What can we expect from Drake Maye this year? How much will he run this season?
Transcript
00:00Drake May met with the media yesterday after their practice and talked about the idea of
00:06when and where he should be running with the football. Here was Drake May.
00:11I think that's important. I think I faced that in college. My first year I was really
00:16kind of running around and doing some stuff I probably shouldn't have out there with pads
00:20on. So I think just taking care of my body and being smart, but also knowing when it's
00:23third down and when it's near the end zone. I'm 6'5 and 230 pounds, go get something.
00:28I mean, I love it. If you have a guy who has that ability, those who are complaining about
00:37it and saying, I don't want my quarterback running the football and getting hurt, sound
00:41ridiculous. Don't be Josh Allen. But Josh Allen, yes. In the red zone, be Josh Allen.
00:49Yeah, he runs over guys. Yeah, but I don't want my quarterback. I want you to get out,
00:54get the first down, get the yardage, and then when you start to see those guys coming,
00:58then you slide. Yeah, I don't need you to run over nobody. He has the wherewithal,
01:02though, saying, like, I did things last year I probably shouldn't have. So I think that
01:05he's going to play much smarter this year. I like the design runs. I mean, if you look
01:08at guys that can, whether it's Josh Allen, whether it's Lamar Jackson, whether it's
01:13Jalen Hurts, whether it's Jalen Daniels, you can have design runs. You just tell your quarterback,
01:21once you start to get where we needed you to get, be smart and get down.
01:26I don't think Lamar Jackson has mastered that. Like, when he was early in his career,
01:31he would take risks that were unnecessary. And Shime and I were talking after a TC yesterday,
01:36comparing Joe Burrow to Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson single-handedly makes a team a playoff
01:43team. Joe Burrow has Jamar Chase and T. Higgins, and Lamar Jackson has a tight end. That's it.
01:51His best receiver in his career has been a guy from Boston College in Say Flowers. Lamar Jackson
01:57has won 75% of his games, and TC talks about winning. Lamar Jackson is the most valuable player
02:04outside of Patrick Mahomes, potentially, of the last 10 years in the NFL.
02:08Yeah, there's different area codes. Patrick Mahomes is in one by himself. Then the next area code is
02:15Lamar and Josh Allen. You know, you can argue on who you have better there. And then Joe Burrow's
02:21on that next level. Joe Burrow's not on the same level, in my opinion, as Lamar Jackson and Josh
02:28Allen. Not that he's way behind them, but Josh Allen and Lamar, I would probably, if I had to take one,
02:34I'd probably go with Josh Allen, because I think Josh Allen is a better thrower of the football.
02:39And he doesn't miss football games. Like, the guy plays in every single game.
02:43But if you gave him... Lamar plays in a lot, too, though. You know, Lamar...
02:45No, he does, but there's been multiple seasons where he's only played in 10 games. Josh Allen,
02:49like, never misses a football game.
02:51But I would also say, if you gave Lamar Jackson Andy Reid, I don't know how much worse he'd be
02:57than Patrick Mahomes. If Patrick Mahomes wasn't in that offense...
03:00Preach.
03:00I mean...
