00:01We are in tough economic times and in this climate you need to stand out from the crowd.
00:08From across the country, 16 of Britain's brightest business prospects have come to London.
00:16I'm not interested in any steady eddies or cautious carols. I'm looking for someone who's exceptional.
00:23They're here to compete for a job with a six-figure salary, working for Britain's most belligerent boss.
00:30I can't believe seven people couldn't have come up with something better than that. Where's all your brains then?
00:36Serial entrepreneur and multi-millionaire, Lord Sugar is once again on the hunt for an apprentice.
00:43Some of the stuff I've heard coming out your mouth is a lot of hot air, so in the interest of climate change, I don't want to hear any more crap.
00:50Who is doing the minting?
00:52To land their dream job, the candidates need to work as teams.
00:57I thought that you would have known how to nail this.
01:01That was highly embarrassing.
01:02It's absolutely outrageous.
01:03But shine as individuals.
01:05Do you like this dress?
01:07Oh, this is a dumbass fit.
01:09I need everything spoon fed to me. Where's the spoon? Give me some spoon.
01:13Because in the end, there's just one job.
01:16You're fired. You're fired. Bunch of bloody amateurs. You are fired.
01:28Previously on The Apprentice.
01:30Your task is to sell the big screen experience to the general public.
01:35Cast as director.
01:37Yes or no?
01:38That's half up. Yes or no?
01:40Stuart put his foot down.
01:44To be honest, I don't think there's any point even calling the guy anymore.
01:47I think we just really need to make the decisions.
01:49On the other crew...
01:50My neck is on line. I'm project manager right now.
01:53Sandish backed Jamie's downhill ski movie.
01:56Click, click, let's go.
01:59But on the shop floor...
02:01Can't help but notice you're looking at our DVD experience and you're right, it is that damn good.
02:06Selling snow proved an uphill struggle.
02:08Are you interested in being in our movie?
02:10No!
02:11Stuart's team...
02:13Abigail!
02:14Are you driving the car?
02:16...raced ahead.
02:17Well, it's £10 then, please. Thank you very much.
02:20And in the boardroom, they were first across the finish line.
02:24Stuart, your team won.
02:25I'm so proud of everyone.
02:26Jamie hit a blizzard of criticism.
02:29I'm being made out to be some kind of bulldozer here.
02:32If you have somebody coming down every hour and saying,
02:34you should be doing this, you should be doing that, it seems a bit sulky.
02:36But a bad call...
02:38I'll have to bring in Chris and Liz.
02:40...throws out Sandish.
02:42You're up against two very strong contenders here.
02:44And she became the seventh casualty of the boardroom.
02:48You're fired.
02:49Thank you anyway.
02:50Now eight remain to fight for the chance to become The Apprentice.
02:56Good morning.
02:57Good morning.
02:58This is Lord Sugar's office calling.
02:59You must pack a bag for a two-day foreign business trip.
03:00Please pack clothes for all weather.
03:01We've got a pack for a foreign business trip.
03:03Hey!
03:04Oh, my God!
03:05Thank God!
03:06You're going away!
03:07I don't think Lord Sugar's going to be nice to us.
03:08So he might be sending us a sign.
03:09I don't think Lord Sugar's going to be nice to us.
03:10So he might be sending us a sign.
03:11...somewhere completely obscure.
03:12I'd think either a war zone or somewhere hot.
03:14A war zone?
03:15Maybe a hot war zone.
03:16How the God damn hell are they going to send us to a war zone?
03:18Does anybody else here speak any languages?
03:19I speak very good English.
03:20I speak very good English.
03:21I was going to say, yeah.
03:22Christopher, you're pretty good at speaking right.
03:23I speak great English.
03:24I don't think Lord Sugar's going to be nice to us.
03:25So he might be sending us somewhere completely obscure.
03:28I'd think either a war zone or somewhere hot.
03:31A war zone?
03:32Maybe a hot war zone.
03:33Maybe a hot war zone.
03:34How the God damn hell are they going to send us to a war zone?
03:43Does anybody else here speak any languages?
03:45I speak very good English.
03:46I was going to say, yeah.
03:48Christopher, you're pretty good at speaking rubbish as well.
03:50Yay!
03:51Yeah.
03:52We've established between us, we've got absolutely no language skills.
03:55We're screwed.
03:58Belgrade, home to around 40 foreign embassies.
04:03Oh, what's that flag just there?
04:05No, it's like a German flag with an eagle in the middle.
04:08I hate the Germans as well.
04:10Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
04:13Technically, we are on German soil.
04:19Now, Germany is Britain's largest European export market.
