00:00Welcome back to Solak and Bertrand for Patriots training camp in Foxborough.
00:03We go right downstairs to welcome in Patriots receiver Kayshawn Booty.
00:08Kayshawn, hello.
00:09How you doing?
00:10We're doing great. How are you?
00:11Good.
00:12How's your camp been so far in your mind?
00:14Camp been great, you know, taking it day by day, kind of having successes,
00:18just kind of learning what we can, can't work on.
00:21But, I mean, overall, it's been great.
00:23Kayshawn, I said just a little bit earlier,
00:24I think you could make the argument that you have been this team's most consistent receiver in camp.
00:31To what do you credit that consistency to?
00:35I just say I credit the consistency to working on my game.
00:38You know, I come every day kind of focused on what I need to work on.
00:41Even outside of football, the things y'all don't see.
00:44I just take care of my body the way I'm supposed to, so I'm able to feel great out here.
00:48And I would say just focusing on that, everything's been good.
00:51I've been able to perform the way I kind of wanted to, and I love the success.
00:54When you talk about taking care of yourself away from the field,
00:57what's been the biggest change that you've made?
00:59Has it been nutrition?
01:00Has it been in the weight room?
01:01What's the biggest, you know, difference for you?
01:03I'd say it's been nutrition, but also just staying in the training room, you know,
01:07not waiting until the injury happens to get in there, you know,
01:10just kind of staying there and preventing the injury.
01:12So just kind of going in early in the morning, making sure I'm ready for practice.
01:16Were you around more this offseason locally here?
01:20I was around, yeah, I was around more.
01:23I stay, I try to stay out here most of my time, but I do travel sometimes.
01:28What's your relationship like with Stephon Diggs,
01:30and what's it been like having a veteran like that in the locker room?
01:33It's great to have a veteran like eight, you know.
01:36He's a straightforward guy.
01:38Like I always say, anytime he's here, you feel the energy anytime.
01:42So I think it's good for our room, too, a guy that will lead us
01:45and have us on the right path.
01:47Are you able to pick his brain at all, Kayshaun, when it comes to route running,
01:52you know, some of the different nuances of playing the position?
01:54Obviously, he's played a lot of football.
01:55He's been in this league a long time.
01:57Do you try to pick his brain when it comes to those sorts of things?
01:59I say everybody, everybody look at it differently, you know.
02:02He plays slot and outside, you know, whether I ask him questions about the inside
02:07or he asks me different techniques that I do on the outside, you know.
02:11Anything we talk about will always help us overall.
02:14Do you feel like your relationship now over the last year has grown with Drake May,
02:18and there was one play yesterday, and you had a contested catch,
02:23and I saw that Drake May kind of gave you the attaboy after the play.
02:26Are you guys just even more on the same page now than you were last season?
02:31Yeah, we – I would say yeah.
02:34You know, every day after practice, try to just catch balls.
02:38Anytime I go to him, ask him anything that he needs, you know.
02:41Even though I might be good from my perspective,
02:44just going to ask him anything he needs, making sure he's good.
02:47It won't hurt at all, so.
02:49All right, well, tell us the truth, Kayshaun.
02:51Be honest with us.
02:52Did you get your feet in on that catch?
02:54Yeah, I mean, I believe I did.
02:55Hold on.
02:57You didn't watch it on the tape?
02:58You guys didn't break that thing down in slow motion yesterday
03:00to see if that was a catch or not?
03:01I think I looked at the tape.
03:02I did.
03:03But, you know, we on the defense sideline.
03:05Obviously, they're going to signal that we was out of bounds.
03:08You know how it go.
03:09Yeah, it's a biased set of officials there.
03:11You know, you got to get a different group in there.
03:13Are you looking forward to tomorrow to competing against guys that are not on your team?
03:17Yeah.
03:18Like I said in the interviews, you know,
03:19we've been going at it with each other all day, every day.
03:22So I think it's a good opportunity for a lot of guys to show what they can do against other people.
03:28Do you get excited for a practice like that, Kayshaun?
03:30Obviously, you're trying to put your best foot forward out here every day in practice.
03:34But for, you know, a different look for a different team,
03:37is that, you know, get the juices flowing a little bit more?
03:39Yeah.
03:40You know, guys coming into our house with energy,
03:43it's our job as a team to maintain our house.
03:45So like I said, we just got to come out tomorrow, execute,
03:48and just kind of see what we had as a team.
03:50You know, offensively, to deal with a different offense
03:52and to have Josh McDaniels be the OC now, how's the transition been for you this camp?
03:58Oh, the transition hasn't been bad.
04:00You know, since college, I had a different offensive coordinator every year.
04:03So just been learning the playbooks, kind of getting comfortable in the system,
04:07and everything else takes care of itself.
04:09One thing I've noticed about you this camp, Kayshaun,
04:12is when you're on the outside and the team is handing the football off
04:17or maybe there's a screen that's running your direction but not to you,
04:21you've been sticking your nose in there, and you've been getting after it as a blocker.
04:24Is that something that you take pride in?
04:26Is that something that you've had to sort of grow into in your pro career?
04:31Because it does look like you've been making an impact
04:33when you've been given those opportunities.
04:35I mean, I blocked in college too, but, you know, it's a part of the game too, blocking.
04:39And you just don't want to be a receiver that catches the ball.
04:42Like the O-line block for us all game.
04:45You know, without them, without our quarterback,
04:47it wouldn't be no success for us receivers on the outside.
04:50So whether we're not getting the ball, you've got to be able to block five running backs too.
04:55It takes 11 men to make a great play.
04:57So as long as we're all working together, it'll play out.
05:00You think that's one of the reasons, Kayshaun, you've been with that first offense from day one.
05:05You're getting all kinds of opportunities with Drake May in that top unit.
05:08Do you think that's one of the reasons why you're doing some of those little things?
05:13You know, it's not really what I can control, but I'll say just, you know,
05:17every time I go, I make the most of my opportunities
05:19and understand what I need to do and how to do it.
05:22You know, you're down the depth chart a little bit at corner with some injuries.
05:25Just curious what your impressions have been of some of the young guys, DJ James,
05:28some of the guys you've faced out there.
05:30I'll say, you know, like you said, with two corners down,
05:33I'll say DJ James stepped in tremendously.
05:36You know, smaller cornerback, obviously, but anytime he's out there, it's a great competition.
05:41So a big shout-out to him for stepping up.
05:43All right, Kayshaun, we appreciate your time.
05:44Yes, sir.
05:45Thanks, Kayshaun.
05:46Yeah.
05:46Kayshaun Booty, Patriots receiver, having a great camp so far
05:49and has been out there putting in work.
05:53And as Phil pointed out, has been out there with the ones this entire camp.
05:56They have shown a belief in him this camp, and I believe he has rewarded their belief.
06:03Again, it's camp.
06:04You don't know how it translates ultimately, but he's done everything that they've asked of him so far.
06:08From the jump, he's been with the starters.
06:10It very consistently has been him, Stephon Diggs, Pop Douglas.
06:14That looks like your top three to me.
06:17Yeah, Booty is firmly on the roster.
06:21100%.
06:21Going nowhere.
06:23What?
06:24What's so funny?
06:25He's got a great name.
06:27Great name.
06:28Remember when everyone was calling him Booty?
06:30And he quickly corrected us and said, no, it's Booty.
06:33It's Booty, guys.
06:34It's what it is.
