00:00Ivor the engine. Look, there he is. And he's absolutely rushing down the hill from Dinwiddie's gold mine.
00:13Oh yes, Jones the Steamer and Mr. Dinwiddie are bringing a lump of gold to show to Di.
00:17Mr. Dinwiddie is going to buy the railway with it. Oh, Di will be excited.
00:22Well, I dare say it is gold. In fact, I'm sure it is. But are you quite sure it's the best thing to do about the problem?
00:34Of course it is. It's Mr. Dinwiddie's gold. He can spend it how he likes.
00:37Oh, yes. But if he spends any of it, people will come to hear that there's gold in the hill and you know what will happen then.
00:44What will happen?
00:45There will be a gold rush.
00:47What do you mean?
00:48Great big machines tearing pieces out of the hill. Noisy, smelly towns growing up all round us.
00:55New railways built all over the valley and all over the hills.
00:59Oh dear, no. Oh no, I think that's worse.
01:01No, no, Mr. Dinwiddie, I think you're right. You better put your old gold back in the hill.
01:07Morning all. Well, you're a glum lot. Have they sold the railway or something?
01:15That is correct, Mrs. Porty.
01:18What? You're joking?
01:21Oh no, we're not, Mrs. Porty. Mr. Williams, the head office was here this morning.
01:26We're to be a branch line of the Welsh National. And there's to be no carting round donkeys for no reason.
01:31And timetables and tickets.
01:33And my loop line will be closed.
01:35And Ivor will have to go on to shunting at Pontypool Roads.
01:39Oh, there's tragedy. Oh, there's terrible news.
01:42Oh, Mr. Jones, I don't know what will happen to poor Bluebell.
01:46She'll be terribly sad without Ivor. Have you told them?
01:50Well, no, I haven't yet, Mrs. Porty.
01:52Come on, Jonesbach. We'll tell them now.
01:55Ivor, now listen, I'm afraid I've got bad news for us all.
02:02You see, the railway is going to be a bit different soon.
02:05The Welsh National are going to take over and you may be put on to some other sort of work.
02:09And, of course, it's been nice riding round on the railway with Ivor.
02:13But, like all these things, it can't go on forever.
02:16And Mr. Williams did say something about shunting at Pontypool Roads.
02:19And, of course, that's not a bad job.
02:21And Pontypool's a nice town, really, when you get used to it.
02:24And, oh, Ivor, don't weep.
02:27Oh, now, Bluebell, don't be sad.
02:30Oh, come on, Ivor. I'll wipe your windows.
02:33Mr. Jones.
02:35Oh, yes, Mrs. Porty.
02:37Mr. Jones, I am known to be very rich and I'm known to be very silly.
02:42Is that right?
02:43Well, you wouldn't put it quite like that.
02:45Unusual would be more polite or fanciful, some people say.
02:49Right.
02:50Well, today I'm going to do the silliest and most expensive thing I ever did.
02:55What's that, Mrs. Porty?
02:57Have you got a decent carriage on this rotten old railway?
03:01Oh, there's not a bad one round the back somewhere.
03:04It's black and gold.
03:05Well, get it out and dust it.
03:08We are going to Mary Arneth.
03:10Mary Arneth?
03:11But that's miles.
03:19And to Mary Arneth they went.
03:21It was later afternoon when they arrived at Mary Arneth Central.
03:24Mr. Williams was in his office.
03:26Oh, I...
03:29What's this?
03:30A deputation?
03:31Are you, Mr. Williams, of the head office?
03:34Yes, I am.
03:36Who are you?
03:38Oh, I beg your pardon, sir.
03:40This is Mrs. Porty.
03:43Oh, well, do sit down, Mrs. Porty and your gentlemen.
03:49Now then, what can I do for you?
03:52I want to buy the railway.
03:56The railway, Mrs. Porty?
03:59I want to buy the railway and I want to buy everything, lock, stock and barrel.
04:04Stock and barrel.
04:05But what are you going to do with it?
04:08I'm going to leave it as it is.
04:10Except that I shall do some of the work.
04:13And I'll have none of this sending either off to Pontypool roads for shunting
04:17and leaving my old donkey by herself.
04:20And buy it she did, Mrs. Porty.
04:23Lock, stock and barrel, engine and rolling stock, stations and sheds and signals.
04:28The lot.
04:29She signed a cheque for...
04:31Oh, I daren't tell you how much money.
04:33And then they all went home.
04:36Ok...
04:41Let's go...
04:44Let's go...