04:27technically we are on german soil now germany is britain's largest european export market
04:40and this next task is for you to become part of that trading relationship you'll be representing
04:49two small uk crisp companies that are keen to get into this very lucrative market
04:56you're going to come up with different flavors of crisps make some samples take them to hamburg
05:03and get some orders as ever the team that collects the most amount of orders wins
05:11and in the losing team one of you will be fired have a good trip and i'll see you back in the
05:18boardroom in a few days time hamburg germany's gateway to international trade
05:31and a snack market worth millions of euros dominated by strong continental flavors
05:39big business the british have yet to take a bite out of
05:42in partnership with two uk crisp companies the teams must come up with original flavors to entice
05:52the germans does anyone feel that they want to do this project management i'm going to rule myself
05:58out straight away i'm absolutely knackered after doing it last time yeah i'd be keen to do it i
06:04would know you'd be keen to do it definitely i think i'm happy to be i'm happy to be i think that
06:08stella's got to be the one that we select in my mind just because you can't stop stella from planning
06:13she plans and planned meticulously i'm happy to step up to that and let's just get back on with it
06:19because i voted for her that doesn't mean that she's the best person for the job
06:22nor is she in fact a very good project manager if we win then we'll all be on a treat and if we
06:28lose stella will be going home in a black cab so really i can't lose in this task on the other team
06:34chris the candidate with the worst boardroom record volunteers i've lost three tasks in a row now and
06:41i'm desperate not to lose another one i'll do everything in my power to ensure that we can win
06:45so chris i'd vote for chris all right brilliant thanks very much guys i would rather have my
06:51destiny in my own hands than be following somebody else's leadership i'm very confident i'll do a
06:55good job next the flavors people ultimately want to buy what they feel comfortable with at the end of
07:01the day what modern german for example it has to be sort of something which is strong and very
07:07traditional to the heritage but with a modern twist let's just just throw some ideas of flavors
07:11up on the board sausage okay so i really think breakfast to me sells germany goulash goulash i
07:17think you can make a really strong distinctive flavor of crisps with goulash i'm champion goulash as
07:21well we are all british if we turn up somewhere it's going to be difficult for us to say these are
07:27authentic german crisps i wouldn't go down that can have like literally sausage and egg flavor they don't
07:31get more british than that so our theme is traditional british we like our sunday dinners yeah so maybe
07:39a traditional sunday roast and i think that will go okay yeah i like that idea we've got the the sunday
07:46roast so we now need two other flavors maybe like a curry pie you know curry chicken tikka masala
07:56it's a it's a thing but it's not going with this
08:01everyone loves curries and we have to have passion about these free flavors and we love curries it's
08:06something that we're confident about i reckon we would have had some really good flavors if we
08:11hadn't have had joanna bulldozing through this curry idea the entire time so we've got to be very
08:17careful now not to sort of waver off into the wrong direction midday both project managers stay in britain to
08:27control their crisp making the rest head for hamburg never ever been to germany before so i don't know
08:36what to expect i've been to germany quite a few times actually do you think the language barrier is going
08:40to be a problem it's never for me it sounds like you're talking italian
08:53one two three four five six seven eight nine seven eleven twelve thirteen four seven five 16 17 18 19 20
09:05fairfield's farm essex spud grower and producer of gourmet crisps to take the brand to germany project
09:15manager chris we see this is a really exciting opportunity for us as a small business to break
09:21into a market abroad which we haven't currently explored so uh we're really excited to see what
09:26you come up with first one we were thinking of was kind of like a beef goulash because it's quite
09:30popular in the german market we think they could merge quite well with a crisp actually should we
09:35crack on the yeah yeah okay over in hamburg jamie and christopher on the hunt for authentic local
09:44flavors uncover germany's favorite fast food currywurst
09:51spy currywurst
09:56spicy oh yes
09:58yes
10:09thank you
10:14that was spot on for me it really hit the spot it was nice if we get that coming out in our
10:17crisps yeah yeah yeah i reckon we'll nail it honestly i really do hi chris how's it going
10:21yeah good they are we've just been into this curryware shop right delicious really nice flavors
10:27are so intense honestly i think the flavor is going to go really well um i just wanted to confirm
10:33with you guys you're happy to go forward with curried sausage
10:38okay guys well thanks very much for your feedback okay cheers mate bye
10:41gloucestershire flavor laboratory of crisp newcomer darling spuds
10:50taking it into germany stella and her team we like to go for quirky flavors as you've probably seen
10:56so uh be as inventive as you can good and we're really playing on this british scene
11:02what is that actual scene that's a beef flavor okay what about beef and chili yeah great idea
11:07would it go with paprika stelton yeah yeah no it should do
11:17on the ground in hamburg out to see if traditional british flavors will fly with the locals
11:24stewart and joanna good morgan and sugar gone uh chips chips chips chips chips yeah yeah
11:31oh thank god i love paprika joe indian style it's curry is a theme curry so we've definitely got curry
11:41out of it yeah yeah you you like chips you like you like to eat chips or i like some hot chips paprika
11:49okay what about do you like english food um fish and chips yes yeah and shepherd's pie
11:55oh okay would you like to see them flavors coming over here to germany in a chip i think not okay thanks
12:03a lot for your time take care bye-bye it's so so obvious that paprika and curry sauce and sausage
12:11are three themes which run throughout germany throughout their culinary tastes and also for the
12:17large part through their crisps the only thing absent from their crisps is sausage and maybe that's a gap
