty
38:38confident this Italy okay we desperately needed to be Italy it's two counters if it is is Italy the
38:44correct answer yes what it is well done well done so are you gonna go the thing is where the jackpot
38:52counter is there's it's quite sparse over to the left they're looking a bit more generous generous so I
39:00think I'm going to go with them and try and get try and get some cash out of there okay so which one
39:06would you like to go with drop zone one or drop zone two I'm going to go with drop zone two when
39:14you're ready okay fire away come on
39:20oh it's gone couldn't have gone further away than where I wanted well let's see if we can do some
39:24damage now get something over the ledge come on just drop it over here we go is it gonna go is it
39:33gonna go oh no one more one more I think I'm gonna stick with zone two okay when you ready come on drop
39:43away roll roll roll settling really nicely for you now unfortunately just in the wrong place
39:54killer big change of tactics we're ignoring the jackpot counting it hasn't paid off at all you've
40:00got one category left we need to go for it I think you're right yeah let's have sitcoms and for three
40:08for three let's see comes for three please which of these sitcoms was not written by John Sullivan
40:16just good friends only fools and horses or porridge this is a hard one okay I'm going to say porridge
40:27you're gonna go with porridge yeah I'm gonna go porridge is porridge the right answer
40:31it is oh the relief okay so we've got three counters to put into the machine where are you
40:42gonna go as much as I'd love it I think jackpot jackpot count is gone for me it's not going anywhere
40:46um so I think I'm going to hammer down onto drop zone two right Gary when you're ready all right far away
40:55okay all about increasing your total it's good so one lips over come on into the window yes oh yes
41:10brilliant two counters in 50 pounds each another hundred pounds into the bank but two counters left
41:17to go so where are you gonna go I'm gonna go with the drop zone two again release your counter when you're
41:23ready in the middle just a bit too far over let's get it to settle so nice to go come on all the way
41:38this is tense now it's just edging and sideways just teasing me Ben I don't like it you've got one
41:45counter left this is the last chance you're gonna get to get anything over the tipping point okay um it
41:51is I've got to go again drop zone two okay you ready good luck okay here we go
41:59it's just not having it oh that's okay there's an overhang that's good three over the edge four now
42:09be good be good okay another two counters into the wind zone over the tipping point that's another
42:17hundred pounds as things stand you've got 1950 pounds you can walk away with that money right
42:23now if you want to or if you're feeling very very brave I can give you three final goes in the hope
42:29of winning that jackpot if you trade that 1950 pounds everything else in the machine will be
42:35worthless you're building with 10 grand or nothing at all I'm always one of these people that watches
42:40TV shows when people are meant to take the trade I always say oh just get on with it but I think three
42:45counters isn't going to do this for me so I'm definitely going to stick with the money now
42:49well done 1950 pounds what are you going to do with that well two of my very good friends John
