00:00Starbridge at the Green Duck Brewery. There we go, there's the proof guys.
00:04And check out these Paranoid Pump Clips. We're here with one of the bosses.
00:08Introduce yourself, sir.
00:09Hi there, I'm Alex, one of the directors here at Green Duck Brewery in Starbridge.
00:13Cool. Alex, Paranoid Beer, what's going on? What's it all about?
00:18Well, obviously, people have seen the news. The sad death of Ozzy Osbourne happened in the last couple of weeks.
00:23And we thought to ourselves, what can we do to sort of honour a local legend and raise a little bit of charity money along the way?
00:30So we looked at the main charities for Back to the Beginning.
00:33Chose one, which was Cure Parkinson's. There's a QR on the clip.
00:36Should people wish to donate more if they see the beer out and about in the wild.
00:41We will also be donating the profits of this beer to Cure Parkinson's.
00:46We just wanted to do something that honoured a fantastic contribution to the local area in terms of music and culture
00:54and all those other things that you did, which was fantastic for this area.
00:57Well, I've just got you to flick the rock music off just because I'm doing my video.
01:01But yeah, you're a rocker man. You know, Sabbath to you. You grew up listening to that music. Your dad kind of passed it down to you.
01:08Yeah, very much so. So my dad was a teenager when Sabbath came onto the scene.
01:14Again, you know, local boy. He was born and raised in Old Hill.
01:17So very much close to where they were as well from Birmingham.
01:20So very much part of my growing up and then continue to enjoy the music throughout, well, all my life until now.
01:26Cool. And like you said, you're not making a penny out of this.
01:29All the profits are going to the charity.
01:31So yeah, there's that little code there. People can scan.
01:35So tell us about the beer. What kind of beer is it then?
01:39A wet one.
01:40It's a wet one, yeah.
01:41It's a simple pale ale. We wanted to brew something that I would say probably a little bit more, you know, the Black Sabbath, Prince of Darkness.
01:48So a stout is the first thing that came to mind.
01:50But what we wanted to do was sell as much as possible and raise as much money as possible.
01:55And what gets drunk in the British summertime is not pints of stout by very many people.
02:00So we stuck to a pale ale, nice and simple.
02:03Hot, not too much. Nice and easy to drink.
02:06An approachable beer that people will enjoy.
02:08So hopefully, obviously, the more they drink of it and the more that goes out into the trade, the more money we make, the more money we can give away to charity.
02:15And we will sell this batch of beer out. We've got no doubt about that.
02:17So hopefully if it goes well, we can brew more and raise a bit more money.
02:21Yeah, well, it's my first time here, actually.
02:23I mean, you've got a, not only you brewery here, you've got a fantastic taproom here that you open on weekends and you can serve in pizzas and all that.
02:30Yeah, that's right.
02:31Appreciate it. Yeah, so Fridays 4 till 11, Saturdays 1 till 7.
02:35Outside those hours, private hire.
02:36We do our own pizzas, our own beers, brewed on site.
02:40I don't know if you can see in the background, I mean, we've got over a hundred gins, rums, et cetera, et cetera.
02:44So we try and keep ourselves very much as a community-led pub and people come in all walks of life and enjoy themselves, dog-friendly, kid-friendly, all that sort of stuff.
02:53And right on cue. Oh, we just missed him.
02:55That was your dog trotting past.
02:56You might have heard his little footprint.
02:58So where else will people stumble across Paranoid other than here, then?
03:02So it's gone out to our tri-customers throughout the West Midlands, you know, Birmingham, Walsall, Cannock, et cetera.
03:08I can't tell you any specific venues off the top of my head that are going to be having it, but I'm sure they'll be putting it out on their social.
03:13So keep your eye on your local pubs and if they've not got it on, then ask them why not and see whether or not we can get something to them.
03:19And was it always going to be Paranoid or was there a few other nines in the mix?
03:23As a Sabbath fan, there was a few others that I thought all that would work as a nines, but we wanted to keep it recognisable to Aussie and to Black Sabbath.
03:31And if people see it, then they've got that initial interest and then when they look at it and see that it's a charity beer, then hopefully they'll buy it and be able to donate a little bit of money.
03:38So we didn't want to make it too confusing. We wanted to keep it nice and simple.
03:40Okay. What a lovely way to pay tribute to the big man. Well done, sir.