12:22that we need to exploit with 1200 types of sausage in germany stewart makes a start new
12:28back sausage they have pork sausage white sausage white sausage i've got one of those you should try
12:36this i'm sure i'm sure i'm fine what flavor is it sausage it's really nice actually i think i need to try
12:50some more i don't think it's wrong to say that we're enjoying this market research a little bit cheers
13:00thank you hi stella it's joanna out of the market research yep paprika is massive they love that
13:07they like sausages and they like curry right okay just an update basically what we're what we're making
13:12at the moment is i don't know if the people are going to take to this okay so we're going off here
13:33what we've been told they like curry they like paprika and they like sausage let me just say this
13:41what you need to incorporate with these crisps a sausage and curry joe joe joe joe please please
13:47please just listen just for one minute we are literally making these things now they like curry
13:52they like paprika and they like sausage just try it okay thanks stella it's impossible i mean what what
14:00they're doing is telling us what germans eat i mean we eat bacon and eggs but we don't have bacon and egg
14:06crisps have i got my point across clearly enough i want a sausage i want a curry and i want paprika
14:17back in essex chris's modern german flavors are taking shape we're now in a bit of a groove here you know
14:24the teams can take two flavors to hamburg for chris curry burst is one
14:34and the second smoked sausage and sauerkraut
14:37they're horrid i really dislike them i think they're a bit older actually
14:45goulash yeah
14:47that's really nice
14:54for stella the best of british
14:58these are the beef yeah
14:59it's aberdeen english yeah
15:01what ones of these again the stilton
15:04they're really really sweet aren't they
15:07so this is the ham and pickle gosh they smell really strong don't they
15:10mind you a prawn cocktail a bit okay so we're going for the beef and the stilton yeah you're
15:20cool are you happy with that yeah i've told you what i think i think you need to make a call and
15:24then we'll go okay so you want to go with you want to go with i don't take them don't take my call
15:29take your own i'm not the pm so the flavors we're taking to germany are stilton and paprika yep and
15:36chili and beef okay great all right flavors fixed next batch is ready okay great now knock up enough
15:46samples to wet german appetites and in hamburg find some customers for tomorrow's sales push
15:55i'm julian hello my name is steward is much a mid-manager sprechen she's the manager steward
16:02guten morgen sprechen the english hello speaking mit her langdorf danke it's stuart calling from apollo
16:14i'm gonna call myself hair bags because that's what i technically are hello it's hair bags calling
16:25targeting upmarket lakeside joanna and stuart let's go here over that cafe over there because that looks big
16:31yeah yeah while jamie and christopher head downtown this looks rough and ready
16:38oh look very rough if i wanted sexy time i think i would come here yeah i think you're quite right
16:46hello speaking with the manager uh yeah yeah okay yeah look in the english yes of course
16:53yeah that's is wunderbar we're from the united kingdom and we're bringing three new flavored chips over
17:01to sell in germany okay me and joanna have very different approaches it seems to selling abroad
17:07she's being very blunt and quite rude and also speaking very fast is there any way we can book
17:11an apart you can book an appointment on his behalf let me tell you a bit about what we're doing i think
17:16there's been a few times when joanna has just gone you're right mate or hello and you know make an
17:20attempt at the language we're from the uk from england i'm no we're from england i come from tunisia
17:28i must sound so stupid to them but i think it's slightly endearing that i actually try
17:34but that's hotel it's uh wonderful the manager speaking english yeah yeah thank you really
17:42am i home yeah yeah yeah that's it's wonderful
17:50on the phone a potential appointment with a large hotel chain the marriott it's pressure the english
17:57good good we're selling a new type of chips what i'm hoping to do is make an appointment with you
18:05tomorrow where i would i have time at nine o'clock in the morning or at one o'clock if we could do nine
18:13o'clock that'd be super yeah we could do nine o'clock no problem and whereabouts is the hotel can we change
18:20that appointment from nine to one o'clock if possible please one o'clock see you tomorrow then bye bye
18:29oh man get in there that is good we've got it now that is amazing you can't get many more mini bars
18:35in these hotels seriously get an extinguisher and put me out i am burning hot but chasing the same
18:43business we're in hamburg tomorrow and i'd love to come and meet you um in the morning to book an
18:49appointment stewart and joanna yeah i can make nine o'clock i look forward to meeting you tomorrow
18:55in the morning bye bye we've got good meetings there i've worked out we've got around eight
19:00appointments tomorrow's a new dawn a new day let's make some money exactly fill those order books
19:08i really think we've had a good day today you know we've come out here to a country where we
19:12don't even speak remotely any of their language and we've booked massive appointments
19:19they're we don't know what we want to have done we've been doing what we did last night
19:247am
19:31joined overnight by their project managers seem really excited about the fact that ultimately
19:37this is something that germany has never seen before absolutely
19:41the teams must try to break into the german crisp market we've come over from the uk with a naturally
19:47british line of gourmet luxury chips as well as appointments made yesterday lord sugar has lined
19:54up some large local businesses laura yeah you're going at nine o'clock with stewart
19:59to the international distributor fantastic but i'm not sure if i'm entirely happy with this
20:05because i won't be at any of the big meetings well it's going to be about trust i think
20:09orders could trigger the export of the new flavors of crisps from the uk manufacturers each team
20:21represents first for stella's team the nine o'clock appointment with the marriott hotel
20:29booked yesterday by joanna is there anything that he's going to ask us he's going to probably ask
