00:00Under Citizens for Better Environment, we monitor the water quality around, and we do not have any report which is indicating elevated levels of cyanide or uranium or other heavy metals in that water.
00:18Therefore, the way it was, that report was portraying things, it is as if now the people in Kitwe, in Chambishi, in Kalulushi are seriously exposed to dangerous chemicals, especially cyanide.
00:37It is a very toxic substance which kills people. If the kind of report we saw was genuine, we would have had a lot of people dying in Kitwe, in Kalulushi, and in Chambishi, where this water is consumed.
00:57And therefore, for us, we think that that report has very little to do with the actual pollution. We think that it's just an issue of geopolitics, where China and the U.S. are in this battle on trade.
01:20The water quality is not as portrayed. In fact, what we are working on now is to engage the American government to give us those consultants who issued that report.
01:37It's what we do a joint water quality assessment with them. We share the samples, we see whether what is reflecting in their report is indeed the current status of the water quality.
01:52And probably by next week, we should be able to get those consultants engaged, and we jointly carry out an assessment of the water quality.
