A hot afternoon in many places this afternoon, particularly in the south and south east. Feeling fresher in the northwest with rain moving in across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Mostly dry elsewhere, with a few isolated heavy showers in the Midlands.- This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the afternoon of 30/06/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Alex Burkill.
00:00Hello, very good day to you. Yes, it's exceptionally hot across some parts, but not everywhere through today.
00:06Actually, towards the north and west, a real fresher feel to things.
00:10There is also a frontal system lingering here, but further south and east, some hot air.
00:14But it's not quite as hot as it is across parts of France and Spain at the moment,
00:19where we've had some record-breaking heat over the last couple of days.
00:22Nonetheless, some very high temperatures to watch out for as we go through today.
00:26In fact, it's going to be the hottest opening day of Wimbledon on record as well,
00:31with lots of sunshine across the bulk of England and Wales, seeing temperatures rising very high indeed.
00:37With that sunshine, we are going to see a few showers developing across parts of the Midlands,
00:41maybe into northern England, and these could be a bit thundery, but they're going to be pretty isolated most places, avoiding them.
00:48Further north and west, that front then bringing a fair bit of cloud and also some blustery wet weather
00:53across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
00:56We could see rainfall totals of around 30 millimetres, maybe even a little bit more than this, in just three to six hours.
01:02So some localised issues possible, particularly as we go later on in the day.
01:06The big talking point, though, are our temperatures.
01:09Yes, where we have that front towards the north-west, it's markedly fresher than towards the south-east.
01:13High teens, low 20s for some places here.
01:16But towards the south-south-east, central parts south-eastern England, we're going to see some very high temperatures in Ds.
01:23Likely to get to highs in the high 20s, low 30s quite widely, and we could even be looking at highs of around 34 or 35 Celsius.
01:31So unlikely to exceed the all-time June record of 35.6.
01:37Not out of the question, but it's pretty unlikely.
01:40Then, as we go through the end of the day, still hot and humid across much of England and Wales, still a few showers dotted around.
01:47The front in the north-west does edge a bit further south and eastwards across parts of Scotland, feeding through Northern Ireland and pushing into the far north of England.
01:55But it fizzles out as it goes through the night, and so a lot of that rain breaking up and dying away.
02:01So by the time that we get to around 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning, most places will be largely dry.
02:06Just a bit more cloud where we have that front lingering across southern-eastern Scotland, parts of Northern England, into Wales, and perhaps the south-west as well.
02:14It is going to be a very warm and humid night for many of us, particularly towards the south.
02:20Here, some places will most likely stay above 20 Celsius, so a tropical night for some.
02:26Difficult for sleeping.
02:27Markedly fresher, though, towards the north and west, with some places getting into single digits.
02:32And then as we go through tomorrow, still this front lingering across kind of this central third of the UK, I guess.
02:39It's a bit of a three-way split as we go through tomorrow, where we have that front lingering.
02:44More cloud across parts of southern Scotland, northern England, into Wales, and some rain pepping up as we go through the day as well.
02:50Could be some thunder mixed in with this.
02:52Towards the north-west, across much of Northern Ireland, northern and western Scotland, a good deal of fine sunny weather here.
02:58A bit of a change to today.
03:00Meanwhile, towards the south-east, lots of sunshine on offer.
03:04Barely a cloud in the sky across parts of the south-east.
03:07And because there will be almost unbroken sunshine through much of the day, although the air hasn't changed a huge amount.
03:13In fact, we're getting slightly fresher air coming in from the west.
03:17If anything, temperatures in the south-east could be a little bit higher through Tuesday than they will be through today.
03:23Across many places, things turning a little bit fresher.
03:26So temperatures dropping a little bit down.
03:28But yes, like I say, towards the south-east, they're looking similar, perhaps even a little bit higher.
03:32So 34, possibly 35, even 36 Celsius isn't out of the question.
03:37Obviously, that won't affect the all-time June record, as tomorrow is the 1st of July.
03:43Then, as we go through later on in the week, we do see some fresher air coming in from the west.
03:48There is a system bringing some wet weather to the south-east on Wednesday into Thursday for a time.
03:52But yes, a real change to a drop in our temperatures, so some more comfortable nights ahead.
03:57And whilst it is still going to be warm in any sunshine, it's not going to be anywhere near as hot as it is to start the week.
04:03There is then a front coming in from the north-west as we go through Friday.
04:06That's likely to push its way south-eastwards as we go into the weekend.
04:09So most of us will see some wetter weather times.