20:34about the delivery do you want to how do you reckon you're doing the pictures today i think it will
20:39go something like this hi do you want to buy some crisps i think you should really buy some crisp
20:44guys because he's a really hard quality crisp i'm going to talk really fast and really point my
20:47finger at you a lot like this and you're going to buy some aren't you like that welcome to hamburg
20:52thank you thank you thanks for taking time to see us today we're representing a british manufacturer of
20:58chips to to push this product to all the people of german germany so um at the moment they're a great
21:07success in the uk and we're confident that there'll be a runaway success in germany too okay the first
21:13flavor is the aberdeen angus steak with chili yeah very good brilliant our next flavor thomas is an english
21:24stilton and paprika
21:29they would increase beverage sales definitely and that's a good thing yeah i think so too what i'd
21:35love to do thomas is get something sealed today and get the balls rolling okay yeah so are you happy
21:41for us to start on the basis that there will be 80 packets per day yeah that's right yeah we can do that
21:47and more seven days a week yeah if we order for this first six months so um three months three months
21:55three months three months yes it came across that you really enjoyed this flavor and you know you're
22:00sure i'm sure that your customers will enjoy this flavor as well so how i was thinking is maybe if we
22:04order them for the year and then we have a call-off period i think that that's well okay then six months
22:09it's fine yeah six months yeah six months is fine okay let me just double check this so it's
22:14five thousand and forty euros excluding delivery okay brilliant
22:21and you can keep the crisps because we knew how much you enjoyed them all right
22:23with your friends okay thank you
22:28for the rest of stella's team stewart and laura the first of lord sugar's appointments the one thing i'd say
22:34yesterday yesterday yesterday yeah is joanna talked far too fast oh yeah no i will i'll talk very
22:41slowly major european food distributor mike sandwich if we can name this we've won the task actually
22:49good morning i'm steward and my colleague laura good morning
22:58oh my god you're speaking even german that's great yeah so first of all um
23:03as i'm sure you're aware the world has changed and uh we know that the gourmet hand-cooked natural
23:08crisp market is the next big thing it is in england it is over the world and this is what we're here to
23:12introduce to you today you can see we're really excited by it because we have a pretty good idea of
23:16where germany is going with with the crisp market this is one of our lines that we've introduced now
23:21because this is recent at the moment let's let's go one step back this i didn't understand and also just
23:26something to add in here quickly if you wouldn't mind and the two flavors i'd like to present you to today
23:30aberdeen angus beef with a hint of chili second of all we have our english stilton with paprika flavor
23:37i had really trouble to understand what was the second one smoky paprika with again one of the
23:42nation's favorite flavors i have very confidence that the people that are buying neither the people
23:46that are going to be the people that will make success in the coming years
23:52this is not at all my taste but i would like to discuss this uh with our people today
23:57and the rest we have to see you definitely spoke too fast i don't think i did because
24:04i was struggling to understand what you said and it concerns me that obviously he wouldn't
24:07make an instant decision i don't know what else i could have done so
24:10on the other team with no appointments till later christopher and jamie take their german flavors
24:23door to door we'll have a look around we'll try some of these cafes up here cafe
24:28closed we've come over to hamburg from the uk what we've brought with us is chips yeah funny the the
24:46the name from from the chips is the funny funny chips no no no not funny
24:51um now we've got two flavors goulash and currywurst i'll try the goulash first
25:03good but you like the taste it's a little bit a little bit fat you know fat and strong
25:14i mean the other flavor which we brought with us is currywurst
25:21no no no no you don't know no i don't like it no well okay then well thank you very much for your
25:32time you're welcome bye
25:39for project manager chris along with liz another of lord sugar's leads
25:44sounds like this really is something which we could absolutely nail on the head
25:48car stack germany's best known chain of department stores basically we think we've identified a gap
25:54in the market and this is that we can bring german flavors to the german market but with a british
25:59style of cooking we've developed the vibrant currywurst chips
26:08i can't taste the currywurst to be honest okay do you want to try the goulash all right
26:18do you like the flavor is it is it maybe not strong enough
26:21it's not really if you wouldn't tell me it's goulash i wouldn't know
26:29get me up there i thought there was a car coming
26:33there's a kiosk there which we should go to
26:35i don't think a pharmacy mate
26:37what we're trying to do is introduce
26:49a new style of chips that would go with your lunch okay so you have your bagel and some chips next
26:56to it is very common in england and what we're looking for is a small order you actually be the
27:01first shop to have these for sale i'm not um the manager to decide if we buy it or not where's he
27:09today i don't know yeah okay so we've told about the crisps she loves the crisps she's not the
27:17decision maker yeah and if we went in there and said you're the decision maker no can't just walk out
27:22thank god we've got all these other appointments because this is not fun at all hi there it's chris
27:27how's it going listen listen we've been working like troopers we've had fun curry and goulash has
27:34been very well received sounds like you've actually done some really good sales today
27:39sounds absolutely fantastic in that case and i really appreciate it
27:43speech you soon onwards and upwards
27:47just three hours left to get hamburgers hooked on crisps
27:51hello speaking english guten morgen we're speaking kind of deutsch sprechen sie english
28:02yes we can learn english that's is good have you got the samples yeah
28:07good morning peter my colleague and laura yeah hello please call laura
28:15okay we need to ask someone where's all the food places around here
