into the new Premier League season with a squad shaped by smart, decisive transfer business — and under Arne Slot, the expectation is that the newcomers will make an immediate impact. For further perspective on Everton’s summer dealings, we spoke to Will Rooney of LiverpoolWorld.
00:00Everton approached the Premier League season with a squad subtly reshaped by a summer of pragmatic, well-judged transfer business.
00:13And under David Moyes, there's optimism that the new arrivals can make an instant impact.
00:19Moyes' first transfer window back at the dugout has been refined rather than a revolution.
00:26Each signing has been made with a clear purpose, adding depth, but there is still a number of areas that need refining.
00:33With the new campaign around the corner, the hope is that new additions can give Everton the platform to compete strongly and continue their upward trajectory.
00:44For further perspective on Everton's summer dealings, we spoke to Will Rooney of Liverpool World.
00:50He believes there's understandable concern on Merseyside due to the lack of real business this summer and where they want to go in the future.
01:00Well, let's look at Everton and just on the stadium move again.
01:05Obviously, it's had a bit of a naming right situation as well with the Hill-Dickinson Stadium.
01:11So it's becoming a bit more of a clearer image of what the future holds, you know, a massive change for Everton.
01:19And we've spoken before about Goodison and the way that a bit of mediocrity sort of overshadowed it over the last, you know, 20 or so years.
01:27You know, it's obviously a fine line and so, so hard to sort of push on from being, you know, managing to survive and then going further and further at the Premier League table.
01:39But they are seemingly taking the right steps.
01:41You know, David Moyes has really, really come in and took charge and really revived Everton last season.
01:49Just on the stadium, how excited are you to go?
01:51How excited are Everton fans to go?
01:53And I'm sure the group of players are as well and Moyes as well in terms of this new modern technology that everything involved with the stadium, it's all sort of a positivity for the city as well.
02:06Yeah, and I think it'll drive Everton on and off the pitch, to be honest with you.
02:12I mean, we're talking off the pitch, revenues are going to be boosted markedly, which unfortunately, Everton couldn't do much more than they were doing at Goodison Park just because of the infrastructure.
02:23But they've built a stadium to drive them into the modern era and, you know, whether that's inside for your regular punter, your regular matchday goal or the hospitality, which the hospitality, that is something that drives the real revenue on a matchday.
02:44Anyway, the name and right you mentioned, Hill Dickinson, you know, that'll be big for Everton, multi-million pound deal, long-term deal.
02:54And I think it's right that maybe Everton, I've had a local company who is sponsoring the stadium, you know, a touch of, I don't want to, it just seems, it just seems apt, you know,
03:11but Everton are trying to keep roots to the city and rather than going out and maybe getting, look, I don't want, for me personally, you know, a Qatar Airways, something like that,
03:24it was mooters, you know, links, just wouldn't sit right with me. You want someone who's maybe got loads of the city or, so that'll help in terms of revenue coming in every season.
03:37And as you say, the players, why wouldn't you want to go and play in this stadium? Because it's magnificent now, you see, the two testers entered on the third one against AS Roman on the 9th of August.
03:48I think by then, all the sponsorship, et cetera, will be done around the stadium, that's sort of the last touches, which is understandable, you know, why that's getting left so late.
03:59There wasn't like a real don't and run, like there was that time in December for Everton, this, in the latest season, albeit they actually did quite well and picked up a few points in that period.
04:11But for me, you've got to play every once, twice, haven't you? As much of a cliche it is for, I think, Everton, get off to a decent start, build some momentum,
04:22get a couple of wins under the belt because the transfer window, they might be, the business might go late into the window.
04:32And if Everton has a good start, then that might just give them an extra little push, a little boost in terms of attracting players late on in the window.
