For months, U.N. officials, aid groups and experts have warned that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are on the brink of famine without formally declaring one.

00:23Yet despite the amount of concern, no formal famine declaration has been made.

00:29To make a famine declaration, certain thresholds need to be met, such as a certain percentage
00:34of households need to be facing extreme food insecurity, a percentage of children need
00:39to be facing malnutrition or wasting, and a percentage of people need to be dying daily
00:45from starvation or malnutrition mixed with disease.