28:21it's okay you taste the flavors yeah it really tastes like clever goes it's good yeah 40 curry
28:30versed 30 goulash at 14 euros per box that sounds like a bill to me next next i don't want to say
28:36any more apart from next bring it on let's go
28:39fixed earlier laura and stewart have one big appointment another hotel chain the hyatt this
28:51needs to be a massive order 10 000 euros we need yeah no more than that but their project manager is
28:58already there just want to sort of utilize the last bit of time that we've got left because if we
29:02could get another good order like we did this morning hi guys hi stewart
29:07which appointment are you going to you now right we're at the hyatt because we've we've finished our
29:12last appointment can you continue on to the next meeting okay i'll pop onto laura for two seconds so we're
29:18going to we're going to this independent tiny store now i'm a bit surprised seeing as we've kind of like
29:23agreed that you guys have had you know yours and we're prepared for ours now we're on our way we're
29:28here now there are two appointments i don't see any issue with who's doing what appointment
29:34fact is we just got to get the orders in what's the issue nothing okay so we'll go to that one
29:39thanks very much and we'll talk to you as soon as we're done here
29:45well it's disappointing isn't it that they've just robbed our appointment that's unbelievable
29:50we've got order books so it's total bollocks it's not important i'm just i'm i just give up
29:56that's it right let's not give up yeah seriously i don't even give a shit anymore okay well i i do
30:00give a shit okay so let's do a shit then well of course i give a shit but why are you being negative
30:05because they're pieces of shit and they've left us with some shitty cafe this is how business
30:09works people it's not this is not how business works hi hi hello hi hi david i'm stella
30:20the marriott hotel booked by jamie and christopher for 1pm i believe you spoke to christopher yesterday
30:27absolutely liz and chris are ready to pitch i'm sorry guys i have to tell you i cannot place an order
30:33with you because i placed an order with the product i'm i was very convinced of this morning they're
30:38very exciting flavors so i cannot do it with you i'm sorry was that an english vendor who yes it was also
30:43an english vendor yeah that's right that's unfortunate why not test it alongside the other product
30:48i ordered those products and i placed a pretty large order on there which is going to last me
30:51for a few months at the offer you just made me i'm sorry i cannot accept it it's a shame thomas
30:56because we're here today one day only i think you would like to be one of the first people which really
31:00has you know the opportunity to really be seen as promoting this product this seems to me a little
31:05unprofessional i'm sorry to say that okay thank you very much thanks for your time thank you thank you
31:09bye bye hi chris how's it going mate unfortunately the marriott hotel
31:23it seemed a british supplier this morning who brought two flavors
31:29he saw them first thing oh obviously that's a bit of a kick in the team
31:33them getting there at the time which they've got there's nothing we can do about you you know
31:38then that's the time which we bought back at the bagel chain unlike jamie and christopher
31:46stella and joanna meet the manager okay 1213 euros got a deal thank you excellent
31:59oh god can we just go back to the hotel this is a joke hello stuart this is my colleague laura
32:08we might win but in a way i hope we don't because i don't think stella deserves to win on this task
32:12i think she's treated us outrageously and i just you know i've literally i've tried my best so if we
32:17do win it will be great but if we don't i'm not going to be surprised so the minimum order's 10 boxes
32:22usually for us too much really yes oh okay five boxes then thank you very much thank you so much
32:31what's that foxy food joe foxy food there with a plane to catch hi time is running out
32:40five boxes of each at 15 euros per box is that something right yes absolutely thank you very much
32:49i really can't walk on these cobbles i thought i was doing corporate pictures not running around
32:54cafes this is chilly so we just go to 10 boxes oh yeah there's a place there got the orange one all of
33:06them we really need these orders right right now
33:13what we've done is we've taken flavors inspired by german cuisine actually we'll say they taste good
33:18okay willing to maybe think about taking a trial order then on the basis of tasting the
33:23yeah absolutely i can imagine yes the flavors are strong that's for sure you know we we do our
33:28distribution uh not only in germany but a lot of countries in europe if we fit it together with
33:33our sandwiches sure and then we can go next step thanks very much for the opportunity and i hope to
33:38hear you again shortly
33:44auf wiedersehen hamburg next stop the boardroom

34:26You can go through to the border now.
34:56Good morning.
34:57Good morning.
35:01Apollo team leader was Stella?
35:04Yes.
35:05You appointed yourself, did you?
35:07I did.
35:08Stuart declared himself knackered.
35:10Knackered?
35:11He was knackered.
35:12He said he was knackered.
35:13Right.
35:14OK.
35:15So how was Stella as your team leader?
35:21All happy?
35:22I was happy.
35:23Yes.
35:24I don't want to take it back because she criticised me last week, I think, to be objective.
35:28It could have had a little bit more structure in my opinion.
35:30The point is that we immediately came to the conclusion that we wanted to sell something
35:35that would be indicative of Britain.
35:37I made the decision.
35:39We moved forward.
35:40I was very happy with what we were doing.
35:41I felt that we were representing the manufacturer very well.
35:44Right.
35:45So for both teams, I set up two appointments.
35:48Yeah.
35:49Who went and approached the organisations that I set up?
35:52Myself and Joanna went to the department store and then Laura and Stuart went on to the
35:58international distributor.
35:59And then we moved to the department store.
36:00How did that pitch go there?
36:01I made a real effort in there.
36:02I introduced us both in German and said it's really nice to be here.
36:05Really?
36:06Were you hair bags now?
36:07I am hair bags, yeah.
36:08Yeah.
36:09Hair brained or hair bags?
36:12Maybe a bit of both.
36:14He loved the fact that we were bringing a gourmet product because obviously his line
36:17that he distributes was gourmet anyway.
