00:00Ivor the Engine, there he is, at the Ice Deathford in Llanmad.
00:20An Ice Deathford? You know what an Ice Deathford is.
00:22A Welsh festival of songs and poetry and music.
00:26Ivor is there with the Grumblian District Choral Society.
00:30Of which he is, as you know, first base.
00:33Every year the Grumblian District Choral Society goes to the Ice Deathford at Llanmad.
00:38And every year they win a prize.
00:46Evans the Song accepted a silver wreath for his choir as the best choir in the Twelve Values.
00:52Ivor, you shall wear it as a proud badge for us all.
00:57And proudly Ivor wore it as he pulled the festive carriage home to Grumbly Town.
01:05There's triumphant now, isn't it, Evansburg?
01:14The culmination of all our ambitions.
01:18Ah, George, it has been a very moving day.
01:22Yes, and hot too.
01:25Oh, yes. I was wondering.
01:27We'll be going past two in Beach on the way home.
01:32That's right.
01:33Well, the choir and I were wondering, um, if you and Ivor wouldn't mind, we might stop there and have a bath, like.
01:40It's a lovely day.
01:42You brought your bathing costume, then?
01:43Well, as a matter of fact, yes, we did.
01:46Just in case.
01:48And as a matter of fact, we brought one for you, if you'd care to join us.
01:52So, on the embankment, about two in Beach, they stopped.
01:58The Grumblian District Choral Society piled out of their carriages,
02:02changed into their bathing costumes,
02:03and ran, shouting and laughing and splashing,
02:07straight into the sea.
02:08Ivor stood on the siding by himself.
02:18He watched his friends having a grand time,
02:21and he thought to himself,
02:22what fun it must be to go bathing in the sea like that.
02:26There was Evans the Song, swimming very solemnly,
02:30and Eli the Baker, splashing like a fountain.
02:33Ivor laughed to himself to see everyone so happy.
02:35Then Evans the Song bought them all ice-cream cornets,
02:41and they played ball and ran about on the beach,
02:44while Ivor stood alone on the embankment.
02:50Oh, what are you looking so solemn about, Ivor?
02:53We had a lovely swim.
02:54Come on, everybody, time to go home.
02:56Oh, shh!

03:12and I was alone on that one's own.

03:21There we are then, home again.
03:23Oh, Ivor, I think I had better take the wreath off now.
03:28It'll only get dirty.
03:30I'll put it in the glass case in the chapel hall.
03:34Oh, Jones, are you coming down to the hall?
03:36I want to have a word about the outing.
03:38Oh, all right.
03:39I'm coming.
03:40Shalt be long, Ivor.
03:41Shhh!
03:45So, once again, Ivor was left by himself.
03:49He was quite used to being left by himself,
03:52but today it seemed different.
03:56Perhaps it was because he would have liked to do things like people do,
04:00talking and laughing and going bathing in the sea.
04:05Shhh!
04:06Hey, where are you off to?
04:22Hi, that's against regulations.
04:24Locomotives driving themselves.
