00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Heusenbet and today I'm visiting one of
00:04Manchester's newest and most exciting grassroots music venues. Now the reason for this is since
00:10the Oasis gigs the council have decided to put nearly £250,000 into small grassroots music
00:15venues here in Manchester and last month we visited a new one. The Bag Factory it's called
00:20and it's now celebrating its first month of being open. We're going to talk to some of the staff
00:25about how the first month has been, what the meaning of the Bag Factory is and what this
00:29grant could mean to other grassroots venues just like it here in Manchester. So we are a small
00:35grassroots venue, we are putting on events where we just showcase the talent around Manchester. We
00:41like putting on people who have never done a gig before and we want them to play, get comfortable,
00:46we've got decks, we've got the sound system, everything's sorted, we've got cheap drinks so
00:51it's been so fun. Everyone's come down and supported us and we've got really nice little community
00:56building and it's all very exciting. It's been actually more successful than we thought it was
01:02going to be, but we just want to keep it going, keep the momentum going, especially into winter.
01:08We just need to get the community feel back to raving really, that's what we want to do here.
01:14I think the things that have been easier have been the technical side of things like
01:19getting the booze, getting the ice, things like that and we've had a really good group of people
01:24helping us with actually developing the place, painting it, knocking things down, building
01:30things. That's been rather smooth for now and we've also opened private studio sessions now.
01:37So for 50 quid people can book it, come down for three hours, we open the bar. I think it's good
01:42that smaller venues can benefit from the massive events. You know, there's been a lot of discourse
01:49about certain like exclusivity clauses and things that might actually harm smaller venues. Whereas
01:55for this, they're giving something back. It's going to help a lot of people and it's really good news.
02:00Even if we don't see any money from that, I hope someone does and props to them for that. We want
02:06people to just see that they can come and have a good time and it doesn't have to break the bank. It
02:11doesn't have to be someone that you've queued to get tickets for. It can just be you, you and your
02:17friends coming down, listening to someone, showing you support and building a little community. That's
02:22what we're all about. So I think it's really important that people see that this is still an
02:26option and you don't have to go out in Deansgate and spend £300 to have a night. You can come chill
02:33with your friends, listen to some really good music and be a part of something really special.
02:37So there you have it. That's The Bag Factory. A brilliant opportunity to come down and if you've
02:41not created your own music before, give it a try. If not, just come down and try and support some
02:45local artists trying to make a name for themselves. It's absolutely worth a go. Come down, give The
02:49Bag Factory a try and follow Manchester World for more. We'll see you again soon.