36:19That was obvious to us when we walked in.
36:21He was very interested in the flavours.
36:22When he tasted the crisps, he said they were fantastic.
36:25Did you speak at this speed to this German fellow?
36:28I did actually tell Laura to slow down.
36:30The feedback that I got was that the guy said he didn't really understand what you were
36:35talking about, Laura.
36:36Okay.
36:37He was going too fast, rattle, rattle, rattle, rattle, rattle like that.
36:40And that is one of the things that you have to understand when you're dealing with
36:43overseas buyers is that they need you to speak in what I used to call export English,
36:48where you slow down and you accentuate all of your words.
36:52Okay.
36:53Alright.
36:54Synergy.
36:55Chris, you're the team leader I heard.
36:57Is that right?
36:58That's right, yeah.
36:59And I understand that having been resident in this boardroom so many times before that
37:04you had a resolve to make sure you weren't going to be back in here for too long.
37:08Is that right?
37:09Well, absolutely, you know.
37:10I mean, I was aware that there's been comments and maybe I've become complacent
37:13and I was keen to show that that isn't the case and I certainly don't believe it
37:17is, so.
37:18Erm, your flavours.
37:19The German branding didn't feel that was a bit condescending then, English coming over
37:24there making stuff that was supposed to be typically German.
37:28I was quite keen to ensure that we weren't going to try and reinvent the wheel or do anything
37:32which was too crazy because people don't want to eat it, it's a waste of time.
37:36So you had a, yeah, alright, so when you all bowled in the second day with your samples
37:40and all that stuff, you'd already got some appointments set up other than my two?
37:44Basically, our first appointment kicked off at 10.30 in the morning, so rather than just
37:49sit on our laurels, we hit a street which we knew had loads of cafes, delis, appropriate
37:55places.
37:56Did you work out the old thing about the organ grinder and the monkey?
38:00In other words, sometimes you end up talking to someone in a shop who's not actually authorised
38:05to buy?
38:06Yeah, there was one where she couldn't make an order, but she loved the crisps.
38:10It don't make no difference.
38:11You'd ask the customer who's got the authority to buy.
38:15What's the purpose of talking to the cleaner or the receptionist?
38:18OK, well, I think we'd better see how we got on with our German cousins.
38:31First of all, we'll look at the orders we got from the companies that I set up for you, yeah?
38:37So, Nick, how did Apollo do in Karstadt?
38:42They quite liked the product, but they wanted to trial it, so it was a very small order of 135 euros.
38:54135 euros, right. And Karen in Karstadt?
38:58Well, they also wanted to trial it and placed a smaller order of 68 euros.
39:04This is Karstadt, right? Yeah?
39:06Mm-hm.
39:07One of the biggest retailers in Germany. 68 euros.
39:10Mm-hm.
39:11OK.
39:13Now, Nick, on Mike's sandwich for Apollo?
39:18Yes. Well, that came in at 7,455 euros.
39:24Oh.
39:25A big leap.
39:26Good.
39:27And Karen, Mike's sandwich for Team Synergy.
39:31Well, they were really, really impressed by the pitch and placed a very big order.
39:3714,289 euros.
39:40Wow.
39:42Getting better.
39:47Now, while we're with you, Karen, what I would call the door-to-door sales,
39:50the sales that they got from their own customers that they found, what did that come to?
39:54Um, door-to-door sales, 3,638 euros, making a grand total of 17,995 euros.
40:07And Nick?
40:08Um, came in strong, 11,737 euros, giving a total of 19,327 euros.
40:20Oh.
40:21That's very good.
40:22You've actually done more business from your own appointments.
40:25Very, very good.
40:26A very good job done for the manufacturer that you were representing.
40:29I'm sure they'd, they'll be delighted.
40:32I must say, Joanna, your perseverance paid off.
40:35And I thought by the end of it, you were really firing on all 12 cylinders.
40:39Good.
40:40So, your treat this week is a shopping trip to some of London's great fashion designers in Mayfair,
40:49where you'll be given an allowance to kind of get yourself out with some stuff.
40:54And then afterwards, relax in one of the nice Mayfair hotels.
40:59Oh, wow.
41:00All right.
41:01Well done.
41:03Well done, guys.
41:04Well done, guys.
41:05Well done.
41:06As usual, I'm going to give you the opportunity of going off and having a chat amongst yourselves.
41:18At the end of the day, one of you will be leaving the process.
41:21Okay?
41:22Off you go.
41:24I don't know, it's just pretty devastating, really.
41:41It's pretty difficult now because this is the third week in a row that I've been in the bottom three,
41:45which doesn't really look particularly great for me.
41:48You know, sometimes you come out and you've lost and you think,
41:51if any of that twat hadn't done this or something, you can't really, you know,
41:54it's not one of them.
41:55It's like, you've done a good job.
41:56The other team has just done a little bit better and, you know, you feel absolutely sick.
42:01I haven't really worked with Chris much.
42:03However, I know he's been in the boardroom.
42:05He's been in the final three a few times.
42:07And because he was there pitching to the big companies,
42:10he's probably, unfortunately, going to be the full guy here.
42:14Well, I still hope that ultimately things that I've done in the past in this process
42:19will count in my favour, but it's pretty hard to take, to be honest.
42:30Oh, wow. Thank you very much.
42:32Thank you. This is a gorgeous shop.
