00:00As part of efforts to enhance water supply in Livingstone, the Southern Water and Sanitation Company has successfully installed four new water pumps at the Zambezi raw water intake.
00:10These four pumps are part of the five that the utility company received from the government.
00:15This was done on the 9th of July when we received all the equipment and from that point we have been doing the installation works.
00:24Currently we have installed successfully four pumps and two motors.
00:30Mr. Habeinzu explains that the poor water supply in the city was partly attributed to the outdated and inefficient pumps previously used at the water intake facility.
00:39The pumps which we were using were quite odd and had lost efficiency.
00:45So you would see to say one pump was obstructing about 450 to 500 meter cubic per hour, but with the current pumps they are obstructing about 900 meter cubic per hour.
00:56So it is, we have more pumps, even obstructing more water from the Zambezi river.
01:02Meanwhile, a check by ZNBC New School found that most part of the city now have a 24-hour water supply, which was not the case before the installation.