42:34Oh, yeah, I like that.
42:36Yeah, love it.
42:37You look so suave.
42:39That's the one. I love it.
42:41How much?
42:43£800.
42:44How do you know that?
42:45You could buy a car for that.
42:47A car or a shoe.
42:53Do you like it?
42:55I love it.
42:56It's trendy.
42:57Do you?
42:58Don't you like it?
42:59Um, I'm not that keen, I have to be honest.
43:01I really like it.
43:02Stuart, to be honest, you need some new shoes for the boardroom,
43:05because they've seen better days.
43:06My shoes?
43:07Yeah.
43:08They're Fran's pumpkin.
43:09No.
43:10That's it.
43:11Oh, my God.
43:12Oh!
43:13Oh!
43:14Stuart!
43:15Sorry, what have you got on from here?
43:17This.
43:18What, the whole thing?
43:19Yeah.
43:20I think I'm worse.
43:21I'm confused.
43:22What, the shirt and the jumper?
43:23Yeah.
43:24That looks lovely.
43:25It looks really good.
43:26Give us a twirl.
43:27Have you tucked in?
43:28I guess I've tucked in.
43:29You've got, like, an effort.
43:30That looks lovely.
43:31It does actually look really nice.
43:33.
43:59Could you send the four of them in, please?
44:01I'm getting bit sick and tired of seeing your face here as the losing team it reminds me of
44:22turning up at the same hotel every year on holiday and seeing the same bloody people
44:27have you worked out where you think this went wrong I guess if you look at the results breakdown you'd
44:35have to say that the door-to-door sales weren't good enough because we beat the other team in
44:39the pitches so they had nine appointments and you had six and the nine appointments that they had
44:46they actually took a lot of money from them they took eleven thousand seven hundred euros in contrast
44:52your three thousand six hundred of interest was there one order in particular which was high in
44:57the eleven thousand there was one actually and the thing is is that Christopher from what I've
45:02understood got an appointment with a chain of hotels you was offered a nine o'clock or a one
45:09o'clock appointment you took the one o'clock this is news to me and then when you got there you know
45:14what happened yeah the other team had got in and they got themselves a five thousand euro order yeah
45:20early bird catches the worm yeah right nine o'clock appointment always take the earliest appointment
45:26you turned up at one o'clock the other lot had got in first yeah what was the reason why we took the
45:32one o'clock appointment we actually booked the nine o'clock appointments initially and then Jeremy
45:36said can we push it back to later on in the day and that was when we decided to sort of make a later
45:40appointment with him wonder why why did you change the appointment matter of interest I'm trying to
45:45recall it in my own brain and early word catches a burn without a doubt a bird without a doubt this
45:51is the first I ever heard that you got a choice so I literally was told you'd managed to secure one
45:55o'clock appointment I never even knew about there was the opportunity for a nine o'clock appointment had
46:00I have been aware of that or Christopher we could have maybe discussed it and therefore put that nine
46:05I am no way gonna be the full guy I'll decide who's gonna be the full guy sorry no but I just see
46:10where it's going now I also heard when you got to this place that having heard that they took an
46:17order from the other team you took carried on to try and sell in some crisps desperation any crisp I
46:24think you said to me fly for anything you want I'd rather try so hard that and then even get some
46:29orders then just give up the ghost and you did try hard you tried really hard so hard in fact that you
46:36annoyed the guy upset him he found you quite unprofessional I think he could smell your
46:41desperation the bagel shop also you sat there talking to somebody who had no authority to buy
46:46and just to rub more salt into the wound along came your other team and they actually sold to
46:52the bagel shop they sold 111 boxes because they'd got an appointment with them the hotel deal they got
46:59there before and sold the bagel deal you got there first and they got there afterwards and sold so
47:05it doesn't sound that great does it really in an organizational terms really you know clearly the
47:12quality of the appointments that we had and the fact that we've turned down the quality of the
47:16appointments were fine the people who we went to meet where they ordered the bagel shop which we
47:21didn't have an appointment with but we sold good orders to little shops you went to the two biggest
47:26hotels well one of them was after the other team but it doesn't matter it's only one value one which
47:31was one hotel if I can interject the two teams were divided by small independents big pictures the
47:38hotels were big the pictures the euro range were big and out of the four one worked and it works
47:44really well but if you manage to secure deals like that on the other three we wouldn't be sitting here
47:48so that needs to be looked at one of them was redundant because they'd already bought that day so
47:52there's no point talking about that one the bagel shop order which they clearly beat us to
47:56that you know that's a large order they're two biggest orders they beat us to because they got
48:01an appointment right on one of them and they saw the right person on the other one so Christopher you
48:07heard what Chris has got to say what have you got to say about the failure of the task yeah it's
48:12disappointing that we failed the task we all worked really well the reason the reason I know it's
48:15disappointing I'm disappointed sitting here looking at your face again all four of you but I'm talking
48:21about the reason it's just because we didn't sell enough I mean me and Jamie upsold to our maximum
48:26at a higher price than what we did and the other guys I mean they went to people if they bought
48:31earlier in the morning we had different flavors yeah they might not have bought loads but they could
48:35have still placed an order and with the other hotel I agree that somebody buys five thousand euros a
48:40crisp in the morning and then boys another five thousand in the afternoon Chris you know the process now who
48:50are you bringing back in to this boardroom well it's on the basis of the reasons why I think we lost
48:57our staff to bring back in Jamie and Christopher okay Liz go back to the house you have the three wait
49:09outside I'll be calling you back in shortly one of you is gonna get fired okay off you go
49:14did Chris have a handle on this little expedition no he didn't I mean I think he thought genuinely that six
49:31appointments was quite good he keeps saying here oh but I didn't know about this I don't know about that
49:38nobody told me this the leaders meant to be leaving my concern about Christopher Farrell is
49:47that you know I I've just got the feeling that he was what I call a hole digger a wall builder and yet
49:53on this task he decided Ron I'll go out and and I'll show that I can actually sell and do other things
49:59often well he hasn't actually sold is it and the other fellow Jamie well do I get the feeling that he
50:06started off very very good and he's kind of slowly sliding downwards right well Chris this is the sixth time
50:34you've been on a losing team your resume says doesn't take losing well this is your your own words
50:43what is what is going on is this a message that I'm getting from above somewhere that's telling me
50:49that you are a loser I'm not a loser at the end of the day well I mean obviously I have in terms of
50:55the numbers which you have but I mean I don't think that I'm genuinely responsible for any of those losses
51:00I do think sometimes people get unlucky in terms maybe the teams they're in or maybe my house when
51:06people start talking to me about unlucky in business there's no luck in business I have to tell you it's
51:12not something that I like to hear used a lot in business time you know I find myself in the bottom
51:16three here because I at least stepped up to the plate and actually wanted to be project manager and
51:20that's because I'm not here just to make up the numbers or try and survive a few weeks you know I
51:23want to win this thing Christopher this is the first time you've been back in the last three I
51:29think one of the reasons it's the first time you've been back in the last three is because you get on
51:34very well with most of the people in the house and I think in many cases because you have worked so hard
51:41physically hard I think they found it difficult to bring you in here my problem is is that it's what
51:48you're working hard at it's working harder you know logistics it's working hard at you know packing
51:54the boxes making sure the production lines running all very necessary in business but not exactly what
52:01I'm looking for I'm not looking for a production manager I have been working really hard yeah maybe
52:05it was on the physical attributes but I put myself up to go out to Germany I don't speak German I don't
52:10particularly enjoy going to Germany I've just gone out there I've give everything my all out there I made
52:15some really good appointments and that was just through getting on the phone and cold calling
52:18you you said earlier Lord sugar that I've not been in this boardroom because people like me
52:22now I take that as a compliment because in business I do take it as a compliment oh yeah definitely by all
52:27means because I think I think it's a very good thing people deal with people in business they don't
52:31they don't deal with company they deal with you not a lot of people like me unfortunately they
52:36don't like me you know my wife likes me and my family but actually I'm not very well liked but
52:41that's because of my manner you know and that's maybe why I've been a bit successful in business
52:48that's because you're straight talking probably not too which is similar sort of situation which
52:51I take you know people deal with people sometimes being blunt with people and being up front and
52:55not bitching behind each other's backs that's why people like me I've been 100% everything I've
52:59done yeah I've put 100% effort in Jamie well what would you say why you should stay from from the
53:05moment I arrived I've been making strong decisions p.m. or no p.m. I've been putting my neck on the
53:11line and when I was p.m. and unfortunately I lost I still made a boardroom breaking about candidate than
53:16Chris right now with the what I've seen and these statistics absolutely I wanted to be the team
53:23leader everyone said Chris everyone put their hand up and it didn't get we didn't go around the
53:27table so that's we don't know the it's with an illustration of what people watching your ability
53:31I think in the previous tasks and I have been an excellent pillar an excellent support to the
53:38p.m. and I've been making really strong decisions we've won tasks through quite a lot of things that
53:45I've called so name me one gem of brilliance one bit of sparkle one absolute moment of brilliance I
53:54could go through each task but I mean task one isn't that many whether by 12 o'clock on the first task
54:00people were coming to me asking for my decisions I feel that people have naturally gravitated towards
54:07me and also I was 24 years old when I started my first my business and I learned a huge amount from
54:14people management and now I'm 28 the business you know four years into it I think that is a huge amount
54:20of of you know raw skill you don't tell me anything yet Jamie well I know I'm not saying you know I
54:27don't tell me anything I'm asked you to give me the sparks of inspiration that have occurred in the past
54:32eight weeks there's been excellent gems throughout and and I you know it's we've got a bottom line is you
54:39even come up with anything really special Christopher and Jamie I don't think on this task that you were very
54:58well organized and the day that you were sent off to Germany I don't think that for one moment and you
55:02can talk to your blue in the face and you ain't going to convince me of that either if I can no you
55:08can't um Chris what can I say about someone who's been on a losing team so many times and I'm not sure
55:18whether I can risk it anymore really facts are facts Jamie in the early stage of this process I was getting
55:38some good messages from Nick and Karen about you but you are sliding downwards in my estimation
55:46however Christopher you do work hard there is no question of that I think you do get on with
55:58people my concern is that you perhaps don't have that spark of entrepreneurial genius that is what I'm
56:06looking for I think you're not for my organization so you're fired thank you
56:14I'm sick and tired of looking at the pair of you I don't want to see you in this boardroom again because
56:30it's getting untenable you understand what I'm saying off you go back to the house
